    I love that you highlighted note length! People underestimate the finer details of the MIDI they input into a synthesizer so much. The selective layering is also such a versatile technique.
    Great video as always man!

    What I like about your videos is that you provide lot of information in less than 10 minutes. And they're still well structured. Keep up the good work.

    In FabFilter Pro Q-3, you can hit that little "A" button right underneath where you are adjusting the output level and it will auto make-up the gain for you!

  • @abelramirez7320
    @abelramirez7320 2 роки тому +3

    Make up gain when using eq is one of the most important things I learned early in my production journey. I used to always want to boost frequencies but never paid attention to the gain. I learned that all I was doing was just making the track louder. But you need to make up the gain whether you add or subtract frequencies to really see how the track fits in the mix. Nowadays I mainly find myself subtracting frequencies and raising the output of the eq accordingly.

    Using a “glide” setting is also another great way to add some variation or give an entirely different vibe.

    Yo, I was doing these but didn't realize these were actually pro things! Now I feel better about myself, thank you, bro!🤜🏻🤛🏻

    • @s.gharavi1614
      @s.gharavi1614 9 місяців тому +1

      Well, these are pretty basic ideas, not really pro level. Like note length and velocity differences, pitch bending, basic EQ, basic effects, layering are all the basics. That's not to say it's easy, it's not, and that's not to say that you shouldn't feel great about your accomplishments, you absolutely should.
      The idea of layering for transient vs body vs the tail isn't something that is separate from layering.
      But I think he did a great job describing things.

    •  5 місяців тому +1

      @@s.gharavi1614 Don't you think it gets to a point of min-maxing with diminished returns? I'm as amateur as they come, but what he did here sounds amazing, what are the other "more professional" stuff that could be done to make it better? Would it be significantly better or just a barely noticeable thing?

    • @s.gharavi1614
      @s.gharavi1614 5 місяців тому

      The issue is that the top teir professionals are constantly evolving with technology to be "better", while the rest lag. For example, 4-track recording was revolutionary, game changing studio technology that lead to huge "improvements". Can you imagine if we still only had one track? So what I am getting at is that professionals today, are going well beyond these basics in the studio. Whether it matters or not It really depends on the genre and the target market. If you're playing at a local club, it likely doesn't. And honestly, things are complicated enough already. But they're just going to continue getting more complicated, as they always have.

    •  5 місяців тому

      @@s.gharavi1614 Tell me about it, man. It's so overwhelming, I mean, Serum is just a single plugin among thousands, and I'm already baffled by the level of complexity and possibilities there. I think every area of human endeavor, be it music or physics or whatever is, eventually, gonna get to a level where a single human mind cannot comprehend what is going on, and then we don't have a clue what's gonna happen, but for now, as things becomes increasingly more complex, it's so frustrating, and honestly, demotivating to start things.

    • @s.gharavi1614
      @s.gharavi1614 5 місяців тому

      Believe it or not, everyone feels the same AT EVERY LEVEL of production. There used to be studios with experts in various production all working on their own elements, but now it's just the person or the band that has to know it all. I think the best approach is to realize that "good enough" means that it sounds good to you at the time. And then don't judge it by your future self. Even the earlier work of the greatest bands of all time usually have better production over time. It makes a difference, but it's not everything. Nirvana's Bleach was a $600 album with the roughest production, but it's fine. It's not as good as Nevermind, but that cost millions. But wasn't Bleach "good enough" for what they were doing? I think it was for the most part. And as they kept going the production got better. So, just do one song at a time. And believe me, I'm giving myself this same advice everyday.
