Yes, you're right. From someone who grew up with Grunge and the revolution, the Cranberries were one of our favorites too. As well as James, his Laid song is legendary. And Collective Soul, Creamy Valour, Ugly Kid Joe, etc.

I was in Warrington, my home town with my own kids the day before the bombs went off killing Johnathan Bell and Tim Parry. Tim took 5 days to die, hence ‘child is slowly taken’. My kids were the same age as Tim and Johnathan.
Here voice style is called ‘keening’ and is used at Irish funerals. Cranberries were touring England at the time and drove through Warrington shortly after. Dolores was incensed and driven to write this.
RIP Johnathan, Tim and the wonderful Dolores.

Not sure how to express both my condolences, and my abject disgust around the way campaigns were ran. I'm Irish (Dublin), grew up seeing nearly nightly news about attacks perpetrated by both sides. The Warrington bombings was inexcusable, same for Guilford etc
The counter would (obviously) be the Monaghan or Dublin bombings, or moreso the topic that U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday, references.
      :(

Having known this song, it's backstory, and the official video for a long time, I used to describe what you say 'so focused and so calm' as fury. However, at the time of this particular performance, the ceasefire was finally holding and her fury had begun to be replaced by hope. True hope for a peaceful holiday season in Ireland for the first time in 30 years.

Great song! it was written about an IRA bombing in Warrington,England that killed two schoolchildren….here’s what Delores the lead singer said about why she wrote the song. “There were a lot of bombs going off in London and I remember this one time a child was killed when a bomb was put in a rubbish bin -- that's why there's that line in the song, 'A child is slowly taken,'" O'Riordan told Songwriting Magazine. "We were on a tour bus and I was near the location where it happened, so it really struck me hard - I was quite young, but I remember being devastated about the innocent children being pulled into that kind of thing. So I suppose that's why I was saying, 'It's not me' - that even though I'm Irish it wasn't me, I didn't do it. Because being Irish, it was quite hard, especially in the UK when there was so much tension."
She told Vox magazine in 1994 that the song was written in part as a mechanism to grapple with her identity as an Irish citizen that did not support the actions of the IRA.
"The IRA are not me. I'm not the IRA. The Cranberries are not the IRA. My family are not. ... When it says in the song, 'It's not me, it's not my family,' that's what I'm saying. It's not Ireland".

Same story as much of the Middle Eastern countries. Its not them. Its not the people in villages just surviving. Its not the folks in the cities. Its the extremists just like in Ireland with the IRA.

Thank you for taking on this tragic theme, at this difficult time in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
Dolores and the Cranberries tell a truth that is just never accepted in the travails of humanity - conflict is in your head.
I know this song of course, but obviously I am more sensitized to it lately.
So when it played as a background track via the Xbox at home, it really stuck in my head. I cannot place it now, was it a movie, was it a Netflix series, was it a game (Cyberpunk, Assassins Creed - the common ones)?
Bard comes up with these, but I haven't watched them - does anyone have ideas?
The Cranberries released the song "Zombie" in September 1994. It was the lead single from their second studio album, No Need to Argue.
The song has been used recently in
    Army of the Dead (2021)
    Mission: Impossible (1996)
    Thunder Force (2021)
    The Next Karate Kid (1994)

Ireland has delivered some of the finest bands and artists…U2, Enya, Boomtown Rats, The Corrs and…The Cranberries. Sadly the premature death of Delores O’Riordan has seemingly resulted in the end of the band…how could you possibly replace Delores? Zombie is one of their best tracks…It’s a complete package of a song..driving instruments and a grungy, gloomy and furious vocal condemning the actions of the IRA..it’s powerful stuff. Dreams and linger are two other standout tracks. Great reaction Sabina..clearly the song was delivering the internet wow factor.

