2 for 2 using the 2 frame nucs with swarm cells this spring. Easy to manage, easy to monitor. One of the better tutorials I have seen on UA-cam. Thanks for providing user friendly instructions without a whole lot of fanfare.
Learned allot from you I started to keep bees watching your videos with others but learn so much from you cause unlike most bee videos you teach lot different alot more than others.love it .thank you.
David i built my mating nucs off your plans and they work AWESOME! I was just at y'all's store Saturday to pick up my nuc and wanted to mention Jimmy and Heather are SO FRIENDLY, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HELPFUL! In fact Heather is so helpful i went to carry some stuff out to my truck and heard someone not far behind. When i looked back it was a beautiful young lady toten a nuc plum full of bees to put in the bed of my truck. I didn't intend for her to lift that HEAVY thing and was going to come back in and get it. A sight i'm likely to never forget is a beautiful girl toten a box full of bees across the street in downtown Chatsworth :) WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE and SATISFACTION! It was the bee's, but not so much the bee's last year that impressed me to be a return customer this year. Honestly y'all are a class act outfit with CLASS ACT CUSTOMER CARE and not to mention something that's nearly GONE WITH THE WIND.....100 % PURE SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY!
Hi David Chris from the UK. Great vids, I am learning a lot from them. I am a first year beekeeper, I have done a the two beginner courses. Theory and Practical. And now have my first 12 bar Nuc installed 01 August 19, they are doing fine. Soon putting them away for the winter. Still a lot to learn and you are helping, Many thank.
Thank You David, been watching a lot of your videos, because you use the same methods as I do. I’ve been keeping bees for about 5-6 years. But end up losing them over Winter, only to have to buy them again every Spring, Extremely Frustrating. But I was trying So Hard not to use very much Pesticides. Going to start using lots now. I even tried using the OTS method, On/The/Spot, which worked pretty well. But I was in the middle of moving, and couldn’t take care of them. Might try again someday. I’ve used the Queen Castle two years and had Success both of them. All four mated and returned both years. I really like your Basically Queen Castle Split Up. I want to try those tiny Nucs, I believe they’ll work Great. Thanks again for all your videos. Keep Buzzing Along.
what I love about these is you use the same frame as your typical deep. I tried using the mini frames and it became such a hassle to try and support the mini frames in a standard deep box.
I just built two of those out of Cedar I transferred two frames can’t wait for a new queen to be born this is so simple I can’t believe thank you so much for the videos I am building at least six more of these my son has a meal we have cedar on the property we have all kinds of cedar to make what we want to make thank you
I guess im randomly asking but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Alejandro Alejandro Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
This is what I have been looking for for a long time. I just have a few hives and would like to have my bees survive with a insurance for queens for the season if needed in the late fall if necessary. I will try this year and hope it works.Thank you Barn yard Bees.
These are some of the best ideas I've seen out there! So practical that maybe even I could keep bees successfully. It actually makes me excited! I was wondering- could this mating nuc be downsized slightly to work with medium frames? I'm thinking of going with one size box for my whole operation and would like to use medium 8 frame boxes...Thanks so much for sharing!
I overwintered some 2 frame nucs in southen maine this winter. so far all are still viable, and looking like there gonna make it. i did bring them inside a garage for December, January and February
Great video, you have a nice and productive yet simple style, I like it. I have 3 frame queen castles and I had trouble raising laying workers in the middle nuc. Perhaps the pheremones from the other ones made a conflict for the middle one? I certainly will try your technique here to see if I can get some better results. Once again, thanks for sharing, from Canada
Thanks Dave for all the info on the Walk away nucs. I watch all of yours and The Fat Man Beekeeper as well as dfisher videos. Very informative, thanks bud.
Great channel. I am in the UK but always interesting to see how it is done elsewhere. I like your approach - very natural - letting the bees make their own queens who then mate naturally. I also really like that you allow them lots of natural comb so they can raise as many drones as they want to.
Great info. If I try this by removing frames from an existing hive, can I keep the 2 frame nucs next to the original hive, or do I need to move them 2+ miles away?
Hi David, Do you offer a cut list for your viewers for your 5 frame & 2 frame deep nuc? I built 6 deep supers this morning from one sheet of plywood...no rabbet joints...styled like your nuc! Thanks!
Thank you for the video. I am a new beekeeper getting my bees (nuc) end of april. My question is: if I am succesful in rearing more queens than I need, what do I do whith the extra queens/nucs? On the nucs that dont rear a queen, do I add those bees back into an existing hive? Thank you, Tami
Thank you so much for your video! I am in state WA and it rains a lot. What is your opinion on the plywood material you made your nucs can I cook it in parafin and oil for preservation? Like I mentioned it rains a lot an regular outdoor paint is not helping much.
