  • I like testing out new gear, heck who doesn't? So when Dr Otek approached me about trying their waterproof MT6 pinpointer I thought sure why not. I could use a backup pinpointer anyway and if it can backup the claims it makes on their website maybe it could make its way to my everyday gear. Let's take a look at a basic overview of the unit today and then you can see what it helped find on a full 12 hour hunt in a few days.

Will you do a new video, with an updated review of the Dr. Otek MT-6 Pinpointer. In the Instruction Manual on pages 5-6, Dr. Otek explains how to make the detection range smaller. Achieving pinpoint accuracy by recalibrating balance. I have this pinpointer, and it works exactly as advertised.
It is not a proximity-pointer. It is a Pinpointer.
    Hope this helped ya out

There is a major flaw in this review. Your assertion that the Dr. Otek pinpointer is not actually a pinpointer...is totally wrong.
If you read the Dr. Otek User Manual for the MT6 Pinpointer, it describes how to rebalance the pinpointer on the fly, to get very precise target acquisition.
Here's how it's done.... "While probing with the pinpointer, a target is acquired and the light turns white while the pointer is at maximum vibration. This would be great, except the pointer is not actually touching the target. While the pointer is still vibrating and the led is white, a single press of the power button will recalibrate the pointer. Now, the light will be red or not on at all. As you move closer to the target, the pointer will reacquire and begin to vibrate and display colored light.
All you do is repeat this process, until the pinpointer only shows the white light... when you are actually touching your target. I hope this constructive criticism of your review, will be helpful in future reviews.
Just wanna get the story right Mr. Quarter Hoarder....#KeepProspecting

    Hi everyone,😁😁
I am Sarah from Drötek, We much appreciate Jason's real review of our product and your suggestion.
Regarding shortcoming the video mentioned, which may relate to our design concept. 👀👀👀
    1.vicinity pinpointer VS pinpointer
As we showed, our pinpointer is 360-degree detection. Maybe that is the reason why our pinpointer could detect in a relatively large range compared with others.
    2.no sounds.
On the one hand, The design without sound is for better waterproofing.as you know, MT-6 is fully waterproof to 10 meters underwater. On the other hand, it would avoid disturbing others when metal detecting and the vibration could replace sounds to remind you.
    3.battery
Thanks for your feedback, we have upgraded the better battery in Next batch of goods according to our user's request. Hope we could provide user better service and product further.
Thanks for your time to read my letter and welcome to discuss more via sarah@drotekor.com. We are more than happy to hear any suggestion from you guys.
Wish you have a good day
    Sarah

      I'm just randomly
Choosing who I make this comment to. I saw your comment and thought you needed the truth. The quarter hoarder got this one wrong. He did not follow through with his research when learning how to operate the Dr. Otek MT-6.
I'll try to keep it short, fact of the matter this pinpointer can be balanced on the Fly while acquiring Target. If the light is white and you are not touching your target yet, then you press the power button lightly one time. This will recalibrate the pinpointer back to a zero state. Now as you get closer to your target it will start its light cycle again. Sometimes you have to do it twice to actually get it to the sensitivity level where the light will only be white when you are actually touching your target.
I recently bought one and have used it many times and have no problems with it.

I think they are a little late to the party with that one. There are sub $40 ones that are pulse induction and IP68 with sound now. I don't recommend going cheap on a pinpointer though. Like Digging Canuck says, this is a priority piece of equipment in my opinion, like a good shovel!

I was expecting a water test with swim trunks and goggles.....must have been a little chilly on video day...lol
I have another brand vibrate only pin pointer from 20 years ago. I got used it's characteristics. No light, no buttons or sensitivity adjustments. Just held it straight up to turn it on and it went off after a timeout. Definitely some improvements on this one.
    Thanks for the review Jason.

  • @MadMadGruff

Did you not know about the sensitivity function?
    1) Dive in the hole on full sensitivity and find your targets approximate location.
    2) While it is vibrating quickly press the on off button to reduce its sensitivity and use that to close in on the exact location.
When you press the button you will find it stops vibrating, that is because you have set the detection radius limit, the four colour distances are now all much closer together than before and you can repeat this if necessary to make them smaller still and close right in on your target.
I use this pin pointer all the time, its great.

Great review. On the strength of it and the price, ($35 USD), I picked one up here in the UK. It works fine on rechargeable bats. You can recalibrate it to be a pinpointer too. Tested it to about 5m/15ft in a lake: no probs. A lot of fun with some interesting finds, ( mainly super corroded Roman, Victorian and C20 coins.) Finds not worth much cash but lots of fun for the price. Many thanks ... good hunting.

It does pin point mate.. you have to read the instructions. Its called 'balance' as you get close to target you press the on/off button for 1 second this will Re-balance the distance to the target and the LED's will change colour as well. So it is a pin pointer with a fine tunning 'balance' setting.
    Cheers

Quarter Hoarder got this one wrong prospector. I have an MT-6, and it does exactly what its supposed to do. Read the manual. It explains how to balance the pinpointer while you're on target. If the light turns white (and max vibration) and you have not touched your target yet, then your balance setting is too sensitive. You need to press the power button one time, and thisbwill decrease the sensitivity of the pinpointer. So now instead of max vibration and a white light,... the Led will be red and barely vibrating or not lit up at all. Now, begin to zero in on your target again, now when the Led is white, the pinpointer will actually be touching the target.
I commented to the quarter hoarder about this. So we'll see if he does a correction
