Top 5 1. Casio Edifice slim….not sure if it’s technically “this year”…but very nice shape, size, thinness, sapphire crystal for just over $100 2. Baltany and 3. Proxima Some more original designs and getting better and better at finishing 4. Agree with the Citizen Forza titanium small seconds 5. Timex Ironman Adrenaline digital. Went on sale a few times to $59. Extremely legible, comfortable, great Indiglo
It’s been a crazy decade. Just going back to 2015, I remember $1000 dollars would mean you could acquire some serious timepieces for a sub collection. This felt like a fortune for a hobby then. The microbrand surge post 2018 definitely pushed the goalpost to what we supposedly assume is affordable now. Somewhere in this process, Seiko decided to rebrand itself, reprice accordingly. I now find myself looking at Citizen as genuinely affordable substitute.
My Seiko hangover was my pickup of the Seiko Recraft SNKN37 that ships with zero, nada, nothing lume. My fav pickup of my 100 new watches this year was my Aragon 45mm red dial diver with tritium.
Great recap and no lies detected. I guess the good news for Seiko is the quality complaints died down… because we were too busy ripping their face melting prices. The Kith collab was about as cringy as the Swatch moon fiasco from a few years ago.
I took delivery of my Clemence Munro - ordered in late 2023 and delivered in Spring 2024. Love it! The bracelet followed later and I still haven't got round to trying it on but the watch has looked great on a bunch of different third party straps ❤
I hunted the last blue Baby Alpinist in the country. Apparently, when saving up for a watch, you have to be quick with the Japanese. And that's it. I don't have a big collection, I decided for a Seiko, one Seiko - that Seiko.
For the Citizen slow & complicated watch, the alternative I'd recommend is a Casio Protrek anadigi like the PRG650. It has the analog world time and such, but it's quick and intuitive to operate. It seems like a better experience to new Citizen anadigi as well.
Excellent and entertaining 5/5 list as always. I didn’t realize Seestern had sent that message about the Erebus Lume. I know English isn’t their first language, but there is a clear different between a mistake and attempted fraud. You know that I know more than anyone else the difference between the two. Thanks again!
My grandfather was the most amazing man and role model… I idolized him, and I paid attention to every little thing that he bought because he never paid attention to dime for anything unless he had done an obsessive amount of research; he was so excited, 12 years ago, to show me his new Citizen Eco-Drive. “NEVER NEEDS A BATTERY ITS THE BEST”, lol I have his watch now and it comes out for celebrations like weddings and my kids’ birthdays. I’m so happy to see so many people feel the love for Citizen that he did.
I got 2 watches this year I'm really happy with, one js my san martin sn0142-G (the black dial, orange indices model, that thing is marvelous for the price) and the other Is my purple helix ascent, it's the most comfortable watch I own to wear and the dial still is stunning to look at
I missed my chance to get a green fume Ascent which would have been my choice so I'm holding out for you to make an off white one like the sarb cause the bright white doesn't appeal to me that much and looks a little flat, my white dials need to be off white or textured, no inbetween.
Jody! I've been out of town for awhile and finally got home to open my Ascent Orange Fume on Jubilee. You knocked it out of the park! Stunning, comfortable and "just right". Had to wear my Aqua Terra today just to remind it that I still love it..😂 I seem to have received a bonus blue enamel Ascent as well though. I don't believe i paid for two, so I'm unsure how to proceed.
My 2024 of watch related material began in Feb with the Origin delivery, and has ended with my Ascent. Erebus is kicking goals and winning hearts. I love both of my purple beasties. Well done Steve and Jody. 🎉
Have to agree that the Erebus Ascent was a highlight for me.....(and I'm not trying to kiss your posterior). It is a fantastic GADA. And a personal highlight was getting what might normally be a "luxury watch" at an affordable price. My Raymond Weil Maestro, a company I had never even heard of before, still makes me smile. (Why they were blowing them out on Jomashop I don't know....maybe I missed something.....But it's a 2024 highlight for me.)
Hats off to Citizen. Hitherto overlooked as purveyors of mall watches, theyve gotten themselves on watch enthusiasts' radars with a bunch of nice releases this year.
