How to Adjust the Flush Water Level on a Modern Toilet System

  • This is a simple and basic guide on how to adjust the flush water level on a new modern toilet. This is for toilets without the traditional ball and valve system which are on the older models. Often, the water level will be set quite low, which doesn't give a particularly good flushing action. Or if you are on a water meter and are looking to save money you can set this as low as possible.

Brilliant. My cistern fittings look exactly like this so, aside from flicking the switch, which was far more difficult that I expected (I bent my nail and it hurt) - this was very straightforward and helpful. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this very informative tutorial sir. I just fix my overflowing problem. It helps me save money by not buying new apparatus and no more overflowing water bill 😂. my floater hit the flush valve so close that it doesn't even go up when full so it keeps on over flowing. I just pull back the floater so that it won't touch the flush valve and problem solved. Thank you so much for the idea 💡..., ☺️

Thanks for making your video -- it got me going down the right path even though my fill valve assembly was a bit different. I bought a HB60000 universal Fill Valve Assembly (black and white plastic) to replace the fill valve in my Jacuzzi Perfecta toilet (blue float and top of float valve cap is blue; rest is white). For both models, there's a small L-shaped square of plastic (red for Jacuzzi, blue for HB60000) which locks the upper shaft and lower shaft together. It sticks out perpendicular to the shaft, and the other half runs parallel to the upper shaft and under the upper shaft. Push down on the tab to unlock the shafts from each other -- it might be 1 or 2 clicks or it might just come all the way out. That frees the top shaft to rotate on the lower shaft on which it sits. Rotate top shaft (which has the float attached) counterclockwise which unlocks or frees the upper shaft from the lower shaft, then move upper shaft up and down on the lower shaft to adjust the height of the upper shaft and its attached float (which adjusts the water level). For me, the tab came all the way out although I think I could have left it in place instead of removing it. It's best to do this adjustment of the float level and upper shaft with an empty tank (turn off water to toilet and flush toilet first) or before you install the new float valve assembly because that float is really strong and once you unlock the shafts from each other, the float with push the upper shaft up strongly and quickly and you have to fight it to adjust it to the level you want. Also best to adjust the water level with the assembly out of the tank since it's hard to see and get your hands into the tanks to do this. Anyway, once the upper shaft and float are at the right height for the water level you want, rotate upper shaft clockwise to lock it onto lower shaft. Then put the tab of plastic back in (or if it didn't come out then just move it back upward into place with one or two clicks). Hope that helps someone since I think my float valve assembly design and model were different than the one in this video.

My syphon was letting water b into the toilet pan, it was a new toilet. Then I had a thought, if the water level in my cistern was just not high enough, the force acting on the seal wouldnt be great enough for it to seal. I used your video to increase the volume of water in my cistern, thus increasing the weight on the syphon rubber sealing valve and it fixed my leaking syphon. Thanks

I'm amazed to see so many positive comments about this filler, which to my mind is very close to being absolute rubbish. The lock switch is so difficult to shift you need a screwdriver, which of course you can't manage when the thing is installed. Despite following the video, mine continues to keep filling, even after it has supposedly filled and shut the valve off, wasting gallons of water. I deeply regret buying a "cheap" WC from B&Q.

I just bought a toilet and I have the same problem. It took me some time to figure out the problem. Unfortunately the over flow tube is cut too short which prevents me from adding more water. I think I can buy an over flow tube extender but this is crazy. The toilets should be designed to flush well with less water and if that can’t be done then go back to the way it was before. There is no water saved if that toilet has to be flushed 2 or 3 times to flush everything away.

best video I have seen so far - I have a problem which means that the water fills and it goes down the overflow pipe - the little plastic bag that surrounds the plastic part that is next to the stop cock is ripped and I am not sure if that might be the reason some how. So far I have taken off the post to get to the rubber seal but that seems to be ok,. The water stops rushing in fast when refilling but it is still steadily filllnig until it reaches the top of the overflow. I think I need buy a new unit or call a plumber - I am going to check rubber washer one more time to make sure it is working but it seemed ok