How late is too late to make walk away splits like this? I'm in central Texas. I made one successful spit in March, but 3 didn't produce Queen. But I'm still trying. I'm trying not to take eggs from my two production hives. Or if I can, could you make video on how to do that without demoralizing the colonies? Thanks for all the videos you make available for us all to learn from.
Fun video. I like your experiment. I'm curious what you think about how far away to put smaller nucs and mini nuc style stuff to keep them from being overwhelmed by nearby large bee hives, especially with a bee yard like yours. Its also really fun to see your bee yard and the rows of hive boxes. It looks very clean and peaceful.
When I make my mating NUCs and load them with a ready to emerge queen cell, how far from the donor hive do the NUCs need to be? I'm thinking that the majority of bees in the NUC are nurse bees so it's likely they will stay with the brood. I only have a half acre to work with so, do I need to find a location far away for the NUCs?
Do you have the directions to make these two frame nuc boxes? Thanks for video very informative. Just getting into raising queens and this looks simple. Thanks!!
When did you make this video, just wondering what month as I want to do some splits as early as possible. I get the night temps and everything just curious how early there’s enough drones usually? I’ve made 20 of these mating nucs and chomping at the bit to get started. Thanks Dave and being an apprentice bee keeper I just love your videos and all the knowledge you freely share, you’re an awesome guy! Thanks, oh and btw I ordered 2 packages from BYB’s and they have done wonderful actually made 7 splits off of them and as of now they’re all doing well! 🐝😊👍
So basically, you can make queens without seeing queen cells if you have day old eggs and the bees will make a queen out of it. The new queen flies off and comes back to the hive it flew from. One flew the cuckoo's nest and then came back.
hello again David great vids I'm learning so much, I'm so new at this in the video you say make sure you have drones when you start these mini nucs, do you mean have drones in the parent hive or have some drones on the frame you start the mini nuc on? thanks
Thanks Dave for the excellent video. I have old frames available that some had honey in them which was extracted. Is there any downside to using one of these frames in the queen mating nuc?
Hi. Thanks for this video. I'm going to try if I can get some made. David do you have video on how you add starter strip and fishing line to your frames? I just ordered case of Rite-Cell foundation. Can I rip those down for starter strips? Thanks again. Always appreciate the info.
Hi David, really love your videos. I saw you gave a dimension list to another commenter, but was wondering if you'd consider making a video of you actually building one. I'm not great at woodworking, and seeing people actually building equipment encourages me. Also, a while back, you made a video of yourself building a fat bee man style feeder for your mini mating nucs. They looked great, but you don't seem to be using them. Was wondering why. Wish I lived closer (central Florida) so I could visit. Maybe one day, but meanwhile keep those videos coming. Thanks again!
I have a question, is it ok to put down landscaping cloth underneath your hives to keep the weed growth down and so I don't have to disturb the bees with weed eating around the hives?
I have a package coming, I have 4 nuc boxes. I also have a full hive. I have been gathering supplies and information for a few months. I’m going to buy a hive for $180 full of bees. Is there a way to use a virgin queen to start a hive?
David i have a question, how far away from a old barn would you set up a bee apiary. I guess my question would be will the bees find a barn a place to inhabit...
Hello Dave..been watching your channel for a while , and have subscribed for more info...I find your videos very helpful....and am wondering when making queens in these mating nuc ..would you say the frame from the donor hive to use is the one next too the frame you find the queen on? I been looking at my hives and when I spot the Queen I find the frame you speak of to be on either side ????? what is your opinion on this?....I am planing on doing this this weekend....Thanks again for sharing your Journey Robb
Dave, do you have a problem with SHB's getting into your pollen patties? I made some pollen Substitute before (made with Honey as a binder) and found plenty of SHB larvae mucking up the pattie. Maybe it's not the same as the store bought pattie, not sure. Do you ever have problems with the SHB's in the mating Nucs?
Thanks for the great videos Dave. Question: I have a hive five weeks out from a package. When I get up to 8-9 frames full I would like to split. Would it be ok to do the split during the summer dearth? and do you recommend a two frame split to make a queen or 5 with mated queen? Suggestions..
One more question...With these being so narrow, is there any danger of them blowing/tipping over? I'm in Texas and you know how the wind blows here. LOL
Hi David, this is the video I needed to see! I do want to ask one thing. If I decided to graft some queen cells in this two frame nuc, how many grafts should I put in? I guess I'm worried about too many queens hatching near the same time. Thanks in advance!
Someone mentioned a cut list for the nucs from the 4x8 sheets of advantech. Do you have a cut list that would cut down on waste when building the nucs?

