Hi Corey and Liam, I hope you both enjoyed the holidays. Corey, whiskey ginger tea will help you dear out the nasty germs 😊 Best wishes in the new year 😊 Those pictures you shared were amazing, holy moly!
I have a question about a ficus tree maybe you can help with? I originally purchased it for the deck as an experiment to see if I could overwinter successfully. And I was successful!! For 20 years! Sadly this year it has dropped almost every single leaf. Which does happen annually but not until February-March. I did the same process as I usually do- right or wrong it has worked for 19 years. I move it from its part shade position on the patio after watering it well. Just before the first frost. I leave it in the garage for about 10 days after spraying it with bug stuff. I should also add that at this point it is in such a large pot that I can’t have it sit directly in the ground any longer because I need to move it. So the pot sits on a plant stand with casters. I then tuck it in its spot in the house. Which it is outgrowing. My house is always set at 59 overnight and 62-64 throughout the day. (Why pay for heat when I have plenty of clothes to layer? And my kids are all grown so they can turn their own heat on whatever they want lol). The house temp doesn’t seem to harm the few house plants I can keep alive. If I remember correctly, the ficus did lose its leaves very early once when I left it out too long and into October. All of this to ask is if you have any advice. And I am really, really, REALLY bad at feeding it. Sometimes I would give it a drink of something like a miracle grow with the other plants once maybe twice in the summer but this year I switched from this regular type of plant food to the bloom feeder you recommended. I didn’t think I could use that product on the ficus. Anything would be helpful at this point. I have told my daughter that when I move might need to donate it to Matthai Botanical, especially as it continues to grow.
I'm not an expert on houseplants, but I know it's pretty common for them to drop leaves when their environment changes. You'd be best to consult someone specializing in houseplant care -- they might be able to advise.
