I think when I don’t know how to animate so I made my character on roblox and when I get help from maybe lighting bliss I will learn how to animate still so yeah and I do have autism that is level 1 and that’s all and Finn copied jasper shop and I got 3 split personalities of Jett Shard and Jester so I might sound different and that’s all
Except for the implications that "Equality" means stripping people of all their special talents and brainwashing them into believing in the same thing, if it were used in the context of this episode. "Sameness" is more to the point of what is portrayed in the episode: everyone's Cutie Marks are the same; they all behave the same way, and so on. It dodges an unwanted and broken moral by calling it "sameness".
Honestly I think Starlight Glimmer is creepiest villain the MLP series (minus the movies, I didn't watch them). I mean, the others villains wanted to rule the world, cause chaos or some thing like that. It's bad news, sure, but we're sort or used to this. While the "whole stealing your cutie mark and identity" as well as BRAINWASHING you into a puppet is actually way more insidious and terrifying. Plus, She's got got probably one of the most dreaded magic out in Equestria and she's still on the loose. That is quite a dangerous wild card there.
Here's what I took away from this episode. So remember kids, having unique and diverse ways of thinking are what makes the human race so special, and you should never give up your own beliefs for the sake of conforming to someone else's ideal. ... Unless you're the antagonist, in which case the whole world hates you.
No they did not choose Fluttershy as the key to their plan because of character development. They chose her because she was the only one who legitimately liked these townsfolk including Starlight, so they'd naturally be quick to warm up to whatever she did with them. They could trust her the easiest. ... or maybe the idea seems ridiculous due to some hatred toward her in general?
***** It reminds me of those movies where everything seems perfect in a little town and everyone is all smiles until they find out its something very evil and sinister. creepy horror movies. (shudders) Wasn't Children of the Corn like that? I never saw it though, but it sounds right.
Actually tactically, it had to be Fluttershy, not because she is the best choice but because she was the more sympathic to the group before they showed their ugly selves. If any of the Main 6 'converted' before Fluttershy, then it just spread suspicion over the pony that goes before her. Of course that is not to say it was a good plan and question why only send one pony? Why couldn't they send out both Fluttershy and Rarity? The others wouldn't be convincing but those two could pull it off and two spies are better then one.

“Double Diamond” is a ski term for ski slopes that are the highest difficulty. These tend to include SUPER steep hills, cliff sides, moguls (bumps made to test your turning) and skiing through the woods (where grooming is minimal to none).
HACKED 111111 No, its not an opinion because an opinion would be what I think it is, a statement is what it is. This is a cult, not communism because of the reasons stated in the video. So stop hiding behind the "oh its just an opinions" nonsense, and use your bloody brain.
They should have called it the "Staff of Equality." sounds more epic that way. Unless they went with "Sameness" as an intentional idea to subtlety foreshadow it was a fake...or it was all a coincidence and I'm reading too much into this, it happens.
I honestly thought that you were drinking some kind of liquid soap at the beginning. It's like, "I know you wanted to keep things clean here, but this is slightly over-doing it." @0:47"Ok, I'm beating a dead horse." HA! GET IT! BECAUSE IT'S A SHOW ABOUT PONIES! HA-HAAAAAAAA! HA-HA! NekoVira Actually the adults in the cult willingly took cyandie capsules the children were poisoned with cyanide laced Kool-Aid. Such a funny story how children were murdered by a cult.
I was waiting for someone to make a castle playset joke. And yea I have to admit that Hasbro does a better job with making some shows with great stories centered around their merchandize. After watching this episode, I still can't look at the smile song the same way. How is it that no one has done a video of the smile song with clips from here in it? Anyone else thinking that the voice of Party Favor, Samuel Vincent, should have played Double Diamond instead. Double Diamond = Double D........ During the party scene did anyone else hear a wilhelm scream?
Because that song is about Pinkie enjoying making others smile & seeing smiles of joy. Here we got an example of her seeing past fake/forced smiles not origining from joy. Nothing in this episode is contradicting that song. By making a joke that it does you're just taking words in it out of context =_='

Okay, I'm gonna defend the Fluttershy decision because it actually makes sense. See, Rarity actually would have a harder time pulling off this act because of her drama tendencies. She'd have a difficult time keeping her opinions hidden due to her desire for attention, stardom, and praise. Also, the act that Fluttershy has to pull off is being easily manipulated and pressured into following these cultish ways, so it actually makes sense for her to be selected to pull off the act.
