Got my first San Martin about a month ago, the BB panda dial chronograph, and was blown away with the entire watch. In hand, it felt solid, tight, and very smooth or soft to the touch. The dial color and finish, endices, hands, logo, were all fantastically finished, and made for a stunning dial. This SN0129 is a nice looking watch and brushed and polished perfectly. My eye is on the SN0136-G.
The thing I like most about San Martin is that they listen to their customs comments and reviews and make changes. I have three watches from San Martin and they are excellent very well made watches.
I have that one with the 'desert sand' dial, and after noticed that it was spending more time on my wrist than any other single watch, I ordered an aventurine one as well. These are impeccable pieces, highly recommended!
I’ve decided to pick one of these up and normally that wouldn’t be a big deal but for about a year now I’ve tried to be much more selective when buying a watch and not pull the trigger immediately… But after two weeks, I keep coming back to this one I’ve not purchased in a whilethis is it!
I have the same case with the Lapis dial. I really am blown away at the quality for the price. They really hit it out of the park with the case and bracelet here.
Ive owned this watch a couple of months and the love for it has not let up. I own 15 watches including omega, heuer, tudor longines and this watch comfortably sits next to those in my box. Its definitely the top aliex watch right now. And dont sleep on the polished center links. A little bling is good sometimes. An all brushed oyster bracelet is the most boring of all bracelet types.
Most worn watch over the past 3 wears has been my San Martin SN0046-G. I replaced the bracelet with a Barton Elite Silicon and never looked back. It's the perfect GADA watch - It goes in the water, it goes to the gym, it goes on date night, and it goes in the board room. Best $200 I ever spent on a watch.
Bought this four weeks ago. Really pleased with it - only critisism is that it loses 15 seconds a day - but within specification. GMT really functional as supporting a work team on a -8hr time zone.
Man these Chinese watches are getting better and better. I got my Addiesdive AD2030 two weeks ago for like 40$ and it's crazy how the quality is so good for the price, for example the bracelet with the milled clasp at this pricepoint. Even tough I already have other Seiko / Citizen / Orient watches I absolutely love the Addiesdive and have been wearing it ever since, especially in that nice light blue color, perfect for summer time and the size makes it sit so nice on the wrist.
The only grumble I have in my reviews on SM is the sterile casebacks. I have been banging on about it for well over a year but so far nothing has changed! Nice review Jody. Mike MRW, PS congrats on the 300K !
Picked up the green one last year. Very happy with it. I also have a Seiko GMT, the San Martin cost less, wears infinitely thinner, and the bracelet is better. Hard to argue value for money.
Instead of the red tipped seconds hand, I’d rather it was the triangular tip of the GMT hand that was red. Makes more design sense to match the GMT tip to the red GMT text in my opinion. Otherwise a very nice looking watch.
That DJ homage from San Martin is brilliant (displayed at the start of the video). I've got the blueish mop dial and i'll never need another dress watch.
I have the aventurine and it is really nice, even next to my luxury watches. Admittedly i would've preferred the Miyota 9075 for the flyer gmt and a reduction in thickness, but for the money i can hardly complain!
4:00 There seems to be an issue with the NH34 where the GMT hand jumps backwards when you set the time, just as the Mingzhu DG5833 does. Every UA-cam review of an NH34 watch that I've seen has been the same, so it's not just a one-off.
Probably a matter of, "One doesn't know it's a homage unless you've SEEN the original"? I know I've never seen the GS. But the caution should probably be you should ASSUME San Martin watches are always homages unless you know for a fact they aren't?
Basically yes. Which is a credit to GS that companies like San Martin are copying their designs. The San Martin does look nice though if you want to save a lot of money as it is 30 times less expensive than the real thing.
Heheheh, I knew it would be San Martin by the title, and my vote would also be for the SN0129. Which, by chance, happens to be my only San Martin so far, which I just received about a week ago. Aventurine for me. It and my red Bulova Jet Star are my 2 current faves in my collection. Don't hesitate on an SN0129.
just got my miltado salmon/champagne dial. its a super affordable quartz version of the baltic mini rotor small seconds. also just got he WatchDives version of the seamaster 300 they make the best homage with the white dial version. ceramic dial insert and everything.
