The earliest Porsche 911s are now more than half a century old - as authentic as these cars are to the original 911 design, they aren't used as much by enthusiasts these days due to their archaic driving experience. However, Makellos Classics has shown that with the right mods, these beautiful cars can be more fun, more engaging and more useable than ever before. Here's how I got on sampling the build of this stunning Albert blue example, originally a 1972 Porsche 911T, now a 3.6-litre, 300hp hot-rod enhanced with modern tech.
Thanks to the guys at Makellos Classics, San Diego, for their expertise and warm welcome as usual, and to David, for allowing me some seat time in the car on his special collection day. What a guy!

LOVE the smile on Lee’s face that appears as he’s driving this thing through the twisties. THAT epitomises what classic 911s are all about
You just keep kicking it out of the park Lee. And I ALWAYS have time for 9:11 upload. Nice.
Well done on this one, really enjoyed it. Question or statement, rebuilt 915box, but you were swapping cogs very quickly for a 915.
Been driving 911s for almost 35years, started with G now 992GT3, and I reflect more these days on the old. I really miss the driver experience.......
I am in the middle of building a 72 911rst omod narrow body 3.6 from a 94 964 using 46mm Pmo carburators rs cams 993 manifolds with heat.I hopethat she turns out just as nice as this beautiful 72 that you featured thanks for the great content.
Thanks for the kind words, and good luck with your build!
I miss my Porsches
My first was purchased in 1995 I found a black on black 76' 911s with only 2 owners. Which was well serviced by Weisach in California. No expence was spared.
When I purchased it
I was given a service folder with $28k in reciepts.
My 2nd Porsche was a n 81' 928s 5sp also black in black. Besides a stereo upgrade & a few minor engine & brake repairs the only other thing I had done was the removal of the catylitic converters.
The 928s was also a joy to drive. I adapted to the different shift pattern very quocklly.
It was more luxurious then my 911 but also heavier. Driving well over 160mph felt safe & was always fun.
Since letting it go after a few years in 2005 gas prices have tripled.
On numerous occassuons I recall spending $50 a day on fuel today that would've been $150.
Where I moved to 15yrs ago I sold the sports cars & now own 4X4's & a Harley Davidson.
On the plus side Iam no longer collecting speeding tickets
Cheers from Canada
love your vids - really just honest no bull - big lack of rubbish tv 'shiny smile' - great stuff
Something similar is quite possibly my dream car. That driving road is also rather wonderful : somewhere north of San Diego ? (I'm clueless!)
Great video, Lee! Is it weird switching between LHD roads and RHD roads? I expect it would require your full attention and then some.
While you're in the San Diego area, hope you can borrow a cabriolet model and drive up Coast Highway.
Pretty car, ugly headlights. You just can't beat the look of the classic H4s on a 911.
You can’t beat being able to see where you’re going in the dark…
Agreed. Those modern ones look bug-eyed.
70's lenses with modern bulbs would be my choice.
Un appunto puramente estetico
Su una prebumper i Fuchs devono avere i petali satinati... non neri 😉
Sorry, road noise is so loud I cannot understand you.
Me thinks you exaggerate, I can hear him perfectly clearly .
@@Carrera-gp9od I'm glad for you.
The sound was just fine for me. Maybe a glich in your computer???
I found it easy to hear oh well can't argue with how you felt
