Agreed, given I'm an android user and just bought the s23 at the start of the year, I'm waiting till it's no longer getting updates, but by then the apple watch ultra series will be fantastic, and even better than it is now. And I'm certain I'll at least try it out.
Same. I work from home as an analyst and need to be able to take calls during working hours, but I get easily lured into opening apps after I am done speaking. It’s a bad excuse, but I feel like this could be a useful too.
I’m also a 40yr old Dad who knows I have a phone addiction. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the inspiration and push I needed to put that phone down and focus on what’s most important. I wish you all the best in your journey as well.
Takes a strong person to admit to their addictions, no matter how trivial they seem. You got me at that point in the video. I was with you the rest of the way. I am trying to leverage the watch and turn off the phone. Thank you.
I wish every tech review was like this. I feel like everyone comes to hear opinions and real world experiences but all we ever get is tech specs and endless comparisons to other brands. Nice job!
Leaving my phone at home and just having my watch has made things so much better when going out with my family. I don’t have kids asking me to get off my phone anymore and just being present is such a better way to live. Great video dude.
@@himanshutripathi5735 Many carriers provide free twin-sim options (at least in Norway), where you have one plan but they send you two esim codes, and they'll just share the data quota.
One thing I did was pick the 13 Mini and have decided to stay with it. I need it for online banking and other useful functions like email and texts but I keep it fairly limited to apps that are functional. My Ultra 2 is fast becoming my go to device for communications by phone and texting via dictation vice typing. I’m discovering that I really don’t need to have my phone with me all the time. The Ultra/Ultra 2 makes that possible. In fact, if I were going on a trip I would take my iPhone, Ultra and my camera but leave the phone in the hotel. Good job.
Excellent video! I have an Ultra, and occasionally swap it back for one of my analogue watches, but when I use the Ultra with cellular, I love it - the feeling of casting off the shackles of my phone is amazing. Literally feel lighter, more present. But still communicatable (word…?). And can pay for stuff. It’s great. And like others, might dust off my old DSLR, as taking pictures is the only thing I miss not having my phone.
Probably one of the best review videos I’ve seen in a long time. Seriously, dude. Such a great opener and so great to cut through the noise of all the typical review videos and talk about what this product does to create a FEELING. Plus “Fix You” by Coldplay made me feel my feelings too… 🤘🙌
This video should be viral to no end. Literally the truth in every way. Even though everyone differs in how much time is spent on media (social, email, etc), there’s always room for growth in making time to be DISCONNECTED.
I want you to know that I’ve watched all those other videos and the real authentic nature of this video made me order my new watch immediately after watching this. I’ve been on the fence but you spoke to something that means a lot to me disconnection while still staying connected.
Love the introduction. Love the personal side of the video. I’m 41 and been feeling the exact same way. I feel your video could use a stronger title to attract others to it. I appreciate your video. Good luck with getting your freedom back.
Agree 100%. That's the reason I am considering getting one. I am glad you brought it out to the world... It's a relatively big screen that can replace your phone for the important things and avoid part of the wasted time we spend on the phone... and this should ultimately reduce anxiety. Also the battery thing is real as well. Not having to worry about it reduces anxiety a bit gime, I always try to get the bigger phone, to get the bigger battery
Dude I got a CAT S22 and just couldn't. I'm a Pixel user, but got the AWU2 for all the reasons you listed, and it's been the best way to disconnect because you keep all the things you need, plus most of the entertainment, without useless scrolling. Great video! Very happy I got to see it.
Absolutely loved this video, Brandon! 41 year old here also with similar phone concerns. 10 days into having the Ultra and it's the best tech I've had in years. Yes, tech and build awesome but as you put so well, the freedom to not be constantly consumed by the phone. Taking the watch for a hike on Sunday with the AirPods Pro and no phone was liberating! New sub here and look forward to more videos!
You have no idea how awesome it is to come across this video. I’m planning on pretty much going phone-less in 2024 and the Ultra is a big part of the reason why I can even consider that. Just the right amount of connected that I need and it makes me almost excited to be able to be free from my phone!
This is exactly why I bought my Ultra 2. I’m so sick of spending every second of the day on my phone. I love still being connected but disconnected from all the socials. Also $10 a month for cellular is a steal. Solid vid!
Wait, that’s for the whole phone plan right? Where I live I pay approximately the equivalent of $14 for my phone plan (calls and data) and that includes my Apple Watch plan as well. Get 32GB/ month and 300 mins calling any phone on any network.
