Stewart. Question : Where / Which is the follow on Video... Since this one... "Re Installing the Bees into these Mini Mating Nucs" you show here? Tried your index via UA-cam on Queen Rearing, but your talking about QR methods (!) Can you link this product to the " How to Install Bees" before (adding Queen Cell.) Video if you have one, or do an update to support this product... 👍 Purchased this from the mentioned Supplier (who show this video on their Website ! ) But we need the follow up information on how to use it. And, get it up and running before adding that Queen Cell ! ... Unless I am missing something !?! 😉 Thank you... 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
Hi Stewart, many thanks for these fabulous videos. This one was really helpful but I can't seem to find the subsequent one where hopefully you show your mating nucs in the apiary and compare how they got on. Please could you point me in the right direction? Thanks Jane
Hello. Great videos, just bought 2 Mann lake boxes but looking to find how I transfer mated queen etc into a national 5 frame nuc. I have found info on a frame that holds the mini nuc frames. But am hoping to follow what you do. Is this info on your paying subscribers channel. Thanks.
About how long does it take for the queen cell to hatch, once it's placed in the nuc? What kind of bees are placed in the nuc with her? Shouldn't it be drones? How long should she stay in the nuc before she's "mated"?
Hi Seth, Thanks for the questions. Virgin queens usually emerge around day 16 so getting the queen cell in a couple of days earlier than that would be good. The workers in the mating nuc are a mix from various hives, a good cupful of bees per nuc is usually enough. Drones in the mating nuc don't really help as you want the workers to draw comb and tend the new queen, drones for mating with the new queen come from the other hives you've selected in that apiary. Mating should take place fairly quickly after emergence but will vary depending on conditions, once mated and laying she needs to go into a larger nuc or hive otherwise there is a chance she could abscond. What would be the advantage or disadvantage between the mini or the medium nuc box that you showed or a deep framed nuc box that can have 4 or 5 deep langstroth frames
Hi J&B, mini nucs require fewer bees to populate but are more prone to changes in conditions such as weather. nuc's require far more bees and frames but are more able to withstand changes and less likely to swarm on a new queen which mini nucs can do. There are a lot more pro's and cons but these are just a sample to give a comparison. Stewart
Hi Larry, thanks for the comment. The smaller queen mating nucs are great for beekeepers who are rearing larger numbers of queens as they can successfully mate queen with just a few bees in the mating nuc. It allows the beekeeper to maintain more stocks of bees without depleting too many hives to fill the mating nucs. In order to get the queens mated and laying there is no huge advantage in using larger boxes and more bees however if you are only producing a small number of queens larger boxes would allow the queen to settle into a laying pattern and you could then assess her in a larger nuc whereas you can't really do that in a queen mating nuc. Pop ups appear from time to time suggesting related videos. Might you list them including title and hyperlink in your description area? Your videos are very well done. Thank you.
Hi Dave, thanks for your comments. The pop ups are part of a system called cards by UA-cam, I think they all appear in playlists I have created on my channel. I will see if I can list them, it is just a case of having enough time to manage it all. Failing that they are all in my playlists so should be fairly easily found. Stewart
Hi Natserog, the best queen rearing book I have in my collection is called Queen Bee: BIology, Rearing and Breeding by David Woodward. Try these affiliate links: UK: amzn.to/2x1rNFU USA: amzn.to/2igsDeQ Stewart
Hi Thijs, I'm not sure there are many commercially available wooden queen mating nucs but lots of beekeepers do make up their own and they come in a range of shapes and styles to suit the particular beekeepers needs. Stewart

@@TheNorfolkHoneyCo do you use a push in queen to introduce her to a nuc? I’m assuming the worker bees from her mating nuc don’t come?
Can use this with the nicot system as a cell builder ?

Thank you for the reply and information.
And thank you for the video.
I don’t understand why you don’t leave and/or give them their own honey to feed on during winter??? Thank you for your video.
Is there any advantage to using larger boxes and more bees for queen mating nucs? Thanx, LP
