I was lucky enough to be at this concert. My Special Forces Detachment was assigned by the State Department as backstage security for all the bands. We had 6 guys at every entry point with one team roaming backstage at all times. It was total controlled chaos. The Russian military provided 100% of the outside security. They were really friendly and welcoming, and I think every person there was loving their new found freedom.
But well hated by the internet due to his "greed" on music downloading on Napster. Take it or leave it I love Metallica and have bought every album up till black yes even Garage Days etc... I grew on these guys in highschool in the late 80's
@@MrGratefulNC I'd forgotten all about Napster. These reactors on UA-cam go through some serious and ridiculous crap for reacting to all different musicians or groups; even ancient songs. I thought Lars was being an asshole as well about Napster but especially the subscribers. If I recall he wanted to literally "hunt down" all of us who downloaded Metallica from Napster. @@MrGratefulNC I wouldn't call it greed, Napster was literally stealing and giving out for free, Lars was the only one man enough to stand up against it.
Every time I see that first shot of the crowd, so large they literally fade into the misty horizon, with that helicopter scarily close to the concertgoers (cooling them with the ‘copter blades forcing air down into the overheated audience) I get chills. That cinematic introduction with the music from a Sergio Leone Clint Eastwood western movie. There were reputed to be 1.6M people in attendance but the security folks collecting tickets gave up counting at some point so no one really knows. Everyone there just wanted to celebrate, to inhale the divine elixir of freedom, to joyously ROCK OUT! 🇺🇸🇷🇺🇩🇰🎸 FYI Metallica is currently touring (I am writing this in August 2024) with eight performances just in this month! 33 years after this legendary performance in Moscow. Testosterone indeed! 👊🏻
I was at the show in Kansas City, November 1991. Nowhere near this size, but something like 20,000 people. Energy was absolutely incredible. Unforgettable.
I heard the guards were trying to calm the crowd down, screaming at them from the helicopters. Because there were giant violent mosh pits, and it was the FIRST festival with international rock stars in the Soviet Union. People were going insane! And the military didn't know what to do with them. I was 8 years old back then, and of course couldn't attend.
I saw Metallica Live in 1996 or 1997 in Utrecht the Netherlands. In 2014, at Pinkpop, Landgraaf. Thunderstorms and lots of rain. And last weekend, at Pinkpop 2022. I own almost everything you can get from Metallica! Greetings from Spakenburg, The Netherlands.
That's how you do it that's why there biggest band in world only band to play all over the world this did kick ass there been kicking ass for 40 years still do
You really do some of the best reaction videos out there. You don't interrupt the song while writing out what you have to say for each part, you have sharp commentary, and perhaps most of all, you seem to really love the music. I watch loads of reaction videos in that I've been stuck at home for over a year now and what is really great is being able to connect with someone's emotions by just watching them enjoy something you love so much. And in doing so I've become hyper-aware of those reviewers who are faking their reactions for views and someone who really enjoys them. So if you're faking it, you're doing a fine job and keep it up. Having someone else to listen along with you and experience the music for the first time as opposed to listening to them by yourself is kind of like Christmas with or without kids around. There's like a shared empathy in it.
Metallica was still growing as a band . At this point they were just starting to get huge with the release of the Black Album . Imagine if they were the headliner that day !
I used to have this DVD years ago and it's really fun to watch the guards throughout the concert. By midway through the concert they are jumping around and screaming as much as the crowd.
Well waking up to see this notification made my day so much better. I really enjoy your reactions and how genuine they are. You're not just another person sitting in front of a camera reacting to music videos (not that there's anything wrong with that!). As an extremely amateur musician, I really enjoy hearing how others see, hear, and feel music, and even though there's no interaction in watching a reaction really, I still feel as if i'm not watching the video alone. Thank you for taking the time to do these reactions, as well as your thoughts, feelings, and insights into the music, musicians, and groups! I saw them live in Atlanta, GA in the US back in the early 2000s. Not nearly as big of a crowd, but absolutely epic show. Not to mention Linkin Park opened for them. Looking forward to more in the future.
This was the 1st western rock concert allowed in Russia. I’m from center of USA but I happened the catch this tour in Berlin several weeks later. I’ve seen every tour since 85 because Metallica always brings the energy and performance. Would recommend Fade to Black live. That song helped me survive my teenage years and shows a more intricate side. Their original bass player was classically trained and loved Bach. He was main influence on sound & harmonies they still use
This performance is legendary, primarily due to the sheer size of the crowd. This song is from the band's infamous "Black Album," which is the album that really put them over the top commercially. It is also a somewhat controversial album for the band, as it represented the beginning of a change in their overstyle. You can check out the song "Creeping Death" from the same performance to get a good comparison in their "classic" style and the style they adopted beginning with the Black album. God bless!!
the "Load" tour in '96/97 was Super. especially when part of the stage collapsed. Some people thought it was real!! But it was part of the performance!
I have seen Metallica live 18 times…..last time June 15th on Copenhell 🔥🔥. They have been around for 41 years. What they have achieved have to qualify them as one of the 4-5 best bands ever. To this date they sell out any arena no matter the size worldwide faster than you can sell drinking water in a desert. You have at least 70 Metallica-bangers ahead of you leaving you in awe 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥. Du kan roligt gå i gang 🇩🇰🔥🤘. Next; “Creeping Death” from same concert….you will be speechless. Kirk’s solo is even better 🔥🔥🔥
There's a bunch of old farts like me all the way up to teens today. 18 times? That's gotta be a record IMHO. I was at 3 ZZ TOP Concerts but Metallica only once. I saw a recent picture of James and he looked like hell warmed over. Hope he's ok. Anyway; your comments were well said sir...well said.
I've got some catching up to do. I've seen them 11 times on two continents. Show # 11 was back in February. That show happened to be my sons 1st concert ever.
Great Reaction! This was right after the russian government started allowing concerts and such, which is why there is so many people there and why the are going crazy! Lars Ulrich, the drummer, is Danish. Lars was a tennis player when he was young had hopes to turn pro when he got older, but the music bug bit him and he went to the U.S. (Los Angeles), met James and they started Metallica together.
I really like your reactions 👍 now try Metallica live in France they play in the Colosseum but try to hear the song "ONE" you're gonna love that song...
That performance was amazing! Haven't seen this before, but I know the song for a long time. You can not compare live and studio, but the original studio recording gives me more goosebumps, the guitar solo sounds much better and James voice goes deeper under my skin. And that sound while watching the official video.... Whoa!
"Pinkpop" is a 3 day festival. With several podium places, and 50000 visitors per day. This year Metallica was the closing band of day 1. Metallica Live at Pinkpop '22
