Honestly the 3770 is still a good cpu, I donated my old PC to a friend and it had a 3770S in there. It's unfortunately unable to overclock but when paired with the 1060 I gave him it still is a perfectly acceptable 1080p gaming machine.
Good CPU? Even when overclocked it loses to modern i3's. But i guess since it was a donation, your friend is still lucky to have that PC. You are a good friend.
@@angrysocialjusticewarrior but the price difference is still quite a lot with the i3s being a lot more expensive.
@@justjosh871 The latest and best i3 ever produced (i3 12100f) is much cheaper than buying an old secondhand i7 7700k even though the i3 is significantly faster.
I'd say the old i7 3770 can be bought for about the same price as the i3 2100f if you find a good seller.
So no we have established that a much faster i3 is actually cheaper than trying to buy an old i7, lets compare motherboard prices. Since the i3 uses very little electricity, you can actually pair it with the cheapest h610 you can find. And an h610 will be significantly cheaper than a used Z170 that is usually sold along with the i7 7700k or the Z97 that usually comes with the i7 4770k.
Now that we have established that even motherboards for the i3 are cheaper than the ones suitable for old i7's, lets now compare ram prices. in 2021 I had to buy 16 GB of ddr3 for my old system, and in 2022 I had to buy 16GB of ddr4 for my new system. Both ddr3 and ddr4 were around the same price even though the ddr4 ram was almost twice as fast as the ddr3. The ddr4 ram was made by a company called "Patriot" and the ddr3 ram was made by "GSkill".
So since we have established that all parts from a modern computer are actually cheaper than try to buy old used parts, only one question remains. If someone has an old i5 or i3, is it better to only upgrade the cpu to an old i7? Or is it better to change your whole system and get a new setup?
In my opinion, if you are someone who knows how to sell parts on the internet like on ebay, or if you are able to sell your computer to a friend or something, you might end up being able to buy a new i3 + new motherboard + new ram without paying more money than you would have paid if you did not sell anything and only upgraded your cpu to an old i7.
Also, the new i3 supports windows 11. Windows 10 will no longer be supported by Microsoft in 2025, which is going to make your i7 useless (even if you try to sell it in 2025, you are going to get very little money).
But if you are someone who doesn't know how to sell on ebay or to friends, than its cheaper to just upgrade to an old i7 if you don't have money.
@@angrysocialjusticewarrior so i am trying to build a pc for light gaming and some office work and i am just going to be buying cheaper parts and i am looking up prices for older cpu’s such as the i7 4790 and i am seeing that this i7 is a lot cheaper than the i3 used, what cpu do you think i should get, i am going to be getting a gtx 970 to pair with it. i have made a sheet of the parts i am going to get and the one with the i7 is £289 and the one with the i3 is £400 just with different mobo, cpu and ram.
@@angrysocialjusticewarrior got an i5 4570, its way easier for me to slap a i7 4770k in there rather than going through the hassle of all that you mentioned

i had this actual setup about 3 years ago. it still handled pretty much all my games in 1080p 80-144fps.
That CPU cooler is worth a lot by itself. Noctua coolers (and fans) are things of beauty, they're efficient, quiet, even the fans last for a really long time, but the coolers will basically last longer than you do, and Noctua releases conversion kits to allow you to keep using them on newer motherboards. Sometimes they will send those conversion kits to you for absolutely no charge! :O

Impresionante, this could be the minimum requirements for 2021 for modern games easily. 😎👌

System ideal for a lot of the popular free online games Fortnite, Apex, Valorant, Team Fortress 2, Zula, Paladins, Csgo etc. Most people just do not have the money for top spec kit. These videos educate such people that a low budget is fine!
You should do more CPU bound tests, to expand the channel to CPU tasting aswell
I had pretty much this exact set up until early 2020. Still have all of the parts sitting behind me. It can definitely still hold its own in modern games. The only difference between my set up and yours is that I had two 970s in SLI. But otherwise, same CPU and GPUs.

One of my friends used the same combo until he got a 5900X. He said the CPU didn't disappoint him, he could basically play everything he wanted.
These 3rd and 4th Gen i7 and i5 CPUs can still be a good deal for a budget esports machine if you can't get something like a Rzyen 3 3100 or 3300x.
Best budget cpu is r5 5500 for only 120€ and only haveing to buy and 60€ mainboard

