My son who is an active Duty United States Marine, bought me a lethe for Christmas 2019. I have tried to watch your channel every day. You have taught me a lot. Thank you for your service and teaching me all I know at this point. Keep up the good work. Semper FI.
Wow!..that was fast!..delivered Monday..setup and a video on Friday. Beautiful christening of the new toy!..thanks for the shout out and yes.. you ABSOLUTELY deserve it.👍🏻👍🏻
Rod, you deserve all the praise and thanks we can give! You are a Veteran! And a Marine Veteran at that! We cannot thank you enough for your Service! Then, we see this warrior create these beautiful pieces of art in wood! And, of course, you have that great voice! Rod, to watch your channel is a gift of sight and sound! Thank you, and Semper Fi!
R Humphrey Rod, we are a military family. My dad fought WWII in the Army and then Army Air Corps as a T. Sgt. He was up for Warrant Officer when he chose to come home in December of 1945. My Father In Law was a 20 year Navy Chief. My husband was up for First Class when he left the SeaBees at the end of his hitch. My Brother In Law was a First Class in the Navy when he was mustered out because of ALS. The military didn’t want me. I could only sing and play the piano. I was a Music Ed and Music Performance Major! So, we salute all military Vets! Thank you!!
at the moment it doesn’t seem to matter what i do my body resets me back to anxious and i have to consciously work to regain some calm, returning to the second half of this video, listening to your words and appreciating your art, keeping the bark and saw cut... and knowing that you are caring for yourself, getting the tools you need to work better... a calm has finally come over me... you wipe the work with denatured alcohol, you sand... the piece is slowly revealed.... this experience is a very positive one for me, watching you create and explain the process. it’s very enjoyable.creation is everything.
My friend, I'm very glad my videos are a source of calm for you. To me, that means I'm achieving that same feeling through my woodworking, and it's translating through the video. Thank you so much for telling me so. It's a very harsh world out there, with everyone going through their own set of circumstances... I've learned to remind myself of that, about the person I'm dealing with, talking to, driving behind, helping me at a store, etc... To be called a source of calm is a high compliment, and very much appreciated.
I love that when I click on wood turning videos the content creator is almost always nice and does an amazing job of explaining what they are doing or have done in the video. It's also amazing to see you supporting others within the community. It's so wholesome to see you and others like you sharing the love around.
Congratulations on the new lathe. As for being blessed, we are all blessed even though none of us deserve it. Thankfully God does not give us what we deserve. He gives us His grace and mercy. Thank you for your service from an old army SSG. May God bless you as well.
I just subscribed to your group today. My Father was also a Marine. 4th Division wwii he survived several beaches and taught me a lot about life. I was not able to be a Marine because I am a little handicapped so I put in 29 years of civil service with the Fighting 55th US Airforce. Thanks for your service and dedication to wood working.
I love watching your videos. Usually wood turning sounds are very abrasive, but not here. The way it sounds when you turn, your calm voice and how the wood shavings come at the camera, it's all very soothing.
It touches my heart that you mentioned 2 of my favorite wood working/turners! The 3 of you really encourage the creative side of me! Beautiful work! All of you.
Beautiful piece. Kim is a great person and wood turner. She has helped me out a lot in advice and watching her video. The same goes with you Rod, you have taught me a lot. The wood working community is full of get people.
Very beautiful bowl. Sny person who puts their own life on the line for our country deserves a million times more blessings than you already have. God bless.
just love your work - fascinated by the process, i am in textiles. i have been crocheting for 50 yrs. i currently am making afghans for children and give them to Clothes For Kids in Denver. I LOVE IT.
Semper Fi !! To paraphrase the Marine’s Creed; “This is my lathe. There are many like it but this one is mine. My lathe is nothing without me. I am nothing without my lathe........” 😁
Excellent! Warm crackling fire, new lathe, workshop retreat, exercising the mind, fine tuning the craft and the reward of a wonderful piece. Every day is a gift. Semper Fi
I like the combination of rustic and smooth finish. I'd fill that bowl full of pine cones and acorns and wild flowers then set it in the middle of my dinning room table where everyone coming into my house could see and admire. It lovely. Good work.
Absolutely beautiful! I love the story this bowl tells- like it popped from the log with just a little coaxing to show off its colors and patterns. Lovely as always.
Semper Fi! Love watching you work. I wish I had the spacefora lathe, but I live in military Quarters and have no garage or other space fora large shop. I do what I can with a small storage room. Thanks for your service from an old retired army engineer.
I love watching your videos. I work nights. It gets quite repetitive, though I have started watching your wood turning on my breaks. I wish I had a garden to put a shed in. My dad has a lathe but I've nowhere to put it, and I doubt my lovely wife will let me have our small conservatory! 🤔😄 Amazing work!!
Wonderful to watch someone enjoy creating something beautiful. Beautiful lathe, enjoy it in the best of health we all expect lots of new videos using it. Blessings.
MR.Humphrey the wood burner look toasty and warm.Nice larhe this bowl as always you the finest wooden bowls .Its a joy to watch you take wood and turn it into such beautiful bowls.🤗🙏🙏❤❤

