My brother I cannot thank you enough my tools put my food on the table when I lost my use of two of my charge packs I was unhappy thinking I got to go drop another 150 dollars to get them but after I stumbled on you're video and did this for myself it saved me a fortune and made my day God bless you for sharing this video man stay blessed
Ok, SIR!! Thank you!!! I’ve seen a lot of videos on getting these things to work. None, and I mean none, have worked. Until now. Wow!! Thanks! Loved this. I’ll just say for those still watching this, if you have a bigger ah battery, just remember to do the 2nd deck!!!
I tried for several days to fix the battery, watched all the videos on UA-cam, read all the books, nothing helped. You are just a genius, now I am your Subscriber and your fan, be healthy, take care of yourself
I literally cannot believe that this resurrected my battery. I was having my doubts as I didn't hear any air release from any of the batteries, but sure enough, it showed life on the battery indicator and is now taking a charge again. I never knew the CID was a thing, thanks for sharing.
This worked on my dead 5ah battery. The charger would indicate a solid red light as if the battery was fully charged, when it was completely dead. Tried jump starting with no success. This trick brought it back to life. Thank you!!!
Used this trick and it worked great! I had a brand new battery that showed it had voltage, but wouldn’t charge. I did what you said to do and it took a full charge. Thanks for the tip!!!
Finally fixed this battery that i had only used 1 time. had to repeat the process 2 times but it works again. That battery has sat for 2 years waiting for it to miraculously fix itself and finally the answer. Thank you so much
Bravo! Craftsman v60 batteries have been discontinued, and I can't find one for sale at any price. Without this trick, I'd be taking a perfectly good lawn mower to the dump, and shopping for a new one. A comparable mower now is running over $600!
Did this, first battery leaked. Luckily I was prepared and expected for the worse - had gloves on and did it over the sink with the exhaust on to mitigate the fumes. I guess i must've punctured it in the process. Had a second battery that also had issues. I was more careful and diligent second time around. It worked (no air release). Just had to do trial and error with the charger to see if it did the trick. Working great though. I'll probably just remove the battery that is leaking from the first one and reolace it. Should be good as new though. Thank-you for sharing!
This video saved the day for me. After buying a new charger thinking it was dead and after trying two batteries and no lights on the charger and trying the jump start method to no avail, it didn't fix the issue. I was about to toss my batteries (2) and ran across this solution. At first I thought this may have been one of those BS videos, until I read the positive comments and decided to try it. Worked like a champ and took me about 10 mins to revive 2 batteries that would have been tossed. The air escaping did make me jump and I did see it on the video, but wasn't expecting it by the time I got to the second battery. It was a pretty good amount that came out to my surprise. Anyway, thanks a lot for this video. I'm a weekend deWalt user so this was an easy fix and saved me some good money on otherwise fairly new batteries. ✌
11-12-24 Out of curiosity I tried this hack and I am writing this review with the pack charging 👍👍 It was to be scraped and I had nothing to lose but 5 minutes. it worked holy SHIT IT WORKED NOW TO SEE IF IT CHARGES ALL THE WAY AFTER BEING DEAD FOR SO LONG? This is incredible that it worked , Again thank you for the video.
Fantastic! I didn't believe it until I tried it! Makes perfect sense though. All batteries need to vent. Now my four dead batteries are good as new!!! 👍🏼
It works! Just tried it on a 20 Volt Max battery I leave on my weed-eater year round…. even through Canadian winters. It wasn’t taking a charge but after this procedure it works like normal. I used the first method and it worked.
Thanks dude! Worked perfectly! Tried the jumper trick with no success then came across your video and released the gasses out of a couple of the batteries and charged it, and it worked! amazing never heard of this trick before and not sure how it works but it did!
I followed your directions and just now placed the pack on the charger. The pack is now taking a charge. 😁 It was showing less than 10 volts on a 20-volt pack. Thank you.
This is amazing, thank you! I tried the jumper trick a few times and it never took, figured my 2014 battery was dead and time to get a new one. Did this trick, then did the jumper trick again and now it's on the charger and seems to be working fine again.
Just Amazing! 🎉 I had what I thought were 4 non-chargeable, defective, dead, 20V batteries. I tried some other fixes/hacks posted by other UA-camrs . . .. all failed! This video when I first watched it . . . scared me a little in that I didn't want to get shocked or worse blow something up including myself!!! I took apart the first battery pack and took a small screwdriver and pressed on each positive top cap . . . 2 of the batteries released cell pressure! I thought . .. What? 😲 I screwed the case back together and pressed the led indicator button and all three green % charge bars lit up! This battery was not dead! It was fully charged! Same with the other 3 battery packs! It made me think that maybe one of my chargers is overcharging? Just to be safe . . . I bought a new Dewalt DCB1104: 4 amp, 2 stage charger! All Thanks to the "Dusty Workshop". 👍
Thank You!. Mine was a bigger double battery found the 8 sides with holes pressed down on them like you show one gave me the little swoosh of air. Battery works again! Nice post thanks again!
