Superman isn’t about how hard the guy can punch it’s the joy sparked by anticipation, it’s the excitment, the heroic acts the amazing feats. When the chips are down and all hope is lost and things look bleakest all you need is to hear that superman rumble kick in. (Honorable mention also goes to the Superman animated theme and the adventures of lois & clark theme)
Not just paying homage to the Christopher Reeves' Superman movies with the John Williams score, but they even threw in the streaming credits like in the movies, awesome!
What a breathtaking ending to 10 years of magic...I cried, so wish the show could have continued but what a perfect goodbye, Clark was finally living his destiny, with the woman he loved!

Crisis had already filmed and had started early post production, Tom Welling having just gotten time off from work, and because Crisis had already stated that they only needed 1 mysterious Kryptonian it meant Toms Clark wasn't needed as they had already gotten Brandons Clark, then add in the fact that Cryers Lex was on a mission to kill every Superman in the multiverse, they needed a way to keep Toms Clark alive without Cryers Lex killing him during the subplot, so depowering Clark for the crisis cameo was the best result, it means if CW do another crossover they bosses of Arrowverse can call Tom back and give his Clark his powers back Sometimes thinking short term helps the long term in TV shows and movies

Welling doesn't want to wear Superman' suit, he was the one who said he shouldn't wear it during the finale, that's the reason of why we never see in a full shot with a real costume, only as CGI. Honestly, it's better that he doesn't appear as Superman in the Arrowverse.
I forgot they never actually had Tom Welling fly in the suit.. I had this manufactured memory of him actually flying off in it at the end of the series. Maybe in this year's Crisis crossover they will actually let him fly in costume.

I was 10 when this show ended. I grew up watching reruns with my dad. He was taken to see the first Superman movie for his 10th birthday, so it was only fitting we watched the end of Smallville together. I can still remember the look on his face when he hears the classic theme, how 10 years had built to this moment, and when he ripped off the shirt and the credits rolled, he said “He’s superman now, he’s out there, saving the day.” Thanks dad, you’re my superman.
I personally suspect that he folds it up his back real quick. You don't wanna be sitting on that thing without the ability to adjust it, so it makes more sense that way.

You can only imagine how hard it was for them to get the Superman theme for the ending. Even though it is still Warner Brothers it was no walk in the park. They had to negotiate months in advance to cut through the red tape for the rights. So soooo glad they were able to get it! The most epic music to go with the end of a truly epic series! Ten seasons! It still blows me away.
I don't think it was that hard. Smallville was a WB show before it became CW. Besides, Man of Steel was in production at that time and wasn't going to be using the John Williams music anyway
What I love about this is that at this point, Clark has already faced Doomsday, Darkseid, Zod, and basically joined the Justice League, and now has to deal with something relatively more minor for Superman. And yet it’s no less epic since it’s at the core of the character.
Love this ending! It gets me pumped up. As great as an ending this was it really caught me by surprise. I always thought it would have been the old flying into space and smiling at the camera like the films. Besides that we still got to see how a boy who grew up in a little town called SMALLVILLE became a SUPERMAN.

In the comic, there is one instance where Lex Luthor become president, then he tries to build a planetary defense WALL and tries to get all ILLEGAL ALIENS off the planet, including SuperMan. Sound familiar? ;p

Door opens, Tom comes out, throws away his chaleco, stands tall with a commanding bearing in corporate attire, removes his glasses, slowly strides forward like a magnificent stallion, pulls down his tie, flashes open his shirt to reveal the Man of Steel icon and ready to take flight is the best WINNING stunt for Clark Kent changing to Superman. Way to go Tom Welling, you have already been immortalized in the superhero entertainment industry by this scene.
The John Williams score gave me goosebumps the first time I saw this on TV. It truly is the definitive song for Superman. I hope James Gunn brings it back for Superman Legacy. 🤞
I like that they stuck to ONLY telling the story of how superman came to be, and not what happens after. Love the fact that it leaves the future open with luthor being president. would of sucked if it just leaves Clark with a somewhat good job

I'm in my late forties and got choked up and goosebumps just from the music. Happened when I was binge watching it on a whim years after Smallville ended, and Christopher Reeve guest starred on it. I heard a snippet of the old theme during that, and cut onions.
I loved Smallville, and the final episode was good especially in the end. Although I was hoping to have a better view of Clark dressed as Superman. I hope Tom Welling will make an appearance on Arrow and TheFlash. Would be AWESOME.