At the macro level, I agree with you that 2024 was lackluster at best. However, it seems like at least once a month I stumbled on some new micro that made my “will buy in future” list! I couldn’t pass up the Magnum PI watch in solar nor the Phoebus GMT. The only reason I didn’t buy the red dial Ascent is Bulova beat you to the Black Friday sales and I couldn’t pass up the red dial Surveyor. 2024 will go down as a year that Citizen and Bulova made moves to steal some affordable watch space left void by Seiko.
Nice job, Seestern, for returning the favour - and nice job, Jody, for taking it on the chin. Jody, any plans of reviewing their SeaQ clomage with the PT5000 movement? They're significantly thinner and very elegant.
I think the Hanhart Preventor was a great release as it takes everything good with the Hamilton Murph and adds hardened steel and better lume. It can't even be called a homage as the Murph used a dial and hands from a previous Hamilton release that was a homage of a Hanhart. The Doxa Sub 200T was probably an important release as it looks like the iconic 300 in a manageable case size. I'm really looking forward to the Ascent GMT with a green dial and J style bracelet. I would love to see the hands and markers in gilt as well.
Ascent is best money spent so far this year for me yo. Will be my newyears eve watch. Vario is on my radar. Great video Jody! Seiko will be an option at Ali prices.
Thank YOU, Jody for another stellar year of fun shows. That Monstera behind you just seems to get more lovely with age! Best to you and the fam for 2025.
Seiko is getting expensive indeed. The one model I am really happy with though, is the SUR319. It is a 36mm quartz watch with a sapphire crystal. It is absolutely beautiful. Very similair to a SARB, but much slimmer, and it always runs when you need it. Easily one of my favorite watches.
I finally pulled the trigger for your Erebus Origin GMT (White dial). The watch is really well made and it has much wrist time in the past month. The only tiny gripe is that it's not really white but more of a matt + textured silver dial. Nonetheless, am glad to support you on your commercial adventure. 2024 must be so special for you and may 2025 be as exciting 😊 Happy holidays Jody 🥳
Congrats on all the success of Erebus. I agree with you assessment, no real runaway success stories this year. Honestly, this was a lean year for me.......not much watch buying in this economy.
Hey Jody, great fun as always! My biggest positives are surprisingly at the very low end: Addiesdive, Skmei and Sanda, which surpassed the no. 1 of my negatives by far in creativity and caught up on quality. So my negatives are Casio - yes, sorry - and Seiko. Oh, and Tissot as well. Cheers from Germany and have a wonderful Christmas! 🤍❄️
It has been great content all year around, I enjoy these videos ,yeah, you are correct. Some companies are just lazy, looking forward to this coming mostly Seiko, I bought this year, the baby Alpanist 38mm light green 70 hours of power reserve, that's it seiko some years good and some are bad ...Merry Christmas to you brother and your family, love and peace..all away from St George Utah.....
Citizen have been putting Seiko to shame in recent years. I have a Tsuyosa and a Forza small seconds and they're phenomenal. The Forza in particular has one of the best dials I've ever seen, and the titanium integrated bracelet is almost up there with the PRX and the CW Twelve. Meanwhile Seiko are pumping out overpriced reissues and a new diver that looks like somebody tried to draw a circle while very drunk.
Does the rest of the world get the Irn Bru reference? And I thought you might not mention Erebus. But I have to admit I do like my Ascent. Well done and thank you. Is it too early for a Merry Christmas.
Love your videos, Jody, and love your Origin watch! Never heard of your brand until today, but you do great work. Will the white face Origin be restocked? I might just go for it. (Next year.) This year, I sprung for a Farer Endeavor Aqua Compressor. $1195 USD, which is more than I ever thought I would spend on a watch. It’s my wife’s Christmas present to me, and I can’t wait to put it on.
Jody, the thing I enjoyed most in the watch world over the last 12 months was at last, meeting you in person at the wind-up watch show in New York City in October York City
Never been a fan of Seiko so it doesn't surprise me to see they're No.1 in the miss category. The Timex enigma has to be a close second place. What crap. In 2024, they could have given us an upmarket version that didn't look like you got it from a gumball machine (old-timers will know what I'm talkin about). I can't believe they decided to reissue this as a one-for-one. What a dumb idea.
