      Hi Astral Auto Repairs,
You do realize that this video does not show anyone how to do it correctly, don't you?
You do realize that your comments don't include a link to the proper tool, don't you?
      What's up with that?
Can you remedy this by updating your comments with the necessary links?
I'd appreciate a reply. Thank you

I have an inline double/bubble flair tool that makes good bubble flairs or double flairs too. It's die will make a bubble flair straight off, then remove the die to make a double. W/O the die it's just a worthless single flair - don't use.

My friend's sister hired her next door neighbor to replace a rotted brake line and just to make sure everything was done right... she called her brother and asked him to stop by and check things out. The guy cut off the rusted brake line and replaced it with a rubber vacuum hose and clamps. Boy that was an easy job... and fast too!

Well...it depends on the fitting type. If your shit uses a bubble, you put a bubble flare on it. If it requires a double flare, you put a double flare in it.

There is alot to this. normal steel, nickel copper should be double flared. Stainless harder material and should be bubble flared. call it right man. bubble flare on copper nickle is not as good as a double flare.

And yet all the Asian manufacturers use bubble (DIN) flares on all of their steel brake lines.

I get your point...but in reality, thousands of vehicles are repaired using the double flare technique just fine. Improper fitting and/or improper flaring technique, that’s a different story.

The nut has to be correct for the flare type as well. Therefore do not use bubble with SAE double nuts.

I have a kit I purchased from Eastwood and it uses dies and blocks. It is my favorite for both bubble and double flares.
The only drawback is the tool is very difficult to use on the vehicle or in tight quarters.
It scares me to think that some people think it is OK to make the bubble flare incorrectly, as you describe. That is so wrong.

I understand that a single flare is totally out of the question for brake lines. However, are you saying that a double flare is also not acceptable and that a bubble flare is the only method that should be used? I'm confused because I have always understood that a double flare was the way to go for brake lines. Bubble flares are mainly used on European cars.

    • @OnlineAutoRepairVideos
      @OnlineAutoRepairVideos  2 роки тому

The video is about people who use a "single flare tool" to do a double flare, which is very dangerous. A double flare (done the right way, with the correct tool) is great for brake lines.

@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos My understanding all along has been that using a compression union for brake lines is unacceptable, dangerous, and even illegal in many states. Hence, using a doubled flared brake line is the best method to use. Nonetheless, would a high pressure compression union rated for 5,000 psi (Dorman part # 800-202) be perfectly safe and acceptable to use? Thank you!

I agree. My double flares come out good 100% of the time while my bubble flares are hit and miss (mostly miss.)
I have need of doing bubble flares but can't find a link to a proper tool (real dumb not to include that in the video comments BTW).
I would even buy a factory made bubble and adapt it to a double flare if only I could find steel couplings (rather than brass).
I hate tubing jobs!!!! They "Should" be the easiest jobs on the planet but they are always a pain because there are no standards (threads / inch, flaring methods etc.. all vary widely. My jeep (for example) has 3 different variations on the ABS module for each F.R. Wheel, F.L Wheel and Rear Wheels.
I might have to throw my car away because I can't solve the brake line problem. How stupid car manufacturers are to not make brake lines out of stainless or CUNI?
      Thanks for letting me vent.

My factory OEM Volvo 240 brake lines are bubble/ISO flares. The backs of the flare that the flare nut seats is completely flat and not angled. It is a true bubble flare. The off the shelf parts store lines aren’t flat. Volvo stands by safety. Not sure auto stores do…

  • @PatrickSimons79

There is a lot more to this than the cheap tools that are used to create it. Check the fitting standards you are replacing and what type of flare it calls for, it's not one flare type fits all. Also make sure you are using quality certified fittings that are designed for the job.and are torqued correctly.

I hate abs. I'm lucky to be alive because of an abs fault. System decided to release all wheels and let them free wheel instead of allowing the tires to possibly chirp a little in an emergency stop situation. Luckily the highway at the 4 way we ran straight through the stop signs and across with no brakes when we could've stopped didn't have anyone coming. Never know when that computer might decide you don't need brakes anymore. Little later they started working and worked fine again. Was in a Tahoe years ago.

    • @OnlineAutoRepairVideos

Just because a part or system is designed to be a safety feature, does NOT make it safe. That's why they have recalls, like Takata.

Yep thanks to abs and tcs on a 2009 dodge journey I slid into a electric fence. There was about an inch of snow. I was going about 5mph down my dirt road. I've never had any problems all of my other 5 non abs vehicles. My friends 2012 jeep will actually brake mid turn which will cause the vehicle to pull. Depending on which side the brake is applied it could pull you towards the other lane or towards the white line. My journey did the same thing so probably a Chrysler thing.

I tried that and you need the proffessional equipment to do that. So I say dont buy these cheap crap. Also if you are uncertain about the result just JUMP on the pedal and no drop of fluid should come out. At the same time there is also leaking cylinders that are new and sometimes sold by cheap companies so it is just not the pipes.
