I think if Derpy ever visited this town she would say something like Pinkie said. "I know Muffins. And those Muffins? They're just not right!". I think Starlight was a great villain. She reflects on real world villains rather than comic book ones. In the real world we don't have mustache twirling evil doctors with super powers. We have normal looking people with a dangerous idea who can brainwash an entire population to believe in it. It's kind of a refreshing change of pace.
Also, Spike would be their SOS signal in case Fluttershy failed or something else happened; if he didn't hear from Twilight and the others for a significant period of time, he'd try to send them messages first. When that fails, or if Twilight manages to send him a signal, he'd immediately send Celestia a message out of concern. Celestia would then most likely go to rescue her fellow princess, and then it'd be her versus Starlight. That would be an interesting exchange, actually...
When I first saw this my opinion was "Yeah, this is a cult." And as a side note that dance number actually reminds me of my days in marching band! You had to hit a certain mark at a certain time to form a picture. Whom ever was behind you had to follow your lead otherwise the picture would be ruined so you had to not only remember your mark on the football field but to hit it as well. I remember having my named yelled out only to be told I did a good job following the people in front of me (who were a whole foot off) and all but jumping back into place before the song ended rather then be off the mark. (Scared the crap out of me XD) (I also know this video is old but I couldn't help but be reminded of it and comment about my old story)
It's exactly because the episodes not only buck conventions, but does it in a way that improves the story, that this might just be my favourite two-parter.
***** he is a youtuber. german youtubers can teleport, cut vegetables within a second and create explosions by snapping, and american (i guess his american) youtubers seem to be immortal :) or he is part pheonix.
I'd honestly live to see the support ponies from the town again. They seemed like a good mix of personalities that could play well off of one another for extended periods.
Hey, Silver Quill. Did you notice that there is a group of Fillies (or possibily colts) that are seen when the Mane Six enter the town, acting like the Equalist ponies, even though they lack Cutie Marks? Did you further notice that these Fillies are never seen again?
Skye Silverwing Imagine how messed up those kids are gonna grow up.They spent all their lives being raised on the ideas that Marks are bad. They never had a say in it, they were never given a different point of view. The only thing they know is Cutie Marks are evil. So what must they feel now that every pony they admired is now embracing the thing they were taught to hate? It's like those kids from 1984 who were rewarded for getting their parents arrested on even the slightest hint of disobedience. Holy crap that's dark.
***** What if...Those fillies were endocrinated enough that they followed Starlight in her downfall? Not only we would have a possible reoccuring villain, but a counter to the CMCs that I'd like to see interact with them...fillies who want cuties marks and fillies who don't. Could even make so that a « major plot » episode would be centered on the CMC, which would be pretty awesome.
Too bad there's not many Hypogriffs in equestria for you to blend in with silver quill. And now to mark down fugitive of the royal law off the list. I can tell this won't look good on a resume. This was an awesome premier and can't wait to see what they do with Starlight Glimmer later down the road.
Friend of Sonbra, countless accounts of kidnapping, impersonating officials, disrespecting sun butt, destroying public properties, few counts of breaking and entering. Now prison break, his resume isn't good for a villain, his resume is the dream of all villains ever
@6:30 FINALLY THANK YOU! I have been screaming about the sirens since I saw this episode! and NOONE was bringing them up! YOU ARE THE MAN (or pony.... or hippogryph.... or pigeon)
"I'm Silver Quill and I'm looking forward to reviewing more of season 5." ...and we look forward to seeing you around you hilarious hippogriff. Great work as always.
What's the difference between Silver Quill and Michael Bay? One is better at explosions than the other. *cough cough silver quill. Great work as always.
BlueRav3 More like one makes explosions, and the other explodes. Psst, Silver, you're supposed to give the exploding message to the Chief before it goes off.
+MLP-Silver-Quill This was the first video i ever watched of you and i instantly fell in love with your humour. You always put a smile on my face Silver. #Spaceballs
I think Starlight Glimmer's motive is to be the only one with talents. Just from the way that she speaks, it seems like she has a deep resentment of the talents of others. Maybe she was jealous of abilities she was unable to have. Maybe her lack of certain abilities made her feel inferior. Or maybe she was even made to feel bad about abilities others had that she didn't, whether real or perceived. There's no doubt to me that her ploy is born out of resentment. Also, I hope this town comes back in a later episode, even as a backdrop.
