    LOL the 3rd demonstration in the beginning made me laugh so hard for some reason! x'D

    Yes slightly but not 90 degrees otherwise you make a side kick instead and you get the problems I demonstrated in the video. Good luck :)

    There are a few differences which i will explain in the spin back tutorial which is currently uploading. But in advance, i will tell you that the spinning back kick is so much stronger if done correctly. It will be up in just over an hour :)

    This is my most favorite kick during sparring. Add a little hop for some explosive motion and it'll catch the opponent pretty off guard.

    This is my favorite-get-off-me kick when I spar. I am usually smaller than than my opponent so they always try to maul me. You were absolutely correct about having that knee in close to the body. I had so many issues with that when I first started using this kick. I especially like your segment on using the wall as a training aid...perfect. Thank you for sharing, another awesome session.

    This tutorial helped me a lot, I have problems with this kick and yes, I have read and watched tutorials, but they've never helped me that much; when in practice, I get frustrated easily due to my own stress- what if I'm gonna fail it all, even my own brain tells me 'Oh look, everyone can do it better than you!' And may give up or do everything with anger which harms my focusing. Now that I have pretty good image of what I should be doing, I can't wait for the next opportunity to practice.

    Great video Mr. Gassor. Your technique is excellent. I think that the back kick is driven more by gluteus maximus while the side kick is driven more with the quadriceps and the rotation on the supporting leg. So a back kick has power through its entire stroke making it more dangerous to charge or jam. Side kick on the other hand makes power only near the end of its stroke when the quads and hip rotation focus so that it is possible for the defender to jam it by moving forward. You made a good point regarding striking with the blade of the foot versus the heel of the foot. The heel, if the kick is on line does way more damage.

    Thanks, you've helped me a lot, I was wondering what kind of stretches are most effective in order to kick higher with your back kick, because in my front kicks, and side kicks, I can kick higher than my head, but for my back kick, I can barely manage to kick above my waist. If you could help me out I'd really appreciate it.

    You can but it's a smaller target and easier for the opponent to block or move out of the way. The body is an easier option as it's bigger and harder for them to cover completely or to move out of the way quick enough :)

    It's good if it's controlled as you can get out of the way of attacks like you say and still deliver the technique with a good amount of force but if you are stumbling back when you kick a target or an opponent then it's not very efficient. Hope that helps and good luck :)

    Excellent video, though I disagree with using the blade of the foot due to potential ankle flexing, for one (kinda unnatural, too) - the sole is better, and highly effective with footwear (which is when you're using this kind of kick). I only look at these sorts of things from a combat perspective, though, not a competitive one (I'm all about the "martial" part of martial arts ;-). The demo of how it could be used at all sorts of ranges was fantastic. Thanks a ton!

    • @GingerNinjaTrickster

      I'm glad you liked it :) The flat has a bigger surface area meaning it will distribute the pressure and cause less damage than with the heel or blade. I appreciate you saying that. Thank you :)

    Another great and very informative video Aaron. Thank you!
    Yesterday, during practice, I got my wind knocked out by my partner's back kick while I was holding the kicking shield. I suppose I was holding the shield to close to my body and it pushed my holding hand into my rib cage. Are there any certain techniques to be applied while receiving blows to the body and absorb the impact without getting hurt? For example, would exhaling (i.e. tightening the muscles) work? Or should one be more relaxed instead?

    • @GingerNinjaTrickster
      @GingerNinjaTrickster  9 років тому +1

      I appreciate you saying that. Thank you :)
      Exhaling will help prevent it yes. Try to condition too so the area is strong :)

      I like to teach it with chambering to the front to get the balance and power in check. Definitely better for beginners in my opinion and then you can change it when you are more experienced with the kick because you know how to use your body more efficiently :)