Love watching your channel. However for the past 9 years I have been wearing smart watches only. First was an Apple and for the past 7 yrs it's been Withings hybrids. Likewise at work, in the coffeeshops, on vacation everyone around me - at all ages, especially elderly - are wearing smartwatches. So WHO is buying all these ancient tech watches that are off by several minutes each week ? 🧐
My big miss is the Timex Weekender revamp. Everything got so much worse. Date and cyclops have no business on this sort of watch. The big “we” branding is hideous, and the font just looks gross. Plus, the dials went to a starker white rather than warmer offwhite. The old Weekender was a respectable design. Sure, it’s got a brass case and ticks at about 87 decibels. But for an analog you’d get at Walmart, it hit the mark. A comfortable and friendly 90s minimalism replaced by an uglier, less interesting 2020s minimalism.
Seiko as a brand sicken me. Poor specs, poor quality control, inflated prices. I've recently bought two Islander watches and the fit and finish on both is flawless. If Islander can achieve this, how can Seiko not? I'm talking basics like alignment here. And there's Orient, part of the Epson group that also owns Seiko. I own several Orient and Orient Star pieces. The spec, quality control, fit and finish and value for money absolutely wipes the floor with Seiko. And Christopher Ward, you're paying for a name that isn't even a name. You're paying for their advertising.
The kith Heuers are great. The boutique ones are steel. And it's a high accuracy quartz +- 10 Sec a year. And they are dripping with nostalgia. Completely different the swatch imo
I own many watches. But my first automatic was a Seiko. Unless the company has a spectacular turnaround, it will also be the last Seiko added to my collection. The lazy designs, greedy prices, and embarrassing QC issues are unacceptable. @seikousa9124
Agree with the Ascent being number 2. I love mine and the quality is second to none.
My Citizen collection grew with a few during 2024
Top 5
1. Casio Edifice slim….not sure if it’s technically “this year”…but very nice shape, size, thinness, sapphire crystal for just over $100
2. Baltany and 3. Proxima
Some more original designs and getting better and better at finishing
4. Agree with the Citizen Forza titanium small seconds
5. Timex Ironman Adrenaline digital. Went on sale a few times to $59. Extremely legible, comfortable, great Indiglo
Over seiko. Prices are insane.
I work at Costco and we got in their Seiko 5 Sports with icy blue dial. Even at $350 CAD, I think it's too expensive.
You buy Seiko's today for the dial or the history ... Not the specs or value.
I am curious if there will be a Seiko bubble at some point?
In early 2024 I bought the first watch that I've ever truly fell in love with...a Bulova Lunar Pilot.
Nice!
Merry Christmas 🎁 watch people!!!
To be fair, the ascent may actually deserve to be here. That was a genuinely solid offering
Seiko's top tier are still outstanding
Seiko's entry level are hard to justify as others are making better optiins for less.
Yeah the spb453 and the navigator gmt are on my list for the next couple years
The win for me here is the Irn-Bru tee :) love it
It’s been a crazy decade. Just going back to 2015, I remember $1000 dollars would mean you could acquire some serious timepieces for a sub collection. This felt like a fortune for a hobby then. 2:14 love the small seconds so much… I asked for it for mt birthday in January
My Seiko hangover was my pickup of the Seiko Recraft SNKN37 that ships with zero, nada, nothing lume. My fav pickup of my 100 new watches this year was my Aragon 45mm red dial diver with tritium.
100 new watched?? thats crazy!
Aragon needs more attention!
He has more than two hands@@jacobtuck6735
Great recap and no lies detected. I guess the good news for Seiko is the quality complaints died down… because we were too busy ripping their face melting prices. The Kith collab was about as cringy as the Swatch moon fiasco from a few years ago.
Getting the Helm Komodo and Vanuatu was the highlight of my year. Affordable grails for me, and im still enjoying them so much.
I took delivery of my Clemence Munro - ordered in late 2023 and delivered in Spring 2024. Love it! The bracelet followed later and I still haven't got round to trying it on but the watch has looked great on a bunch of different third party straps ❤
My 2024 was going after the good seikos from the past few years at discount prices. I'll wait a few years to pounce on those nice 2024 citizens.
I forgot to mention that I hope to add a 41mm erebus ascent to my collection!
Yeah I have a few older Seiko's on my list but zero newer ones.
I hunted the last blue Baby Alpinist in the country. Apparently, when saving up for a watch, you have to be quick with the Japanese. And that's it. I don't have a big collection, I decided for a Seiko, one Seiko - that Seiko.

