    I'm the only one who wants the next Pokémon starters being based on Jiraiya, Tsunade and Orochimaru?
    Jiraiya = Grass Toad
    Orochimaru = Fire Snake
    Tsunade = Water Slug

      He took so much inspiration from SO many stories like that. If we look at Kaguya in Naruto she appears in pretty much the same way as the original story, coming from a tree(though the original is a bamboo tree but still) and also the references to how she had a lot to do with the moon.

    Actually, (with a few civil liberties), Itachi was one of the closest in naruto to fitting the actual definition of a shinobi. Spent most of his life in the shadows, gathering intel. Would try not to be detected if at all possible, even using trickery and sleight of hand (genjutsu) to redirect his opponents' focus. Even went behind enemy territory (akatsuki) to gather intel (figuring out how to stop tobi). However, his extreme loyalty to his masters (the hidden leaf village) does give him some similarities to samurai, and some of his more physical attacks do actually command a presence - like amaterasu and susano'o. Other than that, there were likely very few, if any, "historically accurate" ninja in naruto.

    I think we should think of the three Sanin as the reincarnations of the characters in the folklore, just as naruto and sasuke are the reincarnations of Indra and Ashura, or even madara and hashirama (to a certain extent).

    Another small detail was that when the Snake, Slug and Toad were summoned by a user it was called the three way deadlock. This is most likely a reference to the way the powers matched in the original story.

    • @truekurayami
      @truekurayami 7 років тому +7

      Though part of that rock paper scissors bit, of the summon magic that also made for the three way deadlock partly has to deal with poisons of real snakes, frogs, and slugs, where it was likely to find in that rotation about weaknesses to said poisons. A number of slugs actually have a poison that snakes can't handle but frogs can, and so one through predator/prey relations, even if slugs don't actually prey on snakes, but that also works into how slugs are shown to be more around healing instead of combat as shown in both stories.

    • @turinturambar1688

      In the show the summons works like this: Snake beats toad toad beats slug slug beats snake, in battles between the sannin jiriya beats orochimaru who beats tsuname who wins against jiryia

    I think the reason naruto's universe still call themselves ninjas is that they were in fact ninjas long ago but with the spread of ninshu and chakra they became the primary fighting force of nations forcing them to focus less on steath and more on power and renown because they needed to earn a living so being a highly secret group would be less successful than a well known group, and being known would increase the number of "ninjas" making them stronger for major wars. So while they are not quite our ninjas they could of develop from them.

      Scarlet Letter tons they even have hattori hanzo in it. A lot of anime do this like dragonball for example with the journey to the west, goku is son wukong and i dont remember the names of the rest but oolong, ox king and a few others. In one piece tons of pirates are named after real life pirates with blackbeard and whitebeard splitting the name of the real blackbeard which was edward teach. Bonnie, alcapone, drake ect. You just gotta do a little research and youll see it.

    • @truekurayami
      @truekurayami 7 років тому +1

      Edgar though what seperates naruto from one piece on that bit is naruto is more subtle references in many cases especially to western audiences, while one piece is more open about those historical counter parts though that is partly due to the west being more familar with the pirates referenced, especially with Blackbeard as he is the most well known pirate, though aside from Whitebeard's name Whitebeard is a reference to a second pirate known by the same title, and one of the more subtle ones is Shanks being known as Red haired, as a nod to Redbeard making sure there was a nod to those three infamous pirates who unlike in the anime really didn't take place in the same time even if it was still major time of pirates when they were around

    • @edgarmaresmunoz130

      Akuma Imayaruk its really as you said about the audiences knowledge on the references. Which is why gaijin is doing a great thing by helping us understand not only where they come from but more of the why some of these references are just names or interpretations.

    this might not count as a ninja and i highly doubt that this wull be taken into consideration since im not a patreon and all that but i DO have an idea for an episode of which ninja
    Sceptile!
    If you read its pokedex entry in pokemon ruby it says that ''The leaves growing on Sceptile's body are very sharp edged. This Pokémon is very agile - it leaps all over the branches of trees and jumps on its foe from above or behind.''
    which would indicate that sceptile has a very certain way of fighting, using surprise attacks from blindspots of the enemy and using speed as its main asset.
    Also if you look at Pokken Tournaments rendition of Sceptile you can see more ninja behaviours.
    While it doesnt exactly avoid battle in Pokken (since it IS a fighting game), Sceptiles main tactics involve using speed and carefully laid out traps to ensnare and weaken the enemy pokemon (while also absorbing HP with certain attack, and all those HP absorbing attacks have a far range to them).
    He can set up seeds on the ground with some of them growing into mighty vines, simulating cowtrops.
    While other seeds can turn into bushes to stop the enemy dead in its tracks.
    Also both of Sceptiles Grab attacks showcase his speed and agility.
    Sceptiles are also considered ''Phantoms of the Jungle''
    Whats more is, The orb like seeds contain nutrients that Allow sceptile to grow and care for the trees, much like how a farmer tends to his crops (Since alot of Ninjas back in the Day were of the peasant class and cared for crops as far as i know.)
    I seriously hope That Gaijin sees this or maybe some of his Patrons could show him this so that he can analyse Sceptile even further since all of this knowledge i just typed out was stuff that i could recall off the top of my head. Im 100% positive that with some more research Gaijin could truly find some more mind blowing facts about Scpetile and maybe even the whole Trreko line.
    Unitl then, Nicholas, signing out! :D

