Great video. Just bought the same card. Thanks!

I am currently watching this tutorial for installing an rx 580 for my laptop lmao, still a helpful source of info, thank you for making this vid Keegan
😂😂😂 I didn’t expect people to use it for laptops. appreciate it!
yeah, now my laptop will have a purpose for the following years to come haha
@@DrSnackCake5 I mean, a laptop with i7 8550u can run the MSI Rx 580 with 3 fan.

Hey man, have you ran the system on long hours gaming? I'm thinking of getting the rx590 Red Dragon due me to finding a good deal on it. Worried about heat issues, don't really mind noise tho. I plan on running it on a msi b450 tomahawk max with a r5 2600 and 8gbs of 3200mhz ram which i do plan on upgrading to 16gbs
sideways137 yes I have played on it for long periods of time and I have also mined on the card for days in a row. No issues
sideways137 as long as your case has good air flows and you’re not OC-ing your card, it should run fine, even on long hours
@@eugenejuliuscaliva4056 what if I want to OC it?
sideways137
If that’s the case then firstly, you should ensure that your case has enough fans. Not necessarily the most, Just enough. You can search Linus’ fan optimisation to see how many you’ll need.
When overclocking, it’s basically trial and error when overclocking it. You can use afterburner and set up the maximum temperature you’re comfortable for your gpu. With this, it will limit how hot your gpu will run so you won’t have to worry about it overheating.
To ensure the best results, you’ll have to maximise temperature control in your case through the fans, like what i mentioned earlier.
Hope this helps!!
Very nice video
Great video! I was just wondering what cable you use because I built my first pc with this and I plugged it in the the vga cable but it did not work when I turned it on, any ideas on what to do?
I typically use hdmi or display port. It should theoretically work with any cables. Just make sure the cable is plugged into the gpu and not the motherboard. A lot of people have made that mistake. If you can somehow install the drivers for the gpu, that should fix the issue.
Thank you very much! I’ll try this first thing tomorrow
I have the same RX 580 and the drivers update won't take it keep freezing on me. I even started all over with a new SSD so everything should be new but the card won't update frustrating ASF
Hi nice video. Y have a 1050ti msi and i was wondering if its a good choice or not to change My Card with this power color red dragón rx580 what do you think?
seujiro hiko it's a decent card. But I would save up another ~$50 to get more well know brand rx 580.
Keegan yes i understand your point, how long have you been using it? and do you think its worth right now un get a rx580 if i have an 1050ti?
seujiro hiko depends on the games you play. If you aren't playing any demanding games I would wait a little longer. But if you are playing new and upcoming games, I would make the switch to a rx580 or even a gtx 1060 3gb card. They are around the same price and will give similar performance.
Keegan ok thanks a lot for your advice, and how many watts do you use with your rx580, i have co Evga 500 bonze
seujiro hiko your 500 watt should be fine
If you already had a AMD GPU before such as a 560 like I did and I upgrade to a 580 would I have to do that uninstall process?
I think I was able to swap between a 570 and 580 and it was fine. But best practices you should.
Just curious, did you install win10 in the legacy or uefi mode?
Lonnie Beal uefi mode
I have never messed with anything in my pc but do you think if I buy this card and watch this video do you think I would be able to switch my old card with the new one or would it be too difficult rn my pc is running amd 200 series and I want to upgrade
It depends on the CPU you have in your computer. If you are running something like an older i7 you should be fine for an upgrade. I had an i5 3570K running the RX 580 and it was still chugging. If you have an older AMD CPU I really don't know the equivalent models because I've been a intel fan boy up until a year ago. I'd say yes if you have a good CPU upgrade the gpu. If you have anymore questions let me know!
Keegan my pc has a intel i7 2600k i was just worried because I’m not sure if the installation of switching graphics cards would be difficult I don’t know anyone who could set it up for me so I aint sure if it would be easy to switch or not appreciate the reply by the way
Benny White no problem, switching graphics cards is pretty easy should be able to follow this guide and to install the new one. There are a few steps though. But still easy. Let me know if anything comes up.
@@DrSnackCake5 appreciate the reply the problem i got now is that my pc might only have 6pin would that still work with the AMD580 or would i have to buy a 6 to 8 pin adapter? sorry for asking so many questions i dont know much about computers
Benny White if the card is an 8 pin. You need an 8 pin cord. If you have two 6 pin cables. Then you can get an adapter. Those are the most common ones. If you don't have two 6 pin cables you might have to get a new power supply. If you have anymore questions don't worry, computers are very complicated.
Thanks bud
I know almost nothing about computers so forgive me if this question sounds stupid. I got the RX 570 version of this card from powercolor, do I install drivers from AMD website or from the Powercolor website or both?
Aythe from AMDs website
@@DrSnackCake5 Ok thanks, also what are the drivers on powercolors site used for
Aythe most likely their version of AMDs driver. AMD makes the chip for the card. Same thing goes for Nvidia. That is why everyone says to download AMDs or Nvidia drivers.
Does this card makes a lot of noice? And how about temperatures? This is The cheapest card that I found to buy. 1060 6gb or rx580 8gbs why?
Antonio Maria both cards are essentially the same tier. Some games will be better for the 1060 than the 580 and vice versa. They are very similar in performance. The RX 580 from power color is a good option but it's really loud even with a fan curve. If you have the extra $20 to spend, get a gigabyte 580 card.
The temps get to ~85 c
Keegan thanks for the advice! I will look for the cards. Maybe it’s worth a bit more cost for the noice for me
Antonio Maria yeah if you want a better quality card I'd spend a little more