How do you mean impossible? Is it not enough to get by, or $14 is too cheap for 32GB over there? (In the Netherlands we pay a €5 extra for watch cellular on whatever plan you and have. )
I loved the intro. It inspired me to get out more. I’ve had my ultra watch for a few years and it also somehow has no dings or marks when many times I thought it would get one. I’m a union commercial interior carpenter too
I seldom leave comments but here goes: 1. Fantastic intro, kept me hooked, looked beautiful too 2. Getting the specs out the way you did, nice 3. Having the courage to be brutally honest, mate, respect 👏 4. Actually gave a review that was, simply put, different See you at 1 Million subscribers soon bud. Keep at it ❤
Fantastic video. I've been trying to ditch my iPhone for years but NOTHING worked. I tried dumb phones, even turning my iPhone into a dumb phone. It was always there to scroll or waste my time. Until I remembered the Apple Watch, this is a game changer for people who are aware of the detriments of smart phones. They're awful for us. A cellular Apple Watch, solves everything. Great job man!
Dude, I really appreciate this video and it's the first video I've ever watched of yours. I also got the Ultra when it first came out, so over a year ago. It's hands down my favorite piece of technology. I leave my phone at home all the time and it's freeing. I so relate to what you were talking about with Instagram and needing to disconnect more. The Ultra is a piece of tech in a long while that I feel like benefits us in the sense of it creates a method to stay connected, without being too connected. I also literally have zero marks on mine and I snowboard, surf, backpack and have a crazy 1.5 yr old who is always trying to bite it. I loved this video. Also we just went to the Oregon Coast a few weeks back and stayed at the Hallmark right in front of Haystack rock, so that was fun to see. Also love all the Melin gear, I might be more addicted to Melin hats than Instagram now 😂
Thank you! A refreshing point of view, I’m so sick of all the “specs reviews” they aren’t reviews, they are ads…. So thank you! Side note, what hat are you wearing? Love the vintage rope on the brim, but I can’t make out the brand. Thank you! And thanks again for the refreshing perspectives!!
You very accurately describe my feeling of owning the Ultra watch. It is the feeling, the awareness of all that it can do, that it is so universal, and covers so many different aspects. That many people do not understand that the built-in apps are in many cases only intended for demonstration, and not the ultimate, and that the ultimate must be found in the APP store, it's such a shame for the watch, but it's just in the reason. people's misunderstanding. For example, built-in workouts may not be the best, but you can download so much else. The same applies to navigation, sailing, - yes, almost everything you can dream of. From Photo to Cars, from Astrology to Zoology.
Thank you this was an amazing video. I have the Apple Watch Ultra and I feel like I bought it for the same reason, to not have to pick up my phone every five seconds. I don’t do any social media so that’s not a problem but sometimes I’m just always looking at the face of the phone to see if I’ve missed a text or notification. I really like your video. It really spoke a lot to me about why I have the watch as well.
I have the Apple Watch Ultra (1st one) and this video popped up in my feed as I was looking at potentially switching to the Fenix 8, due to battery life and diving (without having a subscription). But this video brought me back to realizing a big benefit of the Ultra. I have a job where I'm on call, so I can't disconnect, but I love the Ultra allows me to leave the phone, but stay minimally connected via the watch.
You hit the nail on the head. Apple Watch Ultra = Freedom I too, like yourself have an addiction to my phone. Being now able to leave my phone at home and still be contactable in an emergency is a godsend. You’ve gained a new subscriber 😊
Wow. In all seriousness, you should be an inspirational speaker. I mean taking a piece of tech and making a statement about it in this way… wow. I rarely watch an entire “review” but I did for this and it was awesome
I had a first or second gen Apple Watch and got rid of it because it was adding distraction on top of my phone addiction/distractions. With new battery life in the Ultra, I came back to the watch, so I could leave my phone behind. Man, this is freeing and I even use theatre mode all the time to limit the 'screen lights up' distraction. As a Gen X'er, I grew up without the distraction of phones and this move has been a blessing that was actually easy to do. I love when I go out to dinner and someone asks me to check my phone for something. I just tell them I don't carry that. Plus, I don't have that stupid weight always in my pocket, that often gets in the way when squatting down to tie up shoes.
Yeah it’s so nice to just say I don’t have it. Especially with my kid haha. I love my kid, but god damn I don’t wanna sift through a million tik tok videos for that one cat video
What a great way to describe how one can leave their phone and at the same time don’t feel anxious about not being connected. I’m gonna take your word for it, and go on hikes without my phone. That would really be something new in my life. Thank you so much for this, Brandon. And yes, I have liked and subscribed👍
