I think this planting is about 8 or so years old. Give or take a couple years. I probably wouldn't do it to young plantings you would have to wait until they get a few years old and mature height.

That is quite a lovely garden! Those American pillar arborvitae remind me of Dr. Seuss trees. Putting in that deer fence made it necessary to trim the trees, I guess. They do look interesting. I sure would love a deer fence, but the HOA would have a fit.

I can't wait to order your Tres Amigos and the Polar Gold Thuja (not sure if the deer will go for this one, lol..). Your coat is perfect for going to the Thanksgiving Parade and other cold outdoor activities in Michigan. I do like the trees trimmed up next to the fence. Hi Heidi, love these videos of you showcasing plants growing in the fall/winter in Zone 6A (this is mine as well). 😃😃😃I have a question regarding the Interstella - I purchased mine in 2020 when it was full of blooms and looking gorgeous! In that winter (2020-2021), the pandemic rabbits ate it down several inches and I lost the buds for that spring of 2021 and for 2022 as well. I put fencing around it and waited to see the blooms in 2023 but nothing, nor in 2024! The plant itself is growing well and looking very healthy but there aren't any clusters of buds for 2025 either. What am I doing wrong? Feeling very perplexed...🤔😒🤔
@@gardencrossings I'll add some acidifier and hope it promotes blooms for next season (2026). It is fenced off so the rabbits can't nibble the tops off. Thanks for the advice 😃😃😃
I have 15 American Pillars on a narrow property line with the neighbor. I wonder how old these are at the trial gardens? Love to see mine get that tall but I’m in my mid 60’s. The deer rut some every year.
This is a trail garden. It is to showcase and trial new plant varieties. A garden doesnt have to star off big, it all starts with one plant and you can add to it as you can.

I like those thin man thuja trees now I can’t decide between thin man or Stonehenge skinny taxes! For my driveway entrance for 2025
If you dont have deer and do have full sun, I would do Skinny. If you have deer and more shade taxus would be better.

They like to be planted in acidic soil. The blooms come on the old growth, so if a critter is eating at the plant it may be removing the buds.