      GeckoGC A spy/assassin seems like a good description of a ninja to me, but I would not be asking this if the similarities stopped at that. Also, I could just direct you to her wiki page, but I'm gonna do more than just that, (but go check it out, though). Everything moves to her weapons, screams ninja.
      Just look at what she uses for combat. Much like the real world ninjas started weaponizing kamas because they where tools that a farmer (which they often disguised as) could carry without drawing any suspicion, she uses as weapons tools available to nurses: Scalpels, her bonesaw, even using the crosses in her outfit as throwing stars, all weaponized tools that could be available to a nurse.
      I could spend a lot of time picking apart a bunch of her moves, but given I'm in mobile, I'm gonna leave that to GG and just point out the animation that, for me, makes the best example of her ninjaness: her timeout loose animation. It's a freaking Kawarimi no Jutsu! There is no doubt about it, she just uses the body replacement technique and disappears, leaving behind just a bunch of bones.
      Also, GG already covered in this very series how kunoichi would use their charms (Senran Kagura episode), and Valentine is no exception. Of all the girls in the roster, only two other wear clothes even close to being as revealing as Valentine's: Cerebella and Eliza both of them performers known for their beauty (in fact, the point of Eliza stealing all that blood is to maintain her ageless beauty). It makes sense for them to try to make the most of their famous beauty, but not for Valentine, not until you consider she's a kunoichi.
      That's all i'm going to say for now, hopefully I made my point, but I'll leave the rest to GG if he decides to actually make an episode.

    Also if I recall correctly in one version, Orochimaru was once one of Jiraiya's followers originally named Yashagoro but was overtaken by serpent magic. Having changed his name to Orochimaru, he gained the ability to turn himself into a giant serpent. He attacked Jiraiya and Tsunade and defeated them with his venom, only for another follower to save the couple's lives afterwards.

    You should definetely look at "Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun"
    I think that this game has quite an accurate depiction of ninja, though only two of the five playable characters are referred to as such.
    There is Hayato, the more or less typical shinobi. And there is Aiko, a kunoichi. Both characters can be played very differently, as Hayato constantly has to stay hidden but has an easier time disposing of bodies, while Aiko can stroll through enemy territory in disguise.
    Also, every character has tools for distraction, luring enemies to certain positions or avoiding attention. Hayato can throw rocks to make irritating noise, Yuki (a child that grew up in the wild) can lure people to certain positions with a whistle, Mugen (the Samurai) can drop a sake bottle as a bait, Aiko can throw smoke bombs and Takuma (a sniper and explosives expert) has a trained tanuki to distract people.

    Jiraiya maybe diffrent to fit with the world of Naruto but he is still connected to the story and is a very respectable character

    Fun fact
    When Orochimaru shows up in the fight between Sasuke and Itatchi, it's a reference to Susano'os or Susano's Lore where he slayed an 8 headed serpent. In his lore, he was travelling around and he stopped at a village which happened to be pestered by an 8 headed snake. The snake had stolen and eaten a child from the village and the child's parents asked Susano for help. Susano laid down 8 buckets of sake, one for each head, and waited for the snake while hiding in the cover of darkness. The snake showed up and started drinking from the buckets, but right after Susano came out and decapitated each head of the snake.
    i dont remember exactly how the story goes but i remember the most important parts of it, aswell as this is just his story in a nutshell. You can google him for more information.

    It is awesome when there are many different interpretations of historical and folk characters that are well written, and even if they have different personality traits or physical traits we love them for how they impact our lives. Aaron Burr as a black man and King Arthur as a woman are awesome characters.