Don’t know if you’ll see this comment since the video is quite old now, but wanted to tell you anyway: I’d say it’s quite rare that I subscribe to a channel after only having watched one video from it, but your combination of content (that speaks to my interests), the time put in to making that beautiful intro (the kind that almost makes me embarrased for getting to watch it for free) and your honesty and down to earth personality made it a no-brainer. I’m very surprised you haven’t got more subs and views, yet, but I guess the algorithm just haven’t realy picked you up yet. Only a matter of time tho in your case, so keep at it and thank you for providing quality content for free!
Refreshing content, love your take on the ultra. It make so much more sense to me than any of the 1000 reviews I’ve wasted time watching that say the same exact thing. This is a video of true value. Thank you - I just bought myself the Ultra!
I'm a smaller guy, and with smartphones getting bigger and noticing an addiction myself, I've wanted a better solution for a while. But like you discovered, feature phones/the Light Phone do too little. But you! You lead me to believe this is a viable replacement for my phone (amongst many other Ultra videos). I hate to leave Android, but I'm looking forward to leaving the phone at home!
I'm so glad you made this video. I've been searching for something exactly like this. I would love it if you could make a follow-up that details your day-to-day usage of both devices. I want to make this transition myself but want to know that it's making a real difference every day and I would love to hear how you choose "today is going to be a phone day" vs a "watch day."
Sure thing! But it would be incredibly hard to just label it a phone day or a watch day, it really depends on what my needs are. Like I said in the video, I could have done (and have done) everything on my watch. The only reason I needed my phone was to control the camera app. I'm personally just seeing the phone more and more as unnecessary. I leave my phone on my nightstand when I go to bed, and it stays there when I wake up. All my work is done on the computer. IG & YT is now done on the computer as well, and not the phone. To make my workouts more efficient I just take the watch because I take less breaks and work harder when I just have music and I'm not texting or watching UA-cam video. I will say the phone has an advantage over the watch when it comes to maps because of the real estate, so if I NEED to go somewhere I never have, the phone is less stressful to rely on, but other than that, everyday is "everything but the phone" day.
I'm upgrading from a AW8 to the Ultra 2... I hadn't thought about it actually REPLACING my phone for a lot of the time. Now I'm looking to do just that! Thanks for the video. It's giving me a LOT to think about... 👍
I loved the part where you say I won't talk about the specs and instantly reveal the specs. Chef's Kiss! I have beat the snot out of my Series 8 so many scratches on the glass. But I agree, the no socials on the watch is a huge reason why that is the device I got for my 12 year daughter. She wanted and iPhone so she could call us (or her friends) and I wanted not be be sucked into socials (yet) and the Watch was the best of both worlds compromise. She loves it, and it doesn't distract her. Great intro Brandon what a journey!
The effort you made for this video was epic. Keep it going and I’m sure I’ll be one of those guys that says “I remember following this guy before his channel blew up!”
Brandon, 1. Intro was lit. 2. That comment about why it’s not conventional review made me giggle. 3. That screen time graph made me think and I see I spend lot of time scrolling on Instagram. Deleted it. 4. And usefulness of Apple Watch the one in ecosystem and who spends 30-45mins outside the very day exercising leaving iPhone behind is liberating. That’s an amazing amazing amazing amazing amazing amazing video. Can’t wait for the next one. Keep them coming mate. Take care. Cheers.
Oh man thank you so so much. Not all the videos are going to be so epic, that would kill me haha, but I do my best to make each video really valuable though:)
It's so annoying to me that apple doesn't make the apple watch ultra a standalone device. Even if you get it with cellular you need an iphone for it to connect to for setup and updates. I'd love to just only own the watch
As a 41 year old man myself I can relate to so many of your points…Never considered an Ultra before but this peaked my interest. I would watch more of your product reviews if you keep taking this “journey map” approach.
Just stumbled open your video while considering an upgrade to AWU2 for my Series 4 - you are the first reviewer who seemed genuine talking about the watch and your addiction, like a breath of fresh air. Gonna pick up my AWU2 soon. cheers mate!
I had the light phone for 6 months and it was amazing but definitely a challenge at times. I had to go back to my iPhone 13 mini due to some limitations I had during a medical emergency. That said I felt so free and having a smartphone again is kind of stressing me out even without using 90% of the features and dumbing down the phone. This does seem like a good compromise though. Good review
@@BrandonTalbot Thanks luckily it didn't have any long-term issues. It was just concerning that I was not able to contact anyone when in the ER due to lack of reception. The texting was also a pain when doing it in mass (mostly because the e-ink screen). If it had an LCD screen (which they are doing for LP3) and ability to have pop-ups solely for logging into public wifi (for wifi calling) it would be the perfect device.