Yo nice video kryzzp. Can you do also a i7 4790k paired with a 1080 or smth. That would be nice.
finally a pc testing 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm getting by with a 970 at the moment (albeit paired with a 5800X). It still does a great job in most games at 1080p. I did find one where I think the 3.5GB VRAM thing causes problems though, which is Detroit: Become Human. It'll run smoothly at 1080p/60fps when you first start it up, but the VRAM usage creeps up over time and when it gets to around 3.5GB the performance goes to absolute crap, as in sub-10fps and bouncing around like crazy. I assume that's because it's hitting the slow portion of the VRAM. Haven't found any other game which exhibits the same behaviour though, including games which report similar or higher VRAM usage. It's weird.
Hmm... Weird indeed, I never tested that game but it sounds like it has a memory leak issue
Yep that's the issue of this card. Can't exeed 3.5gb of vram.Better to stay betwen 3.2-3.3 Other than that it can run rock solid at 1500mhz on core clock and beyond if you are lucky. My ex 970 gigabyte (3fans) can run firestrike/timespy at 1550mhz
Hey Kenway. I’m planning on a new build but want to retain my old gtx 970 for the time being.I want to pair 12600k with the 970. Since 5800x and 12600k are similar, I wanted to know if there’s any bottleneck that you notice since the graphics card is not powerful enough to keep up with the processor.
The only issue I see at this gpu is the vram. If it had 6gb it would be a beast.
Just overclock your vram and limit your frames (in the nvidia control panel) to 59 FPS.
Limiting the fps prevents the faster ram from boosting the game beyond 59fps. This forces the faster 3.5GB to slow down and thus making the speed difference between the 3.5 and 0.5 much smaller.
And the fact that you overclocked your vram means your slow 0.5 is even faster while the 3.5 is sill being throttled by the fps limiter.
When you combine those two things, the stuttering disappears. limiting fps is is very important. And the higher you can get a stable overclock on your vram, the closer the 0.5GB will get to the throttled 3.5GB.
I discovered this trick years ago and I maxed out many games to 4GB - 4.05GB without stuttering.
Be careful though, the vram chip of the 970 gets hot pretty quickly. The more you push the vram, the hotter the card will get. If you don't have strong cooling, the card will automatically disable your overclock to avoid overheating. The stock fans on the GPU itself will need to be ramped up to 100% when gaming, so remember to set the fan curve while overclocking.
Also, having a big roomy PC case with good cooling will help a lot.
You know it's a banger
This is the set up I’m running although my i7 isn’t overclock. I’m in the process of building a new rig with a threadripper 3970 and an RTX 3060. My old rig is still running strong and a beast of a computer
that was a very good deal considering what the board/GPU is too!
This was amazing benchmark for an entire pc especially these old beast from 2012!! Hope you could try i5 3470 benchmark in the future. More power brother
I would love to see gtx 970 in your rig and then test it. Basically a video on gtx 970 only. So we can see its performance without any cpu bottleneck.
I have a gtx 970 in a Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB and SSD. I am getting from 44 - 60 fps with custom (medium high) Settings since updated 1.3, 1080p. 80-130 fps on destiny 2 with high settings. I'll only upgrade when I buy a new monitor. This gpu is a beast.
thanks for listening to my suggestion!
These are amazing machines. Just sold my 3rd gen i5 with a 960GTX, 12gb of ram and a new 250gb ssd for 370€. Loved it too the last bit but I got a good deal on a lenovo pre built desktop 🙋🏻♂️ which software are you using to measure the fps?

Try saving a bit more for a 1030 D:
@@AygonZiru I wanted to buy that one but the prices of the GPU went up. Now it costs ₹8,000 or something like that
@@cooladdictiongamingpoint2175 still you wont be happy with a 730 in the long run the 1030 is more than double the speed consider to save your money or look for a used 750/ti or even 1050/ti its way faster and even if the 730 can do something we are at the start of next gen in 1/2 years it probably cant even run any newer games at all anymore and old ones cut support as well (its your decicion but sometimes its better to wait instead of regreting it in the long run) edit: look for a used rx 550 they are a bit slower than 1030 but cheap if you can find one

Gave me confidence with 10100f + 1030, later to have GPU upgrade
Very solid and cheap CPU that i3, it has my respect now after testing this old beast as it's faster :)
The 10100 is a little beast. I had one paired with a 5500 xt and it runs really well.
I used a GTX 950 to tie me over for CSGO and WOW Classic ... I did upgrade but i really didnt need to . Surprising what you can make do with.
my first pc was similar to this but was a i7 4790 and a 970 and it lasted me for over 5 years and the gpu eventually had a heating problem where it got to hot so i ended up upgrading
My literal setup hahah
you know that you should change thermal paste on your cpu and gpu every 1-2 years? i still have a 3770k and gtx 970. CPU temp stays below 55 and gpu below 65
I am more surprised with the GPU performance than the i7.
I need to remember to sell my GTX 970.
If you are from bulgaria I can offer you 70 euro(or 140bgn) for it.
@@megaslayercho Thank you. I am not. I also already sold it.
Yo your freakin good at these games bro haha
This was really unexpected...
AWSOME,....... FPS THAT PERFORMANCE OOMMMMGGGGGG
For me, it's still enough for some time... sacrifices must be made only by using the flight simulator
Damn
Portuguese people has the
G.O.A.T of benchmarkin our boy kryzzp
And the G.O.A.T of football ronaldo!!
G.O.A.T=Greatest Of All time
my old pc im using from time to time powered with i5-6600 and msi gtx 970 ram 2133mhz 16 gb is still alive & kicking, pretty much decent gaming at 1080p on mid high settings on really demading games.back in the days was good enough especially if cpu was i5-6600k but still now this old lady 970 can play most of the games.
After owning the i7 4790k for 4 years i started learning about computers and decided the CPU. It made a 30 degree Celsius cooling difference.i can overclock on any air cooler to 4.6ghz easy.i used a metal liquid thermal paste for the delid.try it.it is vastly improved.
Could you also test gpus with blender? Just let it render a demo scene and show the result. Would be very nice for blender users
Hmm, something to consider 👌
Yeah please
what is blemder