The bit with Spike talking about him and Big Mac doing hoofball stuff is WAY funnier now that we've had Dungeons and Discord and you realize this is probably just Spike trying to front about what he and Big Mac are actually gonna do while they're gone. XD Or maybe even trying to get Fluttershy to leave so all of the Mane 6 will be gone so they can play. XD
Ah, so social justice has finally gotten so bad that MLP is speaking out about it. Be it in an abstract manner in the episode's moral, but still, MLP is warning the children.
9:24 - 10:14 I think you've forgotten, they just had their special talents and overall personalities removed. So any strategic advantage that may come from their personalities would be rendered inert, or, in the very least severely dulled. And seeing as how Fluttershy was the only one that wanted to be open-minded to their culture, it makes sense for her to be chosen.
THANK YOU! someone says it's a cult in these reviews/reactions! thank hippy hopping Angels! ever since i saw this two parter, it gave me that feeling! all the ponies smiling and agreeing and they're cutie marks. just bizarre. even weirder: i heard about them but never cared about them for the longest time, but the Westboro baptist church sounded abit like them. it was creepy seeing the WBC's followers smile and have this whole "staying equal" thing: no personality between them, no difference in what they like, obeying what they're taught. it's just creepy that these episodes depict what a cult is but get away with it
crcoghill It's always fun when a family show pulls something like this. Ever see Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers? They had a cult episode there, too. It was a really good character piece for a 90's show, really highlighting Gadget. This one took it a different way, but both work really well with the material.
Jerry Peet also pointed it out that it was a cult in his "The Cutie Map" in 4 Minutes video. Though I guess Jerry is more comedy than video so yeah I guess FieryJoker is the first reviewer to point it out.
Pikasayan I see now. Starlight Glimmer was the reason of Sunset's misguidance in the first Equestria Girls movie. Starlight manipulated Sunset to do her evil deeds of conquering Equestria and taught her friendship only to realize that she was lying about it all along.
3:23 Me: Look, they even have the same color pallet. I guess Hasbro was too lazy to make up an original color palette for Starlight Glimmer. 3:25 Me: Sick burn to Aria Blaze. 3:40 Me: 5:29? That’s an academy record? 3:44 Me: I feel ya too Applejack, I also smell a large amount of bullshit. 4:03 Me: Who’s on first reference? 4:18 Me: Is this a symbol for math class? Cause ya gotta pretend you’re paying attention or you enjoy it. 10:11 Me: I agree that Rarity knows how to put on an act. 11:06 Me: She has a cutiemark 11:09 Me: And let’s see how this turns out. 11:39 Me: That face is so scary. I am not joking. 12:20 Me: She blew up that bridge. 12:26 Me: Where’d those come from? 12:30 Me: Doesn’t have the same ring to it. 12:33 Me: Agreed 13:37 Me: Agreed 13:57 Me: Agreed
***** Maybe. We still haven't had the obligatory It's A Wonderful Life style episode, after all. A world where the Mane 6 didn't stop Discord could certainly fit the bill.
Goddamm it, I almost choked at your train breaks camera gag. And personally, I think this is one of the best two-parters, definetly up there with the first apperance of Discord.
since when do you not like making dark jokes? also, I pick dusk shine! but my original thought before this season villain was announced was something along the lines of Dawn-light glimmer with the possibly of going by the alias Morningstar nemesis I think not naming the town was a stroke of genius! Think about it, naming the town would just give it a sense of individuality and why bother the town when it is a pure representation of a ideal? But having said that, I say we call the town caeteris paribus, a Latin phrase meaning "with other things the same" or "other things being equal or held constant".
Gungelion I don't like this show, but I know a fun game when I see one. Call it "Equalia." And yes, I did get that from an episode of The Simpsons. As for dark jokes, that "beat wife" quip qualifies as one.