Awesome video. I am in the same boat. I know I spend way too much time on my phone and actually, I just turned 40 today. I see my habits rubbing off on my kids, and it's disturbing. I can't tell my kids to do things I wouldn't be willing to do myself. I have been researching dumbphones like crazy, and then I ran across your video. the iWatch is the way to go. it has everything I need, and nothing I don't. I am gonna be picking one up as soon as I can.
Terrific Video. Just got an apple watch Ultra yesterday ( upgraded from series 7) and i could not agree more. The idea that i don't have to pick up my phone for literally everything is allowing me to feel a bit more disconnected and the freedom to not have to pick up the phone as much and doom scroll.
Currently have AW7 which I love, but definitely want to upgrade to AW Ultra later this year. I do love the idea of leaving my iPhone at home more, 2 things holding me back, the loss of the camera app and also Apple Books app, I know I could switch to Apple Books audio but I do love the actual act of reading a book in my spare time.
Great video. Love the intro. I’m using my AWU more and more as a stand alone and leaving my IPhone at home. The only thing I miss is not having my camera and I no longer want to carry and SLR around
I loved this. Loved the self-reflection, the honesty, the perspective, and the way you helped us feel through the journey with you. Maybe it’s the algorithms, but watching this is almost serendipitous for me. I was just musing with a friend yesterday about how our brains are not evolved to handle to constant bombardment of echo-chamber content and bad news. The steady stream leaves me feeling exhausted, angry and fearful most days. He encouraged me to remove my news widgets and unnecessary notifications. It feels like I’m weaning off a drug, but in just 24 hours I notice myself feeling more at peace and with greater bandwidth. Just got the AWU2 last week, so maybe it’s time to plan some hikes. At the same time, most of our can’t spend our lives off the grid. As inspired as I felt by your week-long trek, I would love if and how you’re maintaining a healthy disconnection in your day-to-day life.
B*llshi*t, this is not a review??? Man you’ve given us the BEST REVIEW any one us could ever imaging. I watched 23 reviews in total trying to find that real edge to purchase one. This video straight up is the answer. You’ve edited 4TB of footage for this video. Of you’re a phone addict - no way this is possible. You were able to do this because you’ve found peaceful connection to your passion again! Mad respect man! Sick studio by the way!!!
I was honestly shocked by this video. I was expecting sooooo much more considering the title...but that wasn't the case. First off...loved loved LOVED the intro! So cool man... Second, I've been considering the Ultra or a Garmin for my outdoor activities and hiking. This definitely swayed me more into the direction of the Ultra because for what it is, it'll work for me. Plan my hike on CALTOPO...save the GPX...load to watch...leave the house. Without my phone (depending on where I'm going, but most of the time I'm in the "front country"). Anyhow...amazing video good sir. Definitely earned my sub.
@@BrandonTalbot Honestly I was super stoked to see you were near Canon Beach and the Goonies House! I'm born and raised in Oregon so those places are such a huge part of my life and childhood!
In the UA-cam video "The REAL Reason You Should Buy An Apple Watch Ultra," the creator shares his personal experience of completing a road trip without his phone and condensing the footage into a three-minute video. He emphasizes that the Apple Watch Ultra's true power lies beyond its specs and discusses how it helped a 41-year-old man manage his addiction to social media by offering necessary connections while eliminating distractions. The watch's impressive features, such as cellular service, credit card storage, and robust health tracking, make it a game-changer for the man's daily life. The speaker also shares their own experience with battery anxiety using a regular Apple Watch and how the Apple Watch Ultra provides a sense of freedom by allowing them to leave their phone at home, although it may not be suitable for ultra endurance athletes. Despite some minor quirks, the speaker highly recommends the Apple Watch Ultra for those who can afford it for the feeling of disconnection while still receiving important metrics.
This is so raw, so real, and such a different take on the “why” of an Ultra. Like you, I too am glued to my phone. The idea that you can decouple from the phone to that extent is hugely appealing. Come to think of it, it’s why I shifted from Blackberry to iPhone all those years ago. I hated the ubiquity and constant connectedness of the Berry. Remarkable that so many years later, I’m still stuck in the mire. And please, don’t feel inadequate because of the ‘Gram. None of that shit is real. Peace out bro, thanks for this video.
Such a genuine review. I love that you consider the family that matters in relation to the device, 2 thumbs up for not joining the saturated group of reviewers who just run down the basic reviews like every one else.
Great review man! Best one I've watched in ages. I had the AWU and sold it to buy a garmin. Unfortunatly no cellular on Garmin which results in me having my phone with me all the time and using it way more than I should...
