Hey Besties please advise
My story is like this:
I did matric 2019 I passed with 4 distinctions, 38 points and 75% avarage and I couldn't get into medicine however I got to Medical science in Anatomy in UKZN I did it for a year then I did internal transfer to Medicine it didn't work out but I got to Optometry while doing Optometry I applied for medicine everywhere and I didn't get in again then I dropped out in UNI and went back to high school to do Grade 12 (2023) because I had hope that I'll get to Medicine but unfortunately I passed with 5 distinctions, 40 points and 83.7% avarage which is not competitive in medicine unfortunately and there are medical schools I can't apply too because I applied before with my university results and they don't take a person with university experience
I'm left with UP,WITS,UCT, STELLIES,NMU only the others I can't because of university experience
Now looking at my marks I don't think I can get to Medicine I've been thinking about it ukuthi should I just go back to school yet again but now I'm too old I'm 22 and kunzima . I'm not opting to do a certain course and transfer to Medicine because I've done it before and it didn't work I don't think I have that energy
Honestly I'm drained and tired yet I don't want to do anything else besides medicine
Hey Svuyo. I’m so sorry for taking this long to reply, I’ve been held up with school work.
First and foremost, I’m so proud of you for all your achievements and as much as they haven’t granted you a spot in Medicine, you did really well. ❤️
This is a very tricky situation. I don’t think going back to matric for the 3rd time with 5 distinctions and such a good average mark is a good idea.
I think our best bet is for you to apply and see because as much as the competition in Medicine is high, it will depend on the competitors you have that year ( in your case, the Class of 2024) and you never really know.
Otherwise, I have quite a number of classmates who got into SU med in possession of degrees in other things. I know you are against this idea because of your experience but if I were you I would resort to something else in Health Science that you know will most probably guarantee you a job in 4 years.
I’m not saying give up on your dream to become a DOCTOR but you’d rather chase that dream while doing something related to it and knowing that if all else fails, you are a NURSE or PHYSIOTHERAPIST etc and you can carry your own weight. Opportunities will present themselves and no matter how long it takes, you can definitely accomplish that dream.
I hope whichever decision you make works out for you.
