FN Reflex FTF Issue Fixed

  • Following up after my previous videos about the failure to feed FTF issues I had with my my FN Reflex. Yes I said "had!"
I suspected the extractor pin was causing the issue, but after watching this video from The X-Ring, I decided to round off my extractor pin and see if it helps.
    • FN Reflex. FAIL but fixed
As you can see, it not only helped, it solved the problem.
160+ rounds at the range and not a single FTF issue.
I also show the difference between my iron sights...yes the gun shoots low left, just like many have already reported... and my new Holosun 407k red dot. I have been to the range again since shooting this video and I have to say I love the red dot. You may notice me struggling to focus on the front sight in the first part of this video. "Old eyes" and trifocals are not front sight friendly. Since my distance vision is 20/20, the red dot allows me to focus on the target and the red dot. When I do, this Reflex is a tack driver.
After a lot of time, aggravation and $$$ on ammo and the red dot, I am beginning to love my Reflex for the advantages it has always had. The trigger is great, the grips are comfortable with a natural point of aim, and with the internal hammer, the slide is easy to operate. I just can't believe a company like FN would let so many of these out of QC with so many OBVIOUS issues, and continue to deny the issues exist. Very disappointing FN!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! you saved me. i went out to walmart, got 2000grit sandpaper, 300grit, and 600 grit, and went to town. no disassembly needed, just used my fingers and some gun cleaners afterwards to clean up the burs and shavings.
i didn't need to round off my extractor all that much either. I ended up just slightly rounding it, and polished the heck out of the posterior side of the extractor and now its running 100%. THANK YOU

Thank you for your efforts. FN released the Reflex knowing full well that there were extractor problems. I experienced at least 100 FTFs within the first 237 rounds. And it shoots low-left! I shipped it back to FN so I don't have the pistol back yet. They did write to say they replaced the extractor BUT there is nothing wrong with the sites. How can this be? How many shooters have the same problem? How can a pistol shoot low-left but when you put a Red Dot on it, it shoots straight? Can somebody explain this because FN sure isn't going to! FN should start a recall of these pistols and compensate the owners!

.....And why do we have to work on our brand new guns? We wouldn't stand for this with our new car...or washing machine. They've taught us that this is acceptable - the new standard to firearm buying.

The only failure to feed issue I’ve had with my Reflex is if manually rack the gun without a purpose (which I actually had to try to make a failure to feed happen). If I grab the slide and rack it with some meaning, I have no issue whatsoever. As far as firing the weapon, no issues at all, I’ve had no failure to feed issue.

Is it a fairly involved process to remove the extractor and reinstall? Or was it possible without removing?

I’m about to change my sights to sig X-rays #8’s to hopefully fix the low left issue. I even mounted the holosun 407k to help the problem but it seems I’m having to max out “up and right” to get zero. Not happy with this gun at all 😢

I'm thinking of just touching the corner of the extractor with a dremel. My Reflex does FTF if I let the slide forward slowly but not if I let it go at full speed.

    • @frandunigan5835
      @frandunigan5835  3 місяці тому +3

Most guns will FTF if you ride the slide, so no concern there. With the internal hammer, the Reflex is easier to rack than most striker fired models of the same size (like my P365 & GX4). That is the result of a lighter spring in the Reflex, so again I am also not surprised it requires the full force of the slide & spring to load properly. I used a Dremel tool too, be sure to not leave a rough surface. After using the abrasive wheel to round off the corner, I also used a polishing tip, then a cotton wheel with buffing compound to ensure a smooth mirror like finish.

2 to 3 seconds before each shot is insane to me for an indoor range. the fact that it is their policy on an OUTDOOR range is laughable. That aside nice vid. I love my reflex. Its been 100 percent for me so far but only Winchester white box fmj no Hollows through it yet.

Thanks for the feedback. FMJ have never been an issue for me either, nor have Federal HST. It was just the shorter overall length Hornady rounds. Again, I don't think it's a Hornady issue, but more related to the Reflex feed angle and extractor.

If I could go back in time I would probably have gotten the 365 but I didn't.
The gun shop isn't taking it back and FN blames it on user error so I'm going to stick it out and do all the mods I can.
I enjoy working on firearms and modifying them that said this extractor mod definitely works.
out of the box I couldn't even rack one round without failure to feed and extract. I did this mod and the pistol fires 100% but it is extremely low and left of course. that's my next fix a #8 sig sight on the rear drifted to the right. seems like all the micros had issues at first and they had better support from their manufacturers not so much with Fn.
Update.. Okay after the shell extractor mod and polish and a truglo #8 sig on the rear center not drifted and this gun has been amazing very addicting fun to shoot. it has been flawless for about 500 rounds so far The low left was part me The gun does shoot a little different but that was just my support hand needed to be a lot more firm but the low shots was definitely the sight now it will shoot 3 inch groups every time around 15 yards awesome firearm I'm happy I stuck with it

@@eddiehoskins7482 you sound like you work for FN... just blame the user? Granted not every Reflex owner has experienced the same issues. However, I' be been an NRA instructor for 12 years, with >40 years of shooting experience and won top shot at my 2nd Front Sight event. There many better shooters than I, but not training definitely is not the issue here. This is also not my first micro 9, it is my 3rd, and the only one I had these issues with. I am not a gunsmith and don't claimed to be. I am just only one of many people with a defective Reflex that FN claims has no issues, looking for a solution to make the darn thing function reliably. Many seem to share the opinion this is a good solution.

I did belong to a private range where we did have an opportunity to demonstrate our abilities and get qualified to do holster draw and class III. At this (and many other public ranges) I do understand it is difficult for the RSO and other shooters to determine if the person next to me is fast and competent or a dangerous, new shooter who is trying to imitate Hollywood and putting everyone around them at risk.

My first and last FN after having the same problem and FN telling me and apparently a lot more people that it’s us and not the gun! I was told the FN tolerances are so tight that I just need a couple hundred more rounds to break it in and that it should practically be dripping with oil. I’m selling mine.