Great video. I don’t use any social media at all and still have a chronic phone habit/addiction, mostly news and some daft pool game. I’d have a very serious problem on my hands if I did use SM. Having the cellular watch means I can have two days a week phone free and wow what a difference it makes. Being disconnected occasionally in an over disconnected world really does help to manage anxiety levels and all the other issues that excessive screen time causes. For anyone thinking of a cellular purchase to manage their screen time i’d say, ‘'do it’’.
I enjoyed this video. As an outdoor enthusiast I was very impressed by the backtracking feature. I use All Trails and Komoot on my iPhone. I would enjoy seeing more details on what is possible on the Ultra.
Amazing video mate. I´m thinking of purchasing an Ultra 2, and I also have the over addiction, as I spend about 7-8 hours. Hopefully I can start working without phone. Also, what is the best way to run outside, and still have music on the watch? Any specific app? All the best!!!
I’ve watched so many reviews of the AWU2 and this by far is the best. Great job! The intro was sick and got me hooked! I just ordered a black AWU2 recently waiting for it to arrive and this is exactly what I would like to do; get rid of my phone addiction while still having access to the main things I need.
Well done! Really enjoyed the video. I do have a some thoughts with a question regarding the ultra. I bought the Apple Watch SE for the same reason, to disconnect from my phone. However, after trying to leave my phone at home I’ve found several major drawbacks. First is the intermittent Bluetooth pairing with AirPods. It’s usually great, but sometimes it gets messed up and the only way to resolve is to re-pair through my phone. Also, many apps, such as music and podcasts are downloaded onto the watch through the phone. So the iPhone is still necessary as a central hub station that you interact with and must use on regular basis to keep your watch media up to date. I don’t use social media but still enjoy music and podcasts and talking on the phone. Have you ran into these issues on the ultra as well? What is your experience with disconnecting from the phone entirely?
First time ever in UA-cam, I saw person elder than me and wayyy more experienced. Opening about the downsides of mobile phones and embarrassed to say so about ur usage. Love it that u are soo honest sir ❤. Loved the whole vedio and u EARNED a subscriber ,even if u did not say to do so.
Great video and just subscribed!! Picked up my Ultra 2 this week and it’s an insane upgrade over my Series 4. I’ll be sending your video to a couple of buddies to help convince them this is the way to go!
As a senior person I lived a lot of years without a phone and it was much better in the ways that you describe. Way too much time on not just the phone but iPads and Macs too. This will give me what I need to stay connected in a necessary way. With a 6" wrist this is going to be honking big but that's OK. At least I will be able to see the screen without my glasses at the gym.
Thanks for making this video. I envision myself just owning an watch, an iPad and a iMac for working. Getting rid of the phone will free me from some screen time. Having an iPad will still offer me the opportunity to watch some of the content I want on my free time 💡
100% agree - using it as a minimalist device!. For ultra runners / bikers - on your breaks/food stations you can use a portable fast charging battery pack; did this at aid stations at 50, 100+ mile races; technically you can do this at a ironman, but most people (understandably) want to get their best time & will just go-go
Just found your channel.. subscribed. Great video, I really like the format/intro etc. I bought the ultra for the same reason as you.. freedom.. yet still connected to the people who are important to us as well as having access to basic tech to make our life easier, such as Apple Pay/navigation/music etc
My ultra 2 has been great. I’ve left my phone home so much. Even took my watch to the water park in Virginia and left my phone at the Airbnb. It is very freeing knowing you’re reachable but you don’t have anything to use it for other than the time. Probably the best piece of tech out today.
So I’m upgrading my 11 pro max to the smaller iPhone 13 mini and pairing it with an Apple Watch Ultra. This looks like the best combination for me to bring down my screen on time and pointless scrolling! Great video!!
Very cool intro video, I’m just getting into photography myself! I want to work on productivity more and limit my distractions around me. I’m considering getting the Apple Watch Ultra.
Same reason I upgraded from the Series 8 to Apple Watch Ultra 2. For the longest time I didn’t want to pay for cellular but now I’m really seeing the value. As for the phone, I deleted social media apps because it was too addicting. Instead, I occasionally use social media through the browser on my computer, most just to keep in touch with a few people who still message me there.
Love the video! Do you think a regular Apple Watch could be similar or is there something more unique about the ultra? I guess I’m asking why ultra over a regular Apple Watch…
For sure! It’s bigger which definitely helps with typing. And it has cellular built in so getting a wireless plan is one less of a step, battery life is better too, but no you could do this on another Apple Watch.
This is the first video I have seen that actually makes me consider the Ultra.
Glad you enjoyed the video!

