      My dream is to live in Jamaica after retirement, on the beach, dancing to Bob Marley and drinking my favorite cocktail. Is that a realistic dream or a dumb idea? Is the cost of living and housing comparable to the US? Also, I don't believe it's dangerous as many news outlets portray it to be. Am I correct?

      Well, it depends on your perspectives and values , motivation and I could go on but the concept is “the grass is always green on the other side”. So we will always be looking and searching for greener grass.
      There is a story of a man who bought a house because he was made to understand that diamonds could be found on the land. He spent years searching for the diamonds but came up with nothing. He eventually sold everything and moved to where more diamonds could be found and he felt he had a better chance of finding the diamonds. The new owner came and found diamonds. When he heard about this, he could not believe that the diamonds he spent years searching for were there all along. He ended up killing himself.
      That is just a brief synopsis of the story.

      I'm from Jamaica and I have been living in America since 13. I've had my fill. I'm ready to move back home because the northern Illinois weather is literally ripping my joints during the winter. I have Lupus. I have always been homesick for my island home. I visit pretty often however returning to America has always been very difficult and emotional. I like America, I'm grateful for The experience. I don't know what it is why I'm not able to let go of my island home. It hurts to hear other Jamaicans in Jamaica speak badly about Jamaica. It's never anything positive and as crazy as this may sound....The Most High God created living things. Jamaica is a living thing like other country as far as I'm concerned and if all we can do is tear down our country. Speak badly about it, thinking it's the worst place on earth and it's a fact that by far it isn't. If we do nothing to build our country and stand up for our country, be patriotic about our country, not even paying attention to Jamaica, instead we have our eyes on other countries and more loyal to those countries then what do you think Lady Jamaica will do? If we don't bless our country, our country will never bless us. I'm not retired, however, I'm ready to go home without fearing the return to another country as my day of departure draws near and crying off and on from the night before returning until I land in Chicago. It eats my heart out every time. It's like leaving a helpless old woman and fearing that something might happen.....which causes me to never see my Jamaica again. It's not the best country in the world but it is my home. Migration doesn't give children much of a choice....you go wherever your parents are going. I already had an idea of what America is like because prior to moving here , I would spend summer with my dad in Toronto. So I pretty much knew what I was in for. I love Jamaica...my Israel home....Eternal Yahweh Bless our land Jamaica 🇯🇲

      @@wickedgames8768 It does get comfortably cool in the winter time. In some of the higher elevations it gets chilly after sunset, even in the middle of summer. I was in Moneague. St. Ann, in mid July, sitting in my rental car waiting for some people I gave a ride up there. After the sun went down it got so chilly I had to roll up the windows to stay warm.
      Jamaica gets cooler than Florida sometimes too. I'm a Jamaican living in Florida and visited Jamaica one March. It was very hot in Florida and I though it would be the same in Jamaica. I packed only shorts and tank tops and off to Jamaica I went. It was so chilly one day I was in Ocho Rios, I started shivering and had no shirt. I don't know what was going on, maybe some kind of freak weather thing. Luckily for me it didn't last no more than a day or two.
      Another year I was there in April, I had clothes that time though. But this one evening I went to a restaurant and ordered a jerk pork meal. The waitress went outside to get the meat from a guy with a jerk pan on the out there. I walked out behind her to ask the guy what kind of ingredients he was using because a kind of sweet smelling aroma was coming from the pan. He showed me some leaves he was putting on the meat. I think it was pimento.
      The waitress took the meat into the kitchen to have the chef put the rest of the food on the plate. I stayed by the jerk man chit chatting. Shortly after I saw the waitress coming with my meal. I excused myself from the jerk man and proceeded to make my way back to the dining room. She gestured to an outdoor bench and table and said I could eat there if I wanted. I accepted an started to eat. By that time the jerk man wrapped things up and left. It was pretty cool and after a while I had to fly back inside because my bald head was freezing. It was not uncomfortably cold to my body, but it was something else on my head. This was in Rio Nuevo, St. Mary.

In general, making content about schools is not as easy, because if I want to film children at school - I need to get the permission from their parents too, and I'm certainly not going to use "spy cameras" or some nonsence like that, it's not ethical to say the least. Irina, it also depends on which country you are from. For instance, countries that are in the CARICOM zone (Antigua, Belize, Guyana, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, Jamaica, Suriname, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Barbados, St. Kitts and Nevis, etc.) don't need a visa to enter each other's countries. They can also work in each other's countries if they have the CARICOM skilled certificate, which is extremely easy to get (I got one of these when I graduated from UWI). It also means that I can work and live permanently, as a Jamaican, in any CARICOM country (though I have never used it as I currently live in the U.S.). There are about 24 CARICOM countries currently. Also, any CARICOM person who works in another CARICOM country can vote in the host country's election once s/he has lived in that country for at least 2 years. It's very similar to the European Union or Schengen Area.

    • @JAMAICAWITHIRIE
      @JAMAICAWITHIRIE  3 роки тому +3
