Louis Koo completely lit up the screen, I've never seen him chew up a scene so well in a role.
It’s a teamwork! We have to concern other characters, such as Sam Hung and second boss of Philip Ng.
It definitely shines as a ensemble cast led movie 👍
Just saw it in cinema in the UK, I’m originally from Hong Kong. It was quite an experience because with the rise of streaming, I have sat through films alone in empty cinemas. But when I went to see this film, it was packed (most of them Hong Kongers) and everyone was buzzing with excitement.
It certainly lives up to its hype. I’m not usually an action film type of a person. I cannot stomach films that are too gory or violent but the tension and buildup in this film got me invested, I was glued to the screen the whole time. You really feel and root for these characters. I was clenching my fist so hard during that final fight, really was on the edge of my seat, wanting to know how it would resolve.
Crazy ride of a film. The dedication in the production design is on a different level. There is so much heart and nostalgia. The themes are quite relevant to this generation of Hong Kong people but not exclusively. Thank you for your review, glad to see someone from the UK, who doesn’t exactly share my cultural background (though you seem to have such a knowledge of Hong Kong action films) enjoyed it as much as I do.

I absolutely adore HK, i was married there and my wife and her family are also all from Canton province, we visit HK every time we return back to see them. As for HK movies, I've been watching them for so very long ( about 40 years now) and feel much more affinity to them than I do to American or European movies.

Watched and thoroughly enjoyed this at the flagship Cineworld in Leicester Square, London last night. It was sold out. 98% of the audience were of South East Asia descent by the look of it.
Some excellent fight scenes. Really good drama and acting too.
The lady sat next to me said it was too violent once the movie ended but she enjoyed it. She was also a big fan of Hong Kong action movies. 😎
First time on this channel but anyone who has Fist of Legend on prominent display is a man of class.

wow this looks awesome i really hope to get to see this at the cinema, giving me (although not a hong kong movie) monkey man vibes with its raw and brutal look, that was great on the big screen, cheers looking forward to this film

Looking forward checking this one out, but unfortunately I will have to wait longer as Well Go USA announced the release date of the film for October.
Wow! That’s far away! I was sure it would be with you in the USA just after us here in the U.K. well worth the wait though!
UPDATED: Well Go USA has changed its release date to August 9 which is great news for North American viewers (I’m Canadian BTW and that may apply similarly to Canadian audiences as well) so it should be worth a little wait to come out during summer break.

@@TheFanaticalDragon - My own triple-bill. Watching Furiosa twice (Dolby Cinema then IMAX with Laser GT) followed by Twilight of the Warriors. There isn’t a much that I haven’t already seen as I watched four movies at the cinema last Saturday as well. 😎
Reports say Well Go USA are scheduling a October 2024 release in North America. Strategically speaking, this is stupid! Hype is going to die down by then.
It's a weird delay to be sure, but hopefully Wellgousa can help re-build up the hype stateside when the time goes

It’s an adaptation of the original novel instead of the comic books. Though the comic books adapts the novel too.
How can we read the manga in either Cantonese or English online ? I own a copy of the first volume in Cantonese gifted by a friend a few years ago. But I see there are 18 books in total which will take too much space. I’d like to read online instead preferably in traditional Chinese . Thanks for the review can’t wait to see on the big screens .

My pleasure! Let me know what you think of the manhua/manga after you’ve checked it out! I wasn’t familiar with it at all before I had already seen the film then went back to read it. Curious how it’ll be reading the comic before seeing the movie. The comic reminded me of Fist of the North Star / Hokuto No Ken a little bit.
Have you ever seen the IP Man movies with Donnie Yen? How do the fight scenes in Walled In compare to those would you say?
I have yes, I love the Ip Man films, very different fighting style when compared to this though. Ip Man was very controlled, showing the mastery of Yen's character at Wing Chun which is powerful, but pretty precise. Walled In is much more like a very well staged street brawl mixed with some fantasy elements drawn from it's Wu Xia and Manga ( Manhua) inspired roots. It's closer in tone to Flashpoint or SPL if we're looking purely at Donnie's movies for comparison. but i'd say a much more environment driven version than we saw in those films. I don't think they could have staged the action on display here as well if it was in a different setting. It's been very, very carefully designed to maximise it's impact in the location they've constructed for the film. it's fast, really brutal and extremely well choreographed.
@@TheFanaticalDragon Sounds good, can't wait to see it. I hope bring a special edition blu ray for it. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many special editions of recent Hong Kong movies. Raging Fire got a steelbook and that's pretty much it.
@@thesimanrises9232 I'm hoping so too! and you are quite right! sadly most of the labels who do focus on HK cinema tend to put out much older movies. Cine Asia are really the only label in the UK who are bringing out more recent HK films. There are a few great boutique labels based in HK but they only put out western movies. My hope is that the film does well enough for WCL in mainland china to pick it up and put out a deluxe edition. time will tell.

@McManaman17 Kenji frequently collaborates with Donnie Yen true, but he is also an extremely experienced action choreographer with his own style, and extensive experience shooting movies in Japan. there is as much of an influence from his Rurouni Kenshin work in Twilight of the warriors as there is his HK work with Donnie Yen.
