100% The 27SM radar should not be this bad....and yes I'm a masochist for the Flankers. As of this post I have 824 Battles, 56% Win, 514 Deaths, 1003 Kills....if the radar was as good as last patch I could see maybe mid 60% Win with 2.5 KD.

The thing that drives me up the wall with both the Su and the SMT radar is the TWS not locking the target it's currently tracking. I try to do a sneaky lock > launch > TWS > lock with long range R27ER shots, but it never works because the TWS simply refuse to lock the target I'm tracking.
The radar is easily the worst at top and even sub-top tier, it’s also bad irl but the thing is that irl it wasn’t even meant to be good, it was meant to just be there to be able to guide missile not to find targets without any info about em while ground based radars + combination of multiple Su-27’s radars that actually work as net + AWACS’s were meant to find targets and show it on data link screen with all useful information such as altitude, IFF, speed, distance and flight direction so the only thing Su pilot should do is to point its radar to the exact point where the target is and launch a missile instead of doing things like “RWR shows there’s a target, my radar shows nothing, should I spend another 7 seconds waiting for update at this altitude cause the radar just bad or should I increase radar elevation cause the target is higher and spend another 14 seconds to get proper soft lock and so on and so on”. We have none of these things in game so yeah … its radar almost useless Also the only kinda reliable way I found to actually lock targets inside ranges where the R-77 isn’t completely useless (inside 15km) is to lock the target using IRST and then switch to the radar. I literally don’t use radar at all in any other cases cause it literally works against me - I wont be able to find a thing while all nearby enemies will get info about where I am lmao, especially if sum it with the fact that the R-77 is completely useless outside 20km range and easily dodgeble without even chaffing/notching outside ~12km, it makes it even less “helpful” to use radar cause even if I will find the target - the R-77 won’t hit it anyway while again, all nearby enemies will get my position
Bad IRL? It was way more advanced than mig-29s (which really had BAD radar), su-27's radar, as I remember, was even better than f-15a's in terms of target size/range. Funny to hear that a bad radar had datalink. In the game we dont have rear search mode for radars. In auto mode the radar changes between head on and rear modes (the scan loop has 4 scans: 2 for head-on, 2 for rear) This is simply powercreep One day, when nato fans stop buying those F-5Cs and phantoms, they will eventually buff su-27

there needs to be more radar settings you can access to change PRF and manually adjust scan angles and stuff. It shouldnt be MANDATORY but it'd be a good way to reward people who put in the time to learn it, like manual engine controls

To be honest I had more fun in the smt than the 27sm, I unlocked a few days ago, and I was playing it stock, it was a pretty bad experience, the radar of the smt with the new r77 is ok in rb, you can kill 2 or 3 per match frecuently if you use terrain. Speaking about a competent plane for the ussr, I think we just need to wait at least. until the su30sm.

Thank you for saying they should of added a better version, it’s something I’ve said as well. The N001VEP is really just that bad, being just a ARH capability upgrade of the N001 which was abysmal even for its time. SM3 or even SU-35 would of been better choices (maybe with R-37M)
@alb9229 The reason I say the SU-35 is because Gajin gave us the albatross of a addition with the MiG-29SMT compared to the best non AESA aircraft they could of added in the F-16C-50. SMT basically has all the functions of the original MiG-29M, but with a worse airframe and 2 less pylons, so there was really no reason not to give us the MiG-29M Product 9-15.

There are already options for that. You can change PRF by default, HDN mode is HPRF (due to how soviets named things).

My tech tree in China doesn't go up that high.
Honestly I just use the EO in vertical scan/HMD to lock people and then switch to radar. Doesn’t give you range or heading but at least it locks.
