- What do you buy when the battery for your drill dies? You may be considering "should I buy the name brand Dewalt or do I buy a no-name knock off brand battery?" Well, we found ours on Amazon:
NOTE: BEFORE YOU BUY ANY BATTERY !!!!!!!
(We found these specific batteries on Amazon that are similar to what we purchased.
These seem to be commonly bought and still have pretty good ratings.
Be sure and check the compatability of your tool. Dewalt has 20v and 20v MAX tools and
batteries. Those cant be interchanged in the same tool. So be careful what you have and what
you buy. )

A knock off battery or a generic battery can offer significant savings over the name brand. But is it smart to not buy the Dewalt, or Milwaukee or Makita name brand battery? Are 20 volt batteries the same or is the difference between the 20 volt batteries significant enough?
In this video, I disassemble the Dewalt 20 volt battery and a no name knock off generic Amazon battery the was sold as a replacement battery for my Dewalt impact driver. The differences in the batteries made me questions if the money for the name brand battery from Dewalt was worth it.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!

Many thanks for this excellent video. It should be interesting to put each side in charge and measure the time before the stop...
Great suggestion!
unbranded 18650 cells are hit and miss. they are notorious for having higher internal resistance, lower current capability, lower capacity and often sold with false performance claims. there is a reason non-branded cells can be had for around a dollar each, and reputable cells go for $6-12 each
I agree. I have two clone 8 ah batteries from Amazon and they work fine in my DeWalt saws.
Disappointing, I was hoping for more information, like measurement of the actual aH capacity, whether it is up to XR levels of current draws. I am currently looking for additional batteries for my DeWalt Lawn Mower. This lawn mower is very hard on batteries. When I remove the first spent set and put them on the chargers they flash the overheated indicator for several minutes before they start charging.
I bought fake name-brand batteries before. I got some Panasonic branded that only put out 1200 mAh, they measured like a garden light battery instead of a tool battery it probably had a fake brand name wrapper. I also bought Chinese 18650 batteries that worked very well at about 3000 mAh I usually buy some samples from a vendor and I then test them before buying more for the things I sell but most Chinese batteries you get with devices like flashlights are horrible.
Thanks for the heads up! That’s a good way to test before you buy.
@@Housebarons I need to find a new vendor for the 18650s and that's what I have to do next is buy and test samples. I'll rebuild some drill batteries to test them out before I start selling batteries t
o people.
you're just paying for the r&d and name brand. The other batteries might be recycled batteries. Plus i can buy multiple noname batteries and replace them if they were to be stolen or break.
That is a very valid point - but sometimes you just get what you pay for.
However - we took the risk and in our case it was money saved.
Thx for watching!
Dewalt: We place performance and cost over our customers....just pay us....We love our customers!!!
Hey Ron,
Lol! Kind of looks that way - doesn’t it!!
We feel your pain😃
Thx again for watching!
While I'm personally more likely to buy off brand batteries. You HAVE to make sure they have a decent warranty.
A lot of these sellers are fly by night companies who might now be around in a year. Read the reviews and make sure they've been around for a while.
For example, I got batteries for my old dysons from off brand sellers. One has been great replacing a dead battery after ~11 months. The other brand disappeared within 6 months of purchase.
Good points. The reviews and # of quality reviews can help a lot!
it must have to do with dewalt making the batteries in america - but the cells come from china - so it doesnt matter at all really - its stupid
my failed dewalt 12v lithium pack says "made in Korea"