There must have been a change in design it seems your toilet has a slight change in the float also i noticed you don't have an overflow tube to prevent tank from over filling For those of you that have one you will have to extend yours or cap it off However if you cap it off you run the risk of having water run all over your floor if the shutoff float ever sticks

CHEERS MATE!! I will try this with my very similar design Tuscany dual push-button... These are nice looking toilets with slow/quiet close seats, but the flushing mechanism has cost me THOUSANDS of dollars each time that I have to call the plumber to unclog my drains in my multi-units after my tenants clogged it...
HEY GUYS, I have an easy idea on how to fix that overflow issue if you would like to get even more water in... Try the following, which I already know would work as a SMART/DEEP/THINKER/INNOVATOR as I...
Solution: Purchase a compression-type rubber fitting with rings that allow you to attach via fasteners... Now attach a 1" (I am guessing that the over-flow is around 1"-2" pipe, so get one compression fitting just slightly wider to go around the over-flow pipe)... Tighten up snugly... VIOLA! You have successfully extended the overflow by another 4-6 inches. So now, you can adjust the height of your water even higher up to around 2"-3" higher or 8L-9L (this also depends on how high the mechanism would allow for you to adjust)... VIOLA! You should now have an even more stronger flush after this mod, assuming that the mechanism will allow you to adjust the height even higher... I will try this idea, and I should make a video about it one of these days... Good luck mates and tell me how this idea work (it should/will work as I am rather confident, except the mechanism doesn't allow you to adjust that high as this is the only restriction)....

Thanks for the video. The problem I have is that the water does not reach the full water line because the float rises to the top too soon & then the water is cut off. I cannot adjust the float screw to let more water into the cistern because it has been adjusted as far as it can go. The design of the screw is terrible because the thread stops 3 3rds of the way up. Which means that the thread does not go the full length of the screw so it cannot be adjusted anymore than that.
So even on full flush the toilet does not flush the waste away completely & so we have to flush twice. (They call it a water saving model but it doesn't save water if you have to flush twice!)
We have had this issue ever since we had the new toilet installed less than a year ago & I miss the old one which was probably as old as the house (built in 1952!) They dont make em like they use too.
The only solution I can think of is to go back to the plumber &/or find a screw with thread on the complete length so I can adjust the water level. I dont know if there is one available as a replacement.
It's a Levivi Marbella toilet from Plumbing World NZ.
Do you have any good suggestions please?

If anyone find difficult to move the button as myself then better to tie some thing light heavy thing with the floater then it will come more water into the system to lift the floater but not too heavy thing otherwise water never stop to come in. • @Jimsathome
      @Jimsathome 5 років тому +1

The water level in the bowl is a result of the geometry of the trap, and there is no way to adjust it once the toilet is manufactured. Some low flush units don't have much of a water surface area, and the Bowl soils all the time. This seems especially true with a Caroma toilet - which we just installed. Our Pearl unit is a bit better, and an American Standard unit is the best we have in the family. We can't even return the Caroma as it only has a 14 day return at the distributor. We bought it before we renovated the Bathroom - and it took us a couple months before installing the toilet.

Allie Ho Jessica Nelson-Jones I turned the water off and used the tip of the screw driver to push it in to the right. You can't see how he did it in the video but I slowed it down several times and noticed that it looked pushed in. I couldn't do it with my hands like he did so I gently used the tip of my screwdriver.

I think you would adjust the float the opposite of what this video shows,so the float is lower and shuts off water faster.

My pin to remove the handle looks different. It does not come off when I pull it towards either side with a needle nose after removing the cap. Can anyone assist?

Did you really drive a screw thru the tank into your (now cracked) tile work?

I chalked this up to a bad fill valve so I bought a whole new assembly and replaced it.
