Lloyd Gamers It doesn’t really squish the insect, i’d assume it suffocates and the digestive juices liquify everything except the exoskeleton. It absorbs all the nutrients and opens up days later with an empty husk.
Yep. Also I believe that the trap will only stay closed if the feelers inside continue to be disturbed before sealing, so if a bug stayed dead still, it would let them go.
yes! I was fucking pissed at how 100 videos all show the plant closing but NONE of them show the entire digestion process. So fucking stupid. This video is the only one.
Dude, if that bug escaped that many times with me, I'd be like: You've made a valiant effort bug, you may go free! Out of sheer respect if nothing else.
I believe they're just ordinary spider mites. Take a look at basically any chunk of soil or a potted houseplant with a magnified lens, and you'll see all kinds of bugs and wormies running around that you never would've imagined. That's why you should ALWAYS rinse fresh food with water.
@@RT-qd8yl Those are not spider mites. They are springtails. They feed on mold and decaying organic material, so their presence is a benefit to the plant.

those mites aren't harmful to humans + they won't survive anywhere outside of the pot... these mites scavange for dead flytrap leaves...which also help the plant by composting the peat and provide the just the right amount of nutrients for the plant to survive but not too many to burn its roots.... basically if nature decided to put them there... let them be...
@@krystal5978 No. Those are springtails. They eat mold, fungi, and decaying organic material. They are beneficial. (unlike fungus gnat larvae which are also known to munch on fine root hairs)

Oh you are really bad with jokes aren't you. The point is that he fought like a beast and i mean, for all that fighting the little fella deserved to be free. And the plant should just get another bug. So, i hope i cleared things up for you.
Yeah i do hate bugs. However no i wouldn't complain, i for one is very much for the thought that nature might be cruel, but that's the way it's supposed to be. +Paola Castillo the prey needs to touch each of the whiskers in the mouth before it closes. this is to ensure that the prey is in the middle of the trap, because if it closed on 1 touch, the back legs of the bug could still be outside, and the bug or whatever would be able to pull itself out
+Sam T That's not how they work. The prey has to touch something like two of the hairs within a short period. You can see the VFT closing instantly as soon as that happens.
Thanks a lot Anita. It was some micromanaging yes. The plant was a present for my mom and when she came over visiting I had to move it and hide it so she doesn't get present-spoiled. I had to move it without having that show up in the time lapse 😃