I’ve been watching bee videos for 2 years now! Can’t wait to get all my own stuff. I’m going to keep it in my front yard in town due to limited space.
I guess im randomly asking but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account??

@Louie Jayce instablaster ;)
@Alejandro Alejandro Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.

@Alejandro Alejandro It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Louie Jayce No problem :)
I'm getting my husband to make some of these right away! What a great system. Thanks much.
Thanks David: Built two 2 frame and one 3 frame from scraps. Will do more as a rainy day project.

Hello, I am new to your videos and I love them. So much information. I am about 2 weeks to starting my 1st Nuc. Yayyyyy
Thank you, very informative videos! I keep coming back when I have a question about bees.
David- very informative video. Thank you for taking the time to explain thoroughly!

Than you. 🐝
Thanks Dave for all the info on the Walk away nucs. I watch all of yours and The Fat Man Beekeeper as well as dfisher videos. Very informative, thanks bud.
David what is the plan for nucs that dont "take"? Do you just shake them back into an established hive or just add a fresh frame and try again. Thanx
Good session.....what is pro/con of 2 frame mating Nuc vs using 5 frame Nuc box? Thanks
Great vid Dave, the best one for me yet. Can't wait to try this. Thank you.
Great video David. I built six of these queen mating nucs last fall. Lost all my bees over winter. So I have to start over.
Great channel. I am in the UK but always interesting to see how it is done elsewhere. I like your approach - very natural - letting the bees make their own queens who then mate naturally. I also really like that you allow them lots of natural comb so they can raise as many drones as they want to.
Thank you again for another great video David! i have to try these 2 frame nucs!
I built 4 of these Nucs yesterday from your cut sheet with just a couple of minor modifications. I cant wait for it to warm up in oHIo!
Where did you get the cut sheet
@@codysmith1799 It is in the description (show more) in this video ua-cam.com/video/WiEp0O3zMqg/v-deo.html on David's channel.

Do you have another yard for the 2 frame hives, so the other hives don't rob them out
what size plywood is that osb i would like to make some of those boxes do you have measurments great videos thanks
Do you put rabbets on these boxes? Or is it just the handles
@barnyardbees, I noticed a lot of your five frame and to frame nukes are made of particle board. Is there no concern about the chemicals?
That's not particle board, it's OSB. Not sure if that matters as far as chemicals go, but ...

IF you let your Queens start lay eggs in the mating nucs could you gather frames from sevral mating nucs and make a nuc to winter?
How do you tighten the fishing line on your starter strip frames. Thanks for your time putting these videos out.
Thanks dave very informative. Wish you and Jimmy a very good year.
Fun video. I like your experiment.

What kind of feeder do you use on the queen mating nuc? Do you screw the nuc to the 4x4’s to keep it from blowing over with spring storms?
So basically, you can make queens without seeing queen cells if you have day old eggs and the bees will make a queen out of it. The new queen flies off and comes back to the hive it flew from. One flew the cuckoo's nest and then came back.

What gardening zone are you in? I have splits and a queen castle going and I'm in 5b. Do you think it's too late for queens to mate?
Hello David, How do you make the feeders for your 2 frame nucs? Newbie here... Thank you
Trying to see if i can keep bees in my urban back yard. Thanks for all your information.

