- It's been over 300 days since I picked up the Apple Watch Ultra and I figured it'd be nice to circle back and talk about how this smart watch is holding up and if it's something I'd recommend you pick up.

I held back on getting the ultra because I thought it’d be too big for my wrists (150mm, quite small) - but I tried it on in-store last week and was surprised that I liked it!
I’ve heard a couple things about the new ultra coming out next month:
- black/dark colour option
- faster processor using a smaller transistor size, which would lead to efficiency gains and even better battery life :)
That's exactly what I've heard. I'll probably talk about some of these rumors and then some stuff that probably won't make it out until AWU 3. The micro led stuff sounds very very interesting. Thanks for posting this. 👌

Been using a AW6 for running - totally livable and works well. With riding, looking at my wrist is challenging (plus battery life on long rides), broke down and picked up a used Wahoo Roam. I’m guessing knowing Apple they’ll be a AW Ultra refresh in September. Thanks for the updates! As anything with Apple - avoid the first one 😁
So you might be very interested in that WatchOS 10 stuff. Using the iPhone as a bike computer is actually pretty cool.
After 296 days, my Watch Ultra is still in pristine condition and I never regretted buying it. Can’t wait for watchOS 10.

Great video as always, love the graphics you’re using. As for the AWU, I’ve used my fénix 6 pro solar once since I’ve got the AWU, the last time I used the fénix was for a trip to Vancouver where charging my battery wasn’t going to be convenient or as frequent. Other than that, my AWU does the trick. I use Athletic to track sleep, recovery, and strain info. IMO it works just as well as whoop. When I need off line mapping and navigation routing I use work outdoors. Not sure that I would buy a Garmin watch again. I’m a trail runner, and cyclist.
That's great feedback. I'm with you about having options. I went on a week long trip and made sure to pack a Garmin Enduro watch just knowing that I'd never have to worry about battery life. It'll be interesting to see what Apple does over the next few years. I'd love to see them look into recovery tracking.

Love my Apple Watch Ultra. It's holding up really well. I just wish it'd have more sport features like training readiness. I suspect it's coming but might be a few years tell we get it

Great video, I love my AW Ultra. I cycle & Run and for these sports it’s been great. It lasts through a full marathon and 400 km bike rides. However if you are an ultra runner/long distance athlete, then I could totally see the merit in going with a device that’s got a week’s worth of battery life.

I went from a Fenix 6 Sapphire, to AWU, back to Fenix, and just upgraded to the Epix Pro Sapphire the other day. Imo the Epix/Fenix line is the best watch on the market for someone who runs/bikes/swims every single day like myself. The Ultra is cool, but it’s just not there yet.
I think that's a fair assessment. That Epix Pro is such a nice device. I love the fact that it has a built in flashlight. It's so useful. 👌
I'm sooooo tempted to get the Epix Pro and sell my Fenix 7. That display looks so good, and the flashlight would be useful.

@@mrnicbst - I would pick a number and see if you could sell it. The Epix Pro really is fantastic. If you don't get your asking price then just wait for a while and max out the value of that Fenix 7. (also a great watch)
Lovely video, the content and especially the shots + editing. So skilful :) I had the Epix watch and now the Enduro 2 (was tempted to get the AWU to try it was way too much buying 3 watches in 1 year), and the DLC coating gets easily scratched. Lens is intact but the coating blemishes easily! Keep it up

I really like my ultra. I wish apple would add maps to the workout app and then select that as one of the screens that could be accessed during a workout. That’s an easy software fix, but don’t know if they’ll do it.

Yeah as a page just as heart rate zone etc. would be amazing. For exploring new routes when on vacations etc. would be on another level

Why can’t you make 80min video?? And every time I seriously contemplate to buy a new Garmin (Epix Gen2 Pro this time), video like this comes from you which holds me back to my Apple Watch (SE). I was considering AW Ultra but I don’t like this colour and never bought anything at first iteration. AW Ultra 2 looks interesting going by the rumour. Beautiful video. @@mlegrandI have AW S7 and F6 Sapphire. I switch back and forth between them but it’s mostly AW on my wrist. For me, the day Apple launches offline mapping, recovery time and 4-5 days battery life, Garmin and others should get back to drawing board.
Still love my ultra after 300 odd days - no regrets. It’ll be interesting to see if Apple announces a redesign in Sep. Only reason to do so would be to house a bigger battery but I think that’s unlikely.
I’ll be watching but a new faster or more efficient processor could help with the battery life. 🤷🏻♂️

I think they will add a glucometer / blood sugar reading that would make it worth the wait. Plus the aforementioned color change and maybe slightly thinner with the same battery life and size screen.
My guess is that we won't see something big like that until the AWU 3. They might even need an entirely new watch strap system before we see that. Rumors are that it's coming for the AW X which might line up with the AWU 3 in September of 2024. 🤷♂️
I like my apple watch ultra and it works well with apple ecosystem which am too invested but wish focus on longer and lasting battery life, most people think it’s battery is good it might if you had previous watches but am not impressed if you own another brand watch like Garmin, for the next it’s one of the reason I love my Garmin Fenix 7

The other week, my watch restarted (instinct solar 2) AND GOT ALL THE UPDATES. I now have a morning report AND a training readiness score. Far as I can tell, the readiness score updates once at the beginning of the day, but it is so cool to see! I love the new features on the watch.
What watch do you reach for more often? Or what watch in the last 300 days have you been reaching for? Do you think Apple has done enough to disrupt the Garmin market?

