They do what music is designed to do: causes listeners to feel something. Different types of music elicit different type of feelings. Every society has music of some kind.

      @maryoconnor9360 Місяць тому

Really ? Iam sorry you are feeling this way
I hope as you listen to this song you can take everything in it that is making you depressed and see if there is a flip side to it or if there is a different way to look at it ..... or if there is a way to turn it around or as I said before - to flip it to the opposite way in order to better understand WHY it is making you feel this way.
You might be able to transcend those feelings into a more positive energy.. it may seem somewhat overwhelming at first but take it slow , very slowly.... and you may surprise yourself! My best wishes to you. Depression is very devastating and definitely not many people can handle it by themselves. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
If you are truly depressed please seek out help or talk to someone close to you or even reply back to me. I would do whatever I could to help you . if your depression is interfering with your life and your relationships or even if it is just making you very sad then it is very serious . You do not have to feel this way - and no one is expected to handle this by themselves. I certainly do not mean to make light of it. I wish you the best. You are NOT alone. Remember that.

As I read the comments, I realized that thing song is universal. As all music is. The feeling it delivers is universal to how one feels at the current moment.
At one point, it was ‘depressive’
& now it’s a calm, relaxing, much needed lullaby after a long day of work.
You understand that there still is ‘hope’ & a brighter day ahead ..
what makes a great song, is that that can make you feel that way no matter what year or lifetime you’re currently at.
This song is a great representation of just that.
    - if you’ve read this far, thank you
This is my first time commenting anything this long lol
But I’m currently living & experiencing something new in my life.
So much to the point that I’m sharing this in the internet 😅
& I’ve come to this specific song,
I searched it & played it & watched it & listened to it in its entirety.
I then read the comments & now we are here, where I’m sharing my thoughts & you’re reading it.
This is why I’m thanking you,
For giving me some of your time 🙏
    Have a beautiful life 🙏
    I love you,
    You got this,
Everything will turn out just fine if you continue to put the work in 🙏

A heart that's full up like a landfill
A job that slowly kills you
    Bruises that won't heal
You look so tired and unhappy
    Bring down the government
They don't, they don't speak for us
    I'll take a quiet life
    A handshake of carbon monoxide
    No alarms and no surprises
    No alarms and no surprises
    No alarms and no surprises

The lyrics are about very sad sensitive feelings, which came from very sad sensitive events or situations that have been or could be experienced by anyone of us that are deeply and devastatingly felt and then shared with us - those of us that are not hesitant or terrified to delve deep into our hearts and souls to confront and feel this out of control whirlwind, rarely experienced, raw emotional pain. It's important that we let ourselves go and FEEL for humanity and that which is out there to hurt us.
And Thom Yorke is the very best! The best of the best!

I love this song, it feels like the perfect song to Be played at the end of a funeral, of someone who had an eventful life, after all.

Ya I suppose a lot of people say Radiohead is depressing. Those people will always be depressed. Their music makes you think about why your depressed. If ya know the reason. You can fix it. Rock on Radiohead, and your fans. Let the nay sayers run.
