I love how the hedgehog just politely walked and looked around while you were explaining things, or doing things that didn’t involve him in the moment!!!
This is a fantastic video. I've seen too many where people are too rough with these sensitive animals. I like how you kept far away from his eyes & face while bathing, very good. Also the low water level, warm temperature & slow movements play a huge role in comforting the hog. This will also help you bond with the little one :) really glad to see you taking such great care of your hog, have a wonderful day
TrendiKelli TrendiKelli Make a deal, after a year of begging I made a deal with my dad that if I got 9.4 for final grade he’d get me a hedgehog. Guess who got 9.6 and has a hedgehog now. Haha
Ah, mine is a bit like that. Pick him up with soft cloth or something like that, one he chills down, then use your hands to pick him up. handle him a bit every day so he gets used to you.
Olivier Lopez I got mine from a breeder. He's grouchy when I wake him up but as soon as I wave some food (he loved mealworms) in his face he's fine. I can hold him and he doesn't quill me. It takes patience as they're not prone to trust humans so they take time. He'll come around. I promise :) try putting an old T-shirt that smells like you in there with him and then handle him holding that. That way he'll realise that it is a smell he recognises as not harmful to him and that doesn't pose any sort of threat to him at all. That's how I tamed mine and he's lovely once he's in my hands now. Hope that helps 😊
It's a little better now. When I hold mine for a couple of minutes it starts relaxing slowly until he unwraps hiw spiky ball and tries to walk away, and he doesn't smell as bad as when he was just 2 months old (it's 6 months old now) and doesn't cover everything in poop like he used to, but is still a little pooping machine and not very sociable.
Awwww Miss Teazel you did a great job at tubby time! Hahah I was impressed how well she seemed to behave! I bet shes glad to be done with baths for a while now! Nice to see a new video from you! :)
you take such good care of your hedgie! I'm happy to see how passionate you are about being kind to your pets, and what a loving mommy you are to them. nice videos, too!!! keep it up :)
Great video! Teazel's looking gorgeous! Does Teazel ever like to swim? I put a plastic block in the full bath and run the water just out of his depth. Albie chooses to launch himself off the block and then climb back on to rest, haha! :)
+Big Blue Swisher wow I can't believe it's been 2 years but here's the story. we adopted our Harper when she was already somewhere between 2 and 3 years old and we had her for the past 2 years but she recently passed. before she passed away she was such an amazing sweet girl and she'll always have a special place in my heart
+isabella condon ohh. I'm sorry to hear about Harper. It's a shame they live such short lives. Thanks you very much for sharing memories of her with me :) I am fascinated by hedgehog personalities. Do you have any videos of her ?
My hedgehog has only been with me for less than a week, I think she's warming up to me but I am still a bit nervous holding her without gloves. How do you get a hedgehog to trust you more? I put my shirt into the cage already and I handle her for two hours from 7pm to 9pm. I usually have one hand in a glove and the other one no glove and feeding her. I try to get her used to being handled and I talk to her a lot. Is there other stuff I can do?
They are, but not in a way you might expect. They are unique & can't show affection in ways you might be used to from dogs, cats etc. but they are sort of quiet explorers who are easily frightened. As with most animal friendships, their personality towards you will often be a mirror of your attitude towards them
I was told NOT to use oatmeal bathing techniques as hedgies are more alkaline naturally (as opposed to human skin which is slightly more acidic on the pH scale) and oatmeal is also alkaline, so this could potentially dry out their skin even more. Does oatmeal bathes actually help your hedgie? :)
Gigabrit oatmeal baths are a natural source so that is why people suggest it and it shouldn't dry there skin out... Most products containing oat meal are suppose to stop dry skin. So idk who told you this, but you could also be right, btw i don't own a hedgehog but i have been doing research.
An option that I used was that if he bit me, I would gently blow in his face until he stopped. It doesn't hurt or frighten him but he begins to associate biting with his punishment. Hope this helps.
When mine had been very young and bit me I would simply lift him gently and stare straight at him for a moment when he did this. Then put him in his bed. Do not become angry because you will scare them beyond repair. Also keep in mind that their eyes aren't very good, for instance they probably won't recognize your face. But your smell. So perfumes, fragrances, or other things can confuse them as that is their primary sense. Handling them gently with bare hands helps bonding
