    We did some mig root pipe for some Texaco water injection stations back in the 80,s. It was internally coated which the mig ròot was perfect for. It was then filled and capped with 7018. Worked in some fab shops that used weld positioned and the same 7018 fill and cap. Feather edge land. Bridge tracks were standard. Fit and tacked by one crew of welder and a fitter then passed onto the positioner.

    Great vid Calvin, lovely to hear a Brit accent on a welding vid. Really good content, picked up loads of tips. Particularly licked the use of counter balance to aid in rotation. Have never considered that but tbh do very little pipe & never to this size. Really don’t understand the 3 thumbs down though. Will now watch your other vids. Thanks for sharing

    should invest in an 8" lathe chuck, fab up a spinner on your table. i fit all my spools in my chuck, handle everything one time. Also, bevel those damn pipe pups. lol

  • @adamw.6488
    @adamw.6488 4 роки тому

    also, make some dogs ( we call them ) just a piece of plate with a big bolt on one end. tack it to the bevel and set the pipe on the bolt ( use 2 for fitting up ) and adjust the bolts in / out to get your proper fit up. works sweet on bigger stuff like this when doing 90's and such.

Usually, these types of jobs are done by large companies. To the external welders contractors there are no possibilities. . It also depends upon whether there is a weld procedure to be followed which has been done with all solid wire. I agree, flux/metal cored is so much better due to metal deposition and speed but solid wire does the trick. I'm just glad he's not doing it with tig, I'm so sick and tired of seeing jobs tig welded when they should be mig welded.

      do not think the pipe work is to the highest standard if it was he would not be welding counter weights to the pipe,his caping runs look and sound like he is using spray transfer high current and speed of travel in this mode you can also tell by the look of the weld profile.this guy is paid by results which makes him to do what he does as any body in his position would ,and is making a bloody good job of it,been thier and done it,you learn your trade in this environment. Vertical down weld using spray transfer is a problem but he is not coming vertical down but on a incline.could go on but it would bore the tits of you all .

    • @kronicsoldier
      @kronicsoldier 4 роки тому +1

      @@trichards7981 its downhill the molten puddle is moving down hill. If the pipe rotated the other way and he was carrying the puddle upwards it'd be vertical uphill-rolled. Damn was used to have to do cut outs just for striking a arc outside the arc zone and hes purposely tacked pieces to the pipe... this cant be high pressure or for the oilfield. Probably arent xrayed welds and only run about 10-12 bar pressure in them... So god work for what they are.
