Sky C J Cameron had already ended up wanting Leo for Titanic because River died. If River was alive he would have played the role ,but that would be if River wanted to do it. There were movies that he had already turned down. He was a great actor, no doubt abt it, but I heard that music was really his true passion. I like both River and Leo, but River was extraordinary. That's why between the 2 , I would choose River first. He was just sooooo talented. He was also a good musician, a poet. And his good looks, man! He was captivating

Its interesting where his career could have gone, given that he'd be close to 50 if he lived. I assume his talent could have taken him to some great roles.
There are some films in the early 90s that I think were very clearly written for River right before he passed away. Titanic, Interview with a Vampire etc. - People had him in mind when writing the films. He probably would have had like half of Dicaprio's roles had he been alive today, specifically in roles like Gangs of New York, The Great Gatsby and the Departed I think he would kill. River was Hollywood's up-and-coming golden boy at the time of his stardom. They had to find a new actor to be the face of the industry when he passed, so they went after DiCaprio.

I probably haven't even watched half as many movies with River than i should. I watched Stand by me a dozen of times. Explorers i've seen once when i was pretty much still a kid, Indiana Jones 3 and then one movie where he was a bit older. Can't remember the name or from when the movie was. But i'd seen enough to know that River Pehonix was a passionate actor. Somebody for the big stage. A actor that would not only give everything to deliver cause thats what got paid for but because this was what he loved. He loved acting. And i hate to watch a movie like stand by me and just think "that kid isn't alive anymore" when i see River in the film :(
I think the reason so many people of today’s youth like me, are able to connect with Rivers films or resonate with him and his persona is because, to us he represents the fact that often people who hurt, live shorter lives. It is also because he represents the age old idea that child actors will grow to be troubled people. It makes so much sense to me the more I think about it.

I guess Stand By Me, based on the Stephen King story , The Body is my favorite. Keefer Sutherland as Ace was a good choice. I like Sutherland in all his films from The Lost Boys on. He was great as Doc in the Young Guns movies too. Its tragic that River Phonex was so great as a child actor and his last films were fair but forgettable.

He was an still is the greatest actor of his generation an I think he wouldn't of gone on to do big budget movies , he'd of done a few here an there but he was an artist in his craft an I think he relished in independent movies were he was testing himself to the limit .I think him along side johnny Depp in Fear an loathing in Las Vegas would of been a perfect movie!!