I know it’s very similar to a GS, but it certainly has its own touches. I think this is not just the best SM, but one of the best affordable watches on sale period. Thanks for showing it to us!
You should review the Sugess 418-2. Thus being a Daytona homage, it seems to be by far the best automatic chronograph under 500 $, and competitive with way more pricey options.
I've been eyeballing this guy for the last week. I've never purchased a San Martin or Chinese watch at all, but this one, especially in the sand dial, have me tempted.
so lucky your wrist is the same size as mine so your wristshots are invaluable for me in your reviews!!! and you do both close and far shots...thanks so much Jody! polished mid-links are really easy to brush...just straight brushes with the green scrub side of a scotch-brite sponge...it totally changed my seiko flightmaster which was way too shiny with polished mid links!
I hope they make a thinner bb54 with a miyota 9000’s series no date could potentially get it under 11mm but it’s a pipe dream but I’d pay 300 I know they can handle putting the ceramic balls in the clasp nowadays
Nice review, San Martin do cop a shellacking for being slavish 'homage' watches, but they really are a good value proposition the movements are basic, but as you said all that most people really need...
That polishing on the crown guards is a fantastic touch, very Grand Seiko. Kind of defeats the purpose of a crown guard though if it's something you don't want to scratch!
I appreciate you calling out the logo, Jody. I'm certainly someone that keeps piping up about it in comments on youtube. It's hurting their sales for sure--I'd have one of their GMTs otherwise! Hope they change it.
I don’t mind the logo or the hands. I would prefer brushed mid links. I have 2 caller GMT Watches and don’t use the GMT function. It is too difficult for me to figure out at a glance. I would have preferred a traveler GMT movement so I could quickly just reset the hour hand. Even a 3 hander would have been just fine but they weren’t available in the designs I wanted. My eyesight isn’t that great anymore and I prefer an analog watch because I can instantly tell the time with a glance without having to focus on it. I have several beater watches that I wear when doing work that may mar the watch. Love your videos, Jody!
I just bought my first San Martin a San Martin a SN066 Compressor style and it is amazing ! bought a Tissot Sea star and to be honest the case finish on the San Martin is superior very unexpected.
A lovely watch, and you didn't even get the best one! I have this watch with the sparkly silver/white "sand dune" dial, which goes better with the rather blingy bracelet. SM now also has versions with adventurine, marble, and Lapis dials. Really nice, but I like the wavy white one best.
Probably my most worn $250 watch over the last year is probably the San Martin SN0113 aka the Aqua Terra-alike. Mine is the blue and I wear it either on the bracelet (nice and slim and has the on-the-fly adjustment) or a worn carmel brown leather strap. The hex logo is definitely not a deal-breaker for me but I must say the seconds hand on that GMT is... ungainly. Probably wouldn't be a deak-breaker but that counter balance is definitely over the top.
I really really like that, looks so good and for the money it’s crazy, I’m going to have to look into SM, definitely a black dial for me and non GMT, i actually like the logo, think it looks great.
Yeh SM make amazing quality watches. Ive got a bronze field style SM and the other thing not mentioned in this video I would say is, the crystal is amazing. Great review. Thanks!
How is the finishing between the lugs? Usually this area is neglected. You don't see it on bracelet but switch to a strap and ouch. Comtemplating my Spb051 now and can't help seeing the machining trace there 😩
I wish San Martin would offer watches with Swiss movements. I have many NH Seiko movements that are O K but not great for accuracy compared to ETA 2824/ Sellita SW200. For watches at this price point and higher the movement quality is important
I saw this watch listed the other day and felt the brushed dial cpuld jsit look smarter than the better known textured ones. Looking at your live footage, I think it does. It really looks quite smart. Now for a spprty watch that long counterbalance may not be ideal, especially should it get confused with the GMT hand, but it's a dresy style that I do like. Perhaps they should apply it to their blue and green enamel sunburst sector-like watches instead. They could do with a littel refinint revamp to truly convince. As always though, San Martins convince at the price and some more affordable microbrands. The design, for me, isn't wuite up there with the finish. And it's good to remember that VAT still will add a fair bit to the price, so affordable, but not cheap. I regret they stick to the NH34, not that there is somethig trily wrong with it, but the Miyota 9 wouldn't need to add that much to the cost and would certainly allow a better overall feel and slimming down. Then we'd really ne talking. Still, the proposition as is should suffice to keep many from buying more expensive lesser watches.