I most often will have on two watches. This AWU and a Garmin watch of some sort. I prefer how Garmin tracks sleep and has that morning report. My wife stole my 965 so I've been switching between the Epix, Enduro 2 and the 955.

So from my understanding, I can use my Garmin heart rate sensor with the Apple Watch? I would just connect it to Bluetooth?
As long as your Garmin HR sensor has bluetooth out. 👌🏻
Great videos, I just stumbled on your channel . I wanted to ask you what is the best watch for navigating . I’m not that much into data like heartrate etc . I do mountain biking like trail and downhill riding , and my I phone with maps or trail forks is not that accurate when I’m at the trail for the first time and I don’t know directions
I would look at the Garmin watches with mapping. They tend to do a great job for things like trails. I’d look at the forerunner 965 and the Fenix series of watches. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

I Will only consider upgrading my series 6 to an ultra if the following becomes true. One the from phone two computer transfer speed does not improve significantly on the 15 pro models of the iPhone and the Ultra and regular Apple Watch gets a more power efficient SOC that improves battery life. Does Apple increase the data transfer speed significantly on the 15 pro max then I will be buying that and upgrade my Apple Watch next year. If not my purchasing decision will be based on wether or not the battery life gets improved.
I think we *might see a slight battery life improvement due to a more efficient processor bump but I doubt it'll be a big enough difference that you'll make the jump. The following year's 2024 AWU might be the upgrade to hold out for. 🤷♂️
Great long term review. Would you mind sharing your battery health please? I’ve had an Apple Watch 7 for over a year now and I’m already down to 89% and no longer using the always on display… Hoping that things fair better with the Ultra? But like you said, waiting to see what gets announced in Sept. Thank you!
98% I’ve always used always on display and I’ve worn it very very regularly since I purchased it. Ordered the day it came out.
Wow! Ok so that speaks volumes. That tells me one could theoretically own one of these for say 2-4 years before really “needing” to replace it. I’ve always used my iPhones until they died and didn’t upgrade yearly just to get the newest version, and I’d like to try and do that with the watch as well. But after less than 1.5 years with my Apple Watch 7, the battery has been disappointing. Super helpful, thank you!

I had mine for about 200 days and I love it for the durability and battery life. I would recommend the Ultra even with the keynote around the corner because IMO I don’t think there will be any major upgrades just color options and a newer chip( if Apple even reveal the Apple Watch Ultra 2). The major upgrades will be on the Apple Watch X
100% agree with you. Maybe the older device will get discounted? I am going to mention the Apple Watch X in the rumors video I'm working on. Sounds like the AWU3 could be a very big update. 🤷♂️

The Ultra looks to hold up well, but the Garmin almost looks better scratched up than in mint condition. Not sure the same could be said about the Ultra.

Amazing video, I’ve been using an AWUltra for the past 3 months and loved it with both outback camping and triathlons. I am curious tho if anyone has recommendations on great running/biking headphones?
I typically recommend for people to keep their ears clear during biking so they can hear traffic but there's a good option called Shokz that have bone conductive audio. amzn.to/3E4rk9Q Hopefully some day I'll get to do a review of these here on the channel. 🤷♂️

I have an apple watch series 4 and I want to upgrade to a newer one
Question do you think is better to go with the ultra 2 or get the ultra 1 for a way better price?
And if you think buying applecare+ is the way to go? Or is it strong enough to take the risk?
I don’t want you to not get Apple care and it be a big mistake for you but my AWU 1 has held up extremely well. No issues with it yet. As for the previous version or new, I think I’d get the new one unless the price you’re seeing is crazy low.

What macro lens did you use and was attached to a smartphone camera or a DSLR?
Well, I used a few different macro lenses in this video. All of these were attached to a mirrorless digital camera. The A7S3.
Would you replace your Garmin or Coros with the AWU?
Replace is a harsh one. I don’t think I would. I really like AWU but there is so much I would miss from a Garmin.

I really thought the AWU was going to end up with 5 day battery life. It was a bit disappointing. Maybe if the AWU 2 gets a processor update it'll be more efficient and squeeze out a bit more battery life. We'll see. 🤷♂️

It’s probably just the lighting and the macro lens I use. If you saw it in person you’d probably have a hard time finding any issues.

It looks to me like it might be every year, although it might just be a color and processor bump. But Apple has a pretty tight refresh cycle.
