This is such an underrated film. Only saw it once, in a film class, years ago and LOVED it.
I agree. It was a crazy but romantic movie!
River has sent so many ' signs' these last 2 days. Eerie
***** so sad.
what kind of signs do you mean? 😱
Aylla Sousa He has come to me in many ways. He visits me. He is my spiritual brother. He hasn't left this earth entirely.
River was a gem. Now that I'm older, his stealthy ability to really hit the comedic notes and be a comedic actor, in addition to his dramatic range, are really painfully evident. A rare talent indeed, and a huge loss, but I'm glad we got him for the time he was here. Also, today is his birthday. Viva a River!
Joaquin must feel bittersweet about being so popular
"Are you ready to order?"
"Yes, goddamn it."
Her delivery of that line was perfect. I rewatched this after years and remembered how much I love it. And then "Who knows what this asshole wants"
Imagine ordering exactly like that lol
Especially in 1963.
Imagine someone did this in real life.
That would be funny. Lol. 😄
Last week I saw this movie for the first time ever and was so impressed. Can't believe how underrated it is!! River was gorgeous in this and so was Lilli Taylor. They were such a cute couple! This movie made me cry so much I couldn't believe how beautiful it was.
+Megan Phoenix how lovely. It's a quiet gem.
This movie made me cry twice - first, from how beautiful the movie and both of them were, and the 2nd time when i learned that River was long gone by the time I discovered him and it was with this captivating movie...
That was 20 years ago, ..and I am still not over it...has anybody that loved him ever gotten over it....you can get over a person, but you can never get over this eternal energy...this timeless soul....you will always be with us dear boy...💔
One of my favourite scenes in one of my favourite films- so unfairly overlooked but still a beautiful film.
Yes, this film is an overlooked classic along with Amelie, Where the Heart Is, Fools Rush In, Sweet Land, A World Apart, Whip It, The Straight Story, Beyond Rangoon and Gran Torino.
One of the best movies River ever did! He and Taylor did a great job.
+haylzntinker I think now that Lili is being discovered in American Crime, her films might be discovered too, hope so anyway. Mind you, they're very hard to get & (some), are not all that good although she is in them.
+Ivan Walters OMG, The Straight Story. How INCREDIBLE IS THAT FILM??? Oscar worthy with Richard & Sissy just absolutely superb, very much criminally overlooked. Again tinged with real sadness. Didn't Richard commit suicide?
Joyce Gibbs
Yes, sadly he shot himself after being diagnosed with terminal bone cancer.
love River's reaction when she starts cursing while ordering... he is in complete shock haha. makes me wonder if it was scripted for the scene to go that way or if she threw it in... so well done!
That look on River’s face is priceless!
One of the most underrated films ever made. One of the best films of the last 30 years. Don't miss it!
Man what an Awesome actor
yeah, Lili was brilliant in this.
River was amazing!
“Hey! Friendly, over here.” I love it.
2:13 his expresion is amazing. Love him.
this movie is one of those rarities that honestly a lot of people don't even know about. river Phoenix and lily Taylor have amazing chemistry in this film. that is magic that can't be forced. he was a great actor that could not handle the pressures of fame so he took an exit. not willingly but left us just the same. lily Taylor has never been fully appreciated by Hollywood. I kinda like that fact because she really shines in little independent movies like this. overexposure can actually hurt an actor because it diminishes true raw talent like lily Taylor. even river Phoenix chose his roles very carefully and did not become a cliche. then he died and was forever immortalized as a simply fine actor with amazing potential. he was actually supposed to be the male lead in the movie titanic. somehow I'm glad that didn't happen. he was much better an actor to be associated with that overproduced cinematic atrocity.
great post Ricky. I discoever Lili from this film and fell in love with her. She was such a great match with River. Both so talented and River said she was his favourite female co-star.
This scene reflected River’s talent as an actor to have such impassioned rage and then skillfully transform to thoughtful and innocent. May he forever Rest In Peace.
I love his voice ... dear River. ❤
Yep his voice ! I love everything abt him: acting style, his swag, and his beauty! What a handsome man!
I swear 'the end of the f***ing world' borrowed some inspiration from this movie
omg YES
No kidding hahaha
The chalk and cheese couple with a similar energy has been replicated in a lot of other films&tv shows too over the years. A good recent example is Compartment no. 6 in terms of dynamic between the protagonists.
i found this movie flipping through the channels back in 1999 ive been enamored with it ever since😍
It's so funny he still had the tag on the coat 😂😂😂.
Maybe he was planning on returning it back 😂.
@@AegonIItheusurper haha u know the rules goddamnit
@@dominicadominique2191 I've worked in retail lol.
I love this scene so much
Rose ordering is the funniest thing ever hahahaha... and River as always love you❤️
The first time I watched this movie was in 2005, I still like this movie and I ordered it online today it has to be in my DVD collection . I've been River's fan ever since. He's gone , but not forgotten. ❤
one of rivers most underrated performances... first time i ever watched it was a few years ago and i was hooked... love him and lil taylor together and this dinner scene in particular really lightens the mood... its wonderful!
Definitely underrated. Roger Ebert highighted it as part of River's legacy. I think his favorite films his were this and MOPI.
Lili Taylor has this charm in her that makes her stand out, even in a room of the most beautiful women
Rose is so selfless and she cares about him.
This movie is so underrated one of my fave romances it was so sweet 😩❤️
I loved this movie when I first saw it. I think Lili Taylor is an unappreciated actress. I have only seen her in a smattering of films and TV shows over the decades. But, I have liked everything I have seen her in: Mystic Pizza, Say Anything, Dogfight, Rudy, and even X-Files. I'm a child of the 80s and 90s, so that is most of what I've seen her in. R.I.P. River Phoenix.
Check out *I Shot Andy Warhol.* She was brilliant in that.
her acting is amazing in the conjuring!
one of my favourite coming of age films for a dude. This movie and Before Sunrise are one of the rare rmantic comedies for men.
River 😍
such a cute movie
This film is fucking great. Haha, I love it so much. Saw it for the first time on Tuesday night because of River, and it blew me away.
When I first saw this film I was so impressed with Lily but River was such a force in this part. He would have done so Many additional films if he would not have left us too soon
this is one of my fave scenes from any film
My fav actor in one of my fav movies. Miss him SM !😔
Rivers face at 2:26 lmao
I can see Leonardo DiCaprio took a lot of inspiration from River
Yes! Basically he copied his style completely!!
But Di caprio was never good as River was, River's sensibility and personnality are unique. I'm not having any emotion when I see Di Caprio's acting. And River was stunning!
@BedazzleGlitterGal I love how he sarcastically goes HA HA HA as they walk to their table.
that is funny
I love this movie. One of my favorites.
I love River Phoenix.😍