Meh, I don't really get it. And I know what drinking the kool aid means. It typically refers to someone accepting an idea or ideology. But I can't tell what the joke was supposed to mean, or even be.
*watches the intro again* Oh... Drinking the kool aid, as in joining in. Josh is doing a review of the season 5 premier, mainly because everyone else is doing it.
K4RN4GE911 actually, despite his dark tone and appareance (BLOOD!), zero two doens't look to be that interesting or difficult a boss fight. I'd probably pick Magalor or Queen Sectonia
The thing about Starlight Glimmer's little town is that somehow, she was able to convince a large number of ponies to give up their Cutie Marks. Through words. Because if the little rebellion at the end of episode is an indication, she didn't brain wash most of these ponies, like she tried to do with The Mane Clicke (I know I misspelt it; it's an obscure word for me; back off; please). And another thing. I hear our little Sugerbell ask about why they can disagree about something and still be friends, and I am reminded of some of the comments Jerry Peet received on that Mommydagio video of his. Really gets you thinking, doesn't it?
So, Starlight, what’s the name of your town Ponies: Our Town Yeah but, what’s the name Ponies: Our Town I get it, what’s the actual name Ponies: Our Town So... who’s on first?
Twilight could've used a shield against the "staff of sameness", but its been shown that Twilight can teleport only one person other than herself. Josh doesn't seem to understand how magic can work.
Sunmi So? Wouldn't be hard to assume she could do more, given alicornification. Besides, she could have just ran away and gotten help from the princesses.
1:56 actually, since we now know about Spike and Big Mac's Guy's Nights and how they always play Ogres and Oblietes, Spike might've actually been using that trope to purposely get Fluttershy to go with the rest. Pretty clever of him, when you think about it
Well, this episode shows the 301+ day hiatus was worth it, as not only has the writing really polished itself, but the animation is very nice, and the characters seem more like they're alive than ever before with all the new facial expressions.
Actually if you look closely in Rainbow Rocks you can see Rarity's chair was glowing but Pinkie was in Apple Jack's chair so no glowing. Fluttershy was best choice because she was the only one who was complimenting the town so it makes sense. Glad to see a video from you it was fun.
Nice job coming out with such an entertaining review video so quickly! I don't think you've ever put out a full review of a season premiere within this short of time.
This was my first time watching a video from this channel and I was not expecting to be greeted by Vexen's laughter. I literally had to pause the video for me to stop laughing.
Great review! I've been looking forward to your take on the promo! I definitely related to some of the points you made regarding the new characters and the overall theme of the episode (twilight foil, party favor, Starlight's "philosophy", etc).
Best review so far. Due to the fact that you added different references from most hehe. When Double Diamond found his skis I was just waiting for you to say, "Convenient!" and when you said it, I replied, "THERE IT IS!" lol.
I'm honestly surprised no one has tried to theorize how the ponies of the Town ended up there. They all came of their (relatively) free will, it must be assumed...but what CAUSED them to seek out such a place? How many of them had personal traumas that they felt removing their marks would actually improve their lot in life? The crack about Sugar Belle and 'beaten wife' syndrome made me think of this. She didn't understand simple arguments not being friendship-shattering events, even as an adult, so what social trauma led her to that point? Did she have friends turn on her after minor arguments? Was it something she witnessed in her parents that she applied to how she saw the world? While we don't see much of her social interaction in the end of the episode, she seems to be moderately well adjusted there, not socially-inept, so was it more of a mindset thing? These questions will keep me wondering for a while. What skeletons are in all their closets, that would make them seek out a place where they would surrender talent and individuality for 'perfect' equality.
+Chip Biscuit that's true. we had pretty decent evidence that she was good at convincing others just by chatting. Some could have been itinerant or travellers passing through the region, like Double Diamond looking for a good mountain. maybe others were drawn by fliers she had sent out to other towns? A vague pamphlet promoting happiness for the discontent, found in a coffee shop could have been enough. I remember seeing something like that in The Secret World mmo: beautiful pamphlets promising peace and friendship, luring people to a certain place.