So good to see a new episode review on a new episode from you again ^_^ I forgot how much stuff I always agreed with you on XD *shot* Looking forward to the rest of season 5 =)
Of all the different pony analysts and reviewers, I always look forward to your content the most because your delivery is usually so imaginative and fun. This one does not disappoint. Here's to Season 5 and more of your awesome work, Silver Quill!
we both always knew that you would end up on a Equestria most wanted, just for different reasons. And I've said it before, but it bears repeating I think not naming the town was a stroke of genius! Think about it, naming the town would just give it a sense of individuality and why bother the town when it is a pure representation of a ideal? But having said that, if it must be called something I vote for caeteris paribus him. You know, I've said this so many times I've virtually copied and pasted it. so something new! Derpy is best guest star pony!
Discord Draconequus that and you died her main pink, stole her tail, eaten all of her cake and let's not forget what you did in the fountain After you drink all of that hard chocolate milk (They did try to tell you that it wasn't called hard because you have to chew it)
You know for once spike being there would have done a lot of harm. He can't be controled. How I know this.... hehehe.... let's say I tried out my new dream spell.... it didn't work.
Oh my gosh. Cutie marks are super powers. Like, they give ponies strength, personality and abilities. They define a pony's path in life. No wonder the CMC wants their cutie marks. Imagine being stuck in a world of superheroes without any powers of your own.
This may well be my favorite season opener yet. It introduces so many cool things like the map, the female equivalent of Starswirl, and the fact that unicorns' magic are slightly different depending on where they hail from. Rad!
You have to be one of the funniest, if not the funniest, MLP FIM reviewers I've watched. You inspire me to join youtube. (But I don't know how I'll record) so I have to thank you. Watching your videos always brightens my day, and your videos also helped me get out of a depression type faze. Thank you again Silver Quill, and keep being awesome!
Chari Mahariel I watched this with a friend and he was so damn scared it was gonna be some sort of propaganda against communism, but halfway through i called it out to be more of a cult than anything for the exact same reasons xD Yay, i called it! : D
My first thought was cult too. Didn't even see the communism slant until afterward and people were talking about it. Can see why they'd think that but still see cult primarily.
It's not communism, it's fricken fascism. They believe their way is true friendship, they get punish for questioning the leader, and supreme control by a single acting leader that no one dare to question. Further more, they want to unforced their ideal onto others. This is fricken Germany right before WWII.
Chari Mahariel In his live vlog with Dr. Wolf, Silver describes it as a cult that uses Communist ideals and methods to back up the cult's philosophy. The Cult of the Equal Marks!
SILVER QUIIIIIL!!!!! *GLOMPS YOU FROM ACROSS ROOM* OH, how I have missed you and your dry wit combined with intellectual observations!!!!! This is one of the many reasons I couldn't wait for season 5 to start!!!! Welcome back, Bro!....Ny!
As for my thoughts on the episode, I thought it was really good. The "perfect, creepy utopia" plotline has always been a personal favorite of mine, and I think they did it really well here. It's usually very disturbing, but mostly in a good way. The comedy was pretty good: Pinkie having to eat all the muffins was really funny, as well as the part with Fluttershy trying to leave Starlight's house to go to the cutie mark vault. It's also a real nice change of pace to have the Mane 6 NOT be the ones to ultimately save the day. (Technically anyway.) Also, I *love* Pinkie's characterization in this episode. Her going all Metal Gear Solid in the beginning, and her constant looks of suspicion in the first half, are fucking hilarious. And considering Pinkie is all about smiles and making people happy, it's perfectly in character for her to be suspicious of how unsettling-ly cheerful everyone is. And of course, being a huge Fluttershy fan, seeing her get to go all solo in the 2nd half of this episode was really cool. :) The song was... all right, but it did at least have a purpose in terms of the story, so I can't harp on it too much. The moral it taught was a really good one as well. Because, honestly, if friends never had disagreements, their friendships would be incredibly boring. I was also really surprised to see that Scott Sonneborn helped write this episode, though that might explain some of the humor. (Since Trade Ya had some funny moments, and while I hate Somepony to Watch Over Me, the song fakeout in that episode was really funny.) Overall, a great start to the season. I'd say, for now anyway, it's tied with Return of Harmony for my favorite season premiere. I'm liking where this season is going so far. The Mane 6 have basically become the Pony, Friendship equivalent of the Knights of the Round Table, and I find that pretty awesome. I have high hopes for the rest of the episodes here. :)
I'm glad someone else called the town a cult too! Seriously, I was flat out stunned they managed to get so much of that stuff into the show! I've watched more than my fair share of true crime shows and the number of times I found myself comparing the actions of the town's ponies to cults left me a little... shocked. I'm not complaining but it was unexpected.