Is rx470 good or is rx580 powercolor better? For my processor
I would go with the rx580. It might bottleneck the cpu but you will still get better performance.
Is i5 4th gen and rx 580 a good match or will it be bottleneck?
BLUDKING it’s a good match
Does it have cooling problem on baseclock and base cooler RPM?
I wanna run this Card compared with a ryzen 5 2600.
The games I want to play are league of Legends, World of tanks, Csgo. 1080p
stuff like that.
Will this GPU getting too high on temperature?
Mike Habscheid this card will run those game just fine. But you will have to adjust the fan curve to make the fans less noisy
@Keegan so you mean that i have to set the rpm lower?
What if I don‘t mind those noises?
Mike Habscheid then there are no worries
Keegan thanks alot man! 👍
can you share the bios please? i need to revive the same card. Thanks!!
Unfortunately, I do not have this card anymore. There should be a website that has bios downloads. This card also has a duo bios switch. If you can’t get it to work. Your card is bricked.
Do you need to buy the 8 pin connector or it comes with the card?
Praveer Naujeer the 8 pin connector should come with the power supply. Please note that there is an 4+4 pin that is meant for the cpu. 8 pin is usually a 6+2. If you don’t have a 6+2 cable on your psu you will have to get a new one or an adapter for your current one if it supports a gpu.

Can you help me on how to clean uninstall drivers on amd and i keep getting bsod whenever i reseat the card
Jose Licardo you would need to install ddu which is in the video. The whole process is in the video. After downloading and extracting ddu. Restart your computer in safe mode. Open ddu and pick the amd video card drivers to uninstall. Pick clean and restart button. Once done cleaning it will restart automatically. Should be good after that. If it still not working. You need to reinstall a fresh windows. That's what happened to me. And it was really frustrating. You might have to reinstall windows a couple of times to get it to work. Hope that helps
Keegan thanks ill get into when i get home and i have xfx 580 with gigabyte aourus mobo i know this is dumb but are they compatible
Keegan and do i need the ddu or can i use the amd cleanup utility
Jose Licardo I would used ddu it's super simple and easy to use. Yes your xfx card and mobo are compatible. You could stick any gpu on any mobo as long as it's a pci-e x16 or fits on any of your other lanes on the mobo.
Keegan whats your discord so i can messgae you. Whenever i still get problems
I just bought a b35 tomahawk mobo and ryzen 5 2600 combo deal. But after i bought it i read some forums that i might need a boot kit just to update the bios before i can install the 2600. I hope that's not the case but if so i will just get the boot kit i guess.
If the motherboard box says ryzen 2000 ready then you don't need a boot kit. Most B350 motherboards come with ryzen 2000 ready out of the box. Shouldn't need to worry about it!
It will be a sticker on the front of the box that will clearly says "AMD RYZEN Desktop 2000 Ready"
It hasn't arrived yet so i can't see the box just yet lol. I guess i will find out the errors of my ways soon enough hehe.
yt3374 it won't be hard to get the new bios for the b350. There are plenty of guides and tutorials if they sticker isn't there
Got the mobo today. It does indeed say "ryzen desktop 2000 ready" i installed the CPU and cooler. Just waiting on the RAM now to boot it up. Hope it works.
If you didnt have a graphics card before do you have to uninstall anything. Probably a stupid question but I'm new to this lol
Not a stupid question. You do not have to uninstall anything.
Can you tell on the card what is that little switch used for ?
Madmartigan its a dual bios mode. So if you into overclocking and want to be risky and modding the bios to get better performance and you end up bricking the unit you have a backup bios.

