Thanks you! This video is so helpful and the use of the tool to loosen up the bottom is a lifesaver! I wish it was at the beginning of the video as it would have saved me time from dismantling. Thank you again for your tutorial
This video on garbage disposal remove and replace was very helpful, I was able to follow the directions and get my new disposal installed with a minimum of hassle.
Thank you! I traced a smell down to the cupboard under the sink and further down to the disposal. I thought, “Oh no! Now I’ll have to pay a plumber”. But after watching your video I realized even this over-70 female can replace her own garbage disposal! Yahoo! Thanks again!
You saved me a ton of money letting me know I could easily replace just the disposal, when Home Depot would have taken out my entire drain. Thanks for the easily followable steps and the confidence I could do this myself.
With your advice about using the wrench that came with the original installation, I was able to get the disposal working again. I can't thank you enough! 🙂
Thank you. Very helpful. The only other step I had to do was to punch out the plug in the dishwasher return since my dishwasher drains into the disposal. The instructions were on the sheet that came with the disposal.
Did you need to buy a new disposal gasket? And did you use any Plummer’s putty? I’m getting ready to replace mine this week and this video gives me a confidence boost 😂 just hoping I have everything I need
@@alexismarie456 Hi Alexis, Thank you for watching and your comment! In my case I left the quick lock mounting bracket (silver colored metal piece) in place. If you are leaving that in place you won't need to worry about the gasket or plumbers putty. In most cases the new garbage disposal mounting mechanism should match the old one, so the only reason you would need to change that out is if the sink flank also needed replaced due to wear and tear or you want a new finish on it. But if you are replacing that then yes you would put plumbers putty underneath the sink flange (this is the piece that drops into the sink opening from the top side) where is meets the sink and there is also a gasket that should come with the mount and that will go on the underside of the sink. Hope this helps... you got this!
@ thank you so much for responding to my comment! I think I should be ok then. All these little projects can seem so daunting, but you definitely have a good step by step that I feel confident 🙌🏻
@ turns out the model I had actually had a new gasket attached and the electrical was already installed so I didn’t have to move it from the old one to the new one. Even easier of an install so was able to do it in about 30ish minutes 🙌🏻 thank you for the tips this handy mom appreciates all the DIY videos!
Shitty 1/2 hp disposal. Shitty contious waste drainage. Love how you re-used the same old nylon washers! You DIY'ers are such hacks, its hilarious!! Oh yea everything's real easy till shit goes sideways and the real plumbers have to save the day!
That’s great, but! My problem is that the metal ring that sits on top of the garbage disposal unit, is not fixed to the garbage disposal unit, it just comes off. So how do you attach that top ring onto the garbage disposal unit, before you attach the garbage disposal unit onto the bracket that’s attached to the sink? I’ve watched about 10 installation videos and not one single person explains how to do that. If I tried to attach the garbage disposal unit with the ring the way it is now, the unit would just fall off, because that ring is not holding it up. You guys, you all try to make it look so easy, but you don’t give us every single step of the way and you don’t explain the potential problems you could have, and how to fix them. Not even the official insinkerator installation video shows us what to do if the ring is not attached to the unit itself. You’re all driving me flipping nuts.
Hello, Thank you for your comment and I appreciate your frustration. I've had the same issue with other projects where I was trying to watch tutorial videos to figure out how to do the job correctly. My understanding is the mounting bracket is already installed below the sink drain that the garbage disposal mounts onto, correct? Typically that metal ring that is attached to the disposal unit is already attached when you purchase it, so it's a little bit confusing why that ring came uninstalled. You may be best off returning the unit you have to the store and purchasing a new one where the ring is already attached. It's possible the unit you purchased may have been defective. I wish I could be more helpful, but it's difficult to know exactly what's going on without seeing your setup and disposal unit. Best of luck to you though!
The suggestion of using the tool to loosen up the bottom of the unit to get the motor running again just saved me over $100 - thank you!
Thank you for the comment and glad the video was able to help you!