2:20 Spike has a foam CLAW! Not a finger, a claw. 5:01 Theoretically, that could be because of the concept of season 4 in general. Season 4 was about the Mane 6 being tested and realizing that they do represent the elements of harmony even after they had to give the elements back to the tree of harmony. So Pinkie Pie not being so comical in season 4 could be symbolic. Granted, this is just my own fan theory and the writers of the show most likely didn't have this in mind. But it wouldn't be the first time the writers would take a fan theory and turn it canon *cough*the name Derpy Hooves*cough*the term Alicorn*cough*. Sorry for that cough. It is allergy season after all (if it's revealed in the show that somepony is allergic to something, I'm gonna kill somepony). 9:25 I'd make a joke about this. But Silver Quill beat me to it. 10:15 Metal Gear Equestria! ...Actually, that really does sound awesome. (seriously, fuel for fanfic writers and artists) P.S. I'm surprised you didn't point out the "balloonoculars". P.P.S. I want everypony to know that I am the one who came up with the word "balloonoculars".
I love how you caught Party Favor's act of bravery. I think that this whole episode is a great new turn for the series. I wonder if they plan to rotate the usefulness of the main six through each map quest. Pun not intended. Pinkie and Flutter shy starred in this episode which helped tell the story in a decent amount of time and helped build their character. I look forward to good things this season.
But even with communism there is a ruling power, otherwise it would never work. True equality is impossible - actually this reminds me of a dystopia I read, "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut. The main idea is that everyone is completely equal. People with above average talents must wear handicaps whether mental or physical. Even when everyone was restricted to the same abilities there was still someone in power who didn't have to wear the handicaps and was above the rest. While true communism seems possible in theory, it is impossible in action. The same thing happened here, one ruling person and everyone else below her must follow her command while being equal to the others in most ways.
braingle987 The ruling power in true communism is the people itself, not single characters that has taken the power, or getting voted to have it, but the people as a collective. It do have several failings though, as communism has either gotten implemented in the wrong way or turned into something else when it has been tried.
I am so sad that I missed you at BABSCon AND I missed the premier. I was helping staff the con which was rewarding in its own right but meeting you would have been a feather in my cap, so to speak.
I was kind of annoyed that Twilight never brought up the obvious point... The point being, Ponies are already Equal, with Their Cutie marks. They are deterministically placed in society by fate, leaving nothing to coincidence. If you by fate are all assured that people have places in society, and that no one will truly suffer for it, then you are already at an equal playing ground...
andreas55k I thought of this idea after the fact, so it didn't disturb my view of the episode.I however had already arrived to the conclusion that Ponyville (if not Equestria) was already a semi-utopian socialist society(cooperation, equal chances but different outcomes, the idea that one should contribute to the society by what he's good at), so from there, knowing myself, any other way to rule magic ponies was doomed to seem way worse.
andreas55k except it kinda isn't when you think about it. Mules are often used as insult. There is an establish aristocracy that doesn't seem to contribute much to society. Slavery is apparently legal. And of course there are the immortal, extremely powerful alicorn princesses.
Most people probably already have guessed this, but my theory is that silver quill is at the village to hide out from Celestia and the royal guard to avoid being imprisoned without his trusty spoon.
汩SkylanderDragon You had suggested reading up on Hitler to learn what "a communism" was. I was just saying that wouldn't really help, unless you wanted to read about places where Communists were persecuted.
"YOUR ONLY MISTAKE, CELESTIA, WAS LEAVING ME MY SPOON!" And people wonder why I love Silver Quill. Starlight as a reoccurring villain? *cough season finale* I haven't seen the finale yet-- I slept in too long and missed it *cries* and so I came to Silver to cheer me up again :)
Is that Kelly Sheridan, the voice of Barbie, I hear playing the villan? That's kinda dark considering how many positive characters she's associated with.
