FYI. You can add custom alerts in the Meater app. That means you could have put one at 95 and/or 100 to pull off the PR and monitor the internal temp while bringing the grill up to a sear temp. I just learned that trick and it is a game changer for things like this and time to wrap, etc.
I'm using my meater 2+ for the first time now, and I am not having an accurate reading of the ambient temp. Right now its stabilized to around a 15°C difference, but in the beginning it was as much as 25°C. Im using the Thermaworks ChefAlarm to measure the ambient with a probe at the grate right next to the Meater 2+
With any wireless meat thermometer you are going to have the ambient temp off until the meat starts to warm up. since the ambient temp sensor is attached to the internal sensor it draws the cooler temp from inside the meat to the ambient sensor. Its just a flaw that all wireless thermometers have so youll just have to know early on that your ambient temp is probably higher then what you are seeing.
@@SmokestackJoes and the ceramic zirconium insert (separator) can't separate the external sensor? And it's also interesting, somewhere I saw a comparison of the accuracy of external sensors on such wireless thermometers and TempSpike showed itself best. Perhaps its sensor is installed at the very end on the end of the probe, and in others it is closer to the meat.
So...just a follow up on my last comment. I received some Amazon gift cards for my birthday, "free money", so I bought the Typhur Sync probes. I absolutely love them. So handy. I reach for them before my wired Thermoworks probes 90% of the time. We'll see how the lift span thing goes, but highly recommend. Thanks for the review!
No problem glad you like the review. The sync is just so easy to use and having the option to be able to run out and still monitor the cook is a game changer.
I don't know if it was available when you made your video but there is a single probe version of the Typhur Sync I picked one up for $79. Economical option to get the wifi native to the unit.
Sent my Typhur back for a replacement unit as the probes were way off. Supposedly they were certified as accurate, not in any of my testing. Ice water to boiling, way off. Hopefully the next unit will be better. We shall see.
Excellent video! I do have a couple of additional points, though. You mentioned that the Typhur has an advantage in that it comes with 2 probes whereas the Meater 2 Plus comes with only the one. True, but the Meater App handles up to 4 probes so if more than one is desired, they can be added. And yes, I know it will end up costing more, but it can be done. Also, the Typhus actually comes with either 2 or 4 probes, again, for more money, of course! So yes, the equivalent capacity will cost more for the Meater than the Typhur ... agreed. There is one problem with using multiple Meater probes that I don't like. The probes are identical and are not labeled with a number or anything like the Typhur. That makes is harder to keep them apart when grilling multiple cuts of meat. Myself? I bought two Meater 2 plus units mainly because of the thinner probes as I often grill thinner cuts and they mess up the meat less. Also, I personally like the Meater App user interface better. That, of course, is only personal preference.
@@SmokestackJoesjust a note about the probe diameters. The Typhur Quad probes are smaller in diameter ( 4.82mm) than those in the Typhur Sync 2-pack (6.1mm). That also makes them even slightly more slender than the Meater 2 (5mm)!
Thanks for that info. I just got the new Typhur gold to try out (new video will be coming soon) but the probes are much smaller then the previous model
Out of curiosity now MEATER have came out with the Pro XL (the new block) with the wifi capability. Which would you choose? if you've seen or had any experience with one i believe the probes. I'm torn between the new Meater Pro XL or the Typhur sync Quad. Thanks Elliot
The typhur is great. Its on the more expensive side but if you can get a good deal i would go with that one. I dont use wireless thermometers that often but when I do I am always using my typhur
Great video! Was very well put together. I like how you showed the apps in detail because that is a big deal for a lot of people, including myself. I bought the meater 2 plus and then found the typhur 100$ . Im very torn on what to do. Lol ..... I still haven't even done a cook.
I'm glad it was helpful. Honestly whichever one you go with will be fine. If you want the capability of being able to monitor the cook anywhere over wifi without the use of another device, go with the typhur, plus you get 2 probes with it.
How do these base stations work when outside with the smoker in -35f and how well does the probes send out signals through the walls of a steel insulated smoker
With the Typhur Sync base, can you view the ambient temperature? And can you set a low and high ambient temperature benchmark? I don’t have a pellet grill, I have an offset and that would be very helpful for me
In the Typhur thermometer app, can you view the temperature of each of the five internal sensors? Or is only one temperature shown (the sum of these five sensors)?
After using the Typhur sync the built in wifi is such a great feature. Being able to just sync the base to wifi is awesome because the range becomes a non issue
@@Bigheadedwon I asked Meater support if they are planning to offer Mater 2 Plus Block, and they said "The MEATER Block will be getting a refresh in late 2024".
dos the typhur have both high AND low (downward) alarms on the meat part of the probe? or just final target? the meater does, via the alarm button. but brands like thermo-pro do not.
Can you confirm one way or the other? Coming from the meater, I just assumed they all would. But so far the meater is the only one (I’ve found) that does
Do either of the apps show the individual temp readings for the multiple sensors within the probe? Or do they just use all of the sensors to give you 1 temperature?
@@SmokestackJoes I just found out today that Typhur's latest software update brought something called "Pro Mode" which does indeed show you the streaming temp values for all of the sensors in the probe. I tested in a glass of hot water and it's freaking awesome!
I’m going to say this based on this review, this is probably better than the Meater Block. The Meater Block, and I have several units, has been nothing but trouble. In multiple units that I have I must add. Customer service with Meater (apption labs) is absolutely horrible! So if Typhur’s customer service is better than Meater, which shouldn’t be difficult to achieve, then I’ll roll with the Typhur.
if you link the Meater through a separate device then view on your phone via email, can you adjust settings via you phone or do you have to go to the separate device to make adjustments?
Can you have more than 2 sensors linked in the Typhor app? Looks like it only supports 2 sensors, max. The Meater app supports 4 sensors. Is my understanding right?
