  • In this video Tom Wood and Sheri L. Williamson (author of the Peterson Field Guide to Hummingbirds of North America) take us on a tour of Ash Canyon Bird Sanctuary in Hereford, Arizona. This is a world famous birding destination where people see the Lucifer Hummingbird and other birds such as the Montezuma Quail, the Gray Hawk the Broad-billed Hummingbird and the Blue-throated Mountain Gem Hummingbird. Watch Tom hand feed a Roadrunner!

    I could honestly sit and watch/listen to a whole podcast of Carole and Sheri talking shop about hummingbirds. You all had me bust out laughing at the dialogue about hummingbird poop. "Now you're just bragging!" The fist bump at the beginning was a great way to start off. Thank you William for your filming and for the great editing work done here. I truly enjoyed this video, can't wait to see what the "continued" visit holds! Folks, if you don't have Sheri's "Hummingbirds of North America" field guide, highly recommend it!

    Beautiful birds … the road runners included. There is a UA-cam channel where they feed hummingbirds and also supply hanging trapeze like perches for the hummingbirds to rest on while waiting for a spot to eat or just to take a break. It’s very nice and the birds always seem so comfortable there. Ms. Williamson and Mr. Wood seem so knowledgeable about hummingbirds and the other wildlife in that area. It is so nice that they look at the wider picture and try to accommodate all the wildlife they can. Thank you for another informative and fun hummingbird vlog.

    The desert is a very difficult environment to survive in. That this place exists to give these birds a place to use is incredible. Indeed hard work involved and thank goodness there are people who are willing to volunteer. The drought is getting worse in the southwest and things will get harder.

    Ash Canyon is a real gem here in Cochise County. Little warm here in Hereford as of late. We sort of remember what rain feels like. Keeping the birds, rabbits, squirrels, and many other animals fed and watered on my property. Tough year for them. Seen quite a few baby Gamble Quail. Garden? Ask Mr. and Mrs. Ground Squirrel where it went to.

    It is March 2023 and to be honest, I haven't went thru the whole book, but I am anticipating on doing so, in the meantime, in my neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA we have doves of birds from swans, geese, ducks, crows flying above Vons Market on 3rd & Vermont. It's like a Steven King novel I don't know where they're coming from maybe McArthur Park. The crows seem to have a world of their own, they fight, dominate the neighborhood & their beautiful. Thank you God for a job well done. Lisa

    Well as a Texan, the Best spot to see the Lucifer is the Christmas Mountains Oasis in West Texas 😍😁, i have been to both places and there's no comparison hehe, i saw only 2-3 lucifers at Ash Canyon both times i have visited, vs 20-35 easy at the Chritmas Mountains Oasis, love both places though ,😁

    Hello again, so I shared with you a mysterious situation where a vast amount of birds are flying overhead at Vons & Ralphs market over on 3rd & Vermont in Los Angeles, CA They stem from seagulls, pelicans, and so on..... One in particular, seems to dive onto some of them and peak them of their heads. It may be dominance. Lisa

    It now seems that drought may become a regular feature in the West. What will become of the birds if droughts worsen in the coming years?

    • @HummingbirdSpot
      @HummingbirdSpot  3 роки тому +1

      Fortunately it is raining now. These birds have been around for millions and millions of years and have gone through long periods of drought before. We can only hope for the best for them.
