@@brucecustommotors Yea, i would love to build a couple kick panels or similar, to get some nice punchy mid bass. With out anything more than the stock amp powering the doors, it lacks the punch.
really nice video but i would suggest trying something else than the zipties. i had my front door speakers upgraded and mounted with zipties. yesterday i finally removed them and added normal sealant to prevent any air escaping from the sides of the sepaker and it makes the sound much better since the air cant cancel out the soundwaves as much. i would highly suggest trying it. you could still use the zipties but just make sure there arent many holes where the air can seep thru.
You could have saved yourself a ton of trouble, cutting and hacking stuff apart, had you just bought the speakers from Crutchfield- they throw in the correct brackets that drop right into place. Also, you need to seal that speaker off. You're better off making an MDF bracket, have it sealed correctly, and you'll get much better sound. While you've got the doors apart, throw some Dynamat on any bare metal you see. You are gaining nothing by going to a coaxial or 3-way speaker in that location. The factory B&O amp has specific crossover frequencies, so only sends a limited range to that door woofer. You're better off getting a 2-way component system, and replacing the door woofer plus the corner dash tweeters. Lastly, magnet size is not an indicator of power level. Different types of magnets are more efficient, and you can get away with using smaller, slimmer, and lighter designs in a car. If you're going to go to all that trouble, a couple of minor changes will make a big difference to your sound quality.
First and foremost I appreciate , your detailed, and knowledgeable, response, I wish I had some one like you before starting the project, i wish i was an expert like you. however, to your point, I did seal it off, and I already upgraded my rear sub, so I was looking for more mids, than bass, and i matched the 4omh, to get some what of the same power, I new i was taking a risk but I went for it, and it turned out great, but to your point, if you don't get the right speaker, or its under powered or over powered you wont get a great sound. i definitely will look into crutchfield, for future plans, and help out some of my subscribers, would love for you to be a resource. Thanks god bless Bro, would you mind to providing any links
@@brucecustommotors Appreciate that, but I'm no expert- I have been doing these on my cars for years, and you find little shortcuts and tweaks to make life much easier. Like, having speaker brackets that drop right into place, and seal everything properly- makes this job so much easier, and faster. I'd add some silicone to ensure there are no hard surfaces touching, and eliminate any rattles. Again, Dynamat any bare metal - it really reduces rattles and road noise coming into the cabin, which makes the sound system sound even better. I think it's great that you're showing people that with some very basic and inexpensive tools, the average person doesn't need to be afraid, and can tackle something like this on a free weekend, and save a pile of money vs. going to the dealership or shop to get something fixed. I would highly recommend getting a set of plastic pry tools, and suggest that those are not optional. (they're like $12 for a set of 4 or 5, in different shapes and sizes). It makes removing trim pieces and speaker grills easier and much safer, as you're not having to apply so much pressure or leverage to a single contact point. You can pop one pry tool into a corner, and with the others, work your way around, leaving the original ones in place. Much less risk of breaking the speaker grills this way- as they do get brittle with age, exposed to sunlight and extreme temperatures for years. If you go to Crutchfield.com (or.ca in Canada), you can enter in the make and model of your car, year, trim level, and sound package option, and the site will make recommendations based on what will fit, and what will not. If you're not adding an amp, it will even select the most efficient speakers available, so that you can power them with your OEM amp. If you buy from Crutchfield, they will include the appropriate adapters for each door, and include what they call a Mastersheet- basically a how-to guide that really goes into quite a bit of detail, step by step. Occasionally, if you have a weird OEM bracket, the new brackets may require a new self-tapping screw in the door. (I don't work for Crutchfield btw, but have used them for years, and am a happy customer). The B&O system is actually quite nice for midrange and highs, but it's the bass that's sorely lacking. Most people just add an external sub and a mono amp, and that rounds out the package really nicely. The B&O isn't actually too horrible when it's new- the paper speaker cones are lighter, respond very quickly and are accurate- (and actually cost manufacturers more to make) but the drawback is that they can draw moisture from the air, which you can easily get in a car. Plus, the foam surrounds also do not last as long. Cheers