I thought it was interesting that Starlight and Sassy were both new roles for Kelly Sheridan in Season 5. She was also Melody in My Little Pony Tales. November 18, 2017, 7:42pm
If you want to see Kelly Sheridan in another villain role go watch LoliRock. She did villain so well in that that I didn't even realize she voiced Praxina until Prax became good for an episode
... First off I totally not not audibly squee when I saw this pop up.. nope not at all. But anyway, YES!! New Silver Quill! The pony season is now officially in full swing. Yes, it was very nice they gave Spike a perfectly legit reason not to come along, and yeah it does make sense, fits perfectly, and.... yeah I'll just stop there before I get into a little rant about a certain other "Analyst".... On Twi's 'autonomy' yeah, totally agree as well. Twi is perfectly happy where she is, has no reason to go searching for adventure. But will go and do whatever she can to help ponies if she learns about there beings those that need her help. As well as simply being part of her character that she is more comfortable following somepony else. That she is more then ready to identify herself by who she follows. While also being perfectly able to take charge of a situation if she needs to. It's a really interesting part of her character that I really do love. "Not Communism" THANK YOU! Got annoying seeing people call it that while showing they really don't get what the word means. And yeah, this is a Cult. Even beyond those points, the entire behavior, how they tried to break the Mane 6 down. Poor food, love bombing potential new members, yeah this was a scarily accurate depiction of a cult. "I said levity, not an invitation for more pain!" But Silver, you know that your pain is the greatest form of levity imaginable to us. Also agree on how great being able to have a smaller scale conflict, that was still tense, exciting, and had a lot of emotional punch. Yeah I love the large, save the world stuff too. But it is nice to have a change, and see they can dial it back and still make such an amazing story. And really dont get why people have an issue with that. Do they want to the show to end up like DBZ? constantly trying to one up the last threat to ridiculous extremes? Damnit Silver... has to be something we can disagree on and get into an endless flame war over.. but yeah The four helping to save the mane 6, while still having the Mane 6 actions mater and be a key part as well. So SO good. Just, this premier was simply amazing all around. As was all the humor here. What a great way to start a day. Just, utter hilarity. Great points and yeah.... worth the wait. So jealous of all you that got to see it in a group.....
7Seraphem7 to the certain youtuber, I will say he is just shooting down people who refuse other opinions regardless if they are positive or negative. However he ended up putting his own audience do too the wording.
AnimeWolfgamer Umm, no. See that might be possible, still idiotic in how he did it, but possible. If it wasn't for him then in the comments, blowing of anyone who took issue with that little rant as simply being 'Butthurt'
7Seraphem7 Ya true. But I do see what he is saying but honestly I think he should of cut it base on the wording. His video was decent till that part trying to call out people who refuse other perspectives but end up treating his own people who help him in that group as well. He pretty much accendently hit everybody in so pretty much it he is hated by both sides at the moment.
AnimeWolfgamer See, the issue is, that was not, in the slightest, what that rant came off as. It came off as him bitching about how anyone who does not share his opinion that the episode was shit because of some minor, personal issue of his. Is just some mindless sheep aimlessly praising anything they are told to praise. and how he alone is the one voice willing to call the show the lump of shit it is. Oh... ohhhhh and just though of a nice parallel to his things there. All opinions should be treated equal... but his opinion is the right one. but he's kind of got a history of treating anyone who disagrees with him or takes issue with something he says/does like crap. it was his resonse to people who didn't like that grating, annyoing, make you want to stab out your eardrums voice he used for his EQG review that pretty much was the last straw and make stop giving a fuck about him. Beyond mocking him when he's being idiotic.
7Seraphem7 I will say it is idiotic of him to try to attemp that since I rather he avoid comedy like that. I as well as a few others know what he is mostly saying and I think its gonna stay that way since people on both sides have really gotten angry about it. But however do to his past history, I wouldn't be surprise by that.
6:40 Fun fact, the MLP CCG (Collectible Card Game) actually refers to the unnamed town as "Cult of Personality." Just felt like throwing that out there.