I got a hedgehog about 3 weeks ago, and i'm not sure when to introduce him to the bath. I got a tub and filled it with neutral in temperature water and just set him in it , so the big chunks of poop come off. Took him out and just dried him off. He really hated it, and I'm still struggling with him not curling into a full of what I like to call "Armadillo mode" when he goes into full ball mode, he does this every time i touch him, or move to fast, I'm unable to pick him up without a towel thanks to it. Please help!
Hey guys, something I've learned to help me bond with my hedgehog: hold them gently, approach them slowly and quietly. Makes a big difference as their eyes aren't the best. Using bare hands helps with them recognize your scent (their strongest sense) and the biggest bonding move I had - one day I held him in one hand and fed him from his bowl in my other hand. It allowed him to ease up and realize I only wanted to help him.
Yes they are. When they are happy and content their spines say down like I the video but when they are scared they put them up and it hurts. You learn to get used to it. When they are down they don't hurt
Some people bathe their animals for multiple reasons. I bathe my 8 year old cat because she is to fat to clean her self properly and she is to head strong to try and diet her (she finds ways to get to food). So she smells horrible. Or if they rolled around in there poop (I had to clean my hamster once because he kept rolling in his pee and oh god. was it a horrible stench) Or their pet just likes bath time ?
African pygmy hedgehogs are a special breed of hedgehogs that can't survive in nature due to their allergies and inability to survive in less than 22 degrees Celsius or so, in addition they need to be bathed because they are very susceptible to disease and infection and need to be cleaned to be healthy.
You should never be bathing their face. Do not splash water or anything near their eyes or nose. You will terrify them and it is cruel. I am not trying to be rude but simply trying to tell you how severe it is for them
This might not be a wise question but I must ask, when is it a good time to wash your hedgehog? Every other day? One a month? I'm looking into getting a hedgehog and would really appreciate an answer from anyone. :) thanks!
Each one has a different personality ;) I would recommend giving them a good space to run around and explore. Mine loves crawling around my room, just keep anything small or shiny away from the floor or where they can reach
+Big Blue Swisher thank you. The only thing is, the only place she can really go is under my bed. It's pretty much her cage some space then my bed lol so when she goes under there she just stays back there and doesn't come out till I get her and once I just left her in my room and I couldn't find her and she somehow got into my closet at was hiding in there haha it was funny.
+ArtistExtraordinaire01 yes this sounds very familiar. Haha they like to go find a place to hide or curl up in the dark, it's fun to them. They might usually be seen darting from one hiding place to another, scurrying hilariously.. But there have been many times where I have to spend a minute or two trying to find his latest hiding spot, as they are very quiet and will not respond to things like calling their name. Here's a tip though, while they won't respond to that.. They will definitely respond to a food pellet or treat placed near them when hiding. So if they are curled or in a spot that you cannot lift them from gently, try this before touching them. It will also teach them to associate being found by you as a game that is rewarded with treats (; they won't mind that their perfect hiding spot has been foiled so much anymore. As always, approach them slowly and calmly.. As their eyes aren't very good & they have sensitive ears. I hope some of this helps :))
+ArtistExtraordinaire01 forgive me for going off on an explanation - I don't mean to assume that you don't know a good deal about them or anything. I like to post so that a passerby reader might learn something about these animals as well. One last thing: wearing a shirt for one hour then placing it on the floor loosely is as appreciated as giving them a castle to hide in. Chances are they will burrow into it and explore along their way around your room, which also helps them associate your scent with comfort
Hedgehogs are very independent. They can go along perfectly fine without you and not get lonely ;) they are also very quiet and won't cause a huge mess. They like to hide & have a very unique personality that is easily lovable. But some research needs to be done so you don't accidentally harm them