Love the new studio, gotta say this is a pretty piece but my new gmt target is the Bremont Supermarine, such a pretty watch,. As is this. The metal finish does appear to be outstanding.
Note how San Martin reduced their logo on the dial to a small design. Others are copying the small style on the dial (likely to de-emphasize the microbrand stigma)
Personally I like the San Martin hexagon logo compared to what they had before, everyone has different taste and no matter what logo a brand has there will always be someone who doesn't like it. San Martin have done a great adjustable mesh bracelet only problem is that it's available with curved end links , they need to offer straight end links on that .
I actually have an SM0129 (the red Year of the Dragon dial) incoming atm, should be here a week from now at the latest. I'm looking forward to it, they always were very well built watches for the price, I just don't wear ripoffs- but when I saw this model, I had to have one.
Hello, I hope you can give me some advice. I have San Martins, homage to the Tudor Pelagos. I've had them for a year, and I haven't used them often. I started wearing them constantly and noticed a problem: the mechanism stops sometimes 6 to 12 hours after I take them off. They have a 40-hour power reserve when fully wound. I don't risk overwinding and just wind them by feel. I had the same problem with my Seiko 5; they also stopped at night. Can you please advise on what to do?
Good luck to you in your watch journey, but I am moving on to the dark side and going to a smartwatch. I love traditional watch history and aesthetic but the utility of the smartwatch has just won out. But before I go I have to know, Where can I get that T-Shirt?
I'm so glad you covered this watch. It's so frickin good, I'm in love. I'm glad you aren't afraid to cover them now that you have your own brand. I'm seeing less san martin content, and I thought that was why. They have released a bunch of really cool original stuff that I hope you cover. P.s I agree that the hands are a bit cheap and if they fixed that, this watch would be even better.
Looks great, the logo wouldn't bother me at all, its not like an octopus or cartoon diving mask which definitely has stopped me buying from those brands. I'm almost convinced, just the nh34's accuracy.
Now that you have a few of your own watches under your belt, Jody, you really speak with authority when you talk about the value proposition of a watch. So when you praise a watch for its quality and value, you definitely know whereof you speak.
Seiko would charge you $1,000 for hollow end links, pressed clasp and misaligned dial. But as long as there’s a Prospex logo on it, the Stans will buy it.
I have this watch. My niggles are (a) the clasp adjustment is not as long as the bracelet links, so some people like me, will not get a good fit, and (b) it's a real bugger to push the crown back in past the setting mode into screwing in mode. Whenever I try and screw down the crown, I end up re-setting the gmt hand, which kind of defeats the purpose! Obviously, I'm in the minority, but returns to Ali Express are, well, the sign of an optimist, so I live with it.
Got this (original version) on my wrist right now and it's all true. Best watch I've bought off AliE (and I've bought about 20 - 30) even better than the IXDAO Engineer. Surprising haven't scratched any of the center links (after 6 months) and they don't look too blingy. Would I normally go for the all brushed bracelet, yes. Would I swap mine for a new one with brushed bracelet, umm no I don't think so.
I have an issue with what you said at 3:22 “all the movement you actually need” as someone who works on equipment, a tradesperson I need antimagnetic features more than water resistance. So, so, sooo many times I’ve had to demagnetize my Seiko watch when I get done at work.
I heard you say this is an original design from san martin, but i believe it to be a copy of a grand seiko SBGE285.San martin does make a really beautiful GMT that is original in design ,theSNO116G-V4 .in the root beer dial it is very nice.all this being said ,i really enjoy your show and always watch ,thank's
I think it looks really good for the price, and I start to love the '70 vibes of the lettering of the logo. Not the best I've ever seen, but who cares, it has his dignity! Thanks San Martin for this original timepiece, thanks Jody for this new -enthusiastic- video. This time the watch gains 5 monkeys out of five! 🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒 See you!
