Ok, OMG! This video is completely heartwarming for anyone who knows what unloading a suitcase coming from Africa is like. You guys have been completely spoiled by your dad. I don’t even know where to start 😂. First off, I’m currently using the exact yellow African bath sponge as your dad’s. Kareem looks super handsome in the thobe! Kenton turned Hausa quick 😂. Mariam looks sooooo beautiful in her boubou. I can’t wait to see you wearing your stuff. He even brought the leather cushions!! I know you’ll love having that in your home.
When he said “kina lafiya” to Mariam, I wanted her to say “lafiya lau” so bad. That would have made his day 😂. You can tell he’s so happy to see you, and it’s amazing that he apparently still holds your mom dear in his heart. Uff, too much to write. Habiba, thank you for sharing this with us. Can you tell I’m a little happy for you all. Bless you guys.

@SentimentalCrab, your comment is beautiful. The vlog and your comment warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. I know how precious daughters are to their dad's. I lost mine 15 years ago. I am a Nigerian too. Born in Jos but, from the South West. I can still speak Hausa, kadan kadan but, understand it to a certain degree. You're blessed, my sisters.

A Nigerian man will not tell their kids they love them. But when they buy something for you no matter how inexpensive such is; they're showing their love for you.
Just like my dad he will never say he loves you but he will do everything you ask of him... Miss my dad of blessed memory

You are such a good person for welcoming your father back into your life. It is also obvious that your father is a good person, flawed and trying to make amends. What I found interesting is that your father was younger when you left than you are now. It is true that in some parts of Northern Nigeria (in the past), firstborns did not usually have a relationship with their mothers. I wonder what effects that had on subsequent emotional relationships of the firstborn. I can understand your mother's hurt.

You guys better appreciate those clothes and put them on with pride! they are damn expensive, He’s a proud man and definitely value his family!!! Bless him, I wish my Dad is still alive to visit me here. He doesn’t even need to bring any gifts😀! I won’t let him go back.... I miss him real bad. I’m sure my children will do too.

Even as a stranger, I can see that this man loves his daughter soooo much and is overjoyed to see his son-in-law and grandchildren. Nigerian men, and especially Hausa men, are generally not socialised to express emotion and you can see the love emanating from him. Habiba is clearly a daughter in a million and an awesome lady. God bless you for doing this. I'm surprised at myself - I'm trying not to cry!

Quite impressive, I couldn't stop smiling all through while watching this video. As a filmmaker, we have a lot in common, I felt really emotionally connected. The Christmas card you sent to your dad was signed on my birthday, when I turned 18 (2 years older than you, I believe) and the same year I finished my secondary school. I am an Igbo and a christian, who grew up among Hausas in Cameroon and I speak fluent Hausa. I really have a huge amount of respect to your dad, seeing him showing you that well preserved Christmas card, as a Northern Nigerian muslim, wow! Respect! Thats how we should all see and treat religion. I hope he enjoyed his visit. Wish him well for me and thank you and your lovely family for sharing this fantastic video. Looking forward to see Miriam's directed movie or documentary in the near feature stay blessed.

I really love this. Wow, he spent a lot of money shopping for you guys. That's our fathers' way of making it up to us. I schooled in the North, so I understand your culture well. I left my dad too in similar circumstances and didn't see him for over 20 years before he passed. I didn't speak to him for many years, but we eventually reconnected and he tried hard to repair our relationship, even begged me to come home to visit, but I couldn't forget the hurt and trauma he caused. I was too far gone to care that people evolve. I don't blame your mom or dad for their decisions. One was a slave to tradition and one was a slave to emotion. God give us the wisdom to not be bound by either and to make right decision at the right time. God bless you and your family!