Just wanted to spread the word but there is a wonderful organic natural shampoo especially made for Hedgies, I have to bottles and they are wonderful I got it from Hedgehogs and Friends. They have a website and they are on istagram and fb. I totally recommend them if you want totally hedgehog friendly shampoo!!!

TrendiKelli TrendiKelli Make a deal, after a year of begging I made a deal with my dad that if I got 9.4 for final grade he’d get me a hedgehog. Guess who got 9.6 and has a hedgehog now. Haha
Same
Awh such a cutie! I thought she would be curling up in a ball but she seemed not to mind it! :)
aww your hedgie is soo cute!
Man, that hedgehog is so docile. Mine becomes a spiky ball as soon as I get close to him :(
Ah, mine is a bit like that. Pick him up with soft cloth or something like that, one he chills down, then use your hands to pick him up. handle him a bit every day so he gets used to you.
I do that, but he starts pooping all the time, like a way to make me put him back in his house, it's like a poop machine
Olivier Lopez Ch same with one of ours and when they pop and make noise its called hissing :)
It's a little better now. When I hold mine for a couple of minutes it starts relaxing slowly until he unwraps hiw spiky ball and tries to walk away, and he doesn't smell as bad as when he was just 2 months old (it's 6 months old now) and doesn't cover everything in poop like he used to, but is still a little pooping machine and not very sociable.
mrs teazel appears to be more calm with her baths now!!!!! she is so sweet!!
Awwww Miss Teazel you did a great job at tubby time! Hahah I was impressed how well she seemed to behave! I bet shes glad to be done with baths for a while now! Nice to see a new video from you! :)

Great video! Teazel's looking gorgeous! Does Teazel ever like to swim? I put a plastic block in the full bath and run the water just out of his depth. Albie chooses to launch himself off the block and then climb back on to rest, haha! :)

Teazle is such a good girl, my cousin's hedgehog freaks out when water hits him, even if she bathes him like how you do! :D
My hedgehog has only been with me for less than a week, I think she's warming up to me but I am still a bit nervous holding her without gloves. How do you get a hedgehog to trust you more? I put my shirt into the cage already and I handle her for two hours from 7pm to 9pm. I usually have one hand in a glove and the other one no glove and feeding her. at first when you sped up the video, I thought you were beating the hedgehog at first. 😂
Lol did look a little violent 😂
Aww, a Sonic given a bath!
are hedgehogs friendly animals? because i really want one

Your hedgehog was so cute
Can you make a video on what kind of good is good for hedgehogs and what is not good for hedgehogs?
I am just wondering can you use dawn dish soap? And if not can you get the shampoo that you use at pet smart? Think video was so helpful thanks!
how did you get so blessed with a nicely behaved hedgie?? mine’s so sassy and he’s a lil brat (if ur listening sonic i still love you)
is that sonic?
yes it is
How much does a hedgehog normally cost?
About $200-$250 for the hedgehog itself and then $100-$200 for everything it needs
I got a beautiful White Apricot hedgie for $150
I got mine for $100 but I know that can be more pricey. Then her supplies cost $175
Its like $20 in my country 🦔
FOR REAL
is it normal if your hedgehog goes a little pink when u bath it
Ericka P water might be a bit too hot.
What if my hedgehog poops a shit load in the sink...?
Wei Jessica umm i suggest to drain it and fill it up with some clean water... Btw i dont own hedgehog but i want one so this is what i suggest
Wei Jessica if you buy a small fish net from the pet store, you can use that to fish out the poop.
Plz plz answer me whats the paper or thing that you use to cover the walls of the c and c cage ?
Can you please, please, please do a video on how to get your hedgehog to stop biting? Thanks
An option that I used was that if he bit me, I would gently blow in his face until he stopped. It doesn't hurt or frighten him but he begins to associate biting with his punishment. Hope this helps.