Congratulations on your new lathe. I hope it lasts for many years. That wood grain is absolutely gorgeous. It's chaotic and mesmerizing. Semper Fidelis Brother.
The "deserving" comes from the "gratitude." I don't think it can happen the other way around....than you for your generosity of time and knowledge, and letting us join you in your doings. God bless you, too! Oh, and yeah...nice lathe! :-)
Great to see the new lathe and a new project. The grain on wood always amazes me, with the many asymmetries and colors. Very nice piece you made, and the chain saw marks are just a reminder of the TLC you put into your work. Thank you for the peek at other people's work!
Beautiful work Rod. You are a true craftsman. We are all deserving of good people in our lives. I look forward to your videos every week. Keep up the great work!
Beautiful bowl, Rod. The grain is spectacular. There's nothing wrong with leaving the chainsaw marks. They're part of the wood's history. Phil Anderson does it a lot. Also, you deserve everything good that comes your way.
Welcome Back! Glad you got your new machine. I hope you are doing well now. Its amazing! Love it! You deserve it. You've given our country a lot. Now its your turn to receive. 👍
I really like your treatment of this piece, Rod. From the bark and semi-natural edge to the chainsaw marks and the beautiful finish, it's a winner! I know you've been out in the shop just caressing that new lathe. Who can blame you? All around great video! Phil
My apologies Phil, I sure meant to mention your help as well. I've added you to my video description. Yes... I may have slept next to my new lathe this past week... lol Thank you very much!
Hello Rod wow the life and chatoyance in that grain is awesome. Congratulations on the new layth I pray that God will bless the two of you with magnificent and spectacular new pieces. I cannot wait for it.. Semper Fi dear Rod.

I was a little apprehensive when I heard your idea of leaving flat spots and chainsaw marks---but I absolutely loved it! Rugged beauty combined with honesty. A wonderful bowl. Thank you, as ever, Rod.
Ya finally pulled the trigger! Congrats on the new lathe - major heavy puppy! Really nice grain inside the bowl. The only kind of people who wonder if they "deserve" it are those who absolutely do. It's the ones who think they are entitled who don't deserve. You? Top of the list Rod. Enjoy.
Good god, that's beautiful! Thank you for sharing it with us. Congratulations on the new lathe, it looks like a big, sturdy, lovely machine. I imagine it will be a faithful partner in your creative endeavors for years to come.
Fantastic first piece on the new machine my friend. I love how you challenged yourself to step out the box and stretch your legs. What a wonderful and very unique bowl. The craft needs to be expressed in all its potential to rise to new levels of art and perfection. I bless you and your new machine to be fruitful and multiply in every way every day. May you find more than you ever dreamed and share it with a world that is desperate for new ways to love, in Jesus name amen.

Being humble is a quality that can't be faked sir. I'm jealous of that beautiful lathe, I'm in the middle of re-conditioning an old Craftsman lath and like you feel blessed and lucky for the life I've been given. That bowl is beautiful but I could of never resisted the temptation to polish the outside of it as well. I'm OCD though so overlook my failings.
I am so happy for you to be the new owner of a new Powermatic Lathe! I have a used B model and it is serving me well. I think you have the same light as me. If you are interested I can share how I mounted mine. Many Blessings for you friend!! CD
Welcome back, Rod and many congratulations on receiving your new lathe. You could hardly have chosen better than a Powermatic. You've made a great start with this project. It's just beautiful and has given me a few tips for next month's competition at my woodturning club which is for a natural edge bowl. The committee have asked me to stay out of competitions for a few months to give others a chance:-). Semper Fi

Brilliant! Really like the chainsaw mark - definitely a more authentic/rustic look. You don't know how it'll look until you try. And you deserve the new lathe. I strongly believe in the notion that hobbies are meant to be done to excess, otherwise they'd be chores.
Very nice lathe. Congratulations. I'm in envy. And for it's first turning that is very nice too. Thank you for sharing. My day is made when your video shows up.
You do some fantastic work I cant wait for the next project. I can't tell you how much I have learned from just watching you turn these projects. Please keep up the good work, God Bless form Ky

LOL, I'll bet it does! I started with a Harbor Freight bench top, cut my turning teeth on it... Thank you very much!
Brilliant! Really like the chainsaw mark - definitely a more authentic/rustic look. You don't know how it'll look until you try. And you deserve the new lathe. I strongly believe in the notion that hobbies are meant to be done to excess, otherwise they'd be chores.
That is a wonderful philosophy that I believe I'll embrace! Thank you!
Stunning bowl both rustic and beautiful you nailed it. Thank you so much for sharing your skills. Good luck my friend and happy turning.
Much appreciated!
Very nice lathe. Congratulations. I'm in envy. And for it's first turning that is very nice too. Thank you for sharing. My day is made when your video shows up.
Very kind of you to say, Glen! Thank you!
