I've had the exactly the same D'angelico model, matte color which was only one series from 2017. Had a 6-way switch, which was interesting and the price was way lower. I traded it and later on bought Deluxe Mini DC that has push/pull. Anyway, I just searched ES335 and the first model that came out has a 3-ply maple/poplar/maple ($3500 model), rather than a single piece.

Interesting! In the intro I preferred the Tele, but in the blind test the Strat sounded better to me. I think because in the intro the Tele made you play different ... "straighter", more "solid". I guess I'm not into the "Strat-typical" phrasing which is more "ornamented" and "fluid". When you play the exact same phrase on both guitars, maybe you are more connected to the guitar that you are more comfortable with, making it sound more present. Also, it seems like you tend to pick closer to the neck with the Strat. I can't even pick where I want, the way I want on a Strat -- everything is in the way... It's harder for me to get a good tone.

Ive got to go with No1 being Gibson... and it was. Pups are just more articulate and more overtones, and with deeper timbre. I dunno what mojo is in them but I tend to pick Gibby pups over most others even boutiques. As always awesome playing Joey, perfect for the demo.

meh , Ibanez Super 58 , is SHIT pickups ! , cold oriental Japanese sound . i sold them

Got these pickups in a BB King Lucille. With the Varitone switch, it's a very versatile guitar.

wowww, both sound crazily similar. There are some subtle differences but they are absolutely subtle. I bet with a bass and a drummer you cannot tell the Gibson from the D´angelico.

I only care about the clean. I will answer early then finish watching the video. Both sound so good but I hope I am right Gibson has a distinct bridge pickup sound so at 2:51 I am thinking #2 is a Gibson. I will now finish watching. Ha Ha was I sure wrong. They both sound so good. It is really hard to tell them apart.

A good compromise is the 502T.

Lots of un-wanted noises on the D'Angelico. The 335 sounds much better to me.

Yes, you need both the Taylor and the Ibenez. You also need a Gretsch, Fender, Martin, Gibson, Kay, Teton, and Epiphone. This will get you started until you can get just some other essential guitars.

Fun comparison of two awesome semi hollows, Joey! I had a sense of deja vu and had to go look at where I've seen this before and it was the Epi then, not the Gibby. I tend to prefer the tone of any of the Gibson humbucker pickups over most other winders including SDs and that's the case here as well. But the D'Angelico Deluxe DC appointments are pretty nice and I like her horn shape. I guess the idea of the 6 way toggle (a la Freeway) is better than the reality of it, we should just stick with push pulls and a 3 way.

I am not into coil splitting. They never sound good and I find them useless. The 335 just has a cool factor.

I definitely got it wrong. But through the years Strat and tele pups are not always the same. I’m comparing it to the tele I once had and the variety of strats I have had, yet somehow I got it backwards. Now I need to find a pickup that can switch between both sounds because I like them both for different situations. lol

I've got a 59 Strat and a 62 Tele partscasters I did with MJT bodys and had them relic AllParts Japanese made Fender licensed necks. Initially I played a 59 Custom Shop Closet Classic reissue and fell in love with it, but couldn't swing the $4500. I figured I could build the same guitar with all Fender parts and MJT body and neck for a quarter the price, and I was right. Had a pro luthier do the final set up and some tweaking. Once finished, we played them side by side at the shop (my Partscaster and the Custom Shop) and it was a home run. Side by side they are absolutely on par, and mine was set up better. Would never even consider a Higher end Fender again. I'll just put my own together. I get exactly what I want, exact pickups, wiring, pots... Everything. Like I hate Tele headstocks, so on my Tele, I did a 22 fret, ebony fretboard, Strat neck on my 62 Tele build. And a 63 Gibson Firebird pickup in the neck. Never find that combo from Fender, I doubt even the Custom Shop would do the Gibson neck pickup on an order. Firebird pickups in a Tele neck are incredible by the way... Real Firebird design type bar magnets, not just mini-humbuckers with individual poles. Working on a Tele Thinline Deluxe right now. Will do another Strat neck, and to keep it funky with a unique sound from anything else I have, will be doing P90s in this one.

Im torn between getting the classic vibe 70s jaguar or the hss strat, and this video has just added points to both sides. I'll probably get them both eventually, but get the strat first.

Joey what amp are you plugged into? All 3 pickups sound perfect, I have a 64 Strat and the pickups sound almost identical. I wired the treble pickup to the middle tone but it sounded worse so I rewired it back to standard and just play nearer the neck . I play rhythm mostly and when these pickups finally die I will be putting all 3 of those 59s in my Guitar( alrught, the middle is the only original one left and the other 2 are handwound but without that middle the other 2 sound different) tell us about the Guitar, is it an old-un or a custom shop, and what frets are in that fretboard, what strings ? All questions that any Fender player should ask. Spill the beans..please.

Some beautiful tones here, and great playing too. It's surprising how you can get such good tones from this amp. Maybe it likes those P90's too.. 👍

Interesting. There is no difference.

My720B is perfect...except for the Bigsby tremelo. Looks fantastic and gives it a really cool retro look but isn't a full range dive bomber. Other than that it looks and feels amazing. Sounds fantastic for all types of music. I think it leans towards cleaner sounds but can do the dirty work too. I think Yamaha knocked it out of the park without having to pay thousands for something of this quality.

I have a 335 with a T-Top in the neck and Burstbucker 2 at the bridge. I’m not sure what difference it makes, but the guitar sounds great. I also have a Tal Farlow with ‘57 Classics and it’s the most tone-full guitar that I have. I can lose myself playing either with reverb and vibrato or tremolo.

It would be very interestiong to know what amp and what speakers is used on this demo. I have a set of those pups on one of my Stratocaster guitars and I enjoy them a lot, very good pups for vintage Stratocaster tones.