@@DrSnackCake5 the i5 8600k
El Matador nice CPU! What could be happening is that you're plugging the display into the motherboard and not the gpu. If not could you tell me what's plugged in where
@@DrSnackCake5 thanks man. I plugged it into the gpu first since I didnt have the dvi to hdmi cable needed to connect it to the motherboard. El Matador when you have your gpu installed to the motherboard and you plug in the display cable (dvi/hdmi) into the motherboard it won't display anything because the motherboard knows there's a discreet gpu installed. If you have your gpu installed and plugged in the display to the gpu it should work. If it's still not working let me know. We could chat about it over discord or something in about a hour.

Hopefully someone can respond as soon as possible, I'm upgrading from rx 480 to the 580. I'm pretty dumb when it comes to PC builds, would I still need to uninstall the GPU 480 drivers if I'm upgrading to the 580? In my head I'd say no because its still AMD and Radeon but I need someone who's educated with Pc builds to answer
Ian Olsen yes you'd still need to uninstall the old drivers and download the new ones
Reason why is because it's not the same card. If you insert the new card it might work yes but you'd be losing performance because the drivers still think you're running the 480 (even tho it might recognize the 580)

Can we only put 6pin instead of 8 pin
No, if it is an 8 pin you need an 8 pin.
Do u have to do this when u get the GPU?
iAmOptimaL depends if you are building a new computer or not. If so no, but these are the best practices when upgrading to a new gpu
Oh ok thx bro
Good video man thanks for the help. Although you should face the psu down since it’ll be blowing hot air towards your gpu, which might mess up with its temps
The PSU isn’t blowing hot air towards the cards, its sucking hot air from the case. Its a good way to suck some extra hot air from your case if you have a good guality PSU that you trust can handle a few extra degrees without being noisy or having some chinesium 60 degree rated caps.

