Dr Otek MT6-PRO Metal Detecting Pinpointer - Product Review & Thoughts

- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- Several years ago I did a review video of a pinpointer called the MT6 made by a company called Dr Otek. This was a budget pinpointer that although could of used some improvements wasn't bad for its price. Fast forward to today and Dr Otek came out with a brand new incarnation of its pinpointer, the MT6-PRO, that improved on its original design and technology so I was excited to see how it has come along. Here is my testing, review, and overall thoughts on their new unit, the MT6-Pro!
The MT6-Pro officially launches to the public on May 11th, but they are having a pre-sell event that will not only save you money but also include extra gifts as well. You can check it out here:
www.drotekor.c...
Once the pre-sell event is over. the PT6-PRO will be available on Amazon at the following link at normal price:

Thanks for your review, Jason! Very professional! We will continue to improve in the next generation of products. PS: 4.7 inches is the data we obtained when measuring large-volume metal objects, sorry we did not use common coins as reference objects.
why would you test it with large-volume metal? most objects in the ground are mostly small metal. i would not buy it just for that 4,7 false advertisement. looks more like 2.25``. just my opinion.
@@jayhook-zm1pw This is indeed a mistake in our work, we are sorry for this, we have modified the detection distance to 3.15 inches. In the following packaging, we will also correct this data.
Did he test it on the boost mode?
@@rikkiali8729 Not yet.
Would be good to see it up against another pinpointer to see how they compare. Thanks for this review!
This is one of the better and more honest reviews I've seen on this pinpointer!
I always love your review videos! I still tell people to look back at the series of videos you put out that reviewed inexpensive detectors. Keep up the great work!
Snagged mine this weekend on amazon for 20% off. $37 is not bad at all after all the positive reviews and videos Ive seen on this pointer!
I had the old one and it was huge. We got to review the MT-6 Pro and we are happy with it. Jason your reviews are the best👋👍
Thank you. I’ll have to see how you both scored it. I thought it was good for the price. It’s nice for people to have options if they can’t afford the high end ones.
@@QuarterHoarder we felt for the money it is a good value. Time will tell, I have been abusing it trying to kill it😂
Impressive presentation skills. I especially like the box flipping perfection.
I tried the trick of sliding a piece of metal up from the back of my pinpointer towards the tip until it begins to beep...then slide it back just until it stops...and got at least a 4 inch detection range on a dime. But I couldn`t find a way to make this permanent. I was given some no name brand to test two years ago and it`s still doing great. But I had to put something as a shim inside the battery compartment because the batteries kept "going dead" suddenly but I discovered (after throwing several away) that they weren`t making a good connection. This Dr Otek seems to be a nice product. I would buy it.
That was and still is a decent trick that you do with certain pinpointers. I remember it working best when you turn on the pinpointer and let it balance itself. Guys would wear a ring on that hand to keep the metal just on the fringe of setting it off so it makes it more sensitive to a metal target almost like a hair pin trigger on a gun. But it also causes problems with wet mineralized ground.
Love the video Jason. The Garrett Carrot is the best I've ever used. I end up wearing a hole in the tip of them my fault but they keep on working. My first Garrett pinpointer wad the black one. 12 or 13 years ago I bought that one and it still works. I've tried other brands nothing so far is comparable to the Garrett. Take Care
get shrink tubing that they use on automotive wire repairs--the size that fits battery cables on trucks[3/4] inch. shrink down onto pinpoint tip--while hot squeeze the tip end -it will bind to itself and keep out dirt and water.
Nice job Jason you an 2 other people did the same thing. They are all great reviews on a inexpensive tool that we need for digging up treasures. Have a great night.
I need a good cheap pin pointer for my grandson, I'll keep this one in mind when I decide to get one for him. I use a Tek-Point pin pointer I won from Tekntics a couple years ago, it's great.
Great job Jason! I still have my old Dr O and its fine when I forget to charge my Nokta. Can’t beat the deal, 30% makes it worth for a backup or beginner.
Detector Pro makes a killer pinpointer with great reach and it gets louder as you approach the target. It almost detects straight forward until you get near the tip.
I am a big fan of Quarter Hoarders and always will be and I'm only bringing up another detectorist who makes videos of setting detectors as new ones comes out because of the pinpointer he uses and he pinpoints at some amazing depths with perfect accuracy. Granted he's been at it for decades. I dont make anything off suggesting it I'm just replying after reading a lot of different comments about pinpointers.
I dont usually mention any other peoples videos but if anyone wants to see footage of a detectorists using a detector pro pinpointer in live action his videos come out under the name Detector Comparison. If you search his live field test called Manticore vs Deus 2 part 1. He also did several more within 2 weeks they all show then digging some banner targets from the Colonial era including a GW button. They're doing a live hunt comparing what several different detectors called the target if it even hit it at all as he was using the Deus II. He then dug it using the detector Pro pinpointer and the videos shows it working great.
