    Excellent review! 👍
    One note regarding the battery in the case. For me personally it is actually a HUGE plus that it does use regular AAA batteries instead of built in, as there are very few things as annoying having to recycle an entire product simply because something has happened to the internal battery so it cannot be recharged anymore (e.g. lithium ion batteries should never be fully depleted which happens if they lie in a drawer for six months).

    Another great review. I have what is probably a dumb question. Do you think I could use the Meater 2 to check the oven temperature (our oven is not calibrated properly and it is difficult to determine the temperature)? If not, do you have a suggestion that would allow me to, inexpensively, check the oven temperature?

    • @tomwadek
      @tomwadek  Рік тому +1

      The ambient sensor on the probe should be accurate enough to give you a good idea. Stick the thermometer in a potato to project the internal sensors. Move it around your oven to get different reading and then average out the temps. You can also buy an oven thermometer and that should do something similar. They usually go for $20-30

    • @GamingForTheRecentlyDeceased
      @GamingForTheRecentlyDeceased 11 місяців тому

      Stick it in a potato when testing your oven. The internal temp sensor can only go up to like 221f - 105c
      Potato will protect it without adding coldness to the external sensor

    I’d like to see Meater come out with stand alone ambient temp probes that I can place throughout my smoker to monitor temps. Just had another GMG temp probe go down in my pellet smoker and I’m getting tired of replacing them. They’re limited to 400F as well. Having a few stand alone ambient temp probes and Meater food/ambient probes, all monitored on the app would be a dream.

    I just got the meater 2 so I happened to stumble onto your chanel doing some research. I love the contet here. Super informative. Can you please cover on how you would tackle a revease sear for a steak with this probe? I only found one other video on it. Since the meater app doesn't offer anything in terms of accounting for a reverse sear. I am finding that that for the searing phase it is really easy to overshoot the temp since there is a delay. I am finding myself pulling it earlier than needed or not being able to get the crust I wanted. I would love to take the guess work out of it if possible. I bought this thinking it would make my reverse searing easier but, as I stated, I am still geussing on when to pulled it off the sear and have to use an instant read thermometer to confirm doneness. Thank you in advance.

    10:14 I’m confused and perhaps you can explain a bit more. You showed a disconnect message when you moved out of range. Are you saying here that you can be disconnected or not updating and not know it? Does the app really not alert you sometimes when the sensor disconnects or stops sending updates? That’s a huge deal.

    If I have seen this correctly - you can see all probe temperatures in a graph in the combustion inc App but not in the Meater App, which only seems to show one graph? - that would be a big downside for the Meater (in my opionion). Imagine you would like to stay in between parameters (not too hot, not too cold), you could archieve this by lower ambient temperature and longe cooking time. You would not be able to see good data on that with the meater probe. If your meat is a little bit dry on the outer Layers, you could see your temps throughout the cooking process, so you could better adapt your cooking method.

    For precision BBQ smoking the ambient temp feature is useless. General cooking, too. Meater itself says it only reads the ambient spot temp at the sensor. While an analog oven temp showed 375, the ambient reading never went over 330. So, what use is it?

    The functionality of the Meater plus is very good but the quality of the charger is very bad. Stopped completely after using is for only 22 time’s. After contacting support I did some test with them there conclusion was that it was broken and I had to pay for a new one because I did use it for more the 2 years even I did only use is 22 times which was registered on my account. Had it for a few months... still cook better without it though. A few comments:
    -The external sensor - it's slow and you cannot rely on it. Eg. Put a rib roast in the oven @500 for 20 min... when the timer is up, the sensor will only be still climbing into the mid 300's.
    -Connection seems fine as long as you have to block close
    -I've deep fried with it... it still functions normally.
    -App... there is no start button to your cook, just once you set up the cook in it, it starts. I'd prefer to be able to set up the cook, then start it once I actually put the meat in or whatever.

      Good point. FYI, oven temps are not accurate. All ovens lie. The thermometer is measure the circulates air at the point of location. That includes any moister or vapor. It’s common to see large discrepancies with any thermometer. You will also see a similar delta in a bbq grill.

    Meater 2 its a total crap! Its Algorithm is not precise at all! I set Target Temp on the Ribeye at 56c and when it reaches 50c it asks me to Remove the Meat from the heat. I immediately remove the meat from the heat and it continues cooking it far further than the 56c Target I had inserted at the beggining. It keeps cooking during the Resting period and at the end when it says Cook Done its already 65 degrees, overcooked and for the bin. I paid 100 Euros for this piece of junk metal with Wifi capabilities. Crooks!
