    I’ve been happy with my 7950X3D since I purchased it. I use it as a 7800X3D for gaming and 7950x3D for productivity applications. However, since improvements in the scheduling software and mobo bioses of the 7950X3D I’ve noticed games performance similar for both uses now. This has been proven in other channels too.

    I upgraded my 7700x that I had oc to all core oc at 5.65 ghz to the 7800X3D. I sold the 7700x for $200 and paid $180 for the delta. I have an itx build, and the 7800X3D is ideal for no throttling itx build.

      It’s used to eliminate bottlenecks. Some games will be severely gpu bottlenecked with a 4070 ti/7900 gre so it would show a high end cpu performing the same as a lower-end one and would be a pointless comparison.

      It's a CPU test, not a GPU test. If you use mid-range cards obviously you'd want to just get a 7700X, but if you upgrade your card in the *_FUTURE_* then a 7800X3D will push your new graphics card higher. THIS is what these tests are meant to show you.

    While I think both are great gaming CPUs, in the UK at least I think paying that extra £40 for the X3D chip is well worth it in terms of staying power over the long-term. That would let you safely avoid the pressing need to upgrade to a 9000 series chip, and wait for the final AM5 series of CPUs as your future upgrade.

    I think would help to people if you guys do a round up with a couple of GPUS more to see the real diferences when there is less graphic power. Not with 42 games, just 8 games is more than enough.

    Which CPU is provides "better value" depends on one's requirements. For example, if you play BG3 on a 240Hz 1080p display at ultra settings, you "need" a 7800X3D to achieve the frame rate your monitor can reproduce. A 7700X won't get you there. Even at its lower price it, fails to meet your needs, so its value to you is a big fat zero. It's like being able to buy a 40-meter rope for $10 or a 50-meter rope for $20. The 40-meter rope seems the obvious better value until you need to reach 50 meters, a point at which a 40-meter rope might as well be 10cm. Even if the 40-mter rope costs only 12 cents, its value is zero if the required reach is 50 meters.

    Is switched the platform a half year ago. I went from a custom liquid cooled Intel I7700K to a Ryzen 7800K. I am still fighting whit it, and the constant change of BIOS is not helping me very much to understand how I can extract the most of the combo (DDR5 and CPU). But I still believe that this is the best PC gamer build in this moment. I have to mention that I play in 4K.
    PS - my 5800X3D is still the most trusted and reliable platform.

    While they are certainly more niche I would suggest adding more CPU limited games for testing differences in chips like this. Factorio loves the extra cache far more than slightly higher clocks because the workload is very latency dependent. Other games I know are generally CPU bound are the Total War games, Paradox grand strategy games and Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts.

      Sell that thing for the same price you can get into far better IPC. I had a 5900X for a while and it simply was inferior to more modern even 6 core CPUs for gaming. The good part is thanks to the 12 cores you can sell it for the same price you can buy a much better gaming CPU. Get $180-200 for it today and buy either a 5700X3D or 7600/7600X. Unless you really utilized those 12 cores for regular productivity stuff.

  • @cerevor
    @cerevor Місяць тому

    It seems that they have pretty much the same "bottleneck" or lack thereof for GPUs. It just so happens that in situations where the CPU can crank out more frames from a game, the 7800X3D benefits sometimes. Which means that if a GPU counts as good for a game and setting, one can go by that in basically the same way between the CPUs (which are largely the same, actually).
    It seems the 7800X3D mostly creates bloat frames that can almost be called "just for show", or like an ad to pay for it... (with not much substantial real-life change.) Indeed, one seems more likely to avoid a true bottleneck by getting an i9 or so (no matter how unfashionable).

  • @cerevor
    @cerevor Місяць тому

    Aside from anything, 4090 benchmarks are really not interesting (and omnipresent). It is actually more likely that both CPUs are bottlenecks there, than for any lower cards. And lower cards are after all what 98% will really use, so one should simply show benchmarks for that.
    I know there are very lame smarta** responses to that, but they are useless. What one wants to see is something actually relatable, not some weird bloat "phenomena" that have zero value as an argument for what to buy. (And as mentioned: both CPUs seem to bottleneck the 4090 from cranking out more completely useless bloat frames... As seen in some GPU utilization benchmarks, as they have literally the same CPU cores. That is why fitting or sane combinations are all the more relevant.)

    I’ve seen that now multiple times where the 78X3D pushes out slightly more fps in 1440p than in 1080p, how does that make sense? Does it have something to do with gpu utilization due to the x3d cache? Good benchmark btw cheers 🍻

    • @jakegoreify
      @jakegoreify 3 місяці тому

      1440p and higher resolutions are more GPU intensive. 1080p is more CPU intensive and benefits from the higher clock speeds rather than the 3d cache.

    For gamers it's either 7600x or 7800X3D. $200 7600X or don't bother with 7700/7700X as they are simply too close in price to the 3D at that point. The 7600X is regularly the same price as the 7600 so get the X if you have the cooling for it. 7600 would be better for those with a smaller form factor or running a lower end cooling solution.

With the 7800XT though (which is fairly close to the GRE), its basically a wash as the card isn't really fast enough. Their prices aren't that far away from eachother, so I recommend if you have the extra 60-80 dollars go for the x3d. If you are gonna go with 7700, learn how to do individual core undervolting. I brought my temperatures from 80 C to around 70 C with that. and buy a good water cooler, mine is msi's 2 fan model and it isnt good. Buy one with 3 fans.

    In case of Zen 3 the situation with prices is even worse, as 5800X3D is almost two times more expensive than 5700X! While in terms of 1% it is not that much faster either (especially with tuned RAM). Which makes 5800X3D a pretty bad value option.
    So I doubt anything chages in regards to pricing of Zen 4 chips. I mean, right now 7800X3D is actually more atractive than 5800X3D, compared to their corresponding non-3D chips.

    Every decision is a compromise between budget, use cases (apps, games), targeted resolution and performance. From all the games usually tested I own only cp2077, my favorite is TESO and I buy usually games when they get discounted. My monitor is at 5120x1440/120Hz (80% 4K) and with my 7900XTX I would like to hit the 1% lows close to that. If a non 3D variant gets the job done and is better in apps, why spend more money? Even my 5900X if often just good enough. Next decision is to be made when Zen5 gets out.

    Edit/Add-on: What I appreciate about the 7800x3D is that you can throw a cheap kit of DDR5 and it won't affect the performance much. You can save like $30 by buying a cheaper kit instead of having to buy 6000 CL30 to max out the performance of 7700X. A cheap kit of 5600 CL40 barely makes a difference on the 7800x3D.

    • @stangamer1151
      @stangamer1151 4 місяці тому

      True. But there is also another aspect about 7700X - if you OC RAM and tune timings, then the difference between theese two CPUs will be less impressive. 7800X3D would be like 8% faster on average in terms of 1% lows. So it would be really hard to discern these two models in most games.
      But the thing is, you may need faster RAM in future, when Zen 5 comes out. If you get 5600 MHz kit and 7800X3D now, you will probably need to upgrade not only a CPU, but also RAM as well. While if you get faster RAM now and 7700X, you will need only to upgrade a CPU later.

I'd be more inclined to go value for money (cost per frame) for any first generation chip on a new platform, then deviate from the value and go higher end on a future chip released for the socket. I did that with AM4, buying in on the R6 1600 to end up with the 5800x3d.