I hope I didnt offend anybody posting this on this video its only about the pinpointer not other hunters or their machines I love both his and Quarter Hoarders videos as both hunt colonial states and mostly target these finds which is pretty much what I shoot for although Carter (Detector Comparison) does other videos scuba diving live digs at very old historic swimming sites between NY and Mass to show new detector models and recommends how to set them for stability in black sand and salt.
I think the reason I like the way he pinpoints is because he pulls targets a foot down and he only digs like a 6 or 8 inch hole without missing its crazy really
I have the dr otek mt6-pro and the garrett at pro. I can't use the otek in my mineralized soil here in western Oregon as it constantly falses. It probably works ok in dry sand and tot lots etc. maybe works in different soils?. The garrett works without issue for me and is my go to pointer.
THanks i was going to get one but i live in the same area! So i wont get one, thanks
Very interesting Mish , thanks for sharing your finds with us! Cheers
Thanks Jason!
Thank you Jason for an excellent review six stars sir
Thanks got the Dr Otek pin pointer!
I like my Garrett's pin pointer, that's still a great deal for maybe a backup.
Just ordered one! Thanks for the tips
Great, honest review Jason!
Thanks for the chance 🤠
The belt holster for it makes a great magazine holder also.
I bought this last month because I couldn't afford a garrett carrot.
I was not impressed. Yeah it was cheap. I would o ly use this as a spare, backup, if my Garrett was broke,or lost.
I really wanted this to work good, but it didn't work very well. It worked, not saying it didn't. Just not real well.
Good review. Thanks
The vibration? It's called Haptic Feedback. Excellent description and review! Thanks!
I really don't find having a screen on my pin pointer necessary, it just seems to be an extra drain on the battery and with the cost of batteries in todays world it could get a little costly. Also, it might be a little hard seeing what's on the screen when the pin pointer is in the hole, I'm more focused on whats in the hole versus what's on the pin pointer. But still a good price for the features. Great Review Quarter Hoarder!!!!😉👍
The screen is an interesting idea but you’re right that it’s not easy to see during normal use.
Thanks looking at sale on that to have a stand by.
Vigorous is a good word nothing wrong with that. Tangibility is the word for to the touch🙂Thanks for the review.
I’ll check it out. I currently have 2 GP type pointers that you need to be on top of the object to get them to go off. Or I’ll hold out until I can get a real Garrett Carrot.
im after a pinpointer with a strong vibration. Are they all the same or some stronger than others. Thanks
I love my old DR.ÖTEK pin pointer It has proximity adjustment. When it's close to the object I just press the button and it re-adjusts closer to the object you need to try it.
I’ll keep my Nokta Macro Pinpointer! But still a good and very fair review on your part. 👍
He said he's using big words to impress the Doctor. That's comedy gold! Hahahahahahahahaha
What do you think of the Garrett Pinpoint are made in the USA. I really do like to buy products made in this country if possible.
Garrett makes an excellent pinpointer, one of the best in the hobby. This video wasn’t intended to compare pinpointers but more just to show what this new one can do as a budget alternative.
TO BE HONEST! I was just about to go buy it till I seen the last con. The pin pointer making a new sound when it touches the object is SO IMPORTANT!! they need to fix that immediately, otherwise I was sold!
I have a very old black Garrett. It does the same I don't mind. I ordered this thing as for the price being waterproof and basically sound exactly the same definitely worth it for me. :)
Would like to know if it’s any good with small gold. Like pickers.
Newby question: Does having dirt between the target and the pinpointer change the signal?
Air tests are just a general representation of depth. Detecting in compacted dense soil or loose beach sand could alter the signal slightly. That’s one of the reasons a solid tone when you’re touching the target is so important, at least to me. Distance could change a little depending on conditions but touching it is always touching it.
Nice review. Can't beat the Whites trx pinpointer. But for the price not a bad deal
Well done 👍🤓
Thanks for the review. I JUMPED on it. Yippee
Dr Otek even included the 9V battery and lanyard! If it lasts over a year, it would be worthy of $40!
@7:46, Is that demo the maker’s demo? It looks like the pin pointer is working the way it should and maybe you had a defective one. I wouldn’t want one any way, because of the buttons rattling to me is a sure indication of cheap construction/design. Great demo Jason. 👍
No manufacture demos were included. I recorded all the tests myself with the unit they sent me so they would be true to what the product is.
@@QuarterHoarder I was just wondering why the indicator was working as the coin got closer, but at the end of your video, it wasn’t working then.
Use it the field for a day & give us your opinion, I would wrap the buttons in saranwrap or black electrical tape as they won't last a day in the muddy field
Do you think it could be louder as when you have your headphones on its not very loud?
Super : Thanks Man ! ❤
Thanks QH, nice little review buddy. ATB MMMD
Just wondering on the measurements, would dirt in the way not effect the accuracy of that test as well?