Got my first San Martin about a month ago, the BB panda dial chronograph, and was blown away with the entire watch. In hand, it felt solid, tight, and very smooth or soft to the touch. That aventurine dial is great!
Would love the updated version with the old dial..

On my 5th San Martin now. Just as good as my entry level Swiss watches. Great video Jody!
I adore your intros with "Hallo and welcome..." It always brings me good feeling

Best T-shirt ever!! RIP Douglas, so long and thanks for all the fish!!
The one I like is the white textured sand. That would be my next watch! Of course, based on your review Jody!
Is this not just a homage of the Grand Seiko *SBGE285? On my wish list nonetheless. Excellent watch.
I was just about to say that! looks a lot the GS GMT "explorer"
Absolutely correct, the "Mist Flake" GS SBGE285
I'm curious as to why Jody didn't pointed that out...
Probably a matter of, "One doesn't know it's a homage unless you've SEEN the original"? I know I've never seen the GS. But the caution should probably be you should ASSUME San Martin watches are always homages unless you know for a fact they aren't?
I got the Sn0131g, thats an original. And an amazing one at that. Some people say its an aquanaut, but its inspired at most.
Basically yes. Which is a credit to GS that companies like San Martin are copying their designs. The San Martin does look nice though if you want to save a lot of money as it is 30 times less expensive than the real thing.
The new ones with the marble dial and all brushed bracelet is unreal san martin doing more of their own designs is a hughe win for us all
Heheheh, I knew it would be San Martin by the title, and my vote would also be for the SN0129. Which, by chance, happens to be my only San Martin so far, which I just received about a week ago. I own an SN0131, and the FINISHING is just out of this world. I just wish they offered some better movements
Woah, don't think I've ever been this early to a video! Had this exact watch on my watchlist for a while, glad to see a review!!
Not just early, but first!!! Ten points mate.
I agree. A beautiful watch that looks much more expensive. Don't have a San Martin yet, maybe this will be the one.
@@JustOneMoreWatch Thanks! 😂
@@mikedandurand3548 Yeah, the white dial with waves in it is very tempting...
I just bought my first San Martin a San Martin a SN066 Compressor style and it is amazing ! bought a Tissot Sea star and to be honest the case finish on the San Martin is superior very unexpected.
great review ! always feels exciting when I see a new JOMW video uploaded 1 minute ago!
A lovely watch, and you didn't even get the best one! I have this watch with the sparkly silver/white "sand dune" dial, which goes better with the rather blingy bracelet. SM now also has versions with adventurine, marble, and Lapis dials. Really nice, but I like the wavy white one best.
Nice watch. I have 2 SM watches, really enjoy them. When are you going to review the Baltany 1921?
Probably my most worn $250 watch over the last year is probably the San Martin SN0113 aka the Aqua Terra-alike. The UA-cam channel I like watches compared Rolex against San Martin under the micro lens and San Martin came out on top.
I check them out but mainly for their unusual creations. No problem with the logo and quality and consistency seem fantastic.
need to up the hands game with more detail and colour matched date wheels with some of the other colours, they are getting very close to being perfect
Yeh SM make amazing quality watches. Ive got a bronze field style SM and the other thing not mentioned in this video I would say is, the crystal is amazing. Great review. Thanks!
Looking forward to what SM continue to develop, looks like a design language might start to emerge 😊
How is the finishing between the lugs? Usually this area is neglected. You don't see it on bracelet but switch to a strap and ouch. Comtemplating my Spb051 now and can't help seeing the machining trace there 😩
I got the white dessert dial as soon as I saw it on Ben's channel. Its gorgeous 😍
Looks better finished than that GS you bought, particularly the end links, you can drive a coach and horses through the gaps on that one.
Jodie, your link to the San Martin offical store (not the link for this watch) has been deleted or suspended. Just a heads up.
Just at 300k! Congrats!!