Bruce, I have followed your video and it made the install very easy. Big thanks for that! The install is all done and I can't hear much sound coming out of my full range door speakers. I read on one of the Audi forums that when adding after market speakers you need to go into coding under sound system and change to coding to aftermarket Amp to get full range from speakers. The stock B&O speakers are 4-Ohm. (8T0035415B) I thought from researching in the forums that these were 8-Ohm, but when I took them out, they are 4-Ohm. You can actually see it in your video at 13:44. Maybe this will help someone down the road. Thanks
The entire B&O system is 4 ohm, 505 total watts, 25 watts to the front tweeters and center, 75 watts to each door woofer, 40 to rear side panel woofer, 150 watts to rear deck sub

Add some butyl weather sealant rope (ribbon sealant) around the air gaps between the speaker and the housing for better air compression and lower frequency extension (lower bass better response).
First time watching your video. I like the detail instructions! Very informative. Did you put the RF face cover on before you put the door panels back on?Thanks

been having problems where only the front dash speaker, rear dash speakers, and passenger side rear speaker have been working. i figured replacing the front speakers would fix the problem. did this exact setup. still no sound even with brand new speakers and i have no idea what to do.
good job and well explained! did you subsequently insulate the doors and door panels with alubutyl etc? I had the Audi Sound System in my convertible, not the B&O, so no tweeters in the mirror triangles. I installed the Alpine SPC 100 + 200AU and it's a massive difference. I also replaced the subwoofer on the left side of the back seat with a kicker 6.5 inch woofer with its own amplifier. now it's finally fun! Greetings from Germany
Great video. If this is how the B&O speaker looks then damn my basic one must be worse. I been looking to upgrade my front 2 door ones but hate to take off the door panel lol. Question I have, do you know if the non-B&O standard A4 models also have the same speaker cutout in the door? wondering if i'd have the same mount and get the same 6.75" size? Also, are there any other speakers that would be easier (labor wise) to swap in that would improve the overall sound quality a good amount? i don't need it crazy loud or anything, just something decent better than the factories. maybe the speaker on the top center dashboard? does that make a big difference?
@@brucecustommotors thanks. if i do just the smaller door tweeters (near the side mirrors), does that still require to remove the door panel i guess? would doing just the top center dashboard speaker upgrade make as much a difference as the door ones?

The amplifier has a built-in crossover so only woofer frequencies are passed to the door speakers. A component speaker will give you slightly better sound than a co-axial one installed.

Cheers
Great idea. Just fill around the speaker with foam. Silicone or flexseal
Do you know the size of the rear speakers? On a s4/a4
Hey man. Thanks so much for this guide. About to do this with the same speakers as you put in. Quick question, I’ve watched the video a few times but can’t understand all the wiring and stuff. What do those green things do that you showed on the video at 22:00? And you also talked about wire extensions and stuff. Sorry if this is a lot lol

@@brucecustommotors Thanks! Big help. And lastly, at 22:10, I now understand how to use the crimp connectors, but the other end of the wires, where do I connect those to and how? :) I'll let you know how i get on with this
@@richardmarshall7510 did u figure out how to do it? if so can u help me lol
Im about to install some speakers to mt doors can you explain a little bit on the wiring you have two pairs of wire? And what gauge? I bought 16
ok I would recommend a mid range speaker with more bass, I went with a 3 way because I already upgraded my sub, and wanted more mids
here's what you need

