In the beginning of the tutorial, once I add smoke, I show you that this is a 3d effect and you can orbit the camera around..So, If you want to change the position of the emitter/meteor, then change the position of CC Particle World emitter in all the duplicated precomps and it should work. You can even animate the camera , but you have to add a camera in all the precomps though

Can’t figure out how to access the VC color vibrancy plugin…you say in the title that there are no plugins needed.

I am really sorry. You can use curves effect and decrease the Blue channel and green channel to create a similar effect.
Coming to VC Color Vibrance, it is a free plugin from VideoCopilot.net . It will take you hardly 5 mins to install it and is a bit better to colorize Glow. I suggest you to install it.
I said No plugins because, VC Color Vibrance is optional. You can use curves effect too