That scene when she’s ordering cracks me up omg 😂😂😂
I wanna watch the whole thing. this scene is brilliant. I didn't quite appreciate River's work until he was gone.
Dario Wirtha it’s free to watch on VUDU!
My favorite scene of the movie :)
A classic film that far too few people have seen; River and Lili were magical
3:15 the look she gives when he said, "I couldn't pay for it."
I’ve always loved that part !
I want to watch this movie so bad and it's not on firestick. Damn. Seen it for first time as a teen in late 90s and absolutely loved it.
Shanda Burnside Its online. Try putlocker. I watched it last night online. But make sure you block popups and don't click the ads lol
It’s free to watch on VUDU
Its so funny how river calls the hostes friendly n i love how river looks when rose orders her food n how river looks at the waiter n orders his beer .So funny!
One of my favorite movies ever..
Brilliant acting
Still an awesome movie, River rocks!$#

River Legendary actor
Son of a bitc*ing salad lol
I love that he's a vegetarian.❤️
River was vegan
yes! thats what i meant. sorry i always get those two so confused thanks for vthe correction i feel bad now
+rnhrdt1 aw don't feel bad, I used to get them mixed up all the time. I'm vegetarian myself so it's easier to understand
+Megan Phoenix GOOD FOR YOU. I wish I could go vegetarian. I tried but I always felt tired & it was effecting my job. I only eat chicken & fish though & not every day, but it's still eating something that's died for me, I don't feel good about it.
+Joyce Gibbs that's a good start if you want to do it in the future! Chicken and fish is good for you but other meat isn't good to be honest.
LOL at 2:13. His face is priceless
Not as priceless as the waiter seconds later with that eyeroll at the end.
“SEE, you are worth a buck!” 😭😭
I love River ❤ RIP💞
I love it was river is funny in his movies!
I have watched this scene a dozen times now and I have yet to not crack up at that waiters eyeroll after Eddie orders the beer. If I were to make a movie the first thing I'd want to do is hunt down that guy, see if he's still alive, and cast him in one of the leads.
Masterpiece
2:02 Rose starts swearing when ordering ❤️😂
Classic!
I love this movie!
God, he was so amazing.
I'll just take a fuckin beer 😂😂😂 classic hahaha
I have no idea why, but everytime when I heard River/Eddie saying "I couldn't pay for it. I mean I could pay for that, and I could pay or this. That's all till payday", it just got me.
@Capgungoesbang I know isn't it? I can watch it a billion times and never get tired of it.
Its really underated its a beautiful love story ..... X x c
That's true.
😂😂 "I'll just take a fucking beer"
Funny as hell. 😆👍
River was master of shoulders and arms
his body language was always great. little nuances he added to scenes. you cant take your eyes off of him
the fucking EPIC scene!!! :DDD
This movie was written by Bob Comfort who had been to Vietnam war. That is why the movie is so realistic and deep at the same time. The dialogues are so well written and acting is superb. This type of anti-war movie is so difficult to write, produce and act since it is so real.
The perfect double feature to watch with Stateside 2004 starring Jonathan Tucker and Rachel Leigh Cook
Priceless 👏😂
I will just have a f***ing beer!!!!!!
Wow 8 years ago ..just wow.

It was filmed in Seattle.