When I watched the episode with my brother, and he asked why the map hadn't appeared earlier, I said that at the end of "Twilight's Kingdom" the castle had still been going through its initial boot-up sequence and hadn't been ready to produce the map yet. He didn't question this, so apparently that's my headcanon now. This is the first time they've all sat on their thrones at the same time since the castle got settled enough to take authentication and produce a map. He did question it when I said that the map doesn't teleport them to where they're needed because that would drain the batteries too quickly, but I really meant that one. I just didn't mean literal batteries.
7:15 I was thinking more of something from "The Shinning", I don't know I kinda just had that feeling when the mane 6 were brought into a dark cellar where the explanation for bringing them down there was "So no one can see what's about to happen". Now all we need is someone named Johnny to bash through the door with an axe.
If I remember correctly Fluttershy has stared down a dragon, befriended the God of chaos, and seemed to snap a bears neck. I'm pretty sure she's got this
I second that, partner!
Think he was against because he doesn’t like best pony. Cough cough Fluttershy Cough cough

10:18 I volunteer as tribute. That’s actually a good joke there
10:01 They needed someone who could easily fit in, Fluttershy is a doormat and Rarity is sassy.
7:47 silly rainbow dash, you're not awesome enough to change species to a pegaraffe!
3:23
Me: Look, they even have the same color pallet. I guess Hasbro was too lazy to make up an original color palette for Starlight Glimmer.
3:25
Me: Sick burn to Aria Blaze.
3:40
Me: 5:29? That’s an academy record?
3:44
Me: I feel ya too Applejack, I also smell a large amount of bullshit.
4:03
Me: Who’s on first reference?
4:18
Me: Is this a symbol for math class? Cause ya gotta pretend you’re paying attention or you enjoy it.
10:11
Me: I agree that Rarity knows how to put on an act.
11:06
Me: She has a cutiemark
11:09
Me: And let’s see how this turns out.
11:39
Me: That face is so scary. I am not joking.
12:20
Me: She blew up that bridge.
12:26
Me: Where’d those come from?
12:30
Me: Doesn’t have the same ring to it.
12:33
Me: Agreed
13:37
Me: Agreed
13:57
Me: Agreed
9:13 twilight with the smug face!
Is it just me, or does Starlight Glimmer remind me of Nightshroud from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX?
Hold up are you into MLP?
Adam Moulder I've seen a couple episodes. I just watch the reviews for Josh's commentary.
That explains it. I wonder are you two friends? Or is it you just watching the guys commentary for just the sake of hearing opinions?
+The Quarter Guy who was nightshroud?
+The Quarter Guy who was nightshroud?
"DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!"that frikkin killed me...
I wonder if we will also have an episode tackling Anarchy on the opposite spectrum. Could be interesting.
***** Maybe. We still haven't had the obligatory It's A Wonderful Life style episode, after all. A world where the Mane 6 didn't stop Discord could certainly fit the bill.
The ponies saying "Welcome!" freaks me out every single time.
I'm pretty sure the crazy '=' unicorn's voice actor is the same one who voiced Barbi 0.0
That voice actor's name is Starlight Glimmer
that's a weird name for a voice actor...
I know I don't have that kind of name
*Facepalm* I meant to say the voice actor's character's name is Starlight Glimmer
Psycho Sinked I was being sarcastic.
Oh
11:13 Hey, Starlight. What's soaking wet and clueless?
Did anyone hear a Wilhelm scream at the town party after the climax?
Goddamm it, I almost choked at your train breaks camera gag.
And personally, I think this is one of the best two-parters, definetly up there with the first apperance of Discord.
since when do you not like making dark jokes?
also, I pick dusk shine! but my original thought before this season villain was announced was something along the lines of Dawn-light glimmer with the possibly of going by the alias Morningstar nemesis
I think not naming the town was a stroke of genius!
Gungelion He doesn't like making dark jokes if they're sex jokes.
Clearly the obvious next step for evil foils is Midnight parallax shift
I'll admit, it'd be interesting to see Twilight's R63 as a villain.
Ryu Taylor the Ferret Stalliongrad. Because equality and all those USSR references.
"You forgot Sora, Donald, and Goofy."
*dies of laughter*
Dear Princess Celestia,
Today I learned that Big Mac and Spike are both fans of foo-
*bonk*
Ow! Alright, alright, hoofball!