I'm not so much into the Origin, but the Ascent is a beautiful piece no matter the dial variation.
Watched this one with the wife this morning. She’s a big fan of Citizen especially watches with an Eco drive movement. She obviously has good taste.
4:57 Thank you 🎉
Nice to see Vario getting a mention
Excellent and entertaining 5/5 list as always. I didn’t realize Seestern had sent that message about the Erebus Lume. I love this. Treasure that watch brother.

San Martin made some great strides this year. The SN144 was awesome value for money
Proper roasting of Seiko. Anxious to hear what you think of their new Aquaracer-esque divers.
I’m generally a Seiko fan, but those belong in Nico’s ‘shite’ category.
Please make a 41/42 mm version of the Ascent. 🙂
Nice job, Seestern, for returning the favour - and nice job, Jody, for taking it on the chin.
Jody, any plans of reviewing their SeaQ clomage with the PT5000 movement? They're significantly thinner and very elegant.

When you can a Seiko homage with better specs and the same movement, then it's about time Seiko upped their game!
Ascent is best money spent so far this year for me yo. Will be my newyears eve watch. Vario is on my radar. Great video Jody! Seiko will be an option at Ali prices.
I guess Jody and I have very similar taste (probably why I like the channel): I bought the Zenshin, C63 Valor, and Metric Retro this year 😅
Thank YOU, Jody for another stellar year of fun shows. That Monstera behind you just seems to get more lovely with age! Best to you and the fam for 2025.
SRPL03 from Seiko was about it
Irn Bru rocks!
My biggest hit was to finally order an Erebus watch. Thanks for all the great videos.
The $1 Timex upset me the most this year 😂
Ha! My boss is still ranting that he had 1 in his cart but they sold out because he didn’t check out fast enough.
Jody, I would love for you to do a video on the best affordable thin and ultra thin watches in quartz and automatic. Great content as always.
The Islander Bridgehampton Mechanical Chronograph is sweet, especially at Black Friday prices!
A shot of a watch set to Friday the 13th… on Friday the 13th! (Said in Jody voice)
Glad to bé part of thé sucess, Frédéric from Paris France #1 french parisian fan....long live Jody...
I still think that digital watches are a pretty neat idea!
The SPB455 was a home run. That is my one nod to seiko and I bought it. I agree the rest of the lineup was meh at best.
Love the “ ginger “ t shirt ;)

Love the t shirt.
I didn’t know you filmed in a shed! Looks pretty nice to me!
Wasn’t the swatch x blancpain this year?
Good plastic fantastic for you
Bloody nearly bought one in interlaken this year, but I’d never wear it.
Hellooo Jody 👍🇺🇸
Helloooooo!!
Jody, please release Erebus ascent in 42mm for the large guys 😢
Does the rest of the world get the Irn Bru reference?
And I thought you might not mention Erebus. But I have to admit I do like my Ascent. Well done and thank you. Is it too early for a Merry Christmas.
I liked Maen Lunar classic, but I think pre-order is 2024 and it is not released until 2025
I was expecting some revival of the BOLDR “homage” of the women victims of radium 😅 I guess we all had enough with just one video about it
Thank you for the entertaining videos.
And thank YOU for watching!!
You had me at Top 5. Easiest hook in watch UA-cam. DUH
Love your videos, Jody, and love your Origin watch! Never heard of your brand until today, but you do great work. Will the white face Origin be restocked? I might just go for it. (Next year.)

You know what's Top 5? The purple fumé Ascent that is no longer being offered! 😭

Seiko is still the greatest for me...
Well now you got 2000+ views in 33 minutes :)
Never been a fan of Seiko so it doesn't surprise me to see they're No.1 in the miss category. The Timex enigma has to be a close second place. What crap. Just when I was wondering what to watch this Friday evening and then..........
Delighted to oblige!

My bottom 1 would be the Timex 170th anniversary dollar watch that no one could actually purchase....
👂 A 🚍⌚ ..... 😂😂😂
SN0144
Here we go again...
Ayeeeeeee!
Shame on Seiko indeed.
I didn't buy a watch this year.
Citizen are making some lovely watches but why oh why are they all integrated bracelets!? I hope 2025 is the end of that annoying trend.
My big miss is the Timex Weekender revamp. Everything got so much worse. Date and cyclops have no business on this sort of watch. The big “we” branding is hideous, and the font just looks gross. I've stopped buying Seiko, Casio is a much better value for money brand.

Seiko has been a big disappointment in recent years. Too much Hardlex and too many hollow end links for too much money.
First
Boom! Ten points!
