  • Venus Flytrap plant eating a bug and digesting it during a period of 17 days. Trap reset period isn't included.
    ■ Tracks:
    Rick James - Super Freak
    Sigur Rós - Starálfur
    ■ FAQ:
Q: You should have bestowed freedom upon the second bug. He was a fighter!
A: I know! It did not cross my mind at the time =(
Q: What are the tiny white bugs crawling around?
A: Most commenters said they are Springtails (wiki: goo.gl/Xi549G) and that they appear when you overwater. One comment said they were Thrips (wiki: goo.gl/abo4p2)
Q: What are the red bugs I fed them?
A: They're called firebugs (not fireflies) (wiki: goo.gl/zGDvOV)

    • @Tatusiek_1

Lloyd Gamers It doesn’t really squish the insect, i’d assume it suffocates and the digestive juices liquify everything except the exoskeleton. It absorbs all the nutrients and opens up days later with an empty husk.

Yep. Also I believe that the trap will only stay closed if the feelers inside continue to be disturbed before sealing, so if a bug stayed dead still, it would let them go.

    • @reidmock2165

I like this video. I raised Fly-Traps for a few years, and tried to feed them Hamburger, on one occasion... that didn't work. I learned that the plants needed to be frozen, once a year. They get their Nitrogen from the insects, rather than from rain, like most plants do. Each plant produces seven stems, each stem will produce five traps, and each trap opens three times, each summer, then they need to be wrapped in cloth, and put in the freezer, for a few weeks, and they'll sprout again. What killed my plants, was the children that thought it was "Cool" to see the traps close. They touched one 'Hair' of each petal, and the traps would 'snap' shut. That starved my plants, and they died. It was a very fun hobby, and I sold dozens of plants to a local shop that sold them to their shoppers. I live in Florida where it never gets cold enough to grow these pets, so I had to use the 'fridge, but I got the Sphagnum Moss from North Carolina, and my first plant from a shop in Tennessee. I really enjoyed this hobby.

Thanks a lot Anita. It was some micromanaging yes. The plant was a present for my mom and when she came over visiting I had to move it and hide it so she doesn't get present-spoiled. I had to move it without having that show up in the time lapse 😃

Put the bugs in a ziplock in the freezer for 30-120 seconds, and it will stun them, then you don't have to worry about them escaping before the trap activates. Then activate the trap. Once they wake up, they will already be trapped. Also, you can poke with toothpicks.