So here's what I got from this review: Turns out not all two parters follow Silver Quill's formula The Mlp staff decided to spice up season 5 with a good old fashioned cult Muffins? Brainwashing is magic! What a twist! Macintosh The true lesson of the episode is never follow weirdos into caves. The end :)
...Okay so. I know this is really late. B U T- I just wanted to put this here. Am I the only one who thought The Staff Of Equality was a better name than The Staff Of Sameness?-
You know, I appreciate my favorite video on youtube since 3 years ago when silverquill first released it even more now that I can understand the yugioh the abridged series reference.
2:59 You forgot "Go to high school..twice!", then played some clips of Equestria Girls and Rainbow Rocks, but great job, Silver! Thanks for letting me get a picture with you!
Hey Silver, I just want to say you've come a long way from when you first started, I remember when I felt a bit bored because you were stuck in the same...shall we say tone dimension? Now you've really branched out, and have gotten so much more entertaining. Also your humor has gotten even better, I thought it was already good but I think you've gotten even better. Keep it up SQ, at this rate, you might have a future in being a review for more then just MLP.
12:45 Anyone else believe that that 1 Pale Unicorn with the Reddish Curly Hair & the 3 Leaves for her Cutie Mark bares a strong resemblance to the G1 Pony known as Gusty: the Unicorn who's magic allowed her to conjure up wind?
I come back to this because I just watched the "Seconds from Disaster" episode that dealt with the Jonestown cult. It brought back memories of this review and the marks of a cult you posted, and suddenly, this episode took on a whole new twist and a very dark one at that! God only knows what would have happened if the princesses did intervene! To what extent would Starlight have gone!
It's strange seeing Starlight being evil after two seasons of her trying to reform.
Fluttershy: "Even tweets don't make sense anymore!"
Silver Quill: "Did they ever?"
OMG!! Even though I don't have Twitter myself I understand that.😁😂

Beautiful.

When I first saw this my opinion was "Yeah, this is a cult."
And as a side note that dance number actually reminds me of my days in marching band! (Scared the crap out of me XD)
(I also know this video is old but I couldn't help but be reminded of it and comment about my old story)
It's exactly because the episodes not only buck conventions, but does it in a way that improves the story, that this might just be my favourite two-parter.
11:23 Starlight really has a talent for doing that...
Remember her interrupting Thorax's repetition of another Twilight Speech in Season 6 finale? xD
this came out over a year before the season 6 finale
Jack Ferring yeeaah? I know. But people still watch old reviews and comment according to current events.
Yes, but does Starlight is kind of *clears throat* acting like Big Brother from a story that Orwell made called 1984.
Jonathan Hill Exactly! :D I knew I wasn't the only one who noticed!!
BlueTeller Right
Don't follow weirdos into caves.
Yes...
You kinda right
Bokurano
So is Silver Quill a god? He can survive the impossible and tie up Celestia. I'm growing weary of this bird...horse...thing.
Hippogriff xD
***** He's the anti-christ, remember? =o
***** No, I remembered! He's the Anti-Celestia! Except his other form is much more intimidating. And really hot.
***** he is a youtuber. german youtubers can teleport, cut vegetables within a second and create explosions by snapping, and american (i guess his american) youtubers seem to be immortal :)
or he is part pheonix.
***** He's only part phoenix on his mother's side, twice removed.
Omg..... also why are they together, is there an hidddn school?
Crystalitar they are being lead by an elder pony. Perhaps a teacher, parent or nanny?
Skye Silverwing could be, still it;'sa mystery that needs more attention!
Are you kidding? His resume is looking pretty good. For a bad guy
Friend of Sonbra, countless accounts of kidnapping, impersonating officials, disrespecting sun butt, destroying public properties, few counts of breaking and entering. Now prison break, his resume isn't good for a villain, his resume is the dream of all villains ever
ming chen You forgot one count of assisted torture. :P (victim ToonKritic, see Rainbow Falls analysis.)
I wish there wasn't Hippogriffs in canon now.
They don't look like Silver.
All the hypogriffs are unda da sea
1:23 Silver Quill's cutie mark is the DeviantArt logo.
Bolt the Super-Pony I just posted that on his DA!
Bolt the Super-Pony Is he saying DA is a pseudo-Communist cult?
Thats not devianart logo its from a game I think
Roberta Paula given that later he brings up deviant art's logo It would seem that is indeed what is plastered on Silver's flank in the title card.
Bolt the Super-Pony I thought it was a does-not-equal sign.
