PlyingKibbles89 Gaming/Plush This bell actually still works, I went there 3 days ago and yeah, it still works. You know, I was kind of hoping to find it on the ground to save it, lol.
Thanks! It is amazing that the bell has lasted for this long, I guess it will be replaced by a Safetran Type 3, same as all the other crossings on the line.
I've never seen a safetran type 1 being used in Australia! I thought they were all in the southeastern US! It's also unusual that those well cars were in 5 pairs with drawbars, and not articulated like their American counterparts! Those box cars at 11:14 was also a neat sight! how rare are box cars in Australia these days?
Pacific National still have a few box cars, along with SCT who have lots of them, but they are the only two operators I know of who use box cars these days.
Yep, there's definitely something not right about that bell. It's consistent, quite audible, and in working order... but damn, it sounds so, um, fuzzy? I'm so glad you filmed it! One of the only, if not the only, Safetran Type 1 in Australia, and that is AMAZING. Keep up the awesome work :)
@@McKHAust most likely a Siemens E-bell becuase thats uniform to the rest of the ARTC lines crossings, (DPTI manages the city section so that doesnt count).
Great catch with that Safetran e-bell, but I fear that it won't last much longer. That speaker is definitely about ready to die, and it sounds like the sound card may have taken a crap, too.
Thanks! The bell is actually quieter than it sounds on the video, so I thought it may be on borrowed time. Sadly it's probably the last Safetran Type 1 in Australia.
Great video! That type 1 general signals e bell doesn’t sound too well. It’s a shame it’s probably the last one yet, yet I still like the sound although too quiet
Excellent video! Its a shame that the Safetran type 1 bell is water damaged. lets hope if replaced, it would be a WCH E-bell but it would be a shame because it is very unique.
Thanks! Other crossings in the area have Safetran Type 3 e-bells, so that will probably be the replacement. Because these bells are rare, the signal maintainers may not know how it is meant to sound. As long as it is still making a noise, they may leave it in place until it dies completely.
I Have a Safetrain Type 1 Near Me, I'm Not Sure Which Line Though, But The one In This Video Sounds Kinda Shot Up. Also, The Horn on The Loco Sounds Interesting (I Know, It's an Australian Horn)
I don't know when these signals were installed, which would possibly give us an idea if it was a trial. I'm guessing it was a trial, simply because there aren't any more in the area. The signal maintainers may not know what these bells normally sound like, otherwise it could have been replaced much earlier. Wonder if they ever trialed a Safetran Type 2?
It’s certainly a possibility that the signal maintainers don’t know what the bell is meant to sound like. It would be interesting to know if there were any type 2s. I recently learned that ARTC used to use NEG incandescent gate lights although sadly they have all been removed.
Here's a follow-up comment for the ages. Finally got a Safetran Type 1. The reason the one in this video sounds so bad is because it is not getting enough voltage. I tested mine on a low 9V battery and it sounded exactly the same as this one, despite being perfectly healthy and sounding normal on a full battery.
There actually used to be a safetran type 1 in Pascoe Vale in Melbourne, but it got replaced by a general signals e bell in 2009
Nice video! I wonder how a Safetran Type 1 ended up here.
The first activation is shown at 2:20
I think you mean 2:24
Sadly the Safetran Type 1 has now been replaced with a Safetran/Siemens Type 3 electronic bell.
Yeah very sad :(
@@McKHAust But hey at least theres a lot in the USA that sounds normal
I wish they added a safetran type 2 e bell to make it different.
Now you need to be there when they replace it, so you can have it in your collection! Lol, great video!
PlyingKibbles89 Gaming/Plush This bell actually still works, I went there 3 days ago and yeah, it still works. You know, I was kind of hoping to find it on the ground to save it, lol.
I didn't know Australia had Safetran Type 1 E bells, I guess they must be very rare over there. They're not very common here in the US either.
Yes they are very rare over here, this is probably the last one.
McK&H Aust it is the last one, there were 2 on the suburban network but got replaced
I have never seen one in the northeast part of USA
@@VictorianRailHeritage 2?
@@VictorianRailHeritage i think you mean 1 because its at gaffney st pascoe vale
Never seen a ladder fitted to a crossing signal before, interesting find.
The ladders are a South Australian thing, most of their crossings seem to have them.
I've seen a two of those signals in Colorado.
And in japan
@@Hopen111YTNot in japan
@@damariscortes2126 Japan has ladders on their older signals sometimes
I had no idea Australia had Safetran Type-1 e-bells! Awesome! Sounds sick though.
Thanks! This is probably the only remaining Safetran Type 1 in Australia, doesn't sound like it's going to be around much longer :(
Gametrain Productions me either
Wow nice catch and vid! I never knew the Australia had safetran type 1 e bells!
Thanks, the Safetran Type 1's are very rare here.
Great video! Yea, that bell sounds a bit messed-up, like the speaker might be shot.
Thanks! It is amazing that the bell has lasted for this long, I guess it will be replaced by a Safetran Type 3, same as all the other crossings on the line.
McK&H Aust well it’s been a whole year and it’s still there today so they might not replace it for a couple of years
I was never aware we had a bell like that here in South Australia
I've never seen a safetran type 1 being used in Australia! I thought they were all in the southeastern US!
It's also unusual that those well cars were in 5 pairs with drawbars, and not articulated like their American counterparts!
Those box cars at 11:14 was also a neat sight! how rare are box cars in Australia these days?
I'd say there are more Safetran Type 1s up in the midwest and western US than in the southeastern US.
Pacific National still have a few box cars, along with SCT who have lots of them, but they are the only two operators I know of who use box cars these days.
Canada also has a few Safetran Type 1s

Hey Sir, if that bell is actually going to die, would it be placed to a General Signals E-bell?
It would probably be replaced by a Safetran Type 3 e-bell, or maybe even a WCH.
@@McKHAust most likely a Siemens E-bell becuase thats uniform to the rest of the ARTC lines crossings, (DPTI manages the city section so that doesnt count).
This is a good video. This crossing has a Safetran Type 1 E-bell.
Thanks!
I’ve never heard that type of bell
It is a Safetran Type 1 E Bell.
O
Great catch! Love that Safetran Type 1 E Bell!
Thanks :)
The Safetrain Type 1 sounds a bit off... and is incredibly loud.
This is the first time I've heard a Safetran Type 1 in person (and probably the last), but I thought it sounded a bit tired.
McK&H Aust There is something wrong... the normal Safetran T1 tone is still sounding, but is quiet and a much louder noise is playing over it
This is the last last remaining one

Surprisingly, the bell still works a year after this video. I went to that crossing today.
That Safetran Type 1 E-Bell Sounded A littlt Weird But It Sounded Cool Though
That’s an interesting bell
The Safetran Type-1 Electronic Bell sounds freaky! 😬😬😬😬😬😬
Yes, sounds like it will probably die soon, unfortunately.
Safetran Type 1 Bell? But why in Australia
Most of the equipment used on Australian crossings is imported from America, we don't make bells here any more.
Great video! That type 1 general signals e bell doesn’t sound too well. It’s a shame it’s probably the last one yet, yet I still like the sound although too quiet
Its a Safetran type 1 not a GS
The safetran type 1 sounds like it's dying

I still prefer the sound of a sick sounding safetran type 1 E-bell to a normal sounding safetran type 3 which sounds like ass.

Only Safetran Type 1 in Australia and it sounds dead!! Will probably be replaced by a boring Type 3 soon