Don't forget to buy a good power bank for that overpriced apple toy😂😂😂

Thanks man and I am stoked it inspired you
“Sent from my iPhone” 😂
Here’s a reminder
get the watch it will genuinely help you use your phone less. Also coming from a 42 year old dad. This video is spot on!
brilliant! you have to spend more for Apple to usw your Phone less. And next year another 1000 $ iPhone to use it less.....stupid is as stupid does
This is a better commercial than what Apple managed to pull together in all these years combined.
That's insanely nice of you:) thanks for watching and the support.
This should be an apple ad
Takes a strong person to admit to their addictions, no matter how trivial they seem. You got me at that point in the video. I was with you the rest of the way. I am trying to leverage the watch and turn off the phone. Thank you.

Yeah it’s awesome when you can leave the phone at home!
That intro video is a work of art. It beautifully conveyed the kind of peace I've been looking for.
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video! Great tip!
Probably one of the best review videos I’ve seen in a long time. Seriously, dude. Such a great opener and so great to cut through the noise of all the typical review videos and talk about what this product does to create a FEELING.
Plus “Fix You” by Coldplay made me feel my feelings too… 🤘🙌
I appreciate it Matthew:) I wanted to put it in the intro video but it never fit in right.
Talking without music is underrated. Makes it intimate, like we’re having a conversation brother to brother. Subscribed. Best review I’ve seen, ever.

Thank you! Hope you love it
Dude I got a CAT S22 and just couldn't. I'm a Pixel user, but got the AWU2 for all the reasons you listed, and it's been the best way to disconnect because you keep all the things you need, plus most of the entertainment, without useless scrolling. Great video! Very happy I got to see it.
That’s awesome man, hope you’re loving it so far
How did you set up and update your Ultra? Other comments are saying it requires an iPhone(?)
Great video Brandon.... now will the whoop disappear from your other wrist???
Hmmm…. Not likely. For me they support each other.
Oh that’s so cool to hear man glad you enjoyed it.
You have no idea how awesome it is to come across this video. I’m planning on pretty much going phone-less in 2024 and the Ultra is a big part of the reason why I can even consider that. Just the right amount of connected that I need and it makes me almost excited to be able to be free from my phone!
Glad I could help!
This is exactly why I bought my Ultra 2. I’m so sick of spending every second of the day on my phone. I love still being connected but disconnected from all the socials. Also $10 a month for cellular is a steal. Solid vid!
Thanks McKay!
Wait, that’s for the whole phone plan right? Where I live I pay approximately the equivalent of $14 for my phone plan (calls and data) and that includes my Apple Watch plan as well. Get 32GB/ month and 300 mins calling any phone on any network.
@@Gooeybrowniebaby32GB seems impossible for a month, at least in the US
How do you mean impossible? Is it not enough to get by, or $14 is too cheap for 32GB over there?
(In the Netherlands we pay a €5 extra for watch cellular on whatever plan you and have. )
@@ericvergunst7275 I just think 32GB would only last most Americans a couple of days 😂 and also most companies here make you pay for unlimited data
I loved the intro. It inspired me to get out more. I’ve had my ultra watch for a few years and it also somehow has no dings or marks when many times I thought it would get one. I’m a union commercial interior carpenter too
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 yeah very surprised how well this has held up.
I seldom leave comments but here goes:
1. Fantastic intro, kept me hooked, looked beautiful too
2. Getting the specs out the way you did, nice
3. Having the courage to be brutally honest, mate, respect 👏
4. Actually gave a review that was, simply put, different
See you at 1 Million subscribers soon bud. Keep at it ❤
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you so much for the vote of confidence