it may be maroon and brown, our maroon and blue for positive
@@brucecustommotors perfect yeah I got the same speaker just that I didnt see your affiliate link so I just order them my bad bro and so its only 2 wires? You tape it to the existing one and from the other side just one cable per speaker pole? Or do I need to ground or do anything extra?
@@erikestrada2408 yeh just the 2 wires, also look hit me up for any support, and don’t worry lol, I get 2 cents on a dollar, just looking out for my peeps, and when you install them use something to block the wholes so the the speakers can perform the best. I just used duck tape
Cool bro thanks got it done already 💯 😎
@@brucecustommotors I’m about to install the speakers, what holes are you talking about? And thanks again Bruce love the vids!
got these same speakers after wiring and plugging back into the car no sound is coming through???
Are the back seat speakers the same size 6.75”?
ill check, but I think so
Thanks I would appreciate it before I buy these off amazon..
Did you have the B&O Speakers before ?
Yes I did ,can you believe that’s how big the magnet is crazy😱 for such a snake brand to be , so low quality, they tend to sound ok , but since they are paper speakers they don’t last
Installed these today & I can tell it has more bass tho. Thank you sir!!!
Did you have any issues with your tweeters in the upper door after installing these speakers in the lower door?
Would these same size speakers work on a 2017 a4 quattro premium model (no b&o)?
Yes
Hello! I am from Portugal and I have an Audi A6 c7.5, 2.0TDI ultra, from the year 2016 and I would like to know if for my model it will be fit the same type of speaker that you used in yours?
Great video, congratulations on the tip and design of your A5. Peace
im checking for you
Man I'm going to put them in my 2009 audi a4 wagon premium. I got already aftermarket SUB installed, but 350w too low, getting 2.5kw and these, will make video how it sounds together.
Did you do this? I only have the OBDII so I cant re-code. If anyone knows it must be you with all your Audi expertise , help a brother out... Thanks
No I didn’t have to code, I also you a glue gun to seal the holes, also check this one

"And now I'm going to take out this screw." Love the video. Getting my face-lift A4 this week
yes sir, here for you bro good luck
Aren't the the stock speakers at 2ohm? These are 4ohm.. how's the sound?
Bro in the original speakers are from 20 cm??? You installed 16,5 cm?! I don t understand this . Can u explain me please ? Thanks
they were the same size, and perform better
I've got standard Audi speakers. You had b&o speakers and they were still trash? Damn
not powerful enough, here's my latest up grade ua-cam.com/video/COXd0Va5Z7g/v-deo.html
Thank you. The door speakers on my A5 have failed in the same way.
What size door speakers did you run in front boss?
The stock B&O speakers are 4-Ohm. (8T0035415B) I thought from researching in the forums that these were 8-Ohm, but when I took them out, they are 4-Ohm. You can actually see it in your video at 13:44. Maybe this will help someone down the road. Thanks
4ohm
My rear deck 8" B&O woofer just blew and I have been going crazy trying to find this info! TY 🙏
The entire B&O system is 4 ohm, 505 total watts, 25 watts to the front tweeters and center, 75 watts to each door woofer, 40 to rear side panel woofer, 150 watts to rear deck sub
The subwoofer is super easy to do as well and gives it a way better sound than stock with stock amp but awesome video you should do more tutorials !!!
thanks bro, the Im going to do a how to video swell
may you provide the link for those speakers?
will do
My affiliate link, you will get a discount. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0076SIIBM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0076SIIBM&linkCode=as2&tag=brucecustommo-20&linkId=2be7678912ac0683607056fa0ba2f774
Add some butyl weather sealant rope (ribbon sealant) around the air gaps between the speaker and the housing for better air compression and lower frequency extension (lower bass better response).
thank you , so much, god bless bro
First time watching your video. I like the detail instructions! Very informative. Did you put the RF face cover on before you put the door panels back on?Thanks
Could you throw slim mount 8" subs in there?
Yeh I actually am in the process now addicted to bass, I went 3 way because I wanted more mids, but I already upgraded the back subs, but I’m going to do it
been having problems where only the front dash speaker, rear dash speakers, and passenger side rear speaker have been working. i figured replacing the front speakers would fix the problem. did this exact setup. still no sound even with brand new speakers and i have no idea what to do.
The factory apm might have blown out
Try installing aftermarket amplifier
good job and well explained! did you subsequently insulate the doors and door panels with alubutyl etc?
I had the Audi Sound System in my convertible, not the B&O, so no tweeters in the mirror triangles. I installed the Alpine SPC 100 + 200AU and it's a massive difference. I also replaced the subwoofer on the left side of the back seat with a kicker 6.5 inch woofer with its own amplifier. now it's finally fun!
Greetings from Germany
thanks bro , no I didn't but good idea,
That was amazing work Bruce Bruce. 🍺
💯💯💯🔥💪💪💪💪🔥, my pleasure god bless
Hi are these 8inch or 6.5inch speakers?? Also is your stander tweeters still working??
6.5 and yes
Check these 2 out aswell

ua-cam.com/video/k6w6Jmi9z4U/v-deo.html
Yes and the same would work for you, also 6.75 would be perfect
@@brucecustommotors thanks. if i do just the smaller door tweeters (near the side mirrors), does that still require to remove the door panel i guess? would doing just the top center dashboard speaker upgrade make as much a difference as the door ones?
Can you post the link for these speakers.
will do