It has been claimed that this song was more effective than anything politicians ever did to end "the troubles" in Northern Ireland, as it distanced the ordinary decent and peaceful Irish population from the atrocities committed by the IRA.
It is only fairly recently that litter bins have been replaced in British public spaces, after their removal during the time when the IRA were using them to hide nail bombs and the like.
This was written after one such attack in Warrington,, where the bomb was placed near a shopping mall and a threat to the mall was telephoned in - causing the public to be evacuated directly into the area of the bomb. Even some units of the IRA were so sickened that they disowned the group that carried it out, and clearly, both Great Britain and Ireland were outraged - so this was Dolores O'Riordan's response to that. Well worth going through the lyrics.
And I believe it - it was a MASSIVE hit in both Ireland and England and has had regular radio airplay ever since. In that way, it kept up the pressure on all sides to end the senseless fighting.
I went over to Ulster on a visit not very long after this to finish qualifying on road circuit marshalling, ending with the NW200 (the fastest motorcycle road race in the world), before going on to the Isle of Man to marshal for the TT and Manx GP there (on the mountain circuit - 37.73 miles of the most challenging roads imaginable with races lasting up to 6 laps), and the fortification of police stations and regular patrols of armed police and army units was still present, and security was a constant concern in everyday life. This song, more than any other single act, changed all that. Because even though politicians had held talks for years, this put the pressure on and kept it there. It lasted and was repeated over and over, unlike any government statement or ministerial announcement. It just would not go away, and undermined any claim the terrorists had to be fighting "for Ireland".
RIP Dolores💔 - you left us too soon, but your influence was international and huge, and there can be no better tribute or legacy.

I can't imagine the shock of having gotten Dolores to come to London to record a remake of Zombie with some new lyrical work by her, only to find out that the night before the studio session, Dolores mixed too much alcohol, and a warm bath and drowned. I mean, having such an amazing artist agree to sing with your band, and pass the night before...there had to be some feelings of guilt. Thoughts of 'if she hadn't come down to sing with us, she wouldn't have been alone in a hotel room, but back home with family, and might still be alive...' HAD to be a nightmare for Bad Wolves.
Class act of them to not only record the cover, but dedicate ALL the proceeds from the song to Dolores' family. While I understand the feelings of the Cranberries members that felt it was too soon, at the same time it really gave the song attention that led to a LOT more money being earned for Dolores' family than might have otherwise been raised...
She was really a loss to music, and to all her fans.

Look at the audiences when REAL music is performed by REAL musicians. After 2000 becoming very rare.

Such a fantastic song, and it has what must be one of the greatest music videos of all time, so I would totally check that out sometime. Over a billion views last I saw. Wish I could remember when I first heard it ... a while back, lets say ;) RIP Delores, wish you were (still) here.

Fun fact : put aside the first lead singer who only stayed for a few monthes when the band wasn't know outside their home town of Limerick, The Cranberries kept the same line-up for their entire existence : Noel and Mike Hogan (Guitar and Bass), Fergal lawler (Drums), Dolorès O' Riordan (Lead vocals ; RIP)

Please give the cover of “Zombie” by “Bad Wolves” a watch, Dolores was supposed to appear on the track but sadly passed away the day of recording. They went ahead and did the cover, donating proceeds to her children.

Such a loss and such a sad / angry song. This song makes me want to scream and cry and kick a pillow all at once. RIP Delores. You did well. Sabine, you need to do another Band-Maid. Something more current and written by them. Please?

This is a great live version, however I would suggest checking out the original music video which is very powerful. Right before her death Dolores was going to provide vocals on a metal cover of this song by the band Bad Wolves, they made the song and donated all proceeds to her children and the video of the song is a tribute to Dolores but you need to have seen the orginal video to get it.

Zombie is considered a protest song against the Northern Ireland conflict. DoloresO'Riordan RIP ( leadsinger) wrote the lyrics to the
song during the band's 1993 tour of England in memory of two children (Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry) who were killed in an IRA bombing
in Warrington on March 20, 1993.
