    The cutoff was the same issue I was having. Your motor is drawing more current than your battery can provide so it is shutting off to keep from killing itself. Thats why when you turned the current up it shut off. For instance my motor draws 30amps max where as my old battery didnt provide 30 so if I revved too high it shut off

    • @andykirby

      It's not a battery cutoff it was instantaneous phase current error on the phaserunner, they are known for this problem.

    4000 watts divided by 72 volts is 55 amp your current limited by the batteries I do realize this was a test but for that current youll need 6 parallel to keep it safe unless cells are rated at 20 amp constant then you can go 3P. Your also current limited by the XT60 though rated at 60 amp they will heat at 30 amps heat is voltage sag along with current loss EC5 can handle 40 amp constant and stay cooler than XT60 but totally your choice on what you use. Now the wire not sure what your using but OFC pretinned is best and at that current 8AWG wire is not always convenient so back to the OFC pretinned. It can handle a bit more current than non-pretinned wire 10AWG high temp would be best that gauge wire will suffer some loss but short as possible will help and the high temp skin will keep it safe. The battery for high current like this .4mm thickness x 8mm wide nickel strip will barely get warm at 40 amps, you can still touch it with no issue.
    Just thought ide toss this out there so you can get the max power and efficiency from your bike and batteries and keep it safe as well.

    Looks like each balance wire is actually connected to two cells. So the measured voltage of one cell is actually an average of two single battery cells in parallel. One of those cells could be really high internal resistance. So it is possible to overcharge one and not completely charge the other but appear to be ok as averaged. Ideally you should measure each single cell. It will probably be fine though.

    • @andykirby
      @andykirby  4 роки тому +1

      Yes I saw that big block, looks great, I’m wondering what it’s like on the handling because it’s mounted on the swing arm so you still have unsprung weight like you do with a hub, it must be much lighter than a hub though...., it would be better mounted off the suspension. the thing I like about the Bafang Ultra is the all metal gears and the fact that it’s a very neat installation once you find a suitable frame, other thing is you get pedals so it’s good if throttle only ebikes are not allowed in your country. I’ve been doing extensive tests at full power with 4000W and it doesn’t get above 55 degrees which is just crazy. I think it would easily handle 6KW.

    Very interesting motor/controller. I know the earlier Bafangs used 63volt caps in the controller - do you happen to know what these use - that would set an upper limit on the short-term power capability - that and the gears of course.

    • @andykirby
      @andykirby  4 роки тому +1

      The Bafang controller has a max of 60V. I don’t think it’s just because of the caps. Here I’ve removed the Bafang controller and I’m using a Phaserunner instead.