@6:30 FINALLY THANK YOU!
I have been screaming about the sirens since I saw this episode! and NOONE was bringing them up!
YOU ARE THE MAN (or pony.... or hippogryph.... or pigeon)
"I'm Silver Quill and I'm looking forward to reviewing more of season 5."
...and we look forward to seeing you around you hilarious hippogriff. Great work as always.
Silver's rocking the DeviantArt cutie mark.
*Gasps, choke, cough, laughs at Darth Helmet Pony* Dang it Silver! Don't through random funny jokes out like! I was taking a drink.
yes i love this joke
L. Wolf One does not simply drink while watching a After the Fact, at least not without the risk for losing a keyboard.
L. Wolf thing was, i was actually in the mood for Spaceballs when i saw this
L. Wolf Dark Helmet Pony is best pony.
...okay, no he's not. But the important thing is, we _have_ a Dark Helmet Pony.
Agreed. Derpy is best pony
Idk why but i love hearing all those screaming from the villains/former villians
"I'm definitely not a villain."
LittleKuriboh. You sir, have won over another person...
"I think she broke my everything." sounds like a song lyric...
Somehow I knew Best Pony would turn up when muffins were mentioned. But hopefully Zecora has a remedy for horse colic.
BlueRav3 More like one actually cares for his audience while the other doesn't, just saying.
Dark92Enigma
And you are correct. That's why SQ is better.
Agree. :)
One has a horse's butt, the other actually is.
silver quill thank u sooo much for making videos idk where i would be with out u
I'm glad that my friend recommended this channel to me. I'm already a fan of Mr. Silver-Quill!
+Terry Candlestick My thanks to your friend. Glad you enjoy the video! :)
MLP-Silver-Quill You're very welcome. I can see you worked hard on it. It is good that so many appreciate your hard work. :)
+MLP-Silver-Quill notice me (plz)
+MLP-Silver-Quill This was the first video i ever watched of you and i instantly fell in love with your humour. You always put a smile on my face Silver. #Spaceballs
Very good breakdown of the episode, it gives me some more things to think about before judging it
I think Starlight Glimmer's motive is to be the only one with talents.
I Love Your Reviews Silver-Quill
So good to see a new episode review on a new episode from you again ^_^ I forgot how much stuff I always agreed with you on XD *shot*
Looking forward to the rest of season 5 =)
Of all the different pony analysts and reviewers, I always look forward to your content the most because your delivery is usually so imaginative and fun. This one does not disappoint. Here's to Season 5 and more of your awesome work, Silver Quill!
we both always knew that you would end up on a Equestria most wanted, just for different reasons.
And I've said it before, but it bears repeating
I think not naming the town was a stroke of genius! Think about it, naming the town would just give it a sense of individuality and why bother the town when it is a pure representation of a ideal? But having said that, if it must be called something I vote for caeteris paribus
him. You know, I've said this so many times I've virtually copied and pasted it. so something new! Derpy is best guest star pony!
Gungelion its true he Mad Celestia VERY Ticked. I have only made her mad this much when I Turned Equestria into a Paradise of "Fun"
Discord Draconequus that and you died her main pink, stole her tail, eaten all of her cake
and let's not forget what you did in the fountain After you drink all of that hard chocolate milk (They did try to tell you that it wasn't called hard because you have to chew it)
não vai virar uma estátua de pedra
You know for once spike being there would have done a lot of harm. He can't be controled. How I know this.... hehehe.... let's say I tried out my new dream spell.... it didn't work.
Darn!!! I meant to edit out the rest of that comment!!!!
Through out the course of the video you explained every reason people watch the show. The fandom, the action, the themes and morals... Great job!
Great After the Fact video, keep up with the amazing work Silver-Quill.
Oh my gosh. Cutie marks are super powers. Like, they give ponies strength, personality and abilities. They define a pony's path in life. No wonder the CMC wants their cutie marks. Imagine being stuck in a world of superheroes without any powers of your own.
I love the GPS joke you made there.
This may well be my favorite season opener yet. It introduces so many cool things like the map, the female equivalent of Starswirl, and the fact that unicorns' magic are slightly different depending on where they hail from. Rad!
9:26 Fluttershy: "Even Tweets don't make sense anymore!"
Silver Quill: ..."Did they ever??"