John Cena honestly after a month of gaming. It's a good card for the price. It's up to par with the 6 GB GTX 1060. If you are looking at price to performance this card is a good choice but if you want reliability go for a more well known brand like Gigabyte or Asus. I haven't had any issues with my RX 580 but that doesn't mean anyone hasn't. I was worried when I bought this card it would be faulty or would have a short life. That has yet to happen. Akrabi I would say so, but if you can save a little extra I would get something a bit better
What graphics card is a bit better
Akrabi gigabyte 580 or if you want to save a little more get a gtx 1060. They are more quiet and not use as much power as 580 cards
My computer everything downloads fine but when I go to restart it it turns off but everything is running fan etc but my screen won’t turn on any help?
Turn the power supply off. Then turn back on see if that helps. If not it might be an issue with cables
Keegan fs I turned it off and on and just trying to install again you know which cable it might be
DteLuis what is it trying to install
Keegan the gpu drivers
DteLuis sorry little late on this one but make sure you’re downloading the right drivers. What gpu do you have?
Do u still use this gpu still?
DarX Nightcore yes I was playing borderlands 3 on it the other day
Keegan I really like this gpu, but it’s just really loud.
DarX Nightcore I know - you can make it a bit better if you have a custom fan curve
I also have a modification on it too. I unscrewed the fans and put a thin foam pad in between the fans and the heat sink where the fans get screwed in.
my system shut down in game with this video card, 16gb ram and 650w power, and is on low video setup
VelaVentura all of the drivers updated?
Is there a diffrence between this (powercolor rx 580) and the asrock rx 580 8gb?
Edit: the price is same
Can we hit 1000 subs So i can brag at school Different shroud and heatsink. But other than that they are the same card.
Keegan do you think i should get the powercolor one or the asrock one ?
Can we hit 1000 subs So i can brag at school I would get the power color because I like mine even though I need a fan curve on it at all times. But it's up to you. You might win the silicon lottery or you might not.
Keegan do you by any chance know the max clock speed with this card?
Can we hit 1000 subs So i can brag at school I got mine up to 1450 MHz but haven't tried to go much further
What if you got WinRAR 😭😭
Did you overclocked it to 1450 mhz?
Ryle Ibañez I over clocked it, not sure how far I got though to be honest. Been a while since I have used this card.
@@DrSnackCake5 Did you also overclocked the memory? Because I want to overclock mine from 1750 to 1950 mhz which is pretty stable but I am afraid to brick the card especially I have found out that this variant of RX 580 from Powercolor does not have a proper cooling at all on its vrams
Ryle Ibañez you can use a software called afterburner to test the mem overclock of you don’t want to brick the cars. Plus this card comes with a dual bios switch. So if you did brick the card you would be fine.
@@DrSnackCake5 ooh ok thank you but is i possible to place a heatsink on those vrams like a copper heatsink on top of it?
@@ryleibanez2012 You could try - I would try a heat pad.
I was considering a similar setup, Good thing I found this Video. The Bottle neck is worst than I imagined.
Upgrading to a Ryzen 5 is much better
@@DrSnackCake5 would a r5 3400g be okay for this
xd diggers yes that would be perfect
@@DrSnackCake5 Great thank you
Keegan what about a ryzen 7 3700x with rx580 would that apply as a bottleneck? Sorry for the dumb question
is it really 256bit???
Yes it is. It is in the model number.
does anyone have one of these in a dell optiplex??
David Stancu if you are going to plop this into a dell optiplex, it isn’t gonna work. You’ll need to get a better power supply minimum 500w
@@DrSnackCake5 well I have a 750w installed the issue is space
David Stancu what optiplex do you have
@@DrSnackCake5 9010
@@DrSnackCake5 its a 9010 and anything over 10 in wont fit
Hi, I am having a huge problem with my PC my gpu is bottlenecking my ryzen 3 same one as you the gameplay experience is HORRIBLE please reach out to me to help me it would be SO appreciated
Matthew Kirk what gpu do you have?
Same exact system as you except the the RX 580 I have is Strix
Matthew Kirk I would return the ryzen 3 if you can to get a Ryzen 5. Since this video I upgraded to the ryzen 5 1600 which I got for $120 bucks at micro center. There is a newer video on my channel with gameplay so you can see the boost in performance. If you can't upgrade right now. I would recommend overclocking the ryzen 3 to 3.8 - 3.9 ghz and ~1.37 volts with the stock cooler
Thank you so much for the help
Matthew Kirk no problem, I hope that helps you out. Thanks for the sub man I appreciate it!
is it loud
MJSLXY S1 yes it is, with the proper fan curve I could be better
is it bearable and does it pick up on your mic
MJSLXY S1 depends on many variables... mic quality, type of case, using the fan curve, types of games you play. Honestly spend another ~$20 on a more familiar brand like gigabyte or Asus you'll probably like that way more than this thing
Keegan can you see a difference between the two
MJSLXY S1 the difference between the power color card and something like a gigabyte card? Gigabyte cards are belt with better materials, it doesn't feel cheap and it's a very well reputable brand.
Noice
Is it very loud for you too?
RavenClaws yes it is. See your other comment to make a fan curve
Got the 590 version for 190
Vikram Timsina that's a very good deal!
Keegan 590 is actually pretty good because I got 2 free games as well
Vikram Timsina where did you get iy
Hey why is this version of the card much cheapier than the others?
jose gabriel .hontanosas it’s not made by one of the main brands. The card is heavy but feels cheap. Really loud but fixable. It’s a RX 580 though.
@@DrSnackCake5 How to fix the loud noise??? you said something about msi afterburner??
also my right ear is lonely :(
Sparky it’s a software that allows you to monitors the computer and allows you to customize the fan curve for the gpu.
I fuckin' screamed at the monitor when I saw you put that heavy ass card in there and just let it hang while you reached for the screw. NEVER DO THAT!! That's an easy way to rip the PCI-E slot off your motherboard.
Place PC on it's back and click it into the slot gently, then tighten the screw. If the GPU is heavy I'd recommend buying a support bracket for about 10 bucks. But never install a beefy GPU while the PC is standing, and never let it hang completely off the PCI-E slot! The only time you should ever let it hang is if it's a Mini, and even then exercise a little caution.
I buy graphic card like you, but why i can mot instal the driver?? I need help, this is my graphic card, red devil RX 570 4gb
StevenFrans 34demonfx are not able to install the driver from the website? Or where do you get stuck
@@DrSnackCake5 i already patch the driver, but i just instal the old version(patched) the problem now, driver or amd setting can not control the all fan, all fan is not move
StevenFrans 34demonfx you should uninstall all gpu drivers on the computer using DDU (display driver uninstaller). You can find it on the web.
Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 580 Graphics Card I am getting no display
LightSport Man stupid question, do you have your cable (hdmi, display port, dvi) plugged into your card and not the mother board?
AXRX 580 8GBD5-3DHDV2/OC just bought it 2nd hand for 100€
Tadej Danev hope you like it!
@@DrSnackCake5 gotta mount it :)
Can i send a pic of my pc to see if itll run the rx 580 bc idk much pc's im only 14
As long as you have a psu (recommended 500w+) with a 8 pin connector and you have a pci_e slot (recommended to have a pci_e 3) then your good. some require to connectors like the red devil by powercolour. Oh yeah and check what your cpu is because it may be weak which would bottleneck the 580.