    Toei must REALLY like Jiraiya because in addition to that Kaiju film and Sekai Ninja Sen Jiraiya, they also had NinjaBlack of Kakuranger (he's the reason why Adam got a frog in the 90s Power Rangers movie lol). Not sure how you missed him when you mentioned the far more obscure Metal Hero... (and yes I know the "World Ninja" appeared in Ninninger but he's still really obscure in the west)

    My counter argument to Naruto's Ninjas being bad ninjas because, "LOOK at what Naruto is wearing!!! You can't be stealthy in a Bright Orange Jumpsuit!!" is that real ninjas didn't have Ninja magic to the extent that Naruto's ninjas do. If I could do a couple finger motions and suddenly I'm a rock that's indiscernible from any other around me, why would I need to wear stealthy clothing? Also Great video GG! I liked the history lesson.

    Niiiiice, man! Here's to hoping you touch again on this when you cover Pokemon' Jiraiya, Greninja. Also, minor trivia, since you brought up Tokusatsu and the Metal Hero ninja Sen Jiraiya, ever wonder why the Frog is a ninja animal in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Season 3, complete with the "I'm a frog" line? This is why. In the original Super Sentai that season's mechs and monsters, and the Alien Rangers' suits were adapted from, Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, the Black Ranger of that show was named Jiraiya, and rather than being a frog, his motif was that of a toad. The guns of the Ninja Steel Rangers are also toads for that same reason.

    When it comes to Jiraiya apparently THIS is where the whole "Ninjas and Frogs/Toads" thing came from in media. For some reason ninja since Jiraiya have had a pretty close connection to frogs and toads as can be seen in other ninja media. This relationship doesn't appear to exist before Jiraiya's story came about in history. Hell in Tenchu Z for Xbox 360 one of the accessories you can have your ninja have on their person is either a toad with a shuriken on it's side, a raven holding a tiny kunai in it's beak, or a snake sitting/wrapped around the custom shinobi you make..no slug but even in Tenchu you can see the snake and toad.
    I'd love to see a couple of videos on the ninja from Tenchu (maybe a little side vid for Tesshu who is an assassin for hire/doctor but has had contact with Rikimaru of the Azuma clan) and Shinobido. Yeah there are some mystical aspects to Tenchu but out of all the ninja games out there these two series have the more 'real' aspects ESPECIALLY the Tenchu game for the Wii when it comes to combat (not the motion controls) if you don't have your own sword brought into the mission with you, if you're spotted you use substitution with and leave your top coat behind, next time it's game over so stealth is VERY important in that game in particular.

    The thing that peeved me off though was that you called Toku Jiraya was a Power Ranger, that's plainly not true. Power Rangers is adapted from Super Sentai, and even then, Jiraya isn't that, he's from Metal Hero, another Tokusatsu series produced by Toei. I get not a lot of people know about Tokusatsu shows, let alone Metal Hero, but you could have explained it a bit more.

    Don't care what the haters say. I love Naruto, especially Jiraiya. It's a fun show. The last arc was pretty sub-par, but that's about it.
    Btw, I think it's unfair to expect Jiraiya and others to be JUST like who they are based off of. There are enough nods and references for it to be justified while still allowing them to be their own characters.

    I know I'm late to the party, but I'll go ahead and add in another Jiraiya refererence in Japanese media. In the Super Sentai show Kakuranger, Ninja Black is named Jiraiya and his final mecha is a frog that shoots fire. Bits of Kakuranger got adapted into the third season of Power Rangers and Alien Rangers mini series. Kakuranger Jiraiya is more of a reference than an adaptation, but it's still kind of fun.

I just finished watching a movie called Bloodsport, about a man named Frank Deux, who competed in the Kumite fights in hong kong in the 1970's and supposedly founded the american school of nijitsu called Deux- ryu. but according to what little research i had done his claims have been proven false. i was wandering if you as a shinobi enthousiast could possibly make a video about these events and maybe use them as a topic on some false schools of ninjitsu that have cropped up over the years. i think you, as a teacher and respected ambassador of the shinobi and ninja culture could educate people the best on this topic.

    Naruto is an absolute affront to TRUE ninja. The characters wear SO many colors OTHER than navy blue which would make them stand out like a sore thumb no matter what time of day it was, and the title character makes so much noise, he might as well have put a big bulls-eye where his open trap is.

    So basically Kishimoto rewrote the legends into his own new version the same way Marvel rewrote norse legends about Thor. The differences are noticeable to anyone familiar with the source material, the new media is significantly more popular than the original, but the modern portrayals have plenty of references to make up for it. Speaking of that, if Gaijin ever reads I suggest he make a video about modernized Thor vs, classic Thor.

    Over the years, I am learning more and more how much Naruto actaully took inspiration from real life japanese lore, almost to the point where Naruto isn't even an original story, but a retelling of old japanese history. But hey, anything that can make history actually FUN to learn, is okay by me.