PokeSEGA64 but is hoofball equestrian hoofball or Soccer?
NekoVira
...
God dammit!
NekoVira Well according to American lifestyle and culture, which indeed MLP is made by Americans, is most likely the American Football, or Grigidon.
Manny Hammer
grigidon?
NekoVira Gridiron, my bad. Anyways is an alternate name of American Football because the field resembles a gridiron, which was used for grilling
7:53 nice incredibles reference
i like FI in skyward sowrd i dont care what any one says
ladyaceina Me too. And it's fun imagining Ghirahim being the same way for Demise.
She's a far cry better than Navi, that's for sure.
And I kinda liked her speech patterns....
i like navi to she was not near as anoying as fans make her out to be
the only companion ive ver disliked was tatl in MM
THANK YOU!
No one was putting her down
I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE fit a little TOO well into Fluttershy's mouth...
Removing their marks won't bring back your goshdarn honey!!!!
Oh my Celestia. The necklaces of Happiness. X"D I think I died of laughter.
0:18
Can someone please explain this "Kool-Aid" joke? I don't get it.
TheAnimationAnalyst
He's making a product placement joke.
***** If it's really that simple, then I feel like an idiot.
Never mind. I get it now.
I love how you drank the kool-aid at the beginning.
But your jokes always improve my day.
Say josh can you do a top 10 best Kirby final boss video? pretty please with a cherry on top ;3
***** Zero Two wins.
3:50-4:14 is very funny.
3:24 Why did he roast my number one Dazzling?
So, Starlight, what’s the name of your town
Ponies: Our Town
Yeah but, what’s the name
Ponies: Our Town
I get it, what’s the actual name
Ponies: Our Town
So... who’s on first?
I don’t know
i took a shot for every social revolution villain joke next thing i knew i woke up on the floor covered in chocolate ice cream and expired milk
First.
[puts on shades]
Fourty-first.
2:42 Chris : permission to freak out
Me : permission granted
I bet there gonna be ONE espiode where the mane 6 become males
ARB Pride XD ikr
True true,
The feminists would shoot everybody up then
This was a good episode.
My reaction when seen the village for the first time:
...I am going to level this place
This was your best episode I've ever seen, Josh. Keep up the good work.
Just for the "you forgot Sora Donald and Goofy"
You get my like!
***** But that would mean abandoning her friends and leaving them at the mercy of a cult, that is assuming she can only teleport with only one friend
ghillman1000
My thoughts exactly. Twilight wouldn't do that.
ghillman1000 Alright then. She could have teleported away, hid, and busted her friends out.
True but that would not have prevented starlight from taking the rest of the mane six's cutie marks
1:56 actually, since we now know about Spike and Big Mac's Guy's Nights and how they always play Ogres and Oblietes, Spike might've actually been using that trope to purposely get Fluttershy to go with the rest.
Pretty clever of him, when you think about it
7:53, Should I be worried?
Dusk Shine is Twilights male counterpart
Well, this episode shows the 301+ day hiatus was worth it, as not only has the writing really polished itself, but the animation is very nice, and the characters seem more like they're alive than ever before with all the new facial expressions.
3:17
Ha! I see what you did there.
Major props on incorporating the "Who's on First?" skit as well as Andrew Ryan's Rapture speech from "Bioshock".
4:11
Considering the marxism themes...
(Russian accent) “Our town” is fitting
This was my first time watching a video from this channel and I was not expecting to be greeted by Vexen's laughter.
I literally had to pause the video for me to stop laughing.
I may have missed it but I just now noticed, HAPPY 100K SUBSCRIBERS JOSH!
3:04 I wish that was true. An MLP Kingdom Hearts crossover would be amazing! Even though it will probably never happen.
This is the best change of pace opener I have seen and it honestly beats the others in my opinion.
3:01
Why do I imagine Sora, Donald and Goffy in MLP forms?
I lost it when you said 'Who's on first.' One of your better set ups. Looking forward to more.
Keep up the good work. Deus tecum.
This was one your best reviews yet Josh
I wonder how Goldenfox would feel.
