    Hi, I just wanted to share another situation I encountered today, it looked like it was the quantity control valve. It was surging real bad almost to the point where it wanted to shut off. This was on a Freightliner Coronado DD13. We just added it to our fleet so I really did not have any work history on it other than it is a 2012 with 343K miles. So I took a different route filled a 5 gallon bucket with clean diesel and it ran perfect. So I am currently trying to to find where exactly my problem is. I have isolated it from the fuel filter housing to the tanks is where it is. Just wanted to share my story. And I actually did plug in a new quantity control valve saw it had same issue so I put the old one back on. Again thank you for all your information you take the time to share with us.

    i want to share my experience on my dd13 2017. i was having these codes 520268-16 and 157-16- low pressure code, check engine light was coming on and off. After doing this test i had about 100 bars different which according to this video is a lot. i was told to change the rail sensor, the limiting valve or the fuel high temperature pump. i changed the quantity control valve and my surging went away and testing have maybe 3 bars a part, now. just keep in mind that after replacing valve you need to prime the system and replace o'rings for your fuel lines. take your time doing it, enjoy the experience and have all your tools ready and careful not to strip the small screws from the control valve and you will ok.     I have an isx 871 that surges when coasting only never at idle if I pull out of gear at 30mph rpm starts surging then when I stop nothing at all would you have any idea ?

    Appears to be very common with these new dd15. Owned 3 of them and all of them had this issue

      Not the coolant temperature. The coolant temperature was getting up to temp fine. On this specific truck I was having problems getting the after treatment up to temperature- the DOC, DPF, SCR. That’s because fuel is used to get those to temperature and they were not getting the proper fuel amount.

    Did you have to remove the fuel pump bracket all the way?

      No, I remove the two 13 mm bolts or nuts (I forget what they are) under the control valve, and the two I think 18 mm bolts holding the black bracket up. Once it’s loose I just move it out of the way so I can get to the last control valve bolt.

    Is there a similar part for the Detroit 60 series.

      I would assume so but I’m not sure. I don’t really work on any of those.

      There isn't. They have unit injectors running off the camshaft. No high pressure rail.

      I had a similar problem on my Detroit series 60 after I had the wiring harness replaced there's a sensor on the EGR tube that was deleted however found out later the ECM also had to be reprogrammed I spent thousands of dollars trying to fix the problem that you're having I'm sorry I forget the name of the part but it's on top and it's triangular on the EGR tube

    I have idle stumbling problem with Detroit 60 series 12.7L 2003. RPM goes up and down in low idle but it is fine with fast idle. Does Detroit 60 series comes with the quantity control valve?

      It does not have a control valve like this but it has a small fuel not hard to change but would definitely check for sucking air somewhere (bad Oring or line) have also had a injector shorting out and cause this issue

      I've had trouble for close to 3 years now. Been to so many shops dam near bankrupt. Every time it's the same codes. Every time I take a heavy load uphill it pops codes have to do a regen at top of hill derate to 55. Always nox con low. Poor Def quality. 25% derate nobody can find out what's wrong been told to do delete or replace one box. Light load or different route with less hill climbs no codes I'm stuck any help, ideas?

      @@Thorsrival I would have to have more information to really give you any useful opinions. Sounds like a tough issue.
      If I had to guess from what you said, it sounds like there could be an exhaust leak that only leaks when the pressures are higher in the one box due to the heavier load and higher demand going uphills.
      That would be my guess. Look for any signs of soot near the exhaust clamps or on the heat shield of the one box. Other than that, I would have to see some freeze frame data and see every single code that comes active.

    I just had my Control valve changed on the DD15 and it is still doing it! Why?!

      Make sure you have no obstructions in your fuel supply. Today I had same issue I got a clean 5 gal bucket with clean diesel made that my fuel supply source unplugged fuel line that would normally run from the tank and also unplugged return fuel line, so I have both hosed in the 5 gallon bucket and the surging stopped. Apparently I have obstruction somewhere from the fuel tank to the filter housing. Still trying to figure it out. I am coming across alot of like thick slimy stuff and some stuff that looks like tree bark. I'm thinking maybe at one time somwone used a tree branch to check fuel level or something. Still troubleshooting. Hope this helps you.

    I replaced that valve, problem gone for couple days and started again, any idea what causes that problem?

      Hmm the only thing I know of is that valve going bad itself. I don’t know of anything else causing the valve to fail.

      That's for egr motors you probably have non egr since it's a 99

    I had that problem on a Truck I purchase. I had the check engine I use some Lucas oil fuel injector cleaner after a week The check engine wen of and surge wen oway lil by Lili. Tha hapend wen you drive on a entry tank all the time you get all the dirt from the pimps in the sistem