It works I got 2 of 2 working again. They had sat without charging for 9 yrs.The life giving battery needs to have some charge in it,to “reset “ the “dead” one. I haven’t tried but I think a 12 volt car battery could be substituted for a support battery.
I use a little nylon tool meant for mobile phone screens. Managed to chew 2 using a little flat head but haven't had issue since using this. PPE is a must tho. If you're in a spot you can't afford to lose a battery (no judgement, I am too), your sure as fuck not in a position you can lose your ability to earn. Keep safe, go gentle, measure and test once more than you need and treat with suspicion on 1st charge. When lithium goes tits up, it goes hard.
I just use a google translator for this🙂
Id be curious to see what a voltage meter on that was. Ive gotten the charger to accept the battery and charge it to what the charger indicates as a full charge and the pack still only has 10.25 volts. I'll have to give this a shot though. Thanks for sharing
The problem is once a battery gets this bad its on life support. You HAVE to open them up and measure the cell voltages. Constistently low but above 2V still is recoverable, one bad cell and you can throw the battery out. One reason why all my tools are 18V Makita is that they use a fairly simple BMS in the batteries and their batterys are comparatively cheap here a 4Ah pack is like 55€ while Bosch is almost 100€. Also from what I know Makita does not use cells with internal protection but im not sure. The higher voltage batteries like 40V 50V 60V are unrecoverable because they have a sophisticated BMS with memory in it because those batteries are more dangerous since more cells more voltage etc much more potential for a battery fire. So they will essentially disable and lock out the battery when anything is out of the ordinary.
You can break the thermal protection on the 18650s. Remember all those batteries exploded years ago? Well on the end of all batteries they put on thermal cut outs (this is that tiny coin looking object on the end, it has a sensor and a chip inside of it, shuts off the charge when it overheats) so you can “short out the charger direct to the battery”this way but you might well cause an explosion later on when the safety thermal switch doesn’t work. I would either replace the batteries inside the unit or just get a new power pack and keep your house from burning down
Well honestly if you want to spend another £100 at least on a decent dewalt battery then that’s up to you but now adays especially with the cost of living now people will be doing this as batteries are very expensive sometimes more than the drill it’s self half the time so this might be dangerous but I do it as well and at end of day shit happens if it smokes sparks all you do is bin it nothing dangerous trying and saving loads of money 👍
@@brunacruz4132 I don’t bin them I reset them I never bin them I try to get them working if I don’t then I wait till I’ve got another power pack to try more power to get it going again 😂

How to preserve a 18650 for a long time without using it? It`s enough to charge it once every 6 months, and store it in dry and room temperature? Thank you !!
Does this work with the normal 20v batteries without the charge indicator ? I have a battery that isn't charging, it just displays a full charge but has little to no charge when i put it in my impact.
10 battery packs, divided into 5 strings. The voltages are 3.5V for one string and 4.0V for four strings. The total voltage is 19.6V. It seems fine, but the charging light turns green only about 1 minute. Insert it into the water gun and use it ,the battery ran out of power in just a few minutes. How should I repair it?
Thanx for info, ,was wondering how many got the battery going on the jump start , or how many got it to go after pulling it a part, i have some that won't go on jump start, so thanx to you Sir ill pull them a part
I heard three offgassing while doing it. I was using a small flat head screwdriver, which seem to do a bit of damage but so far it’s not heating up or fixed now it’s an outside battery.
Your cells are simply almost dead with here undervoltage (no more possible charge again by protection) : no BMS here in the battery for cheaper price, but only in the charger. With your dangerous method (you can destroy the overpressure protection of each cell) you get an upper voltage again : charge works again, but you get only correct voltage at the end , no more amps. You have the illusion that your pack is alive like new, but it will stop very quickly by use. (How many mns for yours? Is your pack correctly balanced? What IR value?) However If you want to do this (useless, your pack is dead) , connect the battery first to a normal 18/20V charger during 1 mn and then place it immediately on the lithium charger : you have the same result with less danger....Here the only good solution is to change the cells with low internal resistance and high amps drain for a drill. (And no cells from a laptop!) But when I see your "precautions" on the video, first of all against possible shorts, I think the best for you is to buy a new one. Sorry but such a video is useless and dangerous.