POV: you don’t have a hedgehog, you just wanna watch a video about bathing a hedgehog
i am a American i am living in Asia now. And you can get a hedgehog for 500 baht. The Asia people call it baht. 500 bath here it is EXTREMELY cheap.
ok so since our hedgehog found us in our own garden, would it have fleas?
Yes u can use heating lamps I use one for my hedgie
How do yoou wash the underside (furside) of the hedgehog?
How do you know that your hedgehog REALLY needs a full bath? (Sorry I'm new at this I'm learning)
If your hedgie is smelly or have been pooping a lot lately, and you haven't cleaned the cage, you should give it a bath
I tried giving my hedgehog a bath but he got mad and used chaos control! Not cool man!
I'm having the same issue with my Chief...
When he is stressed/scared he will roll into a ball.
Seriously. Do u not know anything about hedgehogs? Snowdrophedgie has a video on it dumbass
Actually I didnt for awhile. and...thanks I guess?
Hey guys, something I've learned to help me bond with my hedgehog: hold them gently, approach them slowly and quietly. Makes a big difference as their eyes aren't the best. i would make sure that the treat u give s/he is not one that they love, or they might self anoint and get dirty again
How often do u need to wash them ?
just wondering, do her spines get tangled? or, why do you brush them off?
My hedgehog keep running in the sink.also, I don't have heated water sink
does cooing help them relax?
How do you give your hedgehog a foot bath? And also how do you dry him/him?
Hi there! Loved your video!! How do you get rid of fleas?? Can anyone tell me?
I found a way to remove the fleas!! Thanks anyway...
Can you make a video about Oatmeal bath.
I bought a hedgehog for my 21 year old daughter.. she has wanted 1,what should we know?
what time can i bathe hedgehog?
My hedgehog has trouble shaking off after a bath
Are hedgehogs spines sharp?
Yes they are. When they are happy and content their spines say down like I the video but when they are scared they put them up and it hurts. You learn to get used to it. When they are down they don't hurt
do you need to use shampoo to the point where there are suds or only a little bit?
Just a drop or two
I JUST got my hedgehog and it hurt me:( ouchie but it's okay can you please make a vid on getting to know your hedgehog?
Can you use heating lamps for hedges
I recommend gently jet washing your hedgehog to get the dirt from between the spines
PLZ post more videos!!!! PLZ these are really helpful for me!!
How do they wash themselves in nature? Do you really "need" to bath them?
Some people bathe their animals for multiple reasons.
I bathe my 8 year old cat because she is to fat to clean her self properly and she is to head strong to try and diet her (she finds ways to get to food). So she smells horrible. Or if they rolled around in there poop (I had to clean my hamster once because he kept rolling in his pee and oh god. was it a horrible stench)
Or their pet just likes bath time ?
African pygmy hedgehogs are a special breed of hedgehogs that can't survive in nature due to their allergies and inability to survive in less than 22 degrees Celsius or so, in addition they need to be bathed because they are very susceptible to disease and infection and need to be cleaned to be healthy.
How hot do Hedgehogs have to be in centigrade
LOVE your videos so helpful!!!
So cute.
where do you buy your hedgehogs pet shampoo?
How many times do u have to wash her per month
Jessica D.B. Probably only 1 - 3 times. I do recommend give them weekly foot baths though.
Jennifer Maher tnx
How do you rinse soap out of their eyes if they get it in them
You should never be bathing their face. Do not splash water or anything near their eyes or nose. You will terrify them and it is cruel. I am not trying to be rude but simply trying to tell you how severe it is for them
Thank you!
Where did you get your hedgehog?
Can you please make a video about how to bathe your Guinea pigs
This might not be a wise question but I must ask, when is it a good time to wash your hedgehog? Every other day? One a month? I'm looking into getting a hedgehog and would really appreciate an answer from anyone. :) thanks!
Once a month
Claudia Vits Thank you!! ((:
Can u make a vid on how to bathe piggys plz
i just got snoop hogg today
thanks
My hedgehog doesn't run on her wheel at all! What do I do!
Each one has a different personality ;) I would recommend giving them a good space to run around and explore. Mine loves crawling around my room, just keep anything small or shiny away from the floor or where they can reach

Where do you get the shampoo?
How do you get one
why should i get a Hedgehog? i do live alone, might be good company, but very busy person.
Hedgehogs wont be good pets if u lave them in captivity
+TheMcMater Can i bath my 2 month old hedgehog and how often ??
Katie Chatfield thanks
Hedgehogs are very independent. They can go along perfectly fine without you and not get lonely ;) they are also very quiet and won't cause a huge mess. They like to hide & have a very unique personality that is easily lovable. But some research needs to be done so you don't accidentally harm them

Two bottles of the shampoo*
Should i rinse my hedgehog after an oatmeal bath?
Can i bath my 2 month old hedgehog and how often ??
Yes and every time it gets messy
mat chan ok thanks
+Martin Legaspi it's alright
I bath my hedgehog once every month but I give her weekly foot baths.
Better to start them early. Keep it as gentle process so they won't be alarmed. :)
Great video. Thanks for sharing