Thanks for the detailed video, are the speaker wires / plugs on the B&O units marked + and -ve?
I just ordered some speakers and spacers so I came here looking for exactly your video dude. Awesome work!
While I admire the enthusiasm for this modification, there are so many mistakes and just complete no no's it is unreal. I will upgrade mine with correct tools and processes thanks for the video though as it offered a bit of inspiration to change my speakers
What would you change?
Hi Bruce. I am Laszlo from Switzerland. Thanks for this video, it is amazing. My speakers are recently got broken so have to do the same work you did, but I am not sure if I can replace them with 2.5 Ohm speakers. Especially with JBL Stadium GTO 620? The Rockford you are using is 4 Ohm, that is why I am asking you. I appreciate your answer. Thanks.
let me get back with you
Did you replace your speaker? If yes what speaker did you use? Thx
Is your car wrapped or sprayed? Thanks
Hey do I need extra cords or the stuff with the electrical tape u put on the aftermarket speaker.? U lost me there ! And the grounding the wires and stuff. Please help. @Brucecustommotors
What gauge is the OEM speaker wire?
The amplifier has a built-in crossover so only woofer frequencies are passed to the door speakers. A component speaker will give you slightly better sound than a co-axial one installed.
How's the bass?
Does this apply to B9 too?
Can I get 4 for both front and rear ?
Yes but I think honestly if you do this you will get all the bass you need

ua-cam.com/video/COXd0Va5Z7g/v-deo.html
Is there a reason why my bass is the only thing working in the speaker? I dont have a voice
What size if the aftermarket speaker??
6 and a quarter
Just recently installed a hertz amplifier in my car I'm sure it was your chanel. Top stuff. Have you upgraded your dash speakers yet?
Bro what beat is that at 29:10??🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Just installed those speakers, thanks for the tutorial
Good video lol but I zip tied too and I think it just broke and fell out I bought the same speakers as you and I may of done something wrong but it is also in an Audi TT
Also I didn’t put this in the video but I used hot glue to seal the hole or you can use foam
@@brucecustommotors I believe my speakers have smaller mounting (rf 6.5 3 way speakers on Amazon) holes so it probably broke. should I buy a cheap mounting bracket to mount on the Audi bracket with like screws
Nevermind I didn’t make a good connection with the wires the zip ties held up good 👍
Excellent video. My next project.
nice video, there's nothing wrong with using tie raps, im going to replace mine also.........im going to do mine but im going to try to use black hot glue where the speaker sits.
Crutchfield now sells the brackets for the door speakers, has anyone used them?
Sure My Jita, you did it, I am a follower big time.ofcourse let's go to another level, from me Msejo in Johannesburg RSA.
Very cool video man. Did you end up making any changes to the door tweeter? Or any of the front/rear dash speakers? I have RSNav too so it seems the center speaker needs to stay in place but it would be nice to swap it. Anyway, love how you just went all out on this car and made it whatever you wanted.
yes will be doing another video shortly, and yeh I left the front center alone for rsnav audio
Will be upgrading door speakers to Kenwood 3-way. Thanks BMC! Good work.
Upgrade coming up soon for the A7 thanks for all the work and vids
What size were the bolts holding the speaker in?
Found out 8mm for anyone interested
Congrats on the video. Just bought 4 Pioneer 3 way coaxial speakers for my A4 B8. One question: is there any right/wrong way of conecting the speaker cables to the Audi speaker housing? Big hug 👍🏼
I want to know this as well, did tou figure it out?
@@Somar612 I went for the logic way, the left cable on the left and the right cable on the right. It worked pretty well 💪🏼
