Funnily enough, for my one playthrough of FE7, Lyn got a crit on the boss after almost everyone died to that dragon. Lyn SAVED my game. Lyn best FE girl!
@@tigerwarrior1787 I had similarly amazing luck with Lyn on HHM, except most of the game. It was very odd after her being frail and not very dodgy for Lyn and Eliwood Modes that she suddenly got lck and str up the wazoo and turned into a dodgetank murderlord. I finally got to use the Katti swords, and it was an awesome feeling.
People may not like this run since it doesn't really have the traditional "Randomness" of Fire Emblem to deal with, but it's crazy to think how much planning and memorization goes into manipulating the game like this.
unlike back then, no manips isn't really possible anymore since it is now perfectly understood how the rng works, not manipulating it is in it self a manipulation.
I appreciate the comment! I think marathons are actually good showcases for these kinds of runs since you only do them once, and the general audience has not seen the full route. Personally I see it as more of a live showcase of an optimized route instead of a live run trying to deal with actual luck, but I don't see one better than the other. That being said, I completely understand some people that don't like RNG-manipulated runs, and I don't entirely blame them for that. However, there's a lot more going on than just "follow what's going on in a run and you'll have a fast time!" Aside from just the speed of executing the menus (which I actually went significantly more slowly than usual so viewers can keep up), this requires an in-depth knowledge of how the RNG works, when it's used and it isn't used. Fortunately/Unfortunately (depends on how you see this), doing a "non-manip" run of a GBA FE is fundamentally impossible. A good runner who "doesn't manipulate" will eventually start doing the same thing, and will always get the same outcome. And if you try to avoid that to NOT get that outcome, you're still actually manipulating the RNG. So it's technically impossible to completely avoid manipulation in a GBA FE. The closest one would get is to never save/reset, but if you have to restart a chapter, you'll start seeing the same outcome anyways. Also, without heavy manipulation, the GBA FEs are pretty terrible for marathon-safety (see, the AGDQ14 sacred stones run). FE runs are so dependent on level-ups, and if you get screwed on them, there is literally no backup for it. You cannot do anything with a str-screwed seth or whatever, and your marathon estimate will go to crap. The reason Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn work so well without manipulation is because they have fixed mode and the +3 stat-up BEXP system, respectively, to make level-ups consistent for marathons. That being said, manipulated runs can be punishing as well since if you make a tiny mistake (and you will, because human error), you absolutely must restart the entire chapter, and the worst spot for this would be cog of destiny where I would lose ~7-8 minutes for each mistake.
I actually don't speedrun and I have the issue come up with getting the same result in sacred stones. It was the first fire emblem I played and I got a lot of playtime with the early chapters. The exact moves I make through the end of chapter 5 are practically memorized because of how much I played it.
clearly the tactician is in kahoots with dark, eldritch entities capable of enslaving the minds of entire armies and causing them to drop their weapons to make way for Eliwood.
19:51 Florina kicks butt because she is the most overpowered Pegasus Knight in any Fire Emblem game I have played. Towards the end of the game she could fly forward, take on half the map, and fly back to rejoin everyone else. It was crazy
FE2 Catria/Est are definitely the most overpowered. Critical damage on monsters and the ability to fly when the back half of the game is death swamps and floating eyes.
God dammit this is my first Fire Emblem and she was my first to get killed early in Lyn mode. Now in Eliwood mode everyone is pretty powerful while Florina is still level 5 at Dragon's Gate. I missed the arena grind with her too because I didn't know about it and took other characters for that level instead. I pretty much resent her every time I take her because of how much she sucks...but I keep trying, hoping she'll level up enough to be a badass.

So if you play the game the exact same way every time you always get the same result. So to find the fastest route, you can just try different combinations using an emulator and save states until you get favorable results. Marcus probably developed his reputation as an experience hog because he's anti-casual. He's not as cool as the characters you want to use instead, so even if you know that you can bullrush through the entire game with him, you'd probably still just blitz through the early maps with him at best. EX: I usually use all three Lords and promote Sain in Lyn mode, so the demand for Marcus is significantly lower than in efficient play. In my first NM playthrough, he was still endgame viable due to my lack of good units at the time. IIRC, it was the Lords, Florina, and...??? Might as well lop Marcus on, lol. I think even then, I always knew how good he was, but I didn't like him enough to use him that much (or I just didn't know how the experience numbers would total for him regardless, so the claims from others of EXP being a precious commodity seemed more credible). Neither Seth nor Titania retained this sort of bias; everyone I knew used them regularly throughout the entire game. The gameplay structure is different enough in other games besides not to even beg the question, which uniquely singles out Marcus for this sort of fallacy. The way I see it, it's nbd that meme got out of hand. FE7's just one of those games in which it's easier to justify using whoever you like because the character writing is a step above the other games, and the lack of difficulty is obfuscating. Your terrible units in this game are very well written characters with some perceivable payoff, whereas in Awakening, they're just memes.
I didn't know that there is a torch glitch, or a way to continue a chapter after killing the boss :0 But I knew the mine one How can we do these ones ? Thanks, and sorry for my english
Starwars Fanboy while ltcs and speedruns share some characteristics, there are a lot of significant differences. You want to avoid training units in speedruns since it costs a lot of time whereas you can manage that in LTCs without costing turns usually.
Kirby Mastah I'm doing a ltc of sacred stones rn . Seth is getting all the boss kills . I'm not doing anything like dondon151 but I think I'm doing ok. I'm trying to get all the charters and loot as well and I'm still making decent turn counts
I'm confused. Why are so many people back there with controllers? Is it actually making the game faster having more people hold "A"? And how is he reseting and instantly picking up where he left off, instead of going back to the title screen?

Your terrible units in this game are very well written characters with some perceivable payoff, whereas in Awakening, they're just memes.
what the actual hell were Florina's growths?
I didn't know that there is a torch glitch, or a way to continue a chapter after killing the boss :0
But I knew the mine one
How can we do these ones ?
Thanks, and sorry for my english

man it tilts me to see how good growths speedrunners get compared to me
Was that KZ_Frew
A FE speed run based on time not turns . Interesting
How the heck does he know that he's going to crit?
I'm confused. Why are so many people back there with controllers? Is it actually making the game faster having more people hold "A"? And how is he reseting and instantly picking up where he left off, instead of going back to the title screen?
Hold start while pressing A+B+start+select

30:56 I really thought Oswin was going to be used a lot more considering how generous the developers were by allowing you to get him at level 10. Alas, such are the weird ways of RNG manipulated runs...
I can't believe I overlooked that. It is a *SPEED*run after all!