Also love all the Melin gear, I might be more addicted to Melin hats than Instagram now 😂
That place is so rad!!!
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it! The brand is Melin. My favorite hats for sure it’s their Coronado Line
Yeah the true power is in the apps
Thank you this was an amazing video. I have the Apple Watch Ultra and I feel like I bought it for the same reason, to not have to pick up my phone every five seconds. I don’t do any social media so that’s not a problem but sometimes I’m just always looking at the face of the phone to see if I’ve missed a text or notification. I really like your video. It really spoke a lot to me about why I have the watch as well.
Glad it was helpful!
Agree completely! This is the one thing that always keeps me coming back from a garmin to ultra
Glad you enjoyed it
I have the Apple Watch Ultra (1st one) and this video popped up in my feed as I was looking at potentially switching to the Fenix 8, due to battery life and diving (without having a subscription). But this video brought me back to realizing a big benefit of the Ultra. I have a job where I'm on call, so I can't disconnect, but I love the Ultra allows me to leave the phone, but stay minimally connected via the watch.
Love it!
You hit the nail on the head. Apple Watch Ultra = Freedom
I too, like yourself have an addiction to my phone. Being now able to leave my phone at home and still be contactable in an emergency is a godsend. You’ve gained a new subscriber 😊
Thank you so much!
A flashlight and a camera is missing. Still have to bring my phone with me in case I have to take a pic, or record a short video.
It has a flashlight - but no camera for sure.@@dennishaughton4554
Wow. In all seriousness, you should be an inspirational speaker. I mean taking a piece of tech and making a statement about it in this way… wow. I rarely watch an entire “review” but I did for this and it was awesome
Oh man, thanks for such a kind supportive comment. And for watching:)
Beautiful video I’m wondering if this would still be his advice almost a year later.
10000% yes
Great video! Does the Ultra snag on clothing or feel so bulky when you’re doing daily activities like workouts that it moves around?
I’ve never felt that way personally. But that’s a mileage may vary kind of thing I assume
I love my kid, but god damn I don’t wanna sift through a million tik tok videos for that one cat video
stupid comment.
What a great way to describe how one can leave their phone and at the same time don’t feel anxious about not being connected. I’m gonna take your word for it, and go on hikes without my phone. That would really be something new in my life. Thank you so much for this, Brandon. And yes, I have liked and subscribed👍
Love it!! Let me know how it goes:)
Gotta respect your honesty in stating that you are addicted to your Phone!!
Thanks man. It’s super common but we don’t talk about it enough
Excellent video... that was the best product review I've seen. Thanks you Brandon.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you sir. Glad you enjoyed it!
this is THE review. Beautiful intro, no spec infos of things I already know and your honest opinion about it. Thanks man. Subscribed immediately.
I appreciate that!
Well I appreciate this comment immensely man. Thanks and welcome aboard!
Refreshing content, love your take on the ultra. It make so much more sense to me than any of the 1000 reviews I’ve wasted time watching that say the same exact thing. This is a video of true value. Thank you - I just bought myself the Ultra!
Awesome! Thank you!
Well I’m really happy to hear you enjoyed the video Matthew:)
I will say the phone has an advantage over the watch when it comes to maps because of the real estate, so if I NEED to go somewhere I never have, the phone is less stressful to rely on, but other than that, everyday is "everything but the phone" day.
loved the intro Brandon! refreshing to see something beyond the 1000th repeated spec sheet review
Thank you so much:)
Great video! Which band is that an 1:05min? Cheers!
It's two halves of two old nike sport bands. dark grey and light grey.
@@BrandonTalbot Thanks! So 41 or 45mm? Cause it doesn’t look too small on the ultra..