You have to be one of the funniest, if not the funniest, MLP FIM reviewers I've watched. You inspire me to join youtube. (But I don't know how I'll record) so I have to thank you. Watching your videos always brightens my day, and your videos also helped me get out of a depression type faze. Thank you again Silver Quill, and keep being awesome!
when Sugar Belle says: "we have... muffins" I always think of Derpy
I have no idea why 11:20 puts a smile on my face. Nor why I enthusiastically have it on repeat every so often. Yet I do!
Thank you, THANK YOU for pointing out that it is not communism :D
Chari Mahariel I watched this with a friend and he was so damn scared it was gonna be some sort of propaganda against communism, but halfway through i called it out to be more of a cult than anything for the exact same reasons xD Yay, i called it! : D
Well i only saw it as a cult
(Technically anyway.)
Also, I *love* Pinkie's characterization in this episode. :)
The song was... all right, but it did at least have a purpose in terms of the story, so I can't harp on it too much. The moral it taught was a really good one as well. Because, honestly, if friends never had disagreements, their friendships would be incredibly boring. I was also really surprised to see that Scott Sonneborn helped write this episode, though that might explain some of the humor. (Since Trade Ya had some funny moments, and while I hate Somepony to Watch Over Me, the song fakeout in that episode was really funny.)
Overall, a great start to the season.
(seriously, fuel for fanfic writers and artists)
P.S. I'm surprised you didn't point out the "balloonoculars".
P.P.S. I want everypony to know that I am the one who came up with the word "balloonoculars".
0:29..... What great pic of golden and Key😄 That's going in their brain of memories!
Now you're a fugitive. As a member of royalty, I will be required to bring you in. Don't make me do this to you, Silver Quill!
Oh go away
"an equestrian GPS. GPS: you are here. the story needs you to go here" i lost it there XD
i thought your daaw meter went kablue
espo1313 What part of me hasn't gone kaboom by now? ;)
The part that is buried in a soup can
not shore all episodes something explode and that one of the top five reasons i like your channal
do you think eli will lose her daaw meter next five buck she does
MLP-Silver-Quill don't tempt fate.
Thank goodness for the hiatus ending! I always enjoy these and I can't wait for more of your two cents on eps.
Love the music intros
Silver-Quill: ...or if she'll come around. Time will hopefully tell.
Me: ...time...
very great points, the thing that still bugs me is the town doesnt have a name!
Don't know if it's canon, but it's listed on the wiki as "Our Town"
I am so sad that I missed you at BABSCon AND I missed the premier. I was helping staff the con which was rewarding in its own right but meeting you would have been a feather in my cap, so to speak.
I was kind of annoyed that Twilight never brought up the obvious point...
The point being, Ponies are already Equal, with Their Cutie marks. They are deterministically placed in society by fate, leaving nothing to coincidence. If you by fate are all assured that people have places in society, and that no one will truly suffer for it, then you are already at an equal playing ground...
andreas55k It requires thinking outside the box (or inside the chimney ^_^ ) to understand that.
RubberyCat I guess... :P
I think its just a peeve of mine because I study philosophy at Uni...
When you have a hammer, every issue becomes a nail XD
andreas55k I thought of this idea after the fact, so it didn't disturb my view of the episode.I however had already arrived to the conclusion that Ponyville (if not Equestria) was already a semi-utopian socialist society(cooperation, equal chances but different outcomes, the idea that one should contribute to the society by what he's good at), so from there, knowing myself, any other way to rule magic ponies was doomed to seem way worse.
Akrane Show Well, I am at least glad I wasn't the only one who was thinking of this :)
andreas55k except it kinda isn't when you think about it. Mules are often used as insult. There is an establish aristocracy that doesn't seem to contribute much to society. Slavery is apparently legal. And of course there are the immortal, extremely powerful alicorn princesses.
The way Starlight disappeared, I can't help but to think that we'll be seeing more of her later.
Sweet x3
Most people probably already have guessed this, but my theory is that silver quill is at the village to hide out from Celestia and the royal guard to avoid being imprisoned without his trusty spoon.
Finally, at least someone who didn't called this sect 'a communism'.
Nice review though!
***** Read up on history of Hitler and Germany before and during WWII.
I think I get.
***** Very interest thank you for that lesson.
turkishvan2 Sorry I do not understand what you mean.