This was always Clark/Superman's *origin* story, how he *became* _Superman_ ~ As soon as he was our favourite hero in blue, the origin story is over, and it just becomes the _Superman_ stories we all know & love! This ending was perfect! However, if you really need more of _this_ Clark Kent as _Superman_ then there are the official (and canon) graphic novels, that continued the story for a while… And of course there's the scene in the huge _Arrowverse_ crossover event, *Crisis On Infinite Earths* in which we see that, after all the events from the graphic novels, Clark eventually gave up his powers, hung up his cape, stopped being _Superman_ & settled into life on the farm, with Lois & their two daughters.
Gotta agree. I remember watching that whole final season and seeing that last scene. Just a perfect ending. It signaled to a new beginning. A fresh start. And to have the John Williams score at the end was icing on the cake.
One of my favorite details here is Lois’ reaction to Clark needing to be a few minutes late to be late to their wedding because he has to go do Superman stuff. She’s not annoyed, she’s not worried, she’s not in any way behaving as though this is a sacrifice - on the contrary, she looks like she’s LOVING IT. Clark spends so much of this show worrying about being accepted for who he is, and seeing Lois be so clearly ALL IN is really heartwarming.
Best superhero show watch it with my son we never missed an episode. Till this day he tells me how we would wonder what the next episode and season would be. Had every thing Superman was great show.

What I love about this is that at this point, Clark has already faced Doomsday, Darkseid, Zod, and basically joined the Justice League, and now has to deal with something relatively more minor for Superman. And yet it’s no less epic since it’s at the core of the character.

Love this ending! It gets me pumped up. As great as an ending this was it really caught me by surprise. I always thought it would have been the old flying into space and smiling at the camera like the films. Besides that we still got to see how a boy who grew up in a little town called SMALLVILLE became a SUPERMAN.

Today I finished watching Smallville. Exactly 10 years after the finale, May 13, 2011. Best show ever! Can’t wait to watch it over again.
The series finale of Smallville should've been dedicated to both Christopher & Dana Reeve just as Superman Returns was dedicated to them as well.

Took me 20 years to finish watching the entire series... Finished it yesterday. Some seasons were not good and took forever to get through them, ending was worth it.
Things could've differently was a better endgame for Lana Lang when many felt was a three season love story that went on for seven seasons too long.

Man back then they really knew how to make super heroes look freaking heroic as fuck with that background with the sunlight hitting the building making it look golden.They did this with the spiderman movies poster as well back then.Man I wish that style showed up more

Door opens, Tom comes out, throws away his chaleco, stands tall with a commanding bearing in corporate attire, removes his glasses, slowly strides forward like a magnificent stallion, pulls down his tie, flashes open his shirt to reveal the Man of Steel icon and ready to take flight is the best WINNING stunt for Clark Kent changing to Superman. Way to go Tom Welling, you have already been immortalized in the superhero entertainment industry by this scene.

I've never watched this show, but just hearing the classic Superman theme in the background is so awesome

The John Williams score gave me goosebumps the first time I saw this on TV. It truly is the definitive song for Superman. I hope James Gunn brings it back for Superman Legacy. 🤞

I like that they stuck to ONLY telling the story of how superman came to be, and not what happens after. Love the fact that it leaves the future open with luthor being president. would of sucked if it just leaves Clark with a somewhat good job
1:06 this did it for me, remembering how Christopher Reed’s Clark was like, along with the John Williams superman theme and the (upper) costume reveal. It was perfect.

I'm in my late forties and got choked up and goosebumps just from the music. Happened when I was binge watching it on a whim years after Smallville ended, and Christopher Reeve guest starred on it. I heard a snippet of the old theme during that, and cut onions.

I loved Smallville, and the final episode was good especially in the end. Although I was hoping to have a better view of Clark dressed as Superman. I hope Tom Welling will make an appearance on Arrow and TheFlash. Would be AWESOME.

After a season of teasing the theme, I was so hype to hear this.

This was always Clark/Superman's *origin* story, how he *became* _Superman_ ~ As soon as he was our favourite hero in blue, the origin story is over, and it just becomes the _Superman_ stories we all know & love! This ending was perfect!
However, if you really need more of _this_ Clark Kent as _Superman_ then there are the official (and canon) graphic novels, that continued the story for a while… And of course there's the scene in the huge _Arrowverse_ crossover event, *Crisis On Infinite Earths* in which we see that, after all the events from the graphic novels, Clark eventually gave up his powers, hung up his cape, stopped being _Superman_ & settled into life on the farm, with Lois & their two daughters.
Makes no sense. After all these, hanging the cape for good. Ruined!

When that thème song kicked in at the end it brought a tear to my eye!
They even played the love theme "Can You Read My Mind" too! This was just too perfect. ^_^
Gotta agree. I remember watching that whole final season and seeing that last scene. Just a perfect ending. It signaled to a new beginning. A fresh start. And to have the John Williams score at the end was icing on the cake.
One of my favorite details here is Lois’ reaction to Clark needing to be a few minutes late to be late to their wedding because he has to go do Superman stuff. She’s not annoyed, she’s not worried, she’s not in any way behaving as though this is a sacrifice - on the contrary, she looks like she’s LOVING IT.
Clark spends so much of this show worrying about being accepted for who he is, and seeing Lois be so clearly ALL IN is really heartwarming.

Best superhero show watch it with my son we never missed an episode. Till this day he tells me how we would wonder what the next episode and season would be. Had every thing Superman was great show.