I'm upgrading from a AW8 to the Ultra 2... I hadn't thought about it actually REPLACING my phone for a lot of the time. Now I'm looking to do just that! Thanks for the video. It's giving me a LOT to think about... 👍
Give it a try!
Apple should hire you for the next commercial. Damn, that intro was stunningly great!!
Oh man that's incredibly nice of you haha.
Thanks Rafael, stoked to have you here:)
The effort you made for this video was epic. Keep it going and I’m sure I’ll be one of those guys that says “I remember following this guy before his channel blew up!”
Thank you so so much man that means a lot
Brilliant one! Just bought an ultra 2. In fact upgraded from Apple Watch Series 3.
Thank you so much!!! And that’s quite the upgrade!
@@BrandonTalbot thank you!
That opening ... best thing I have seen in weeks! Well done sir.
Thank you!
Brandon,
I wish they would!
Hey I’m only at the intro and this video, the first one I watch from your channel, and the quality of the video and what you say 👌
Awesome! Thank you!
Intro was awesome man, footage and editing was on point👌 Really considering it for same use, just wish they has a smaller version!

As a 29 year old tech addict, I relate. Got an Apple Watch Ultra 2. Thanks for the video, friend. Wishing you the very best
Awesome! Thank you! I hope you enjoy the watch!
As a 41 year old man myself I can relate to so many of your points…Never considered an Ultra before but this peaked my interest. I would watch more of your product reviews if you keep taking this “journey map” approach.
Thanks man I really appreciate that, I let me know how the journey unfolds
Just stumbled open your video while considering an upgrade to AWU2 for my Series 4 - you are the first reviewer who seemed genuine talking about the watch and your addiction, like a breath of fresh air. Gonna pick up my AWU2 soon. cheers mate!
Stoked you enjoyed it 🙏🏽
I had the light phone for 6 months and it was amazing but definitely a challenge at times. I had to go back to my iPhone 13 mini due to some limitations I had during a medical emergency. That said I felt so free and having a smartphone again is kind of stressing me out even without using 90% of the features and dumbing down the phone. This does seem like a good compromise though. Good review
Oh man I'm sorry to hear about the medical emergency.
That is awesome!
This is absolutely great! Thank you Brandon ♥️
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love it man!!!
Great dilemma to have I guess:) if you can read an actual hard copy instead of an app I’d say it’s probably worth your effort and experimentation:)
Good reason to have a Kindle. I keep one with me, and I have that for reading on instead of the phone.
Upgraded from a AW7. Do it. Just do it. As a first responder this has been a game changer.
Great video. Love the intro. I’m using my AWU more and more as a stand alone and leaving my IPhone at home. The only thing I miss is not having my camera and I no longer want to carry and SLR around
Yeah I always have my q2 on me
I loved this.
Thank you so much for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the video and it's stray from the norm
What? Self - reflection? It's all made up, it's fake.
I’m so glad to find a video that actually shows what this watch is capable of rather than just another spec video. Loved it!
Awesome! Stoked to hear you enjoyed it

So cool! Hope you love it
B*llshi*t, this is not a review???

So pumped you enjoyed it!

I feel this type of review is way more helpful than a theatrical rendition of a product’s spec sheet. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! And I plan on moving forward with these types of reviews

Thank you thank you. Glad you enjoyed the tone of the video:)
Such a genuine review. I love that you consider the family that matters in relation to the device, 2 thumbs up for not joining the saturated group of reviewers who just run down the basic reviews like every one else.

That is what I’m looking for. Thank you so much for this honest review. I just ordered the ultra 2.

Great review man! Best one I've watched in ages. I had the AWU and sold it to buy a garmin. Unfortunatly no cellular on Garmin which results in me having my phone with me all the time and using it way more than I should...
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it
Hey bro, thank you so much for the video, I’m 28 and I know how you feel. Now I need that freedom
Greetings from Colombia
Thanks for watching!!!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great job I am 51 and had phone addiction for years I picked up my ultra a month ago and I love it
Thanks Sebastian:)🙏🏽 glad you’re loving it
I enjoyed this video. As an outdoor enthusiast I was very impressed by the backtracking feature. I use All Trails and Komoot on my iPhone. I would enjoy seeing more details on what is possible on the Ultra.
The Hiking Guy does some really good videos!
Amazing video mate. I´m thinking of purchasing an Ultra 2, and I also have the over addiction, as I spend about 7-8 hours. Hopefully I can start working without phone.
Also, what is the best way to run outside, and still have music on the watch? Any specific app?
All the best!!!
I really like the Nike Run Club App
I’ve watched so many reviews of the AWU2 and this by far is the best. Great job! The intro was sick and got me hooked!
I just ordered a black AWU2 recently waiting for it to arrive and this is exactly what I would like to do; get rid of my phone addiction while still having access to the main things I need.
Insanely stoked you enjoyed it so much:)
I have not run into those issues personally.
First time ever in UA-cam, I saw person elder than me and wayyy more experienced. Opening about the downsides of mobile phones and embarrassed to say so about ur usage.
Love it that u are soo honest sir ❤.

Great video and just subscribed!! Picked up my Ultra 2 this week and it’s an insane upgrade over my Series 4.
I’ll be sending your video to a couple of buddies to help convince them this is the way to go!
Awesome! Thank you so much for the share!!!

This is what I was looking for! Now I will buy an Apple Watch Ultra 2!
My mobile phone addiction has gone too far.

Thanks for making this video.
I envision myself just owning an watch, an iPad and a iMac for working. Getting rid of the phone will free me from some screen time. Having an iPad will still offer me the opportunity to watch some of the content I want on my free time 💡
Glad you enjoyed it:)
100% agree - using it as a minimalist device!. For ultra runners / bikers - on your breaks/food stations you can use a portable fast charging battery pack; did this at aid stations at 50, 100+ mile races; technically you can do this at a ironman, but most people (understandably) want to get their best time & will just go-go
Whew that’s a lot of miles

My ultra 2 has been great. I’ve left my phone home so much. Even took my watch to the water park in Virginia and left my phone at the Airbnb. It is very freeing knowing you’re reachable but you don’t have anything to use it for other than the time. Probably the best piece of tech out today.