汩SkylanderDragon
You had suggested reading up on Hitler to learn what "a communism" was.
That's kinda dark considering how many positive characters she's associated with.
yeah and she voiced Sassy Saddles in MLP
She also voiced Sango from Inuyasha
I thought it was interesting that Starlight and Sassy were both new roles for Kelly Sheridan in Season 5. She was also Melody in My Little Pony Tales. November 18, 2017, 7:42pm
I was actually watching a playthrough of an old Barbie computer game earlier today and thought, "Wait, that's freaking Starlight!"
If you want to see Kelly Sheridan in another villain role go watch LoliRock. She did villain so well in that that I didn't even realize she voiced Praxina until Prax became good for an episode
Your reviews are always so profound. Well done, good sir.
Here's a thought that was brought up on the r/mlp. How did Double Diamond get the mane 6's cutie marks, without Starlight's magic?
...I can't comment.
You've literally taken all the words out of my mouth.
So here's what I got from this review:
Turns out not all two parters follow Silver Quill's formula
The Mlp staff decided to spice up season 5 with a good old fashioned cult
Muffins?
Brainwashing is magic!
What a twist!
Macintosh
The true lesson of the episode is never follow weirdos into caves.
The end :)
Thank you for mentioning the "evil overlord trope list" or whatever you call it. I learn so much about different terms and references from you.
Double Diamond looks like a pony version of Jack Frost. Change my mind
Great Review on the episode, keep it up and awesome job with a spaceballs character, Dark Helmet
yea... maybe Celestia isnt going to be the princess of exposition...
but she will be completly useless now so she will have no rol at all.
We love you, Silver Quill!!!!!
...Okay so. I know this is really late. B U T- I just wanted to put this here. Am I the only one who thought The Staff Of Equality was a better name than The Staff Of Sameness?-
"Staff of Sameness" = "SOS"
Besides, Staff of Sameness sounds way sillier, making Twilight's doubt about the artifact more legit
You know, I appreciate my favorite video on youtube since 3 years ago when silverquill first released it even more now that I can understand the yugioh the abridged series reference.
Starlight is Marik and all the other ponies are her army of steves
Thank. You. I've been needing a really well done, well thought out and edited review of this episode since it premiered. Moar pls! X3
I'm surprised silver hasn't gotten killed 😑😑😑😑
2:59 You forgot "Go to high school..twice!", then played some clips of Equestria Girls and Rainbow Rocks, but great job, Silver! Thanks for letting me get a picture with you!
Silver just had to start the video with making me jelly!!
Kudos for the Derpy reference! ^^
I took it to be about the US school system rather than communism
Opening background music - Traveling from Hikaru Utada. GENIUS SELECTION!
Not gonna lie, Starlight Glimmer shutting Twilight up made me question my favourite pony xD Sorry Rarity, your longtime run has a challenger!
JojoFan4Evr Sure Starlight Glimmer caused an impact in the fandom, even Seth is totally questioning his loyalty to Trixie. wow
***** The feels are going to be overwhelming.
Yes, The season 5 premier was definitelyone of, if not the, best 2 parter I've seen.
Dr. Einhorn CURSE INSENSITIVE APPLE SPACEBAR!!!
Am I the only one who ships Party Favor x Pinkie Pie?
No! November 18, 2017, 7:42pm
If Cheese Sandwich hadn't come, Party Favor might've been Pinkie's soulmate.
Honestly I was on the Party Favor X Sugar Belle train. But ya'll know what happened to that train of mine...
Wow, everybody knows it's not communism that Starlight portrays.
It's socialism.
Awesome always! Cant wait till ypu do the next episode, castle sweet castle, i personally like it a lot!
To what extent would Starlight have gone!
and we look forward to your reviews of the rest of season 5, great job Sliver
I was watching this in the break room of my job and when he said scary faces the alarm protecting our vault went off! Scared the crap out of me!
"I hope Starlight it's the first consistent villain" Hasbro you done it again
Insightful as always, Silver Quill.
This episode surprised me at every turn. I thought Starlight was gonna absorb the Mane 6's cutie marks or something.
Love the Mel Brooks ❤😂Spaceballs film reference lol 😊😂😅😅!
i cant wait till you do episode nine!!!
They told me not to watch reviews of shows that I don't watch...
BUT I DIDN'T LISTEN!