Great video. I see where you use fishing line on your frames horizontally. Can you briefly tell me how you string it? thanks.
You said it is best to do it early in the year. Is mid May too late?
I have a question, is it ok to put down landscaping cloth underneath your hives to keep the weed growth down and so I don't have to disturb the bees with weed eating around the hives?
Nice tips. Thanks for sharing your experience. Théo (from France)
David there was a good wiggle dance going on, on that frame. Good video y'all
hi, great video, Dave, can you show the feeder you made for the 2 hive nuc and how that works?
I have a package coming, I have 4 nuc boxes. I also have a full hive. I have been gathering supplies and information for a few months. I’m going to buy a hive for $180 full of bees. Is there a way to use a virgin queen to start a hive?

What type of feeder do you use that fits in the mini boxes?
Dave, do you have a problem with SHB's getting into your pollen patties? I made some pollen Substitute before (made with Honey as a binder) and found plenty of SHB larvae mucking up the pattie. Maybe it's not the same as the store bought pattie, not sure. Do you ever have problems with the SHB's in the mating Nucs?
Hi Dave, I currently have 5 frame wooden nuc. Can I use a 5 frame nuc as a matting nuc?
Excellent videos man.
David, how do you tie off that fishing line so that it doesn't come loose and is not slack?
Look like great idea I will try this technique and able gifts to our friend. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the great videos Dave. Question: I have a hive five weeks out from a package. When I get up to 8-9 frames full I would like to split. Would it be ok to do the split during the summer dearth? and do you recommend a two frame split to make a queen or 5 with mated queen? Suggestions..

Hi David. Great video.. do you have the plans for these mini nucs?
Someone mentioned a cut list for the nucs from the 4x8 sheets of advantech. Do you have a cut list that would cut down on waste when building the nucs?
I thought there had to be more bees for them to create a queen cell. This works well with just one frame of bees?
how much oxilic acid in a sulimation stick, would you recommend when the 5 frame nuke is 2 or three frames of brood?
I need to get some of these 2 frame nucs!
Dave, what is the quality of the queens with these splits? I have always understood that if you allow small colonies to produce their own queens, they end up being of inferior quality. Vas
Do you have any problems with the stronger hives robbing them?
So let me get this straight i want to make sure i got this... lol, if i were to take a queenless frame with correct brood, honey, pollen and put it in a mateing nuc with a empy frame will the nurse bees make a queen cell to re queen? Is that how that works your basically forceing them to make another queen right? Just want to make sure i can fully understand how to do it
Another great video, Thanks David
David, new bk here. Those look like deep frames. Can it be done with medium frames if I were to use two frames of bees? Thanks for posting this video.
I was thinking about how you would clean the hive body. Does Advantech stand up to the force a pressure washer produces?
Lester Wetherell That's a good idea, maybe a heated water model so it doesn't take as long to remove Wax residue! David keep the videos coming!
Now you are talking about a steam cleaner! Much more expensive and not very readily available. I also imagine the steam cleaner would start to break down the Advantech material.
David why use these nucs instead of a 5 frame since you will transfer them to a 5 frame later anyway? Seems like an extra step. Thanks, John
Makes sense! Thank you and great videos
Awesome video. Can’t wait to give it a try!
Hi, do you use the queens that these 2 frame mating nucs make? I thought that theses queens are of inferior quality as there aren't enough bees to produce lots of Royal jelly.
When a queen goes on a mating flight does she return to the hive or does she sit on a branch nearby?
Would it hurt to use foundation frame or a drawn frame for the new frame with the other frame of bees?
It very very useful information I really impressed.
5Star.
Just wondering - do you destroy surplus queen cells or do you let nature take its course?
If i bought a 5 frame nuc, do you think this would work for me? I live in Louisiana, and have very short winters
Ha David do u think they would had survived below freezing for 3 weeks night and day I like your videos they are great thanks
Sir thanks for yr good video.iam an indian bee keeper.
How do you feed these skinny nucs? Spacer frame for the patty but the syrup-community feeding??
I've just cut all the wood up and it's not going together what size frames are you using ??
Odlični nukleus, bravo👍
what does the hive feeder that you put on the top look like?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge kind man! God bless you ❤