Love the new studio, gotta say this is a pretty piece but my new gmt target is the Bremont Supermarine, such a pretty watch,. As is this. The metal finish does appear to be outstanding.
its beautiful. I wish they will make a GMT with numerals on the face instead of ticks - similar to the Longines zulu GMT. great video
I own the dunes version and it’s stunning. Daily driver dress watch for the office.
Note how San Martin reduced their logo on the dial to a small design. Others are copying the small style on the dial (likely to de-emphasize the microbrand stigma)
The SN0130-G is even better. Basically the same watch, slightly bigger, but the bezel is phenomenal, really elevates the premium look.
In my opinion, miyota 9075 movement, brushed O-style bracelet, and shorter clasp with 0.5 mm quick adjust would make this watch perfect for me!
What do you think of another original design of San Martin: the SN0116 (especially the blue one)
I have the adventurine gemstone version of this watch, it looks awesome
Nice finishing indeed Jodi, but not so fast, it's not original design, it's a Grand Seiko SBGE285G copy.
I tjink you should just quote prices in USD as it avoids confusion with AUD. I think in GBP but you need some sort of standard reference.
I normally quote USD but sometimes makes more sense to use AUD if that's what I paid etc. Cheers!
With all brushed surfaces and a black dial, this would be a nearly perfect GMT. I REALLY like the San Martin originals...
I actually have an SM0129 (the red Year of the Dragon dial) incoming atm, should be here a week from now at the latest. I'm looking forward to it, they always were very well built watches for the price, I just don't wear ripoffs- but when I saw this model, I had to have one.
Great video, your enthusiasm is infectious. Would you rate San Martin higher than Orient? Interesting appraisal.
You can't overwind an automatic, so try and give it a good wind and time it to stop. Cheers!
@@JustOneMoreWatch Thank you very much for your advice. I did that, and it works well
Good luck to you in your watch journey, but I am moving on to the dark side and going to a smartwatch. I love traditional watch history and aesthetic but the utility of the smartwatch has just won out.
But before I go I have to know, Where can I get that T-Shirt?
For that price, you can't go wrong. Very stylish looking watch more than capable of holding its own against bigger names.
I'm so glad you covered this watch. It's so frickin good, I'm in love.
I'm glad you aren't afraid to cover them now that you have your own brand. I'm seeing less san martin content, and I thought that was why. They have released a bunch of really cool original stuff that I hope you cover.
P.s
I agree that the hands are a bit cheap and if they fixed that, this watch would be even better.
The Engineer watch from that brand with an odd name is the new benchmark IMO.
I can’t help but wonder how this would look on a GS style bracelet, with the smaller polished sections…
Jody, how about a link to the t-shirt?
I like this dial. The link goes to a dune dial, which I already have. I'll look for this dial or a variation.
You should have mentioned that the finishing is excellent! 😉
What’s up with the numbers 2, 4, 6, …22, 24? Is it just decoration?
Seiko would charge you $1,000 for hollow end links, pressed clasp and misaligned dial. But as long as there’s a Prospex logo on it, the Stans will buy it.
The bracelet and case integration is as good as it gets
Very well designed ! 👌 bravo 👏
What about Addiesdive AD2117 silver? (NH35A/WR 200m/sapphire). Is San Martin x2 better? (It's ~$145)
Original - looks like the GS minus the textured dial
But lovely for the money
Mate, I’m a tradesman too, mechanical tradesman. My biggest issue is vibration from air and battery tools. How are you magnetising your watch?
A little homage to Douglas Adams on the tee shirt today I see.
Great video as usual Jody. A lovely piece. Very reminiscent of the Christopher Ward GMT. Not a bad thing.
They are pretty solid and one of the better homage watches
Jody, are you saying that San Martin and Ali cut out the middle man?
😁
Why don't you compare this and that seiko 5 gmt (the field watch version)? 😊
Bloody great idea mate.
Even better than one of your own? Incredible Jody
It’s a nice watch. I’d personally like to see a better movement. At least a reasonably priced option.
I'm on the lookout for a *slate grey* dial diver - any suggestions max budget £350? 😎

See you!
7am Sydney commute made easier with this video
Seems like good value for the price; and a nice watch at any price!