Dr Otek is a near anagram of Detector!
Will it last more than 4 months? I sure like my carrot it's still going strong after 5 years
It does seem to be made better than their predecessor but only time will tell how it holds up.
Where to buy it?
I pre-ord ordered and it came today!! I also signed up for the pre-order gift. Does anyone know when that will come?
UPDATE: I contacted Dr. Otek and they responded very quickly. They are putting my package together. I just wanted to give them credit for a very quick response. Great customer service. 👌
Right now I carry a nokta pointer and a MI4, I bought a 10 pack of 9v batteries, when those run out I might sell or gift my nokta away and just use the mi4
I rather spend the extra $50 and know I'm getting a quality, time tested pointer.
Well Done Sir !
Best pinpointer on the market is the Fisher Fpulse. I have a Garrett too, the Fpulse has better depth range. If you swing a Minelab, it will interfere with the performance. Must sit the detector 5-6 feet away.
Yes it is! Also the tek-point is the same thing as fisher f-pulse. Best pointers available
It was looking good for a while.. maybe he's working on his PhD . It would probably be good for a beginner but I guess it's better than how I learned how to pinpoint with a screwdriver.. has anybody else pinpointed with a screwdriver like back in the 80s and 90s? I wasn't taught that but that's just how I saw people do it.
Yes. What a pain some some scratched coins
looks like a good back up
Even Garretts can go wrong. Mine did shortly after buying. However, I managed to fix it.
Nothing wrong with cheap pointers imo.
Great info buddy
how are the bounty hunter pinpointers??
Would’ve been cool to see the “vicinity” pointer perform while submerged in the bucket of water.
Being that on the box it says it’s good to use in creeks and similar bodies of water.
Great video overall, I initially came here to see if I’m using this instrument correctly.
-beginner detector
Great Video
It gets 4.5 inches easy with steel. I've been trying mine while watching this video and my phone and drain pipes near me get picked up really easy.im guessing it's size and metal that's the diffrence
Great review
I got the same one
Nice.
Not a fan of the "vigorous" vibration but it looks good😁
It's just a useless battery drain unless it's used underwater
Looks nice
Great value for money being more than half the price of the Garrett etc … so happy days
Looks good for a mid range detector
Beautiful the class nice I like it 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You are not nit-picking. Your two "gripes" are a deal killer for us. I had my wallet out ready to go, but it's now back in my trousers. SIGH!
It’s hard to beat the carrot 🥕👍
I am kind of impressed tbh, if it proves to have some longevity and durability I may get one…
I had their old one 1 1/2 years ago and lost it in a field !!! Best thing that ever happened to me!! What a POS the Dr made !! Garrett!!!
That’s hilarious 😀
@DarlaDixon my mother-in-law this past Christmas got me another dr o !!! wtf ??? I gave it to a friend and now he hates me 😆
I would watch you review anything lol
I got one of these and it works great 👍
Give me my carrot. It has all the features I want. I use the three sensitive all the time. That's only one of the features it doesn't have but like you said for a beginner maybe. I started with the carrot so it's hard to make improvements. I think it's may be an injustice for a beginner though. Start with something good and just maybe you will find a new hobby.
@0:32 how many times to get it perfect..Haaaaa
That will be good for my grandson
👍
Hello Quarter Hoarder,Dog Tag Doug ,Rich and Matt
Made in the PRC. Buy American. Buy Garrett
How bad could the PRC be? After all, all out politicians and CEOs sent all our industry over there ;) wink wink 😉
hea hea hea, he said butt cap
Better than the old days...NO PINPOINTER.....use the edge of you coil...Where were these back then? :(
Tek-point and fisher f-pulse is better than all other pointers I've used. Far superior to Garrett.
My self who needs an lcd screen it just a gimmick just use the audio and vibration to find the target
Still using 9v batteries is a deal breaker .
I’ll stick with my 2 carrots and my XP MI-6
I think I'll stick to my Garrett carrot
Thank you you were helpful
hahatouchable that should be a new word
Give it to me😂
Good..but not good enough...just a good Cheap noise maker😂😂😂
Sorry Jason, I disagree. I used mine yesterday and it's rubbish. Erratic and bad audio!
I haven’t had this very long so I can’t say how it will act after prolonged use. I did notice that originally I used a 9Volt rechargeable battery that only had about 1/4 charge left (I didn’t use the included battery). The 1/4 charged battery gave off a muffled audio response so I swapped it for a fully charged 9Volt and it sounded much better. You could try putting in a better quality battery and see if your results improve as well.
Wow don’t blame you for wanting to make money, BUT I think that you hurt your Brand. Just saying.
Does not work well with the legend. Very bad interference.
Crappy product
I will stick with Garrett
This thing wallops the Carrot
I have a Garrett, Nokta and a GP pointer. Best is my 15 dollar gp.
